Amazing review man, you got me sold and bought one and love it. I used your color profile too, what's that doing in detail when installing that profile ?
Thanks! The ICC profile applies calibration and profiling. And the profiling part tells compatible programs (like Photoshop etc) which real life colors the display can show and which digital value the program needs to send to accomplish that.

I've never owned a gaming computer or monitor and wanted a starter setup. I picked this up at a BestBuy near me for $250. Don't really have anything to compare it to, but so far I'm really happy with it.
Im getting this monitor for the simple fact that i got the hp omen 30L desktop tower. It matches the monitor so my simple mind loves that. Also i dont want a 1080p monitor and i dont only want to be capped at 60hz so 1440p at 144-165hz is a perfect balance. All the other positive features are a plus.
I picked up this monitor a couple days ago for $250 for a Black Friday deal at Best Buy, the first one I got was DOA, the top of the monitor had a red bleed through so I had to go back yesterday and exchange it. Now with this new one, the panel looks way better even. The screen is beautiful, the 165hz refresh rate is really nice (g-sync works GREAT) and the colors really pop out. Text is super crisp and pleasing to read. Watching a 12K video makes it look like you're staring out a window. For $250 you can't pass this up, but I would not pay $400 for it.
2 Questions: 1. Is 10 bit vs. 8 bit noticeable? Do the colors and images look better? 2. Would you recommend buying the LG27GL850 since it has the 1.4 DP and is Right now around 100€ cheaper or does the Omen 27i has other advantages beside the 165 Hz?
Yet another great review. It seems like you have a knack for reviewing the monitors I am interested in buying! Only the M27Q is missing - for now! Would you consider the 27i to be the superior monitor over the S2721DGF due to its performance edge using adaptive sync? If price wasn't a concern, which one you would get? Cheers for the review!
Thanks! I already have an eye on the M27Q... I wouldn't say either of the Dell or HP is really superior in a real world scenario. The advantage in terms of smearing is there for the 27i when using adaptive sync, but it's really small. That's something that's only visible when closely comparing both side by side. That being said I personally, given equal prices, would go for the 27i just because I like its design lol
@@techlessYT Thanks for the reply! I mean the design could be a tie breaker, as the two monitors are so similar - it's a reason as good as any! I also think it looks a bit better. Hope you have a merry Christmas!
Are you perhaps going to review HP Omen 25i too? Suddently it went from $350 in 2021 to $160 in US, £155 in GB and €189 in Spain now... Do you think it's worth buying?
I just received my unit and I noticed that the sides are darker as you mention in your video (around 5:29). It's visible with white backgrounds, for instance when I'm browsing. Didn't notice it with my previous 24" LED monitor. Is this a normal thing happening with all IPS monitors? It's kind of annoying... The rest is fantastic though, perhaps too bright and colors a bit too saturared but great and beautiful monitor!
Many of the most uniform panels actually use IPS technology. Non-uniformities can occur with any panel technology, so I wouldn't consider any current technology as far better or worse in that regard. Though it usually is harder to manufacture bigger monitors with good uniformity, so your 24" had an advantage here.
@@techlessYT So it seems that seeing darker borders in white backgrounds is kind of normal with this monitor and other similar monitors, right? I just notice that increasing the brightness it reduces the effect (I set up to 25, 75 contrast, the original settings was crazy bright!)
I recently purchased this monitor but chose to return it. It is a very monitor good but I've been spoiled by using a 43 inch 4K television as my computer screen for 2 years. It may not be as fast but I couldn't handle the difference in size.
@@abdelmoniemelsheikh3632 yes i do its more on the good looking side but i had it running on 1ms on cod MW and couldn't really see ghosting or anything. I love my HP omen bestbuy has it for 380 bucks man i paid 500 for it its worth it!
Hi, @techless! Thank you for the review. It made me think a lot. I saw LG for 395 eur and this hp model around 415. And your video made me confused, as technically they are almost the same with some caveats. Is 20 eur price difference and 10bit@144 worth the buy? Or should I rather go for the 165 hz hp variant? Thank you in advance!
