Retsuko’s rage rises another octave when she finds herself moonlighting with an underground idol group to pay off her debts
It's interesting how Retsuko's mother was right about the whole Shirota situation - she warned Retsuko she can't treat men like sushi on a conveyor belt when Retsuko nitpicked reasons not to see him again because she was scared of commitment, but then when she was feeling lonely she asked about him again and her mother told her he'd already moved on to another girl. It's like Retsuko doesn't think of her love interests as being people with differing goals and opinions to hers until it's too late, she just wants a boyfriend to fill a void in her life.
Wow, that’s true! I believe somewhere in the show she said she thinks Haida only likes her for being a nice girl and doesn’t really see her, but that was exactly what she does. Funny how we criticize others for something we do ourselves.
More like she was pushed to love him. It’s not treating ppl like sushi to get to know them more.
So question: How exactly do you get out of that mentality?
@@BeauSciSelfcare, therapy, and accepting yourself and your life. If you don’t feel happy in the life you have look at what makes you unhappy and change it. For example Retsuko doesn’t like her job, has had multiple opportunities to leave for better things but hasn’t, if she would find a job she genuinely likes she would probably feel like there’s less of a void.

Resasuke : The airhead boyfriend
Mr. Shirota : The one that got away
Tadano : The ideal boyfriend but doesn't have the same goals as you.

I'd disagree with that. Retsuko also wanted kids, so its not like nothing would change unless he just wasn't there for his kids at all. Something that likely would happen anyway given his job.
Also, marriage binds you to another person, including all your assets. It makes sense Tadano wouldn't want to marry anyone. All that aside, why should he have to compromise? Retsuko made the choice to end the relationship because no marriage and no kids was too much for her. Tadano made the same choice. He wasn't willing to budge on what he wanted his life to be, theres nothing wrong with that.
They were the made for each other but different goals which also happens in real life and its a valid and fair point for a break up. No one should change their living for a specific perspective of life that doesnt match with you.
@@canoistercat Same could be said for Retsuko. It's very one-sided and selfish of people to say HE should have changed his principles for her when she could also do it. Asking him to change his beliefs for her is childish of people to just arbitrarily demand. If somebody doesn't believe in the legal/moral obligations of marriage why should they change that? Once again, SHE could also have said, "not sure but maybe I'll change my mind". People love to dog on a man for sticking to his beliefs but defend a woman for hers.
It's ironic that Retsuko probably would've been at her happiest had she went with her mom's idea
in the end we dont know that, she only knew the guy from one meeting
the thesis of the show is that you'll find little things to be annoyed about no matter what path you choose in life. Shirota was a wealthy suitor who would have allowed Retsuko to quit and be a housewife, and that would come with its own minor annoyances that make her not want to get out of bed in the morning. She probably would have been happy with her arranged marriage (americans dont really understand that matchmaking its not marital slavery, literally just a form of dating that is upfront about marriage as an end goal) just like she's more or less content with her current path in life. The point of the character is that you have a right to complain about shit thats not fair, but also have to go back to work in the morning anyway.

I feel bad for Resasuke and Retsuko because the only reason they didn’t work out was because of him taking his friend’s advice too much. They were getting along fine before he began acting all “manly” and ignoring her.
I don't think his friend necessarily told him to act "manly". I think Resasuke was very much acting like himself on his dates. The problem was that he was so zoned out and too much of a space cadet to realise when Retsuko was hurting. He offered no opinions when she asked him what he thought. His whole personality was just exaggeratedly blank and apathetic. If anything his friend helped him out, because he gave him the push he needed to 1) even realise Retsuko was interested in him and 2) told him to ask her out.

I think it's not his friend's advice but more on Resasuke himself. The dude was just too zoned out to notice anything. Hell, even when Retsuko screamed at him in death metal he didn't even notice.

I think Resasuke is more of an asexual/aromantic (or maybe a little austistic) so he's not seeking for any partner but just went on date because of societal or peer pressure

I am still hoping we get to see more of Resasuke and Manumaru at some point. I loved their bro cat and clueless boy dynamic and we haven't seen them since the cameo in the christmas special. Though Tadano also has a special place in my heart.

The fact that out of all these guys she was only ever able to truly be herself and speak her mind when she was with Haida. It was nice to see them all side by side and realise that. Plus Haida tops all of them because he both literally/figuratively saved her life! (but ngl tadano was pretty cute close 2nd if it wasn't for his whole no commitment to marriage and communism thingy he had going on)

Not wanting marriage isn't a commitment issue, some people just actually don't think marriage should be a way to represent your love for one another. Plus, why spend money on something like that when things like breaking up or things just not working out. I can think of plenty examples of people not getting married but still being happy for years to come.
Also I agree with him on a few things, in Japan, over working is a huge issue, so what he's talking about is kind of alot more reasonable.

