He was accepted by every industry, he just almost failed in every industry and learned to reinvent himself. Which is equally as impressive as just sheer determination. The ability to identify what isn't working and focus on your strengths

My friends and I ran into him at Disney years ago, he was already a major star at the time. My friends wife was pregnant and he nearly walked right into her outside of the bathrooms, he apologized, noticed she was pregnant and asked how far along she was, then he told her congrats and moved on, super nice guy.

I think the fear of the instability he had during his childhood is what drives him, not necessarily ego. When you grow up in poverty, moving from place to place, like so many do, you'll do whatever it takes to survive. I think he's honestly just concerned about returning to nothing, and now he also has the burden of a production company which means he's worried about keeping the money rolling in. Despite Black Adam being an absolute trash heap, I hope he continues to find success. My earliest and fondest memories of him were in the ring, it's nice to see him still getting work (and creating work, essentially).

I’m not a fan of his movies but I met him when I was a kid. My grandma was a mall walker. There was a gym located inside the mall. I saw The Rock and walked right up to him like he was my friend. He was extremely kind and probably happy when my grandma knocked on the glass to tell me to leave lol 😂

WWE be petty. Sort of. Pat used WrestleMania footage i believe. That's bread & butter right there. WWE have been able to prove mere seconds are substantial content to warrant such strikes.
As an insider in pro wrestling I'm torn becuase i understand how in theory at least it can take away WWE's money stream but usually there aren't many ways they can BUT THEN AGAIN *WWE STUDIOS* PROSUCES TONS OF DOCUMENTARIES LIKE PATRICKS (LONG BEFORE HE WAS BORN EVEN) so yeah.
WWE strikes aren't normally on so much BS like say...UMG...they just do a lot of them because, for example: some WrestleMania matches are SECONDS. Which can be sold individually or apart of collections seperate from the WrestleMania event. That's their little excuse summed up, usually.

I was 11 when The Rock’s run began. That was an amazing few years of wrestling. Prime Rock, Stone Cold, Undertaker/Kane, Mankind, China, Shawn Michaels, nWo, Hollywood Hogan, Wolf Pac, could go on. It was wild.

The Rock’s time in the WWF/WWE is the most instrumental influence on his acting career. His job for over a decade in the WWE was to entertain the same audience of millions with the same character and catchphrases. By doing this, he realized that audiences respond the most to products that are consistent and familiar. This idea has undoubtedly translated to his acting career for better and for worse.
I know The Rock has a good business plan to basically have a movie prepared for him as soon as he's done with the previous film, but he should try to challenge himself a little with some better roles. That would be so strange to see The Rock in an A24 film like Beau is Afraid but I'd see it.
It would be somewhat good for him. He would see him in a better light and wouldn’t experience actor image burnout.

And I'm not going to sit here and tell you every product was a smash hit, but beating on his craft made it so directors wanted him to kick off their vision
Dwayne's success seems to stem from having the commune strong. Ergo he won't take a role unless it pads him for the brand
With that approach he can't be like Vin Diesel, a guy who goes from A man apart, to XXX, to the Pacifier. One out of three can he actually eat off of, but dammit if those films aren't memorable. Which is not bad for a dude you can hardly understand

The video overstates the difficulty Rock had with his movie career. Making $5.5 million on his first film, and being the lead in four straight family films earning over $100 million each, is not exactly struggling. He just wanted to be at the tippy top of Hollywood, that's the only context where calling his journey a 'struggle' makes sense.

I think the reason The Rock is in so profitable isn't because the movies are necessarily good, it's because you know what you're getting every time, it usually won't disappoint you, definitely won't blow you away, it just does the trick when you want to watch a movie.
Edit: I also think one of the main reasons he wants to call the shots on set and has his beef with Tyrese and Vin Diesel is because of his steroid use (he always denies this claim but anyone with a brain knows you dont put muscle mass on the way he *still* does at his age.
If he uses steroids, it’s not their business though, unless they genuinely care about his health.

