  • Red Terror cichlid fish care is medium level fish keeping. These fish can sometimes be pretty aggressive. This is the mixed large cichlid food I was talking about. Red Terror cichlids love that variety and it gives them the best health. Here is a link:

    What is the best way to clean the like “death grossness” from a tank to put another fish in or does it really matter??? Just wondering I’m getting a new Betta from a friend this morning and wanted to know cause he will be going in the tank that my past fish were in. Thanks in advance!
    HELP!!! What do I do if my partner plonked my fish into a brand new batch of water and they’re dying?!?! I don’t have the old water and really don’t want them to die.... some of them are already popping off. can you get to a lfs and buy some seachem prime, they do a very small bottle... add a little to the litreage and aerate the water hard and you may keep some. its tap water i presume. for future the best trick is to prepare your water at least 24hours before add 'Prime" and aerate it until you are ready to use it.
    Sounds like you need a new partner lmao! If he literally just removed from one tank and dropped them into another with no acclimation period, the temp and water parameters could have been different and he just shocked the crap out of your fish... add some stress coat and keep the tank dark, like blacked out dark for a day and leave the lights off but unwrap the tank for another day and they should get over the stress of the move, unfortunately the damage has already been done and you're on a recovery mission now! I wish you the best of luck!
    It has nothing to do with the water unless it has chlorine and hasn’t been dechlorinated. Once that’s done it’s the filter that needs to be up to speed producing bacteria. Water from an LFS won’t help anymore than some dechlorinator.
    Hope this video helps some of you. So like many of you I do my water changes on Sunday and it can be a pain in the butt I have tried many different way's of doing it with the worst being carrying heavy buckets I have tried using a Python but my sink fitting didn't work so I came up with this now I know many people do it this way but I haven't seen any videos so I thought I would make one to share so I hope this helps

    Red terror cichlid Care. Needing some serious help, left foot vacation and came back to a dead guppy and a filthy tank with the internal filter completely submerged that my housesitter apparently didn't take care of. I have no idea hope long the guppy was dead, this reading is AFTER I changed the water 50% last night :( I'll be starting another water change immediately but what does this reading mean?
    For a little background I posted a while back about how my tank was new, had started with safe start and I had an ammonia problem contributed to overfeeding. Everyone was super helpful and in light of this problem I left clear instructions for my housesitter on doing small water changes until I got home. I came back, saw the dead fish, panicked and did a 50% water change and added a capful of stability without checking parameters. Currently the tank is a slightly overstocked 10g (followed bad advice and am rehoming some tomorrow) but I'm working on getting my 20g ready for water.
    I know it was just a guppy but coming home to a dead fish was heartbreaking. Please, other than an immediate water change how can I help my fish?? Vacuum everything off of the bottom any food residue left behind from your house sitter will contribute to your readings. Add carbon to your filter if it doesnt have any and put some pothos ivy into the tank.
    If the tank is new (3-6 weeks old) the dead fish may have crashed your cycle. I would recommend a deep thorough clean of the filter and all, then get some starter bacteria and start over. Might be a little stressful on your fish but not as stressful as those nitrite and nitrate levels. Adding bacterial starter is a good idea if there was a problem with your filter. I’m not sure I understand what you mean by it was submerged? If you add chemicals to neutralize ammonia and nitrates realize that the tank will continue to read as if ammonia or nitrate are present until the material breaks down or is removed by water changes.
    Damn it... I'll do what I have to for my fish but man it sucks. I did use safe start the first time. At this point I'm going to look into just buying an already cycled sponge filter off of someone local and trying that.

    After 5 minutes he finally gets focused on the fish. Until then it’s the usual stuff like using oak wood and him selling wood. Repeating his fish food supplier etc. Recommending a SIX foot long tank for these 7” fish. He usually has 1 good point to make for every 8 minutes of video. In this case it is that females keep their colors and males lose them. Done

    Festae are south american fish.
    Red Terrors are dominant but not aggressive
    I keep Red terrors together with Trimaculatus and some switching side stock in 240 G since around 4 years with no Problem at all. They even breed and guard fry regulary.
    90G is way to small for an male red terror. They grow to 40+ cm

    • @clclay32
      @clclay32 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not only dominant but yes also aggressive. Each individual variety of different species of fish doesn't matter the species but any fish for that matter in general has its own aggression level towards others or within the same species. Some are docile, others semi-aggressive to aggressive and dominant. Each individual depending on their gender \ environment \ mating \ territory \ their nature\ food\ community \ health and even water chemistry ect.. can have an effect so it can go either way. I've housed and bred all sorts of fish including multiple individuals and mated pairs of festae, Northern, Central, South A. and other tropical fish.. just about every species you can think of sold in the u.s. today for the past decade and regardless.. a fish is unpredictable at any rate depending on that particular individual fishes aggression level. Like most any living thing on this planet, you're always going to have the good, the confused and the bad! 😂

