Mr Woods, that dovii is awesome. The jaguar is very nice I don't think I have ever seen one that big .Good luck with all your fry thanks for posting Joe Munoz
Thank you. I've kept keyhole cichlids before. I think all American cichlids are wonderful big and small. Thanks for watching happy fishkeeping to you sir.
Hi, I LOVE American Cichlids and I love seeing your collection. aside for a couple of things, The health of your fish (I noticed some sunken bellies and fungal infections but know how difficult infections can be to handle), and the fact you don't have my personal fav (Jack Dempsey : Rocio octofasciata), I was so happy to see your collection. Many people underestimate American Cichlid because they aren't bright and colourful until they mature. But they are truly amazing and have such great personalities on them. I must admit I am jealous of your collection. And most of all that you managed to get Red Devils to live in a community. It's the only cichlid I could never get to live with any other (include the same species) fish.
+Andy Woods Your male Umbee looks to have a fungus growing on it's pectoral fin. And your male jag looks to have a sunken belly (but that could just be a camera angle issue). You mention a bit that tank mates tend to get beaten up a bit (like your male Umbee after spawning). There are 2 great products I use to use on my Cichlids both for damage and fungal infections. API Melafix and Pimafix. The Melafix is excellent for supporting fin regeneration and scale replacement. I also use to use it to add it when adding fish to a tank to help with any stress that may be caused. And Pimafix is a great all natural fungal infection treatment. Again your Cichlids are beautiful and I wasn't trying to be a prick. I just know what its like having a lot of fish and trying to keep track of everything.
My Red Devil is about 15 inches long. Lived with Angels, Discus, others fry - the whole shooting match. Never touched any of them. Had him since a baby. Of such good nature and so loving and friendly. One of those fish that is like a dog that the hardest part is keeping him entertained. Bit of an attention seeker.
1 synspilum (unknown) 2 Green Terrors ( unknown at moment, but 1 bossin the tank) 1 Texas (Female) 1 Salvini (male) 1 Jack Dempsey (male) Hi I've just subscribed to your channel love your fish and videos. I've just set myself up a tank with the fish listed above. The fish are only 3 inches long at the moment so I have them in a 4 foot tank. I will be getting a 6 foot to house them in when they start to fill out. I'm asking for some advice please on these fish I have, at the moment everyone is getting on , 1 terror thinks he's boss, a little aggression but not anything serious. Some people have said I have trouble coming, some people have said good luck pending on the fishs personalities, I'm not doing anything new as I've seen these kept together before in big tanks, any advice please from yourself or other followers please, I just want to keep big fish, happy fish, and know I'm doing it right. Thanks Russ.
Thanks for the sub. Your going to need that bigger tank sooner rather than later. The bigger the tank the more chance you have of it working out. Make sure you have a loads of hiding places. Good luck and thanks for taking the time to watch and comment Happy fishkeeping to you sir.
@@andywoodscichlids2942 thanks Andy .. yes I have lots of pots and pipes for them to go in, the Jack Dempsey is the biggest out of them all and nobody messes with him he seems to keep them all in check, the larger green terror is the only one which is showing aggression when food is offered, the Texas and the synspilum just chill out really and don't bother, the Salvini puts the dominant terror in its place so I guess there all finding there pecking order in the tank, i didn't want to add males n females of same species and thought if I buy them all small I may have a chance of keeping them together, Im not adding anything else either this will be what I keep, if it gets too much and one has to go then so be it but I was told that this mixture are hard enough to put up with each other. Thanks for your reply Andy. I take it onboard what you have said. Russ
I'm very jealous big guy. Looking to upgrade my fishroom in later 2016 if the wife allows it. Looks like I'll have to suck up to catch up to you hahaha
Andy I'm after some Umbees like that! Would you be willing to shove a load of Fry in a bag and send me some Fry to Jersey! Name your price. I know you don't sell no more but I'd love to have some progeny of Crazy Jo. I just can't get these Fry in Jersey. Ill have a massive fish room by Late October .
Nikki Webster mixing aggressive American cichlids can be very difficult. There best kept alone or in pairs. A lot depends on tank size, bigger the tank the better, and the more hiding places the better.
Beryl the male Jag is about 14 to 15 inch, his tank is a 5 ft 100 UK gallon, around 120 US gallon. As for age, he's around 8 years old. He's was named Beryl because I thought he was a girl when he was young.
how long did it take you to complete your fish room I'm about to get myself a new house in the next few months and was thinking of using the basement as a cichlid room and having a big piranha tank in my living room
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Let me ask, have you had any problems with having those coated pots in your tanks? A couple of years ago I thought about putting some in my tanks, but I felt they would leak out something into the water.
Just so you know the "American tiger fish" is Datnoid Polota. It is part of the Datnoid family. It is from Indonesia area and is not from the Americas at all. Infact the only reason it is sometimes called the American tiger fish is that of all the datnoids it is the least yellow in color and more silver. Therefore asian keepers called it the American tiger fish because only Americans would buy them lol
I'm sorry, its rare I grow on fry now days. It takes a lot of time and tank space. I used to end up with hundreds of fish no one wanted. Sometimes I sell the odd fish on aquarist classifieds. You can find my number on there. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment happy fishkeeping to you sir
They get even meaner in those small tanks. Had a psychotic Midas that I saw attack my cat while it was drinking and my dog was also terrified of it. He was more aggressive than any Dovii I have seen but I think a Dovii in a small tank could become just as mean. Not sure if it possible to get meaner.
Hi Andy, I've got a what I believe to be a male tiger mota, I've put a one minute video up of him. He's 15", I would appreciate if you could give me your opinion on what type is he? Thank you!
Andy Woods thanks pal, I know a lot of crossing goes on between the 2 in the USA but wasn't sure how common freddys were here so I'm guessing a hybrid of the 2 most likely
"It's funny we have all these fish when they're juvies, are so shy, then you look at the big ones all they want to do is kill you at the glass". Hahaha :)
Brah, that beautiful yellow female ain't fighting. She is DTF for real. Babies coming soon. As far as american chiclids go that behavior is about as hot and heavy as it comes.
used to get them oddball express, but they have stopped importing. Don't buy fish often now breed my own. But when I do Lincs fish import from USA. Can order most cichlids

