Festae are one of my personal favourite and extremely underrated in my opinion , just look at the colours of those , absolutely stunning fish , hope all is well with JCB after his failed Houdini escapologist attempt
Great tank, love the sponge filters, I use them myself in the Amphilophus tank. I love the look of festae, I don’t need to be bitten by them. They are gorgeous enough I am keen on getting some someday.

I completely agree about the level of interaction you've stated. I've raised a female to 8" in a heavily filtered 55 gallon with a few logs and clay pots. I've always wanted to introduce a smaller male using your barrier method but I have my doubts that they could share a tank that small especially during breeding.
You can never be 100% sure what would happen. I still use a divider in this 6ft tank from time to time. It gives the female a rest from the male constantly hassling her. Good luck what ever you choose to do. Thanks for watching happy fishkeeping to you sir.

Lovely pair of red terrors. I have a breeding pair in a 120 and u r 100% right, no other fish can go in there. Just lost my female Dovii. Male got over aggressive 😩

I wouldn't say I'm very experienced with Oscars. I kept them many years ago in the late 70's when I was a boy. I was a inexperienced fish keeper back then. Looking back I don't think I gave then the care they deserved. I do have a Oscar again now. Only had it a few months, so I wouldn't say I'm expert on Oscars. Absolutely stunning fish!!! I have 5 young specimens I acquired 4 months ago or so..they are true red TERRORS and not mayans turns out🤞❤❤👀...!!! They are housed with some other species right now they are small but from what I understand later they will not make good live in mates ... any pointers my friend on how to keep these gorgeous fish..alone!! Andy, how can I tell female from male festae when they are juveniles. have a juvenile that i think is male. fins have pearling on them and heard female juveniles don't have the pearling. is this correct?
That is correct. The unpaired fins on a male has spots and pearling. The female has black in her dorsal fin. Hope that been helpful for you. Happy fishkeeping to you sir.
This is a true story. I had a Mayan Cichlid. He ended up at 16". (Biggest I think) He was a basket case but loved me. As a baby he was "given" to me by my local fish store because he was as a baby kicking the shit out of their adult tinfoil barbs after killing most of his females in transit. I think they were taking the piss. Psychopath. Gravel - NO all on the left with no decor.... But he Loved ME!!! The most responsive fish ever (and like you I have kept them all). But He was a one off. And in terms of intelligence - more than the rest. Maybe he was a one off and I think he was - but he makes the claim that they can all be clever... Just this was was a loving Hannibal Lecter: Being all serious, the strongest, nastiest and most owner responsive fish I ever kept was this urophthalmus. And I kept him alone for 11 years.

No. Ok when the fish were small. There to big now. I'd need a 8 to 10ft tank to have any chance of it working. I still divide these two in a 6ft from time to time. I understand what you mean by not liking the bars on the male looks a lot like the female or even a butterkoferi the solid green yellow metallic does look better but still very very stunning fish they almost look like they're painted or airbrushed very very beautiful what do you do with all those hundreds a fry
You can sex them at 3.5 to 4 inch. The dominant ones will colour up and start pairing off. Stressed sub dominant fish will not show true adult colouration. Thanks for watching happy fishkeeping to you sir.

How long did it take for your male to color up and grow pretty big? Because I've had mine for about 10 months probably and he still pretty small and bland color

Even from other fish you have I'm a fanatic of the more aggressive chilids I have a tank full of them and they are doing wonderful. I have dovii, black belt , vieja, red terror, red devil, blue texas, red texas, texas chilid, salvani, flowerhorn, and a few others

I've raised the fry many times before. Still got some juveniles from a previous spawning. It takes a lot of time and tank space to grow them on. Then it's hard to sell them. I've long thought about doing a "pair" up....but I'm just in love with my 150g mixed African tank.

That would be a tight squeeze. It would last a few years as there quite slow growing.

Even from other fish you have I'm a fanatic of the more aggressive chilids I have a tank full of them and they are doing wonderful. I have dovii, black belt , vieja, red terror, red devil, blue texas, red texas, texas chilid, salvani, flowerhorn, and a few others
I love the aggressive the species. Sounds like you have a good collection yourself. Your going to need some big tanks as they grow. Especially for the Dovii.

Why not raise and sell the fry?
I've raised the fry many times before. Still got some juveniles from a previous spawning. It takes a lot of time and tank space to grow them on. Then it's hard to sell them.