The benefits of 10 bit (8 bit + FRC) at 144 Hz are pretty negligible - I personally wouldn't give anything on that. The difference between 144 Hz and 165 Hz is subtle, for some this will be worth 20€, others couldn't care less. So in my opinion in comes down to price and design. If you ask me, I would get the 27i for 20€, because I like its design and would take the 165 Hz as a nice little bonus.
So PS5 does not support 1440p natively BUT can this monitor support a 4K signal and sample it down to 1440p? I know some BenQ monitors do but I really want to know how I can do that on my Omen 27i
Perfect review. Thank you very much. You earned my sub. The Dell 2721dgf uses the same nano ips panel from lg. I have 2 questions mate: The 27gn850 seems to be a little improvement compared to the 27gl850 in regard to contrast ratio and black quality. Is the 27gn850 better for content creation compared to this Omen ? At last, concerning panel reliability, from a pixel durability perspective, do you think lg panels are above competitors such as innolux or auo optronics ? Thank you bro
I haven't tested the LGs, but the Dell came with the V2 nano IPS while the Omen 27i I reviewed had the V1. The panel related differences basically came down to usual variance. So, I think the same applies to GN vs GL. From a reviewer's perspective it's almost impossible to say anything useful about long term reliability. I usually only test one sample and usually over a period of weeks rather than months or even years.
@@techlessYT Thanks a ton for your thoughts. Rtings seem to confirm that the 27gn850 is a little better (manifesting through their direct comparison tool with results side by side), but i agree with you, it's probably well within variance. Concerning panel reliability, it's indeed too complicated to compare, but it's so difficult to find reliable infos on these, just read about an ancient deal between Hitachi and Lg for the production of ips panel.
Anyway, i ended up following your wise advice and bought the Acer XV272UP, which uses the same panel as yours... thanks for your videos and recommendations.. it's a perfect monitor, very balanced ;-)
Yeah with the no hdmi 2.1 on monitors yet I think this is the best option for responsive gaming. If you have a 4k TV you can also hook the series x up to that to play like an RPG or something where response times don't matter as much. I ended up buying this omen also and it has been great
Hi Techless! First off thanks for the indepth review :) I am trying to decide on the 27i vs the GL83a. Maybe silly question but, the 27i is around $400 more than the GL83a in my area . So would you say that its not worth it for the better design and same panel?
So a while ago i bought the HP Omen with 27". Now i am looking for a second screen and i am not really sure, if the Omen 27i has major improvement than the other. Which one would you recommend for gaming?
26 brightness - ok, *how about contrast settings?* I didn't spot this info in your video. Could you please help out? I facing this Omen 27i and comparing it to Dell2724D, tough choice ehh....
First off, incredible review. This is some really impressive content for a smaller channel, excellent work. I do have a quick question for you - I bought this monitor several weeks ago and have been having issues with dizziness and headaches. I am thinking it is due to the nano-ips tech since other ips devices don't bother me. I've lowered settings like brightness, level 1 response time, and blue light mode. Something I tried today is lowering it to 120hz and enabling 10 bit color. My thinking is maybe it will act like a normal ips under these settings? You know a ton more about this tech than me so I was hoping you may have suggestions. I think I am outside the return window since I had assumed it was the jump from 1080p to 1440p bothering me and I'd get used to it. Thank you so much!
Thanks! The nano coating absorbs some light in the orange and yellow spectrum. This is done to get purer red and green light. Thanks to that, larger color gamuts can be displayed. I would be very surprised if the nano coating or the resulting narrower red and green light spectrums could cause headaches - never heard anything like that. There's even a study suggesting that narrow band green light can help against migraine. Maybe the high color saturation bothers you? The ICC profile should help in some cases, at least in color managed applications. Going to 120 Hz 10 Bit could potentially cause more headaches as this is a 8 Bit + FRC mode. The pixels essential "flicker" between two colors to render a color in between. So you should stick to 8 Bits. Trying the lowest overdrive settings and turning down the brightness would've also been my suggestion. I unfortunately don't have any other ideas, sorry. In a dark room you should turn the brightness down to 0. During daylight a value around 26 usually is a good setting and anything below 0 to 26 for somewhat dim lighting conditions.
