Thailand has made remarkable progress in infrastructure development. The country now boasts an extensive network of modern facilities, including advanced public transportation systems like the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway in Bangkok, as well as ongoing projects for high-speed rail networks that aim to connect major cities. In healthcare, Thailand is known for its high-quality medical services and is a popular destination for medical tourism. The country has also made significant strides in technology and innovation, with several Thai companies and institutions gaining global recognition. These advancements reflect Thailand's dynamic growth and development, far surpassing the image of a 'third world' country.
Thailand economy is stagnant!! Growing by 1,5percent only last year!! Averaging of 2percent growth!! World bank study says Vietnam and Phil will overtake thailand by 2030
Thai people can't speak English, they have an alphabet that is so hard to learn, good luck with that.Philippines is by far the best, the same climate, people speaks at least basic English, all documents are written in English and the people are friendly and hospitable.
Don't even think about the Philippines. Scammers, thieves, and various other criminals are the order of the day. There are showcases on Manila streets displaying photos of wanted criminals. Never, ever leave your drink even for a minute...you'll wake up next morning in your room with all your cash gone, and can't even remember how you even got back. Many expats have left because of the crime situation. Thailand is a good place to be. The prices are reasonable, the culture is wonderful and the country is fairly safe. Be careful when you go to Pattaya or Phuket....The scammers there are everywhere. Vietnam has everything for an Expat, except a retirement or long term visa, so you'll be doing visa runs every 3 month. The people are super friendly. The country is safe, and medical care is reasonable. It's also the least expensive of the three countries. Here is my advise to Expats, no matter where you end up, stay AWAY from mass tourism, adjust to the country's culture. YOU are a guest in the country, so don't wave your home country's flag in front of the locals. Just fit in. The rewards coming back to you will amaze you! Cheers from 20 wonderful years in.......Vietnam!
The massive game changer to expenses is the newly enforced Thailand incoming remittance tax. If you stay in Thailand more than 6 months in total in a calendar year you become a tax resident. It makes Thailand much less affordable compared to other countries. Depending on your Dual Taxation Agreement with your country and the source of your funds remitted, will determine if you are taxed and how much you are taxed. For example, my Australian private pension is untaxed in Australia. So, Thailand can therefore tax all my pension money coming into the kingdom. I am looking at 20% tax on my spending money. It also means expenses in accountant fees in both countries, tax advisor fees, document certification fees to prove remittance sources and other costs. Extra stress. And no advantage for the expat (no benefits as atax resident in Thailand). Whereas Philippines won't tax you on incoming funds. Neither will Vietnam, but Vietnam has no retirement visa - but there are some visa options. Thailand is no longer affordable for many expats. It's the deal breaker for many with this sudden change.

I was looking at the Visa process for Vietnam for Americanns. Do you need USD to pay on arrival? I'm living in the Philippines not so easy to get the USD so what is the workaround for that problem? To be honest Philippines for me is the best for foreign expats because Philippines has numerous beautiful modern cities (BGC , Makati City, Mandaluyong City, Quezon City, Pasig City, etc)..has incredible mountains ( Mt Mayon, Banaue Rice Terraces etc..) has spectacular ocean ( Tubattaha reef) dozens of amazing beaches (Boracay, El Nido, Amanpulo, Coron etc .) has many many beautiful BIG Malls which some are included in World's Biggest Malls ( Mall of Asia, SM North Edsa, Megamall etc..) and most of all has Wonder of Nature which are not man - made that you can cherish for a life time( MT.Mayon, Chocolate Hills and Subterranean River) what more can you ask for???! Philippines has it all!!!

Philippines is the Best for foreign Expats, because Philippines has major tourist attractions (natural beauty & wonder of nature) which are not man made, such as 1.) MT.Mayon - The most perfect conical shaped volcano in the world, 2.) Subterranean river - The longest underground navigational river in the world and included in New7Wonder of Nature, 3.) Chocolate Hills - that even international geo-scientists are hardly believed how those beautiful little mountains are formed..that's the advantage of the Philippines in South East Asian countries her natural beauty & wonders that you can cherish for a life time..are Thailand or Vietnam has wonder of nature which are not man made???! Lol..as usual you're a Filipino/Pinoy that's why, the advantage of Thailand and Vietnam over the Philippines it's because of its different culture that's why they're more popular, remember this, not all tourists and travelers will care and are interested for the wonder of nature when they travel anywhere...Lol...