The jag is 15year plus old, and the Umbees get damaged when spawning. No meds needed they heal naturally.

Andy thanks for another video. Still crazy about the community tank. Trying to convince the wife for a 200G in Our living room
keep working on her. my community tank and dovii tank are in the living room, both are 200 gallon.
Hello Mr. Woods I love the video can you please tell me what aggressive american cichlids that you mixs together
Nikki Webster mixing aggressive American cichlids can be very difficult. There best kept alone or in pairs. A lot depends on tank size, bigger the tank the better, and the more hiding places the better.
ok im getting a120 gallon what you think
Nikki Webster 120 will be ok for a group of juveniles. But once adult most aggressive american cichlids will need a 120 to them self.
Those hatiensis are something to really be proud of....wow
Andrew C thanks for the information on the tiger fish and the complement on my Haitiensis. Thanks for watching.

Thank you Serra Salmus. I've never had a problem with them pot. But I do big water changes. The fish love them.
+Andy Woods. Thanks, I may try one. . . I never do large water changes.
love your videos. where do you get your fish from is you dont mind me asking cause look for alot of the same fish you have.
Robert Taylor most of the fish come into the UK from cota or rapps.
ok thanks i will look and see what they have
hi Andy do you have any dovii fry I'm in UK and how much are they thanks
I'm thinking about getting some black nastys ...but I was wondering how many could I keep in a 150gallon tank
They don't do well with others, especially there own kind. Best kept alone.

Hi Andy, I've got a what I believe to be a male tiger mota, I've put a one minute video up of him. He's 15", I would appreciate if you could give me your opinion on what type is he? Thank you!
I've had a look at you vidio. He's sure is a big one. Can't say exactly what kind of parachromis he is. Moto or Freddy may be.
Andy Woods thanks pal, I know a lot of crossing goes on between the 2 in the USA but wasn't sure how common freddys were here so I'm guessing a hybrid of the 2 most likely
