I helped my nephew remove layers of old wallpaper in a house built in 1900 and saved some of those old pieces of wallpaper from way back when. There must have been 15 layers of wallpaper and I didn't get all I wanted, but it was exciting.

Just great! I am a mixed media artist and I didn't even think of all of your examples! So inspiring! I am in the middle of tearing up paper right now. I work on large paper but I am thinking of getting out a large roll of canvas I have...

Paper ripping is also one of my favorites. The rough edges and the amount of paper-color that's revealed is always a surprise. I've seen some really amazing landscapes that were completely done using this technique. These are all really good ideas to get into the mood of collage ! ! !

I love your ideas! I recently went crazy stamping circles on paper and making my own patterned papers. When the virus hit.I think I was picking up from the collective unconcious. My coworker started creating organic looking blobs that looked like microscopic bacteria shapes.Very strange. But I have used all if them and they look great!

I will do a studio tour! The only thing that is organized is what is on my work table when I film a video. My studio is filled with clutter. Drives me nuts but one day I will take some time off to organize. 🌸

Hallo Adele, I love your videos. Thank you for sharing some organizing tipps with us. The longer I am journaling, the more papers want to be stored, so that I can find those, that I need quite quickly. I think using trays is really a good idea!
Sometimes I glue the tiny snipets as they come on a big sheet of paper and turn it upside down to cut it up for tags etc. A wonderful way to give room for surprising combinations and give the minipeaces a new chance.

Maybe after I sort my cluttered n kinda messy house (head) and feel I’m at a point where I am emotionally and mentally ready to get into some art I’ll pull it all out n use. I have so many things just as you have, kept in my art / (currently fish breeding ) room. I’m gonna click that bell button so you can inspire and lift me to a better place so I’ll be keen to get started x Lisa

Thank you Adele! Your collage pieces inspire me to get out and discover my own! I had never considered older types of paper. My grandfather kept ledgers and old daily diaries about the weather. I think I may use some of those!

    • @AdeleSypesteynStudio

One of the beautiful things about collage is that you can create pieces that have a loved ones letters, journals, or even drawings. Way back when my children were young and I had piles of their paintings, I would tear pieces off and use those in my work. 🌸

Perfect timing as I'm still trying to rescue a painting from its ugly stage & have been thinking abt collage! Sewing pattern pcs are also fun to use - you can first stamp on them or paint them. When you glue them to the painting (gel medium under and over them) they almost disappear but leave a neat effect. I keep an eye on the books and papers at my local thrift stores for potential collage materials. I once scored an old piano roll! Happy creative Saturday, all 🎉😊

Great ideas! I'm obsessed with maps, especially antique maps. Library book sales are a good source of old books, because they sell people's donated books and old books they are weeding out from their shelves. I really hesitate to start with collage, due to the fact that EVERYTHING is a possible collage piece, so it can quickly overtake one's studio, especially my very small one. As you said, "It's endless!" Question: when you came to color swatches, did you paint those swatches yourself? Thanks so much!

Great idea. I totally forgot about maps. Thanks for mentioning. Yes indeed, library book sales give you so much of a great selection. I go to those too. 🌸

Hi there. I use paper palettes. They come in a pack and in white and grey. 🌸

What type of paper do you have to make collage?

  • @minnahumble2294

Is your pallet paper parchment? It must have a surface that makes it possible to tear off layers of paint.
What do you mean by color swatches?

It does not have to be acid free paper to then attach to canvas?

I have a question unrelated to this video. You once said you buy gallons and gallons of white paint. What brand do you buy?
It's ok if you dont have time to answer, but I will come back to check. Maybe you've already answered this in a video I haven't seen. While watching you work, I realized I need to use more white. Utrecht? Golden? Gesso? Something that comes in a bucket?

      @AdeleSypesteynStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Of course I will answer. I buy Golden titanium white in a gallon tub. It lasts me a long time and I can thin it out with water and/or acrylic medium to the fluidity that I want. 🌸
