I avoided getting a 980 Pro with it's own heatsink simply for the fact that it would severely limit you to what you can use it in. It's not going to fit inside a laptop or external adapter for example. The ElecGear or Sabrent heatsink cover paired with the 980 Pro (without a built-on heatsink) seemed like the way to go to future-proof the M.2 for when the PS5 is pretty much obsolete. Unless the PS6 comes with the same oversized slot without it's own heatsink, I can repurpose the 980 Pro

Did you use both the thin graphene film and a thermal pad on the heatsink? Thanks for your help and excellent job on the comparison! The temperatures are rather impressive with the ElecGear heatsink + T-Force Cardea A440 SSD.

A ssd uses what 5-8 watts. Watts are watts and thought SSDs can get hot the actual amount of heat they put out is practically nothing. I wouldn’t expect it to affect the overall heat of the system.
Excellent video as always with great detailed explanations! Are you able to do the XPG GAMMIX S70 blade with its standard heatsink temperatures during gameplay? I bought that for my ps5 but am considering a sabrent or elecgear on top of it. Would be great if you could take your time to test it as its one of the best bang for buck SSD for ps5 in the market right now (at least imo).
I have the Warship pro on my 2tb S70 Blade. Did a thermal test of it in my PC under a giant GPU that gave it little to no passive airflow and the GPU itself outputting heat. Drive did stellar, idle at 36c and didn't go past 55c during stress test. Gaming doesn't hit the drives like stress tests and hundreds of GB file transfers back to back. Sits perfect in the PS5 bay and hits ~6200mb/s with the PS5 benchmark
Great video! I am curious, when it comes time to upgrade the ssd storage on the ps5, any ideas on how to transfer data off the drive and onto a new one? Especially if the onboard storage is completely full.
Im getting my ps5 (for Xmas). I won't be upgrading the SSD for a while, but when I do, could I use a firecuda with elecgear heatsink (or sabrent heatsink)
I’ve used the Sabrent H/S with a Firecuda 530 1tb. Have no complaints yet . As per another video on this channel he demonstrates how the sabrent heatsink does touch heatsinkless SSDs to offer reliable cooling.
I have just installed a 4TB ssd for my PS5. Do I have the Sabrent heatsink. As the 4TB has chips on both sides, do I have to have a heat stripe on both sides of the SSD? I only have one between the SSD and the Sabrent heatsink!
G’day. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now for all the PS5 stuff and got to say, they are the best around 👌🏻. I do come to you with a question though. Have you done any testing with the Kingston KC3000 in the ps5? The wife of spoiling me this Christmas and I believe this is what she has got me. Would it be worth trying to send it back for a firecuda ? What’s your opinion?
I'm new here so sorry if this is a dumb question to ask, but will a heatsink help the overall temperature and performance of a PS5 even if it only has its original SSD? Or Heatsinks only work when you are adding another SSD to the console?
You use a heatsink only when you are installing another SSD to the console. The PS5’s default SSD is already installed with the heatsink by Sony. So you only need to buy a third party heatsink only when you buy a third party SSD
I don't think it would make enough of a difference to justify spending money on a sabrent or elecgear when you don't have any expanded storage installed in the m.2 slot of the PS5
Do you have to re-fit the ps5 cover ? Doesn't it defeat the object of the heat sink and stops the fan drawing the warm air away from it,?? With the latest ps5 they run around 20 degrees cooler so would ot matter that the wd ssd runs a little hotter ?
What about sabrent heatsink cover with sn850 but mine has the heatsink already but my sn850 is literally giving me " ps5 too hot but without it installed runs all day no error so what should i do because its the 2tb wd
Would it be overkill to install a Firecuda with it's heatsink as well as a Sabrent heatsink? I live in South Florida. My PS5 is in an area close to my house thermostat and the heat does causes the AC to run so I need to keep heat to a minimum. All comments welcomed.
That wouldn't really work. You want the sabrent heatsink to make direct contact with the ssd chips via thermal pads... Not with another heatsink. Way more inefficient. Not to mention that I don't think it would fit.
