The biggest difference for me was in short 25, where no one takes any of Retsuko's cookies that she brought in--NOT EVEN HAIDA!!! We all know this Haida would have taken at least one cookie if it would make Retsuko happy!

I don't think Retsuko actually fell in love with someone else.....she still doesn't seem to grasp the concept of love and really only searched for someone to whisk her away from her financial problems. I'm sure she'll come to realize that loving someone is much, much deeper and will see that Haida was the perfect guy all along
all of his appearances in 10 episodes don't even add up to 20 minutes, and he isn't even interacting with Retsuko all that much. Most of Retsuko's character interaction is with Washimi and Gori. And yet Haida is so popular. How do they make a character SO DAMN CUTE, while using him so little?!
i honestly think this show is a lot better suited in japanese with subs. it made the important intimate moments stick out even more compared to how they did with english dubs because of the subtlety and the more socially reserved culture they have over there which changed the choice of words a lot.

Spoilers for season 2 btw. ____________________________________ Can we appreciate the difference in reaction to when he finds out that Retsuko is dating someone? When she starts dating Resasuke Haida is still sad, yeah, but he never actually tries to interfere with the relationship. Retsuko is happy and Resasuke treats her well. When Haida says "I want to punch him" we know he doesn't actually mean it and it's more so a joke to make himself feel better. He's supportive of her and respects her feelings without any ulterior motives. With Tadano, on the other hand, it becomes clear at the end that he's been manipulating Retsuko. The relationship is toxic and abusive in how he controls her actions and sweeps her from place to place with out really consulting in her feelings. For christ's sake the guy tries to get her to quit her job, making her completely financially dependent of him and unable to leave him. When Haida finally runs into the guy he actually almost punches him because he knows he's hurting Retsuko. That's not jealousy y'all, that's genuine care. He chickens out (which was the right choice btw) but still, he makes up for it later by taking direct action with Gori and Washimi. Long story short, Haida only tries to interfere in Retsuko's relationships when he can tell the person she's with is hurting/abusing her. While in the beginning he was definitely a Nice Guy who fixed her computer and did stuff to try and make her like him, he's grown into someone who actively looks out for her. This is why so many people love him and root for him. So, yeah, Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. I love anime.
You have good points but Tadano wasn't toxic for her. Sure he's a drifter, a dreamer, and a bit narrow minded, but all of his actions paid off in them having a good time together, not to mention having Retsuko quit her job was on her list of things she wanted to do. She wanted to be a stay at home wife and marry a man with a good salary. Tadano just so happened to be a rich guy who had a mutual interest in her. In that regard, Tadano was Retsuko's ideal man. The only real deal breaker was that Tadano didn't want to marry or have kids, things that Retsuko wanted most. In my opinion, Haida probably knew that, and that's why he was so protective over Retsuko. The other guy was a fling, but Tadano was a man with the greatest chance of succeeding in wooing Retsuko.
Tadano was toxic for Retsuko but he didn't mean it. He wasn't hurting her on purpose I loved that either Tadano or Retsuko are bad people, they just weren't fit for each other

Not sure what Fenneko's deal is with Haida but she seems to be always there for him, particularly in protecting his feelings from getting hurt. This show is amazing, but I can't watch it. Somehow, a show about cartoon anthropomorphic animals is too real for me, with its tales of soul-crushing jobs and unrequited love.
Koopalings4life It’s the story of a anthropomorphic horseman named Bojack, he used to have a show back in the day that made him famous but nowadays he’s a drunken mess of a person who is destroying everything good in his life. Season 1 starts off a little shaky being like a typical shock adult cartoon, but later on it gets harsh, really harsh, showing the issues of drugs, alcohol, child stars, relationship issues, identity crisis, sexuality, and so much more. Bojack Horseman is a very hard hitting show that takes such simple concepts of making animals human like and throws in such real human problems that it gets to the point you even forget the show is about a talking horse. It’s hard to stomach if you’re not used to such dark themes in an extreme manner, but if you can handle that, you’ll find a very deep interesting and still funny show. It may be a lot to take in, but I’m sure you’ll find something to love about the show.
Haida is undoubtedly one of my most favourite and most relatable characters of all time. I enjoy watching him so much since I see myself a lot in him,specifically the flaws... But yea,it's just fun to see this guy trying to play it cool even though he's secretly a very shy,awkward and timid guy.His dynamic with Fenneko is also just as fun(if not better,haha). While he did go through a bit of a "downfall" on the later seasons,I think it's part of the charm. I appreciate how he isn't the "perfect" man and instead,is THE IMPERFECT man as he constantly fumbles and makes a lot of mistakes. It's frustrating for sure but it's...realistic,and I like that
The dubbed Haida is unfortunate because the English actor has a better voice, but the Japanese actor has better dialogue to work with. The puddle scene made me cry. The English version's dialogue holds it back.
Honestly, assuming the subtitles are accurate, I prefer the dialogue in this show from the subs compared to the dubs. The lines that were changed most noticeably in the dub take out some of the subtlety, like they want the story to go in one direction.
Tim Stoddard I thought the subs were too light sometimes and needed a little push with a more direct and harsher language adaptation to justify some of the reactions... But hey, that's just me, some people prefer the subs, and I don't think they're bad. Some things do make better sense in the sub... Now... I have yet to see whether or not there's any important difference between the subs and what the original Japanese dialogue actually says.
One area where the dub is really good is the cast. The characters better reflect their characters and show a better range than the sub, it just would have been nice if the dialogue didn't change so much.
The only thing that I really like out of the dub compared to the Japanese audio is the screamo moments. It feels more powerful than the Japanese version.
I hope what happens is that he ends up with someone else in season 3 Then retsuko realizes she likes him only for it to be too late and she doesnt want to intrude on the relationship becaus she becomes friends with his gf despite wanting to hate her but later haida is like damn i rebounded off the last girl and they break up and the girl ends up sorta hating retsuko In season 4 they are both mutually crushing on each other and by the middle of the sean they finally date but must keep it a secret cuz that other girl who is friends with retsuko will be sad then they get Fennoko a love story arc with that gazelle from the christmas party So um...yeh