@@techlessYT I appreciate the reply! In case anyone comes across this with the same issues the last couple days have been better and I am not entirely sure why as there are a few variables. I went back to 8bit 165hz and turned on dynamic contrast. Standard mode RGB 252/242/252 brightness 25 contrast 78, overdrive level 1. For whatever reason these settings seem to work for me. Dynamic contrast seems to make the screen brighter but somehow it is in a way that is less upsetting to my eyes. Again, it may just be getting used to 1440p or something and it randomly clicked now, but i am just happy I can fully enjoy this great monitor as I love everything else about it.
Hey! Great video thank you for sharing the ICC profile that you were able to do. I hesitate with the OMEN X 27 it would be for gaming and watching movies / series which you would advise me? I don't play super fast FPS. Thank you very much for reading me :)
The X 27 is a completely different monitor. It has a TN panel in contrast to the IPS panel of the 27i. I would absolutely not recommend a TN panel if competitive gaming isn't your top priority.
Hi. First off great video. Keep it up. What 1440p high refresh rate monitor would you recommend for gaming with good colour and contrast in the 300-450 range. Struggling in deciding. Many thanks in advance. This one is currently on sale for 400 hence my consideration
2:15 I let my headphones hang only from the top headband only, keeping the ear cups off the stand. Still, a poor design for people who assume you should put the ear cups over the monitor stand.

Just got mine. Do they all have a small in screen bezel across the sides and top? I can’t get my image to corner to corner. Even with adjusting the scaling in Nvidia control panel. Thanks
Is there any way to enable ULMB in the OMEN software or in the monitor menu? I have switched to 120fps in the nvidia controlpanel but i can only find G-sync compability, and no ULMB! :/
There are no ULMB or other blur reduction techniques available. As far as I know the ViewSonic XG270QG is the only monitor that uses the LG's panel with blur reduction. But according to Hardware Unboxed the panel does not work together well with blur reduction.
I got this monitor finally. I'm very happy so far (esp with the design, I'm with you on this one for sure), with one problem though. I was testing backlight bleeding/ips glow on full brightness in completely dark room and while looking at it seemed more or less fine, in a picture I took with my phone it looks terrible, it's like basically glowing orange/creamy in 3 corners and blue/light blue everywhere else. Now I'm not sure if I should return it, I don't have anything to compare it to to see if that's acceptable level or not... And I'm torn as well, because it's very bad in the picture, but seemed ok-ish while looking at it in reality (to be more clear: the picture I took does not resemble what I see when looking at it). Would you have any advice on how to judge the amount/level/seriousness of backlight bleeding?
Don't give to much on the photo. It's pretty hard to accurately and reliably take photos of backlight bleed. Your phone's auto exposure and post processing probably are what makes the photo look weird. Just judge what you're seeing with your eyes.
@@techlessYT Thank you for taking the time to answer. Even without that your content is splendid and even though now that I have my monitor I theoretically wouldn't need to watch you anymore, I still do, just because of the quality. And on top of that you are helpful like here. I couldn't find reliable info about taking pics of backlight bleed so I thought I could ask here :).
@@techlessYT Hello again! Glad to see your channel grow, still watching your vids :). I recently installed your ICC profile for the Omen and I noticed it sets the response time on level 1 and forces it back whenever I try to change it to level 4 (which is supposedly the fastest - it says so in the menu). Is that intended? Shouldnt it be set to fastest?
Idk if you will respond since this is a old video but how did you fin out the contrast ratio for your monitor and is it something i can easily do myself.
Would you get HP 27i or Dell S2721DGF? I had an HP ZR2440w monitor years ago before but its anti-glare coating looked grainy on white & light background, is it the same for the 27i? Comparing the sub-pixel photos, the Dell looks more sharp. Not sure if this is a good representation for a grainy coating. Non-grainy and good uniformity is more important to me.
The S2721DGF and 27i have the same coating. I'm not exactly sure what you mean with a grainy coating but pretty much any monitor these days comes with an anti reflective coating. And I would say the coating is pretty similar on most modern monitors.
@@techlessYT Best way I can think of to describe it is like looking at film grain. I saw 2 reviews on HP website for the 27" 240hz mention grainy looking anti-reflect coating so 27i is possibly the same. I've also had a Dell Ultrasharp before, the coating had a minimal grainy look but still noticeable to those that are familiar with it. I currently have a LG 34" 21:9 60hz and the coating is excellent. Clear and no perceivable graininess.
