Success !!! 2004 Toyota Sequoia vsc,track and engine lights on after a minor service. 3 clicks didn't work. Remove left terminal connection, cleaned everything up, waited about 10 minutes, reconnected and bingo! Lights out! Thank you VERY much. Saved a trip to the mechanic and a costly diagnostic appointment.

Cleaning the gas cap didn't clear those lights, but removing the negative battery and leaving off for 5mn worked for me and I didn't lose my radio settings.
Dude, it really worked. The TCS light disappeared when I switch my ignition to on position 3 times. My check engine light went away as well when I removed the negative post & let it sit about 5 mins. I thought it was going to cost me a lot if it wasn't for your video. Thanks men!!😊
I'm so glad you informed others including myself on not going straight to emissions to get a test because I just went and got my Gas pump assembly replaced and my engine light was still on so I came home and tuned in to your channel blog and took off the ground wire for 5 min and worked successfully now I will wait and drive for 2 weeks before going to emissions

The ignition 3x worked for me. Check engine light came on after I cleaned the throttle body and mass air flow sensor. Thought I broke something. This did the trick. Thank you.
I put diesel in my 4runner, it did not go far , i had to drain the tank and clean the pump and filter. Everything was fine until the next morning ,the check engine light came on , so i came across your video on how to turn off the check engine and track off by disconecting the negative terminal waited 3 minutes before starting, check light went out , thank you so much for shearing these tips 👍

these are great tips esp., on the gas caps maybe old & time to change them, however, if you have a pre- 1990-94 NO AUTO STORE will check this cause they don't have an OB1 READER,the OB2 is only for 1996-NEWER I have a 94 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme S 3.1lt & my check engine light comes on every so often, but none could find anything wrong
Glad to hear you warned about NOT going to Motor Vehicle inspection right after resetting the check engine light. Their computer system will know it and fail you. Saying this from experience.
I went to get the emissions done right after I reset the code. I drove the car for 5 minutes. No issues with passing. I have a 1998 Honda Accord. Been doing this for the while.

Thanks for the upload. Disconnected the negative battery terminal for three minutes and it worked. Replaced the EVAP purge valve on my 2019 Ram Bighorn for the codes it gave, but the check engine was still on after the repair. Your tips cleared it up. Thanks. 👍
Unfortunately in Canada, most places charge $140-190 just to plug their diagnostics tool in. Right now I need an 02 sensor replaced and I already know the issue from plugging in my friend’s obd code reader. I went to multiple repair shops and they all say they have to charge me first to plug in their own device even though I know what the problem is. The total cost to change 1 o2 sensor will be above $700
Sounds about right. Their “diagnostics fee” is their biggest money maker because they get $100+ for a 5 min diagnostic. You are really paying for their knowledge but it’s a bit much. Find a place they doesn’t charge the fee as long as you let them do the repair and you will know you have a good shop.
I had this light come took it to O'Reillys in glenwood IL. They scanned it turned out to be the thermostat i replaced it disconnected battery cable ,all is well thanks for sharing

@@TightWadDIY Does the computer ever throw codes by mistake? I got a code P0793, but the car runs fine and smooth. Didn't experience any problems with driving. I will try to erase the code, and hopefully the computer just made a mistake and the code won't come back.

Scorry Kilmer has highly recommended people do not short circuit the negative terminal directly to the positive one, but use any big 1 Amp resistor of 1K to make the short circuit trick.

Pls clarify that if so required , the negative terminal should be connected to the positive terminal only when both terminals have been removed from the battery.
Clean the gasket inside the gas cap & all around where it seats. Check the gasket for cracks. A paper towel & some WD40 works. Freezing weather may shrink the gasket. Maybe time for a new gas cap.
Better NOT use WD40 on most ANY rubber, it simply dries out the lubracating or natural oil compounds out of the rubber making it become brittle over some time. Best purchase some 303 lubricant spray it helps restore the natural compounds in Rubber therefore making the rubber components last a long time!!
How to turn off the check engine light: Disconnect the cable to the NEGATIVE terminal of the battery ONLY. Then turn on the car's headlights and honk the horn 4-5 times to bleed off any residual energy. Wait 1 minute, then reconnect the cable. The light should be off. If the light comes back on after driving the car for a total of 20 miles, go to an auto parts store and have them read the error codes for free. NEVER ignore or turn off a FLASHING check engine light--that's very serious and needs immediate diagnosis and repair. (I used this method with my 2000 Lexus GS300 after the check engine light came on after an air filter change--the light did not come back on during subsequent trips.)
That is not a fix .that light will be back on before long. I have been doing that do months on mine and it will always come back on. Sometime before I even leave the drive way. Sometime longer, but it won't say off I guarantee u that much. K
@@billwagoner5423 This video actually discussed the possible source of the light coming on. Fix your gas cap seal and turn off the light. If it comes back on, there is a different issue. It’s definitely a fix if your gas cap was the issue…right?