Also you can tell the wd ran on a hotter day. Even before the first test it was hotter before it even had a chance to get hot. And ambient temp is so much hotter too
You can't use the Elecgear with an SSD that already has a heatsink, the elecgear is very deep in profile and designed around a bare SSD (and thermal pads of course)
I ended up paying the extra AU$250 for the Firecuda 530 2TB over the Aorus 7000s 2TB as I looked at the longer life & thermals being better & I had the extra money at the time. Glad I avoided the WD Black though, yikes that runs hot!
@@Disk-Etiquette did you have to put on any of the included extra stuff in the elecgear to raise the ssd up more? If not does it make enough contact to it? Like can you feel the thermal pad touching it? I'm planning on getting the elecgear but am worried about it not making the best contact
Planning to upgrade my SSD to a 4tb soon for the PS5. I'm debating on purchasing a WD black or Firecuda (without their heatsinks) and getting the elecgear....will that work or be overkill? :)
The question is: For me as tech fan… should I order the Elecgear or stay with my Standard be quiet heatsink? It seems that the overall temperature of the system won’t be heavily affected by the ssd whatever kind of heatsink you will use.
I went from the Be Quiet MC1 to the Elecgear EL-P5C and combined it with the Gelid Solutions GP-Ultimate 15W/mk thermal pads. Frankly if you see this tiny and bad ventilated slot for the NVMe just with that one-fan-negative-pressure principle through those two little openings from Sony, it left you behind with some questions and it’ll let you start to crank the gearwheels in your head automatically, especially if you have such a heat producing m.2 only half covered 😄 But in the end it seems to work better then expected and that’s all I want 🍻
@@ELEX0R cheers mate! 🍻
So I want the firecuda 2tb but like how the elecgear sink kept temps down the most would it be wise to buy the none heatsink version and running the elecgear over the sebrent one? Or just stick to the factory firecuda heatsink?
Depends on the cost but I think the default heatsink for the firecuda works well
@@naruto2382 but it doesnt. bought an Elecgear and it loered temp drastically.
Very interesting, thanks for making those tests!
Great video.. have you tested the Team Group Cardea A440 ssd in the PS%.. and if so it comes with a Graphine heat shield (flat stick on), if you were to use this type SSD with the shield adhered , then install the Sabrent on top of that ?
Team Grp A440 alos comes with a finned shield, but it is to tall ti use with the PS5 cover installed.
you earned my sub, and a like very detailed, which m.2 do you recommended for the N7 B550 motherboard with or without the cover on. Thanks so much!
I want the elecgear but can I can only find it on Amazon. And it’s “currently unavailable “. Guess I’ll just wait until it’s back in stock before upgrading my ssd. Great vids. Subbed!
Thanks for responding to other questions I’ve had. Think I’ve settled on the firecuda with the heat sink included, was thinking of replacing the stock gray cover for the Sabrent cover. Do you think this ok or not needed & just overkill? #IHateSeagullsTo
Did you went for it? Made the difference? I was thinking to buy elecgear heatsink plate(50$) +ADATA XPG 2tb SSD 180$ ? Should I go for it?
Thanks man for this amazing video that help me to find the solution it brings the ElecGear for PS5 brings for cooling my WD Bkack SN850...
wow 6-7 hours each to test. x4 😮 respect! thanks for effort to educate us. no one else will do. just bought my first ssd - 990 pro samsung 2tb for ps5. overkill I know but futureproof. will by sabrent heatsink instead of elecgear to save some money
@NASCompares
Will you try the new GRAUGEAR PS5 SSD Heatsink Cover, M.2 NVMe PS5 Heatsink, Graphene Copper Foil Heat Dissipation with Heat Pipe Cooler and Aluminum Fin for NVMe M2 PCIe 4.0?
GRAUGEAR created a new heatsink for the PS5.
Can the Firecuda in this video be used with the ElecGear heatsink?
Great video btw
Here is my dilemma , should I buy the 2tb XPG Gammix S70 blade with the Elecgear HS , or the Sabrent rocket 4 plus with HS for the same price for either 1 . $270.00 for each setup? Love your site, came upon it since I just purchased a PS5 .
Do you really think your ssd will last till the ps5 is obsolete?