It was probably an oversimplification on my part to call it a commitment issue. When in reality, Retsuko and Tadano just wanted different things and weren't on the same page. Also I agree capitalism/work culture sucks and Tadano's ideas are part of what makes him so cool

I hate how the series keeps pushing Haida. The dynamic between him and Retsuko isn't good. He's an enjoyable character on his own right but his arc would be way better if he moved on and had to deal with his actions.
Resasuke was a good guy, he was just obviously neurodivergent and bad at picking up on Retsuko's nonverbal cues. I'm so sad that most of the fandom has either completely forgotten about him, or in the case of figureheads like Mother's Basement, recklessly accuse him of being an asshole. When Retsuko was more obviously in need at the party, he went out of his way to clean her up and make sure she got home safe! He definitely cared about her, just not in the VERY specific way that Retsuko was hoping for. I hope that as Retsuko matures as a person, she can reconnect with Resasuke bc I think they would be very good friends!

I'm currently getting treated for ADHD, but I spent much of my life thinking I was neurotypical, and I was lucky to have autistic siblings and other family at different points of the spectrum that I regularly interacted with that normalized autism for me. So I always fight back when neurotypical people online wanna make """jokes""" that conflate autism with stupidity, cringe, or toxic behavior. It baffles me that those "jokes" are so common and it wasn't just a bad dumb middle school phase. This is just a small (but still critical) part of why representation in media matters and its so important that we normalize minorities and intersectionality

I don't care if everybody prefer Haida, for me the best ship was Retsuko x Tadano 💕. Yes, I konw they don't share the same dreams, but i'm still blsming the script. In my opinion they were perfect together.

SAME LIKE TADANO IS MY DREAM GUY AND IN SEASON 4 HE MADE ME FALL IN LOVE AGAIN, i see him as the best partner for Retsuko even if they broke up in season 2 for having different dreams but even tho i also see that the script was to blame since even after breaking up we could still see their good relationship even after, if they still stayed as friends after the breakup for awhile i think Tadano and Retsuko would had got back together after discussing a bit more SINCE THOSE TWO ARE A PERFECT MATCH AHHH, i will pray every day for those two and will pray for god to send me such a dude to marry 👌🏻

It is that unfortunately the writers want to force the Haida x Retsuko couple, it is the couple that they want to sell us. But I don't want to buy them, I prefer Tadano x Retsuko a thousand times, they were a good couple.

I love Tadano and thought they were a good match, however I will not ignore that dude lived in a limo... we've never even seen it hinted at that dude has house. I'd think it would be a funny plot twist if the hot unicorn guy actually became real and she wound up with him. Not like some sci fi thing of coming to life out the game but she literally meets him while either at karaoke or as a new employee at the office.
My opinion is that the best option for Retsuko is Tadano and then Shirota. Like others think, they should show how Haida can overcome Retsuko and find someone else (maybe Fenneko, I suspect she has feelings for him)

I really hope she doesn’t get with Haida. Haida deserves someone who actually wants to be with somebody for the right reasons and isn’t so manipulative and exploitative. Retsuko is not exactly cruel, but she has strong disregard for the feelings and wellbeing of her partners.
Retsuko is an enneatype 9, so she does not really contact others, and mostly with herself, it is the reason why she does not know what she wants in her life. Of course I'm talking about an insane type 9, because healthy is something else.

I can't help but laugh a little at Retusko's silent horror around Tadano.
I love Haida and I hope he and Retsuko get together, but honestly he did come off as a selfish guy in the later seasons. But to be fair Retsuko's other boyfriends came off as very single-toned, so maybe they're setting us up to view Haida as a more "real" and flawed boyfriend? Idk.

Shirota: I like his “boy next door” charms, despite his tacky tastes, he’s genuine and kind.
Todano: Interesting and brilliant guy, albeit a little “flighty” (no pun intended). Good lay, but not a “long term” relationship sort of guy.
Haida: Passionate, driven, skilled, but also weak in principle. Also a bit wet behind the ears.
Seiya: He’s not real. Also a major money suck (by design), as he was meant to get ladies moist so that they send money to the puppet master company that created him.
Best guy for Retsko: She needs to be comfortable in her own company, rather than trying to find a mate to complete her.

It's pretty obvious writers meant her to be with Haida at this point. For now, at least. And the way how problematic both of them are is a plot device designed to generate an infinite number of relationship problems they'll need to overcome. Ironically, they also suit each other the most I think. Retsuko is actually quite energetic and assertive, takes an active role in everything she does even though reluctantly at first. And Haida likes her for that, doesn't need her to fit into a certain mold to be with him, and he has pretty much the same energy (punk rock answer to her death metal), his insecurities are things that are holding him back. It is uncertain if she likes him back the same way he likes her, but she surely cares about him greatly, being the one to call him out on his bullshit.
