I own one of these monitors, response time in "fast" is no where near quick enough with plenty of overshoot at 165hz. Fast is good enough for 60hz but superfast is the absolute best all round setting for 60-165hz range. If you can lock 165fps in game then the Extremely fast setting is the best. For anyone who's interested in this one and the similar monitors from LG you need to know that dell comes with a 3 year warranty and the LG counter part only comes with a 1 year warranty. The LG GL850 and GN850 can be over locked to 160hz which seems to never be mentioned. Dell just does it for you. Though that minimum amount of extra hz is not noticeable anyhow
@@clawson32104 well they overlook the 165hz because the naked eye won't be able to tell a difference between 144hz and 165hz. The higher the refresh rate, the bigger difference there needs to be to notice a difference. That's why 240hz and 360hz monitors exist.

So are these compatible with hdmi 2.1, for next gen consoles? Looking to upgrade for next gen, and am pretty lost as to what I'm actually needing. Any help much appreciated!
@@antoniovega6241 that's where alot of my confusion comes from I guess. I really don't know enough about 2.1 tech, and I see many videos giving conflicting views of what it "needs" to work. Guess I'll just wait until next year to upgrade the monitor and see what happens.
If you really want to future proof, then yeah you should wait for HDMI 2.1 monitors. That's always how it goes with tech right? :D However, if you're after the promise of 4K 120Hz gaming, realistically speaking most AAA console games will never be able to hit that. Don't believe the hype. Even if you transition into PC gaming, you'd have to have a disgustingly expensive PC to hit that holy grail even on medium to high graphics settings. Forget 4K 120Hz with all settings maxed out. That's a pipe dream right now. If you don't believe me, look up gameplay videos of Red Dead Redemption 2 running on a PC equipped with the RTX 3090. Keep in mind that that game came out in 2018, and the RTX 3090 alone costs at least 3 times as much as a PS5 or an XSX. Will there be 4K 120Hz next gen console games? Most likely, but they'll be racing games, FPS games and 2D games, not the God of War or Horizon-caliber ones. If you're not planning to play at 4K (case in point, the Dell monitor in the video maxes out at 1440p) or are fine with 4K 60Hz, then HDMI 2.0 monitors will be more than good enough for you. The real advantage of HDMI 2.1 for the PS5 and XSX in my opinion are variable refresh rate (VRR) and automatic low latency mode (ALLM). VRR is more commonly known in the PC world under the marketed names of NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD Freesync. A monitor with VRR adjusts its refresh rate to the game's frame rate on the fly for a smoother output. This means that a monitor with VRR support will not always display at the refresh rate that you set. While that may seem like a bad thing, it's actually good because consoles and PCs can sometimes have trouble consistently producing your preset frame rate. The more things are happening on screen, the more likely you are to drop frames. VRR mitigates the choppy experience by adjusting its refresh rate accordingly. If you can put two and two together, this means VRR is a bigger deal for TVs, because right now only a handful of them support this (LG's CX OLED TVs for example), but there are already a ton of HDMI 2.0 monitors that support G-Sync and Freesync. ALLM is a lot simpler and is more of a convenience, but it will still benefit a lot of people, since most of us don't bother fiddling with settings. In short, this feature allows the connected device to tell the HDMI 2.1 display to automatically switch to its lowest input latency setting, so your keyboard or gamepad inputs will feel as responsive as the display can allow.
@@eschreck814 No problem! Just cut through the marketing and the hype and stick to what YOU need and what YOU can afford. That's all that matters. I know it can be hard to ignore or not want these cool things - I used to be like that, until I started having financial troubles. Now I look at my midrange phone and I cannot fathom why on earth I bought flagship phones when something like this is perfectly fine for my needs. You just have to stick up for yourself, because everyone's trying their best to make you feel like you don't have enough. But you're the one who has to deal with what you buy and the money you lose. @@RTINGSdotcom I noticed that the calibrated rgb values from the video, are different that the values on the website review. wich ones are the good ones? Thanks you guys!
There are two types of connections on the back: HDMI and DisplayPort. Most desktops with a graphics card have a displayport output. So, use the included displayport cable and connect it to the displayport output and input respectively. The shape of the displayport headee is different from the usual HDMI and the ports are labeled, so don't worry about getting it wrong. If you're using a laptop, many only have HDMI, so you'll likely be stuck on the lower refresh rate.

I could be wrong but I don’t think many monitors have hdmi 2.1 right now and the ones that do have a hefty price tag of around $600 and up
@@antoniovega6241 that's where alot of my confusion comes from I guess.
@@iatwiatw thank you for the thorough response!
@@eschreck814 No problem! Just cut through the marketing and the hype and stick to what YOU need and what YOU can afford. That's all that matters. What do you mean by display port instead of HDMI? I just ordered the 32” version of this monitor, so I want the higher refresh rate.

It's a great overall choice. The large, high-resolution screen makes it easier to see more of your work at once. It has excellent ergonomics and an amazing horizontal viewing angle, so you can easily share the screen with clients or colleagues. It has a superb SDR color gamut, with good coverage of the Adobe RGB color space. The biggest downfall is that it has disappointing accuracy out of the box, so it might be necessary to have it professionally calibrated. Hope this helps!
Can someone help me with some settings advices? My panel has the colors a bit oversaturated, the reds ar too bright and the colors doesnt feel quite right..
Hello!
At the moment, the only recommended settings we offer for monitors can be found in our reviews: www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/s2721dgf
In this case, it might even be worth trying out our ICC profile to see if it helps. pcmonitors.info/articles/using-icc-profiles-in-windows/ Hope this helps!
@@RTINGSdotcom Thanks for the fast response! I allready use this ICC profile :D.
I think is something from the monitor settings..
@@adrianclaudiuvizitiu3001 get 27gp850 instead. it has srgb mode which is super accurate colors. you can tweak further using graphics card control panel.
Torn between the s2721dgf and the s3220dgf would splurge for the samsung odyssey g7, but I dont think its worth 700 beans
I have the same dilema.
@@jazon9 is one standing out more than the other? I went to best buy today to check them out. They had the 2721dgf and the 3220dgf, I have to say the colors looked better to me on the 27 variant, the 32 seemed alittle dull, but it could have just been what was running on the demo. They didn't have the g7 there, they had a similar samsung. I might narrow my choices to the odyssey g7 and s2721dgf

They both stack up well vs the Dell & Samsung, @ $600 & $480, respectively.
One is an IPS panel, the other is VA. I prefer the VA for better contrast, and uniformity (S3220).
I got the s3220dgf, the colours are very good out of the box without much calibration needed, backlight uniformity is excellent to the point where I think the monitor is turned off if it's showing a black screen. Contrast ratio is good for games and movies. If you consume a lot of media then I think VA is the way to go. Overall very happy with it.
got it on sale at microcenter for 430, price matched with best buy for free shipping, they still have some at the stores (only certain stores have stock at 430 tho)