@@FezCaliphit should. I still have drives from 2000 working. Toshiba hdd1tb
Where did u get that cover for ps5? I really like it. Reminds me of the old PlayStation days😮
Cheers for watching. Just put together a guide on it. Fairly low cost and I am adding this to the end of a video coming soon - nascompares.com/custom-ps2-design-build-for-the-playstation-5/
For the ElecGear heatsink + T-Force Cardea A440 SSD, did you attach the thin graphene film to the ssd AND attach a standard thermal pad to the ElecGear heatsink? I am trying to figure out if I need to use a thermal pad on the ElecGear heatsink if I am already using the thin graphene film that comes with the T-Force Cardea A440 SSD? Did you use both the thin graphene film and a thermal pad on the heatsink? Thanks for your help and excellent job on the comparison! The temperatures are rather impressive with the ElecGear heatsink + T-Force Cardea A440 SSD.
Thank you sir for your videos. Thoughts on GRAUGEAR Metal Heat Dissipation Cover?
Great comparison thank you !
Great testing sir
Will the Sabrent heatsink work with the Gammix s70 blade with the heat spreader installed on the blade???
I have the Firecuda 530 with heatsink. Any idea if the Graugear vented ssd cover would help keep it cooler then stock?
i just seen a PS5 slim teardown and some these heatsinks are not gonna work anymore since the SSD location has move to the right side of the cooling fans 😞
What is your opinion about the dbrand 2.0 case? Will it affect the airflow?
Finally got a PS5 a week ago. I purchased the Seagate Firecuda 530 after watching your videos. Thanks.
Glad to hear it buddy. It's a solid drive with a remarkably low running temp for its scale, fair play to the brand!
Will the Elecgear Heatsink work with the Firecuda 530 2tb with the Heatsink included?
I want the Elecgear heat sick and the Firecuda SSD.
I'm looking for an ssd. Really want the heat to be okay and speeds. Not sure which I need
I got 4tb sn850x black. Cant find a cooler to fit into ps5. It is a dual sided packed ssd i got for 230 usd... i will upgrade to ps5 pro so many coolers are already not suitable for ps5 slim...
What if you replace the stock thermal pads with high end ones, like Gelid or Thermalright? Would that improve the temperature?
Thank you, very informative!
Would leaving the metal cover off of the expansion port improve the cooling for the wd and firecuda?
Its not recommended but you can test it out
A ssd uses what 5-8 watts. Watts are watts and thought SSDs can get hot the actual amount of heat they put out is practically nothing. I wouldn’t expect it to affect the overall heat of the system.
So the best overall for the PS5 would be ?
Am I the only one amazed at how fast he took that ps5 plate off. It takes me at least a min to take it off.
Thanks for your help I went with WD 1TB with the heatsink £148 pounds
3 days ago wish I watched this first
How is it holding up now?
Did you test the original to see what the base model gives ?
So if I have a Seagate Firecuda 530 4TB with stock Heatsink I shouldn’t need to bother removing it and buying the Elecgear heatsink to replace it?
That’s what I’ve got and I bought the elecgear to change it! but don’t think I will bother now tbh unless they go higher than 4tb
I have the 4TB model with the Elecgear and i'm very happy with it, but I wouldn't bother swapping those heatsinks. Your totally fine.
Great video! I am curious, when it comes time to upgrade the ssd storage on the ps5, any ideas on how to transfer data off the drive and onto a new one? Especially if the onboard storage is completely full.
Maybe if you did PS5 > New drive, then Old drive > PS5 then PS5 > New drive again?
@@elliotroberts8298 but what if the PS5 drive is already full? 😬
@@mr1983 You can just transfer it to the new drive, then your ps5 will be free
@@elliotroberts8298 ok but if I have a 1tb ssd drive already in the ps5that’s full and the ps drive is full. And I want to upgrade to a 2tb drive…
Thinking about it… Perhaps I could move it all to an external drive? Then back onto the new one…
Is it possible to pair the wd sn850 w/heatsink WITH the sabrent heatsink for maximum overkill?
I’ve just noticed, they have stopped selling the ElecGear. Anyone know why that is? I can’t find it anywhere not even on Amazon.
The elecgear shines with a higher heated ssd
Maybe people who have the wd sn850 should use elecgear sn850 runs hotttttt
Robbie could you please compare addlink A95 with Firecuda 530? Both have a built in heatsink.
thank you for this video!
I have just installed a 4TB ssd for my PS5. Do I have the Sabrent heatsink. As the 4TB has chips on both sides, do I have to have a heat stripe on both sides of the SSD? I only have one between the SSD and the Sabrent heatsink!
how about the kingston fury renegade ?
i have yet to see any reviews.