I bought a used 2011 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ sedan and at the time my mechanic wasn’t around so I trusted the guy well after getting it home my mechanic came to check out the car because the water pump broke and he said the guy who sold me the car turned off the check engine light because he knew the timing chain was going out on the car . well the check engine light can mean many things, and being on is not a catastrophe, however if the thing starts flashing you better get it off the road immediately, or so my mechanic son tells me.
If you unhook the battery or clear the trouble codes with the scan tool will you reset all the monitors too? If so,you need to put the vehicle through a system of drive functions and the vehicle will fail without the monitors set even with the check engine light OFF.
I see your vsc and vtrac lights were on too. I have that issue with the check engine light also. How did you fix those? That was more than just disconnecting the battery, wasn't it?
This proceedure usually will not fix the problem. its best to use a obd code checker to find out what the real problem is and fix your peoblem from there.
2004 lexus es330 removed battery check engine light went off. Drove 5 miles light came back on. What should I do need to get inspected...and have taken it twice to repair shop ($400) and within a couple days light comes right back on!
First…Find a new repair shop. I would take it to an auto parts store to have my codes pulled. This is only meant to turn off the light after you fix something or tighten the gas cap.
Just to clarify: turning off the light doesn’t fix the problem. If you didn’t change anything it will likely come back on and you will need to go have your codes pulled.

I guess it depends on area, but the auto parts store, I work at, we are explicitly told to never clear the codes for customers. They even send secret shoppers to make sure and it is firable offense.
The "check engine" light has been coming on and remaining on at random in my 2005 3 Litre turbo Toyota SUV for many years. It goes into "limp home" mode then. Dangerous on the highway. I took it to a dealer here in Thailand, who replaced the injectors, to no effect. I discovered that if I turn off the engine for 2-5 minutes and restart, I can continue on.

I bought a cheapo Chinese OBD code reader which seems to work. As long as the car runs OK, I prefer my wife's solution: Stick a piece of black electrical tape over the "CHECK ENGINE" light. Problem solved without breaking the bank!!

2000Jeep Cherokee Sport. We replaced the downstream Oxygen Sensor and the Neutral/Park Safety Switch Sensor. That cleared two codes. We still have a nonflashing check engine light orange. We cleaned sludge out of transmission pan and put in new filter, gasket, and fluid. It drives good. But we still have P0705 Transmission Range Sensor. Went to Auto parts store and they couldn’t clear it. We don’t know what to do. Please help.
I have a 2011 cruze lt. I want to ask something regarding the gas cap. In my car, the gas cap is with key but i didn't get the key from where i purchased my used cruze. So the gas cap is without key and it doesn't lock there properly, click sound comes, but it still remains loose, even with click sound i can just lift off the gas cap it will open, it never tights. Maybe because i don't have its key?? Also in my car, engine check light is appearing, it's not blinking though. I think that due to this gas cap, the engine check light is appearing maybe. Also my car is burning a lot of fuel, the crazy thing is when i leave car at park in the night and again go back in the morning the fuel shows 1-2 needle less on the meter as compared to when i checked at night. Yes! Go to the auto parts place and have them pull your codes for free. Take the codes and Google them to find out what they mean.

If there's an issue the light will come back on after resetting usually within 20 miles or so and it will keep coming on until issue is resolved

That doesn’t mean the issue is fixed. I just means you turned off the warning. If it comes back on, you still need to have your codes pulled.

Now they let you do it yourself with simple to follow instructions on the code scanner, and then you get a free printout inside if you want.

How to turn off the check engine light: Disconnect the cable to the NEGATIVE terminal of the battery ONLY. Then turn on the car's headlights and honk the horn 4-5 times to bleed off any residual energy. Wait 1 minute, then reconnect the cable. The light should be off. If the light comes back on after driving the car for a total of 20 miles, go to an auto parts store and have them read the error codes for free. NEVER ignore or turn off a FLASHING check engine light--that's very serious and needs immediate diagnosis and repair. (I used this method with my 2000 Lexus GS300 after the check engine light came on after an air filter change--the light did not come back on during subsequent trips.)