Hey man, amazing review for sure! I just bought this monitor to play on my xbox one s and for future the new xbox series x. But as if the image while I play red dead redemption 2 is not that sharp I was I was thinking it would be... idk if is the sethings I put is wrong or maybe my hdmi cable is not 2.0, cause it doesnt say it. So im very confuse! And no idea on level 4 response time it has ghosting when it says on their specs 1ms, why saying 1ms when u cant use it? I hope u can answer me man..🙏
Great review thanks! I am now confused between choosing the 27i or the 27x. I am looking for a gaming monitor but also need to work creatively (foto edits, graphic design, ...). Furthermore, my GPU is a 5600xt making me unsure about the 27i as it is g sync? Certainly, I will not reach 240hz with AAA titles and this GPU, but I mainly play LOL, WOW, Overwatch. Maybe an upgrade will be made in the future to a Big Navi. Advice would be highly appreciated and keep up this nice work - liked and subscribed.
Thanks! The Omen X 27 has a TN panel and I would strongly advise against a TN panel for any creative work. The X 27 and 27i both support Freesync as well as Gsync, so you can use Freesync with your AMD card. You will probably get something like 100 FPS in WOW and Overwatch with maxed out graphic settings, but setting everything to low should probably get you pretty close to 240 FPS. LOL shouldn't be a problem at all. I haven't tested the X 27, but it probably is a good monitor for gaming. Though I would absolutely not recommend a TN panel for any creative work.
I think the 27i is a good choice for mixed usage. It's a bit more focused on gaming than creative work due the mediocre black level, but great ghosting performance.
I have this monitor and I like it. However, I have one issue, I want to mount this on a desk monitor mount. At the time I bought it, I never thought of getting a monitor mount. Any suggestions?

@@Peanutbutter_madden awesome thanks. I just bought this monitor new yesterday for $300 usd. Level 2 seemed like the sweet spot for gaming
thanks so much for your reviews i was at best buy and i was choosing between this ($380) and the dell s2721dgf ($499)
ended up going with this 👍
Same! Can’t wait to get home and put it to use.
Awesome review!! You won a like and a sub !!
Best review ever
I picked up this monitor a couple days ago for $250 for a Black Friday deal at Best Buy, the first one I got was DOA, the top of the monitor had a red bleed through so I had to go back yesterday and exchange it. Now with this new one, the panel looks way better even. The screen is beautiful, the 165hz refresh rate is really nice (g-sync works GREAT) and the colors really pop out. Text is super crisp and pleasing to read. Watching a 12K video makes it look like you're staring out a window. For $250 you can't pass this up, but I would not pay $400 for it.
Oh and the LED lighting is pretty cool too
Same bro! My lady grabbed it for Christmas, I’m excited for it.
This video is nice I like this TH-cam channel
such a great monitor, might get it soon
2 Questions: 1. Is 10 bit vs. 8 bit noticeable? Do the colors and images look better? 2. Would you recommend buying the LG27GL850 since it has the 1.4 DP and is Right now around 100€ cheaper or does the Omen 27i has other advantages beside the 165 Hz?
Great review man.
this si the best reveiw I have ever seen on any monitor. Keep up the great work. I must subscribe
I want to know the answer to this, looking at buying the 25i as well.
@@davidareia Hey, sorry to bother, but did you also set the dynamic contrast on it? I recently bought mine and I am looking for the best specs for it.
I ordered mine and I’m still waiting I hope I made the right choice ! I’m not really good at monitors but I do like games 😂
It’s amazing. I had the Dell Gaming S2716DGR and Omen is much better. Feels more premium and much classier than any other gaming monitor in that class

I recently purchased this monitor but chose to return it. It is a very monitor good but I've been spoiled by using a 43 inch 4K television as my computer screen for 2 years. It may not be as fast but I couldn't handle the difference in size.
Turning on dynamic contrast greatly improves the monitor.

If you ask me, I would get the 27i for 20€, because I like its design and would take the 165 Hz as a nice little bonus.
would you mind sharing your contrast and brightness levels for daytime use? thanks
So PS5 does not support 1440p natively BUT can this monitor support a 4K signal and sample it down to 1440p? I know some BenQ monitors do but I really want to know how I can do that on my Omen 27i
Did you find this out? Need to know the same !!!