Hello Nas can you please compare Firecuda 530 with H/S VS Firecude 530 without H/s + third part H/s like sabrent and Elecgare
Can you do a test with the firecuda ssd with heatsink with the elecgear heatsink cover
That's one of the few I haven't had my hands on to yet I'm afraid. Sorry man
Sweet thanks for the prompt reply. I’ll just give it a go I reckon.
Can you combo a firecuda with an additional heatsink?
Would you be able to do dbrand 2nd gen plate temperature review please
I don't consider these reading hot. warm - yes. it's not even a fever temp. so al these are fine.
Now which heatsink do you preferred
That Ps2 retro case is dope, specially cuz of the little colored logo.
@@Sneakyboson Thanks! Shortly after posting my comment, I purchased and installed a Firecuda. It has performed flawlessly.
Also you can tell the wd ran on a hotter day. Even before the first test it was hotter before it even had a chance to get hot. And ambient temp is so much hotter too
Can u use a electgear heatsink with a firecuda with a heatsink?
You can't use the Elecgear with an SSD that already has a heatsink, the elecgear is very deep in profile and designed around a bare SSD (and thermal pads of course)
I ended up paying the extra AU$250 for the Firecuda 530 2TB over the Aorus 7000s 2TB as I looked at the longer life & thermals being better & I had the extra money at the time. Glad I avoided the WD Black though, yikes that runs hot!
I have the 1TB WD Black SN850 SSD with the ElecGear heatsink cover to keep it cooler 👍
@@Disk-Etiquette did you have to put on any of the included extra stuff in the elecgear to raise the ssd up more? If not does it make enough contact to it? Like can you feel the thermal pad touching it? I'm planning on getting the elecgear but am worried about it not making the best contact
Should I use gelid 1mm or 1.5mm thermal pad with the firecuda 530 2tb and elecgear heatsink
That PS5 shell cover is awesome.
Planning to upgrade my SSD to a 4tb soon for the PS5. I'm debating on purchasing a WD black or Firecuda (without their heatsinks) and getting the elecgear....will that work or be overkill? :)
@grayfox82 I bought the 4tb firecuda and the elecgear ... and I was wondering if you could use them at the same time😅...?
I was wondering that too im tempted to buy both
@McMentall well you can't do the ELECGEAR and an SSD with its heatsink... theres not enough room unfortunately
Would it make any difference if your not running an ssd?

HE SAYS ' DO YOU NEED SOMETHING THAT DOESNT REALLY MATTER. '
I would say it's worth it if you play long sessions and I do believe it will make a difference in the middle of the summer when ambient temperatures are higher. The Be Quiet MC1 is comparable to the Eluteng Nas uses in his video's.
@@dynamike549 ok I will think about it.
But overall I’m pretty satisfied with the be quiet.
Furthermore it’s not so hot in Germany during the summer.
Nevertheless I’m „hungry“ to test out the Elecgear or Sabrent haha 😀
@@dynamike549 what thermal pad size?
@@laloe1751 I used 1mm on the nand chips and 1.5mm on the controller. The controller was lower.
Keep in mind, my SSD is the Firecuda 530 4TB so yours may be different.
Also, I would say get the Gelid Extreme instead. They are softer and more pliable.
@@dynamike549 Im going this exact route. But with gonna get the 2tb Firecuda as I just dont have the funds for the 4tb. Ordered the Elecgear this morning. Now I am going to order the pads from Gelid like you mentioned.
Looking for some info... is it possible to put a fermal strip over the top of seagate firecuda 530 button heatsink then put the plate over that on the ps5 ?
Weird how the WD would get much hotter. Have you tried testing the WD with Sabrent's heatsink?
I believe I did in an earlier vid, yeah. The WD has always ran quite hot (try to find my Seagate Vs WD PC+PS5 Temp comparison video) as it was of the first SSD on the market to hit 7K at PCIe and since then, brands have achieved it (1+ years later and thanks to Phison) at a lower temp..m price of innovation I guess
Can you use Seagate and Elecgear together?
Where did you get that cover?
Can I get the same ps5 covers as you?
What about the 2tb seagate ssd or wd black 2 tb ssd
Where did you get that ps2 themed panel!