It's touched on in this story, that even the biggest stars don't have a steady income despite making the company millions, but I've read that wrestlers often get no healthcare support in retirement even though they basically broke their bodies for this ungrateful exploitative company. I’ll admit legacies have it a lot easier than a completely unknown wrestler, but Dwayne still had to put in the work and prove himself.
He didn't have it the hardest or the easiest. His wrestling legacy was a lucky break, but Hollywood doesn't take wrestlers seriously. It's harder for them regardless of how popular they are. It's a cultural thing.

It's a shame 'The Rundown' was a flop. In the UK it's called 'Welcome to the Jungle' and in my opinion it's one of the best films The Rock has acted in.

Much respect to Dwyane Johnson. Even if there have been some ego issues here and there, we're not all perfect and will sometimes mess up. I'm all for him taking control of his career, because why not? It was also really smart of him to create his own production company to write movies for him. I haven't seen too many of his movies, so I'm not a massive fan or anything, but I like how he seems as a person, and respect the hard work he has put in to get where he is. I hope for his sake and his family's sake that he does take time out to spend with them and isn't just always on location filming. He knows what it's like to not have his dad around much because of work.

I think it was SUPER smart of him to decide on the roles he wanted to play, aiming for a promise for his audience, that they would know what they'd get and enjoy it. A lot of actors are dedicated to the craft, but not necessarily developing that close relationship with an audience. Like a lot of times, if actors become known for one thing, they have to try to "break out" and play something extremely different so they don't get "stuck," while many audiences really don't have that feeling towards actors and just want to enjoy actors play characters they know they'll get invested in. It's why people would go see a "Tom Hanks" movie or a "Will Smith" movie for so long. They knew what they'd get, and that's what they wanted to see. It's really smart to look at things from the viewers' POV like that. Most movie watchers just want a little break from their lives, they aren't all in it for the experimental, or dark, or artistic stuff. They just want some fun.
Problem is, Black adam require he should break that mold and go a little darker because black adam is well...a darker chararter. In a way he break his own rule.

I had Mr. Cwik as a Social Studies teacher in middle school back in the early 00s. East Hills is the middle school literally right next door to Freedom High School, which is why he taught at both schools. He would ALWAYS talk about The Rock. Unfortunately, he died maybe 15 years ago or so. Definitely one of my favorite teachers back then.

He did come from a wrestling family. In showbiz he was something like minor nobility. Things didn’t immediately work out for him but he did have the social capital to try again. Most people only get one shot.

Damn man so many amazing memories ..the 90s was the greatest Decade ever to be a kid and the WWF is one of the reasons why..my uncle got me into wrestling(both real and scripted) and I used to love watching it with him in the 90s and playing all the great games..92-2001 is the golden age of wwF(it'll always be wwF for me,i still call it that to this day) for me and while Undertaker has my number 1 spot..the Rock is either second or no lower than 3rd..it's a trip seeing how far he's come but no matter what he does I always love it.. he's one of the greats in pretty much anything he takes part in and I'm hoping for The Rock 2028..thanx for the video bruh as always effortlessly dope

Bold of you to explain that the Rock was born into wrestling, being part of the Samoans AND Rocky Johnson's son, and how his name carried him through wrestling education and jobbing at a much faster pace than a no-name wrestler, and then say he built his empire from the ground up, from nothing.
Fair but he did take it and ran with it. Many wrestlers have tried to make the transition into Hollywood and failed.
Another thing, why *didn't* Johnson's Samoan cousins go for more if they had a nepotism ties to wrestling? Why didn't they make the transition? They were already in, why didn't they do it?

I had the exact same thought but then I remembered that he also mentions that once his father’s hours and income dramatically decreased, his family started struggling financially and they lost their home at one point.
So technically you and Pat are both right. He did start from the bottom 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺, but he also benefited from the reputation and influence of his father and the well established legacy of his wrestling family.

Dwayne is the DREAM actor to work with . The crew can easily work 80+ hrs in a week, nothing makes that time drag worse than a diva on set. Especially in my position (start as the lowest paid, end up being highest paid) it just makes a hard job that much easier with people like him around. Kerry Washington is really nice as well, she is even nice to the background actors when a lot of the crew gives them shit. Love that you highlighted that.
