Very cool....We rented a house on Orcas Island 2 summers ago and went on a private Whale watching tour and saw a ton of Orcas. The Captain said we were really lucky probably the most activity he had seen in years. Amazing sight to see in person!
David, welcome to WA! It's great to hear you bought your first boat, congrats and welcome to the club! This part of the world is by far the greatest boating you'll ever experience. If you ever want suggestions for where to go just let us know!
That's a great launching point! We really love Sucia Island which has multiple bays to choose from and fabulous hiking trails. Reid Harbor across from Roche Harbor on Stuart Island is another great bay with a dock that gets you up to great trails, fire pits for s'mores and even a light house that supposedly has an "honor system" gift shop. We've never been to that but we love anchoring there and walking boat dog up by the fire pits. Friday Harbor, too, is probably our favorite marina area in the San Juan's. Most people prefer Roche, but we really like Friday Harbor. Mike's Cafe and Wine Bar is AMAZING, you can rent fun scooters to tour the south end of the island and you can meet the famous Popeye the Seal who's been greeting boaters for years by the fish shack. Plus, you get more civilization like shopping, coffee shops, a nice grocery store and a really good ice cream place right by the ferry dock. We've been to Rosario Resort, too, but we honestly didn't care for it.
Hey... I think that we've seen all of your videos and love them. We've come up the coast from California to Washington & now have our boat in a slip close to the San Juans. We're heading to Victoria soon for a visit and really look forward to all the boating that this area offers.
Grayce Malone thanks for the nice comment, we're thrilled you enjoy our videos. You're going to absolutely LOVE the PNW and won't want to boat anywhere else in the world. The beauty and endless destinations greatly outweigh the months of rain and clouds. Enjoy Victoria, it's our favorite spot! And be sure to check out Fan Tan Alley and Il Terrazzo ristorante for some delicious eats (they're both a little easy to miss so just ask around)!
Westlake thanks for watching, we're glad you enjoyed it! We actually were en route to a quick stop off in Roche Harbor before heading to Vancouver for Canada Day! Victoria was booked up 😕 so we opted for Coal Harbor. Video coming soon! Have a great 4th as well!
Zach Jones we'll be ending our long weekend anchored out at Roche on the 4th if we can't weasel our way into the marina. If you spot the Orca stop and say hi! Maybe the camera will be rolling!
Alisha Nagel welcome to the Pacific Northwest!!! If you can you've GOT TO head to British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦 as it's the most magical place of earth 🌏
Was just up there with the family for a few days on our boat and heard about the sighting that day! We looked around for them but missed them this trip. Next time hopefully! Glad you guys got to see them!

That's awesome! I recently moved to Washington and purchased my first boat. I can't wait until I can start cruising so I can see stuff like this.

Amazing! I'm surprised you dog wasn't barking!
Mark Embry she's more of a whiner thank goodness!
They're beautiful, but they're also known as 'Killer Whales' for a reason. 'Wolves of the Sea' is another good description.
Very cool
Interesting... at 3:29 you can see a young calf with a drooping dorsal fin.
In captivity, their dorsal fins curve downward 180 degrees.
