Coming into my third week of travel in Vietnam, the air quality is pretty bad in Danang. Just yesterday was worse than Deli! Never reached levels this high even in Bangkok. Looking forward to checking out the Philippine's next. So far Thailand has my heart.

Really? But now Thailand has DTV program for long stay and Vietnam offers ALMOST EVERY COUNTRY can obtain a $60 visa to stay 3 MONTHS & can have MULTIPLE ENTRY, so you can enter 3-4x and each time stay up to 3 months=12 month easy, anybody at any age can do, based on my reading/R&D. But Philippines speaks English so u don't have to relearn the language but u can use Google translate in other 2 countries AS LONG AS ITS PEOPLE ARE KIND AND WILLING TO HELP U unlike the misandry system in the US - the girls are UNFRIENDLY AND RACISTS OR ATTACK/SUE man easily and entitled always believe "this is my White country and USA is #1 always, cannot allow China surpass the US", entitled, arrogant, and silly/dumb/impotent are the main reasons why a great empire goes down in history: look at Roman Empire, the ancient Ching Dynasty of China, and now the declining US!

rent and food is less in Thailand. Philippines is way more expensive than Thailand, been going for 22 years, Vietnam is less expensive for sure, but infrastructure and tourism is better in Thailand by far, the food is terrible/unhealthy in The Philippines, Thailand wins in all areas in my opinion, if budget is #1 then Vietnam is where you want to go (but you get what you pay for), we prefer to visit Vietnam only, living in Thailand is a way better quality of life if you can afford it. We spend $2500 USD in Thailand, including travelling around SE Asia from time to time, very good quality of life

Hahaha, in Phillippines infrastructure is good and going better and better because there have a lots of ongoing constructions of BIG Infra projects all over Metro Manila including the Multi Billion USDollar Hi- Speed Subway Train.

I've done 20 trips to Vietnam in the past 10 years. Hanoi and Saigon are just too hectic if you're a person who likes more of an outdoor lifestyle. Da Nang is probably the best option in Vietnam. People often talk about how great Vietnam food is, but the reality is that Vietnam food lacks good quality protein. It's predominantly noodles and vegetables that resemble weeds. If you want to lose weight, spend a few months in Vietnam. All things considered, I've found the best place in South-east Asis to live is Phuket. International airport, good infrastructure, great beaches, plenty of green areas, excellent shopping malls, and, most importantly, the best food options. Aside from excellent Thai and seafood, you can buy inexpensive good quality chicken, pork, and eggs at the Makro bulk food supermarket. This type of shopping just isnt available in Vietnam or the Phillipines. Safe travels, Mega.

Thailand is not the place to retire anymore. Great to visit or live and work there, but not for retirees. Starting 1 Jan 2024 Thailand now taxes the income of retired Expats (including Pensions), if you live in Thailand 180 days or more in a year, while all the other countries in SEAsia do not. Hopefully Thailand will change their mind, but as it is now, starting on Jan 2025 Expats have been told to pay income taxes on the money they brought to Thailand from 1 Jan 2024 onwards. Thailand also wants to implement worldwide taxation, so even if you dont remit the money to Thailand they want to tax it . No matter how good their Visas are or the country is - for retired Expats Thailand is not the best option (we are leaving).

Thailand and Philippines are better. Vietnam is NOT a good value for Western retirees unless one has a certain connection to the country. But neither does Vietnam want foreigner immigrants, because it is strained to the max with its own socio-economic challenges. I participated in an economics workshop last year in Vietnam. The government placed top priority on attracting and managing FDI, and it was more concerned with accommodating foreign workers coming to Vietnam (from Korea, US, Japan, EU,...) than general immigrants, since it is important to keep these expat workers happy to live and work, be productive and help Vietnam economy.