@@legendarymoji I have this monitor and a PS5. Unfortunately, I can confirm this monitor does not do that :(
Perfect review. Thank you very much. You earned my sub.
The Dell 2721dgf uses the same nano ips panel from lg.
I have 2 questions mate:
The 27gn850 seems to be a little improvement compared to the 27gl850 in regard to contrast ratio and black quality.
Great review! Would you recommend this monitor for use with the new Xbox Series X?
Yea it’s a great option, especially since there are no 2.1 hdmi 4k monitors that will take full advantage of the series x yet, this is perfect
Just got it for my series x, even tho it doesn’t do 4K at 60fps, i get 1440 at 120 FPS
Yeah with the no hdmi 2.1 on monitors yet I think this is the best option for responsive gaming. If you have a 4k TV you can also hook the series x up to that to play like an RPG or something where response times don't matter as much. I ended up buying this omen also and it has been great
Does this monitor share the same panel of the HP X27I?
Hi Techless! First off thanks for the indepth review :) I am trying to decide on the 27i vs the GL83a. Maybe silly question but, the 27i is around $400 more than the GL83a in my area . So would you say that its not worth it for the better design and same panel?
Wow that's a huge price difference! I can of course only speak for myself, but I would not spend that much more for esthetics.
Omen i27 worth it. At least for my Xbox series 🤫
So a while ago i bought the HP Omen with 27". Now i am looking for a second screen and i am not really sure, if the Omen 27i has major improvement than the other. Which one would you recommend for gaming?
I like this monitor but the colors on it or kind of bland. Any tips? Wish there was a saturation setting
Hi, vor kurzem ist der Hp Omen 27qs rausgemomme. Wie ist der Monitor und lohnt es sich den für 320 euro zu kaufen?
@@techlessYT That's what I thought, thank you very much! :)
Hi. First off great video. Keep it up. What 1440p high refresh rate monitor would you recommend for gaming with good colour and contrast in the 300-450 range. Struggling in deciding. Many thanks in advance. This one is currently on sale for 400 hence my consideration
Thank you, really good overview. I'm trying to figure out is it worth to take this monitor or choose HP X27q on TN film?
2:15 I let my headphones hang only from the top headband only, keeping the ear cups off the stand. Still, a poor design for people who assume you should put the ear cups over the monitor stand.
Hey not sure if you've seen it before but would you recommend this or the Asus VG27AQ? Thanks!
Great review
This beauty just arrived, can't wait to use it! Try switching up "aswell" with some other words from time to time, it gets repetative. Great video!
Hi! Good rewiew. Is this IPS monitor as fast as tn-film 144hz monitors?
Thanks! You may find a few faster TN panels, but generally speaking it's TN-like performance.
@@techlessYT Thanks! Now I use Benq xl2720z 144Hz for games, the monitor is fast, the picture in motion is very clear, but I already want to buy something with 2k resolution. I hope the HP Omen 27i will suit me)
Just got mine. Do they all have a small in screen bezel across the sides and top? I can’t get my image to corner to corner. Even with adjusting the scaling in Nvidia control panel. Thanks
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but the screen doesn't extent all the way to the edge. It should look like at e.g. 8:10
hell yeah dude
8AC94AA is the official HP product Number. Has nothing to do with the product name which is indeed just OMEN 27i
Very Good review! THX! Which 27 Zoll IPS Monitor ist better than the Omen 27i ips? With 10 Bit Colorroom?
If you want to use 10 Bits of color depth and also want LG's fast IPS panel, I'd probably go for the LG 27GL850.
what do you think about the HP OMEN 27q?
But as if the image while I play red dead redemption 2 is not that sharp I was I was thinking it would be... idk if is the sethings I put is wrong or maybe my hdmi cable is not 2.0, cause it doesnt say it. its $369 on Best buy right now. This is a steal!!!
Thank you very much for the quick and thorough reply! Therefor would you recommend the 27i for a mixed use?
I think the 27i is a good choice for mixed usage. It's a bit more focused on gaming than creative work due the mediocre black level, but great ghosting performance.
I have a question tho, do the ICC Profile improves the Contrast Issues or just Colors?