That is not a fix .that light will be back on before long. I have been doing that do months on mine and it will always come back on. Sometime before I even leave the drive way. Sometime longer, but it won't say off I guarantee u that much.

@@billwagoner5423 This video actually discussed the possible source of the light coming on. Fix your gas cap seal and turn off the light. If it comes back on, there is a different issue. It’s definitely a fix if your gas cap was the issue…right?

I bought a used 2011 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ sedan and at the time my mechanic wasn’t around so I trusted the guy well after getting it home my mechanic came to check out the car because the water pump broke and he said the guy who sold me the car turned off the check engine light because he knew the timing chain was going out on the car . well the check engine light can mean many things, and being on is not a catastrophe, however if the thing starts flashing you better get it off the road immediately, or so my mechanic son tells me.

I suggest going to an auto parts store and ask them to pull your codes. It’s usually done for free.

If you unhook the battery or clear the trouble codes with the scan tool will you reset all the monitors too? If so,you need to put the vehicle through a system of drive functions and the vehicle will fail without the monitors set even with the check engine light OFF.

I see your vsc and vtrac lights were on too. I have that issue with the check engine light also. How did you fix those? That was more than just disconnecting the battery, wasn't it?
This proceedure usually will not fix the problem. its best to use a obd code checker to find out what the real problem is and fix your peoblem from there.

2004 lexus es330 removed battery check engine light went off. Drove 5 miles light came back on. What should I do need to get inspected...and have taken it twice to repair shop ($400) and within a couple days light comes right back on!
First…Find a new repair shop. I would take it to an auto parts store to have my codes pulled. This is only meant to turn off the light after you fix something or tighten the gas cap.
This only resets the computer. if an issue is causing the light, it will come back on within a certain amount of miles or time.

Just to clarify: turning off the light doesn’t fix the problem. If you didn’t change anything it will likely come back on and you will need to go have your codes pulled.

I guess it depends on area, but the auto parts store, I work at, we are explicitly told to never clear the codes for customers. They even send secret shoppers to make sure and it is firable offense.
Im not recommending they clear the codes. You can just have them tell you what codes are causing the light to come on.
The "check engine" light has been coming on and remaining on at random in my 2005 3 Litre turbo Toyota SUV for many years. It goes into "limp home" mode then. Dangerous on the highway.
I took it to a dealer here in Thailand, who replaced the injectors, to no effect. I discovered that if I turn off the engine for 2-5 minutes and restart, I can continue on.
Thank you for the information question what causes the stability track light to turn on and service engine on although got vehicle serviced after repairs to heads and addition repairs the check engine light went on a week later and hasn't turned off know my vehicle starts but stays on for a few minutes and shuts off. Thank you. Veh is a 2015 Chevy Cruz.

I bought a cheapo Chinese OBD code reader which seems to work. As long as the car runs OK, I prefer my wife's solution: Stick a piece of black electrical tape over the "CHECK ENGINE" light. Problem solved without breaking the bank!!

2000Jeep Cherokee Sport.
We replaced the downstream Oxygen Sensor and the Neutral/Park Safety Switch Sensor. That cleared two codes.
We still have a nonflashing check engine light orange.
We cleaned sludge out of transmission pan and put in new filter, gasket, and fluid.
It drives good. But we still have P0705 Transmission Range Sensor. Went to Auto parts store and they couldn’t clear it.
We don’t know what to do. Please help.

I have a 2011 cruze lt. I want to ask something regarding the gas cap. In my car, the gas cap is with key but i didn't get the key from where i purchased my used cruze. So the gas cap is without key and it doesn't lock there properly, click sound comes, but it still remains loose, even with click sound i can just lift off the gas cap it will open, it never tights. Maybe because i don't have its key?? Also in my car, engine check light is appearing, it's not blinking though. I think that due to this gas cap, the engine check light is appearing maybe. Also my car is burning a lot of fuel, the crazy thing is when i leave car at park in the night and again go back in the morning the fuel shows 1-2 needle less on the meter as compared to when i checked at night.

I would order a new gas cap. Your fuel could be evaporating.