    • @Zozo806
      @Zozo806 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clclay32 Not really, you have of course a typical agrresion Level that you can predict. For example Mesoheros with Amphilophus, yes most likley the bigger and more aggressive ones work. Chanco yes, Hoga yes, Citrunellum Not always, Teimac its a gamble. Parachromis is also possible but than the more mellow ones like Jags or feddys.
      The same goes for any species, the indivual difference is a point but if you work not always on bare tank minimum recommendations and have a clue in structuring tanks you can avoid alot of trouble.
      Of course if you buy an adult pair of Festae and put them in your 150G Oscar tank the Astronotus gets murdered and like in my case growing Trimacs and Festae out together with an good steuctured tank just works fine. The same goes for my other tanks with Stalsberi and Ruboocellatus, Chanco and fenestra with salvini. The only ones i World never consider to put in a community are my pair of 17" Aurimanticulata.

    • @clclay32
      @clclay32 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zozo806 unless you're Dionne Warwick I doubt you're able to predict a fish's aggression level LOL.. like I said you have the good and you have the bad, really depends on the individual fish. Kind of like females you think everything's all good when you go to sleep but when you wake up all Hell Breaks Loose..LOL J\k but on a serious note it really is unpredictable you never know what's going to happen all you can do is hope for the best! I could show you some of my videos of about 15 tanks from 40 gallons up to 240 gallons with a variety of mixed species and depending on everything that I mentioned above depends on how it goes regardless if you raise them together or not once they get to a certain size if they're not compatible or for some other reasons going on in the tank there will be serious aggression going on!

      @@clclay32 well im doing this hobby since more than 25 years starting at 7 or 8, i have six 220G and 2 600G tanks and i keep and breed Festae for maybe 10 years. I started with F0 ones and still have the Female. I paired her up with an F1 and i rehomed that pair 3 times and i stocked them with several different.
      Like said its about structuring and tank size and that you know what can be together. There are sone big no no's i would never do and some i would consider risky but not impossible. I have even a good friend with 3 600 G tanks that keeps Festae with Vieja, Amphilophus and Dovii and that since more than a decade.
      I don't consider me on his Level but i know what i do and what i do is just two things, providing enough space and good structured tanks. The rest is piece of cake. Of course you have some times inaceptable aggressive solo exemplars that can't be introduced but i can count this case on one Hand. But i also don't beleave in forced pairings. I always try to let them bound at free will from a group of youngsters.

    • @clclay32
      @clclay32 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zozo806 Same here.. and the truth of the matter is at the end of the day.. we both know what's up not that it can't be done for a period of time but in the long run keeping fish to maturity if not at a young age in most cases they become not only dominant but also aggressive. Which any fish can be at any given point in time if they choose to be.... as in Period. I can't begin to tell you how many times over the years I have purchased fish and returned them to find a more suitable candidate for my community for them only to get along for a couple of years but eventually it never last, constantly having to separate\ divide or deal with the consequences. lol I love the arrogance side when it comes to dealing with people in this Hobby.. (I can do this, I've done that) what fish Enthusiast hasn't..it's simply fish.. "Like The Facts of Life" You take the good you take the bad and whatever happens That's The Facts of Life, . LOL on another serious note some people just get too involved with the simple things in life especially things such as fish which you really have no control over! As a matter of fact I believe fish have more control over us than we do them.. just needy all the time! LOL they make us go out of our way to find the best foods because they're so picky, compatible tank mates, appropriate tank size to accommodate their needs... I mean the list keeps going and going and going.. it's a never-ending battle and probably one of the most expensive Hobbies I've ever gotten into.. in the beginning I thought it was supposed to be relaxing and peaceful but unfortunately given we have a few of those days and the rest of the week is pure and utter hell dealing with tank maintenance basically all of their needs to keep them happy and healthy! I'm selling all of my tanks and buying a a blow up doll since I'm the one getting f*****@ the end of the day! LOL

    Wrong video but built the tank around the glass.. the glass is the most important and costly part.. you’re learning this now as you started building the tank first then trying to glass it.. also the thinkess of the plywood isn’t important.. it’s how many layers.. 7 or 9 ply 1/2” is way way stronger then 5 ply 3/4” stuctual beams are nothing more then lots of 1/8” thick pieces of veneer glued together.. the key to layers is they glue each lay by opposing grain direction. So the more layers the better. Thickness is not important it’s usually dictated by the number of layers except when talking about 3-5ply which are standard low grade versions.
