lol “just glue them to the wall” would’ve sufficed. I imagine my 100 year old plaster walls will hold up well when having to take a crowbar to them to remove these later on
@@mjf508Best way to install a floating shelf is to use 8" long half inch lag bolts. Drill into your studs, on a level line, 3" plus the thickness of your drywall. Cut the heads off the lags. Drill 1/2" holes into the center edge of 5/4" pine boards as deep as you can where they are marked for where the lags are in the wall, on center for your project, hammer the board onto the lags with, or without glue, then slide your floating shelf over the board, level front to back and use trim screws or 18gauge nails/staples to hold the shelf onto the pine board. To remove: remove screws, slide off still reusable shelf, cut the pine board off the lags, use a vice grip to remove lags, patch 1/2" holes. @@wilsy19 Sadly you need to reach the front side of the bracket to be able to remove the screws. So you would need to rip the whole shelf off of the wall in order to reach the screws, thus destroying the wall.
Hi, I'm a complete DIY newbie, and I need some advice on installing this shelf model on the wall of my living room. Here in Ireland, the walls are made of drywall, and I'll need to drill some holes to install the wall plugs required to attach the shelf. I've noticed that when I knock on certain spots on the wall, the sound is duller, like there might be a stud or something behind it. Should I be concerned about this? Is it possible that there's something behind the wall that shouldn't be drilled into, and that I should avoid making holes there? I will probably have to drill both areas to place the shelf tho. Thanks so much in advance for your help!
LACK shelves have one hole each below, to fix it to the brackets from sliding outwards. For that you have to make sure that those holes in the brackets are facing down while fixing it onto the wall, or you have to fix the brackets all over again.
So you don't get to take the shelf down since you more or less glued it to the wall. Also wouldn't you want to try and get at least one of those wall mounts screwed into a wall stud?
OK if LACK shelf is a permanent fixture, but not if to be removed at later date. Try inserting 2 @ long plastic wall plug in the hole, add Lack shelf and screws at least it doesn't wiggle and can be removed later.
I'd like to see if it wiggles when you try to make it do so. I just installed a large ikea lack shelf. The mount is secure but it's the prongs coming out that are questionable. I want to make sure I've done an OK job. It wiggles a bit
I just mounted a 190cm long one yesterday. I mounted it upside down because the shelf is high up and and I didn't want to be able to see the screws from below. There's a little wiggle though so I was worried it could have had something to do with it being upside down. I guess I'll just leave it as is seeing as the wiggle seems to be a design feature 😂
This is a great video except ill never be able to remove this "cheap and cheerful" shelf ...ir have to rip it out!! And if the shelf was damaged and i wanted to replace woth just the shelf, id never be able to.
Just get a couple of brackets and put them underneath the Lack shelf. I know it defeats the purpose of the whole "floating shelf" gimmick but at least it makes them a lot safer.
Next video, how to remove the shelf😂

My thoughts exactly!
And how to patch a wall

TLDR: He suggests gluing it to wall and never being able to take it off (for sure people buying IKEA furniture are buying it for life...)
I think it was an ad for the Multi-use adhesive more than anything else. Has a link for THAT but not the shelf.
On the next Episode: How to explain your Landlord, that he needs a new wall, when you move out
That is what I need. A solution for tilted shelf.. Thanks dear
Great video, Need some advice. I live in an apt. so how do you safely remove the shelf with all that sealant inside?
First step would be to remove the wall
that's the fun part - you dont!
It's permanent after applying that sealant
He only.put the sealant on the area the bracket would touch not the wall

I wonder if you could do something similar with putting sealant in the holes but put some cling film around the brackets to make a removable version🤔
That's part of the house now...
True. I came for some efficient video but …….
Nice... But... when you need to take the shelf off. How do you do it?
you can't.. you'll need to rip it off from wall
you don't lol
A stronger way is the longer way to go..
Sledgehammer mate
😂😂😂😂 was thinkiing the same

What’s the purpose of drilling the final screw in the middle under the shelf?

It appears this shelf was installed on a concrete or masonry wall. Every one of those holes with plugs would be quite solid.

Not seen Craig in forever nice video!
Have you considered mounting it the studs instead of drywall?

doesn't matter if it wiggles a bit, if you don't want that to happen don't use floating shelves use traditional ones
Why wasn't it shown on camera that the shelf was level?
3 inch screws into the studs, why glue it? The shelf will break before the screw or stud does.
Because it starts to lean forward..he was showing how to mount it necessarily but how to keep it from dropping forward.
Using adhesive doesn't sound like a good Idea, I fitted one of these, yes there is a small amount of movement, not enough to glue the shelf.

What do you call that blue device that he uses to detect if there are any cables behind the drilling spot?

Here in the states, is multi use like liquid nails?

can you use a short level to balance the 74" Lack shelf from the center?
I installed the same IKEA one but mine is sagging. Why is that? Please help thanks

What diameter to be drilled?
And there you have a shelf for aaaaaall your life. Just cut the wall to remove the shelf
Hi, what kind of sealant can i e for this?
That just trebled the price of the actual shelf... Cheers
what's that last screw you screwed in at the end of the video??
Exactly, didn't get that why do you even need to screw there
@@flipside2592 I believe its to secure the shelf in place or else you can just pull out the shelf (if the multi-use was not applied)
The shelf is fixed to the bracket prongs with those screws.
Very good tip
Many thanks
Yeah... well, that's one way to never be able to take that shelf down.
What size screws???
50mm
What’s with the foot long drill bit? 🤣🤣
Some like it long 😁
I put all screws plus plugs in, 5 books on there and it bends like a mf
That's all well and fine until you want to remove the shelf. Be prepared to make a major wall repair.
does not tell us what he is drilling at 4:30
Now try to remove it lmao 😂
Craig!!
thank you
Jesus you had to bend the pins a bit
Teh dust tip is genius
Just use low tack tape, otherwise you'll risk leaving a sticky residue or damaging the paint
How the hell does adding some adhesive to the fixings all of sudden bring it into level? Extra strength yes, level? Get real!
What size screws?