Can we appreciate the difference in reaction to when he finds out that Retsuko is dating someone?
When she starts dating Resasuke Haida is still sad, yeah, but he never actually tries to interfere with the relationship. Retsuko is happy and Resasuke treats her well. When Haida says "I want to punch him" we know he doesn't actually mean it and it's more so a joke to make himself feel better. He's supportive of her and respects her feelings without any ulterior motives.
With Tadano, on the other hand, it becomes clear at the end that he's been manipulating Retsuko. The relationship is toxic and abusive in how he controls her actions and sweeps her from place to place with out really consulting in her feelings. For christ's sake the guy tries to get her to quit her job, making her completely financially dependent of him and unable to leave him. When Haida finally runs into the guy he actually almost punches him because he knows he's hurting Retsuko. That's not jealousy y'all, that's genuine care. He chickens out (which was the right choice btw) but still, he makes up for it later by taking direct action with Gori and Washimi.
Long story short, Haida only tries to interfere in Retsuko's relationships when he can tell the person she's with is hurting/abusing her. While in the beginning he was definitely a Nice Guy who fixed her computer and did stuff to try and make her like him, he's grown into someone who actively looks out for her. This is why so many people love him and root for him. So, yeah,

You have good points but Tadano wasn't toxic for her. Sure he's a drifter, a dreamer, and a bit narrow minded, but all of his actions paid off in them having a good time together, not to mention having Retsuko quit her job was on her list of things she wanted to do. She wanted to be a stay at home wife and marry a man with a good salary. Tadano just so happened to be a rich guy who had a mutual interest in her.
In that regard, Tadano was Retsuko's ideal man.
The only real deal breaker was that Tadano didn't want to marry or have kids, things that Retsuko wanted most.
In my opinion, Haida probably knew that, and that's why he was so protective over Retsuko. The other guy was a fling, but Tadano was a man with the greatest chance of succeeding in wooing Retsuko.

Tadano was toxic for Retsuko but he didn't mean it. He wasn't hurting her on purpose I loved that either Tadano or Retsuko are bad people, they just weren't fit for each other

The Japanese "R" can sound like an "L" sometimes. The language technically doesn't have an L at all, and is one of the few that doesn't include it.
I was just gonna say the same thing. Japanese and Korean don't have a consonant sound for R or L. They have one sound that sort of falls between the two. Linguists officially call it the "dental/alveolar flap" and use the symbol " ɾ " to denote it.
Actually Korean does have a separate R and L but it's still common to mix them up when speaking English.

Not sure what Fenneko's deal is with Haida but she seems to be always there for him, particularly in protecting his feelings from getting hurt. She even went with him to some punk rock bar for Christmas even though she hated it and it was a last minute thing. It also seems like they knew each other since college.

Koopalings4life It’s the story of a anthropomorphic horseman named Bojack, he used to have a show back in the day that made him famous but nowadays he’s a drunken mess of a person who is destroying everything good in his life. Season 1 starts off a little shaky being like a typical shock adult cartoon, but later on it gets harsh, really harsh, showing the issues of drugs, alcohol, child stars, relationship issues, identity crisis, sexuality, and so much more. Bojack Horseman is a very hard hitting show that takes such simple concepts of making animals human like and throws in such real human problems that it gets to the point you even forget the show is about a talking horse. It’s hard to stomach if you’re not used to such dark themes in an extreme manner, but if you can handle that, you’ll find a very deep interesting and still funny show. It may be a lot to take in, but I’m sure you’ll find something to love about the show.

Haida is undoubtedly one of my most favourite and most relatable characters of all time.
I enjoy watching him so much since I see myself a lot in him,specifically the flaws...
But yea,it's just fun to see this guy trying to play it cool even though he's secretly a very shy,awkward and timid guy.His dynamic with Fenneko is also just as fun(if not better,haha).
While he did go through a bit of a "downfall" on the later seasons,I think it's part of the charm.
I appreciate how he isn't the "perfect" man and instead,is THE IMPERFECT man as he constantly fumbles and makes a lot of mistakes.
It's frustrating for sure but it's...realistic,and I like that

Honestly, assuming the subtitles are accurate, I prefer the dialogue in this show from the subs compared to the dubs. The lines that were changed most noticeably in the dub take out some of the subtlety, like they want the story to go in one direction.
Tim Stoddard I thought the subs were too light sometimes and needed a little push with a more direct and harsher language adaptation to justify some of the reactions... But hey, that's just me, some people prefer the subs, and I don't think they're bad. Some things do make better sense in the sub...
Now... I have yet to see whether or not there's any important difference between the subs and what the original Japanese dialogue actually says.
One area where the dub is really good is the cast. The characters better reflect their characters and show a better range than the sub, it just would have been nice if the dialogue didn't change so much.

In season 4 they are both mutually crushing on each other and by the middle of the sean they finally date but must keep it a secret cuz that other girl who is friends with retsuko will be sad then they get Fennoko a love story arc with that gazelle from the christmas party
