I bring this drum machine with me to club gigs i sequence it through midi to my decks and have it create interesting remixes, best part is it’s the cheapest best sounding thing I own.
When I acquired mine earlier this year, I was debating whether or not to go the Roland route, but the DrumBrute Impact has a unique sonic character and usability to it that is brilliant for Techno. The knobs are easy to use, the control layout is intuitive and it doesn't require multiple steps to change things. It is very performance friendly and is intuitive to use in a changing environment. This is likely the biggest advantage to the DrumBrute Impact - it can be played live, with the creation and modification of patterns done in realtime without menu-diving (no menus) or the secret handshakes required to build and manipulate them. The knobs feel good, and the entire unit is designed for tactile control and manipulation of the sound. One other thing of note is that the "Color" version of all the pads (sounds) are mapped through MIDI so a total of 19 sounds are available at once and patterns can be created using both color and non-color versions of the pads. (The cowbell is the only sound that does not change with color). And the pads are pressure sensitive with most providing alternative sounds depending on velocity.
This machine is described as being simple but it's deceptively complex. Because it is analog, everything you do effects the sound of each channel. Especially your volume adjustments on both the channel and at the main output. Think guitar amp. You run the kick at max volume and it's going to get distorted. You run the Master volume all the way up and you get more distortion. It is very easy to get interesting sounds by playing this this concept and using the Color option with the distortion circuit. I have seen many people say it's not a good sounding drum machine but in my opinion, that is simply not true. it's just not a 909 or 808 clone that some people want it to be. It's something completely different. That said, I really wish that there were cv controls for the filter knobs, tuning, and distortion. That would be insane. You could do so much with it.

I love this drum machine and it's so stupid cheap. It sounds so much better than the original Drum Brute. I don't know why I keep that one around. Probably because it's also stupid cheap but looks great so I might as well keep it around for a few more sounds and the filter is really nice.
Drumbrute has its moments and honestly it has the best shakers. I find a lot of people fail to use drum voices to create some layered kicks, snares, and claps.
Ive used it on a new track for our album in October and it works really well. I created a bjork, the hunter homage in the track and easily got the 909 vibes. Then the track goes into full on arps and warp records dance territory but with live playing over the top and vocals. Think clark,bjork, sigur ros, holy f*** 🤣 Its a beast, used the overdrive too ar around 11 o clock and adds some nice saturation that cuts through.
Only downside I'd say is the the kicks pitch, you can't go too highl with it, a clicky kick etc I had a crack at Princes sign of the times, he used a linndrum and the kicks pitch can't get anywhere near really. A second kick channel would have been great, maybe I could do that with the FM! There's an idea, be right back 🙉
I had one for a year before buying an Elecktron RYTHM. A year later, I've sold the RYTHM and just love using the Impact... especially through various FX units, such as Gamechanger Lightpedal Reverb, Benidub Delay
It has a particular sound like like a model cycles 🔁 but I love the workflow and knob per function also like the black version better also has great performance features
For the price this thing is a lot of fun, but I personally found the sounds it makes get stale fairly quickly. Granted you have the individual outs to run it through various fx pedals and if you've already got them go for it, but if you don't the biggest selling factor *the price* begins to lose weight. I'm sure plenty of people who want a clean sounding drum machine will be quite happy with this. If you want to smash the floors down with distortion and heavy tone I'd maybe look elsewhere. Great demo!
Seems like a combination of my fully expanded TR8 and BeatStep Pro. Which, is actually a good thing. Sequencing the TR8 with the BSP means you lose some of the features of the TR8 and conversely, the TR8 doesn't have some of the sequencing features the BSP has.
The random parameter seems great. Can you use the MIDI out to use this sequencer and play some other drum machine (assuming you can map the incoming notes as you wish on the receiving end)?
yes, you can customize the midi notes being sent inside arturias midi control center software. I use my DBrute Impact for live gigs to trigger Sugarbytes Drumcomputer on an iPad this way ;)
After watching a lot of Korg Drumlogue demos I am just shocked. The analog part of Drumlogue, which is created by a "legendary" Korg senior engineer, sounds like toy compared to this. People chasing after new things should really learn to appreciate stuff that came out years ago.
@@midichlorian73 It's on a couple tracks on this upcoming collaboration album with members / collaborators of Those Poor Bastards, The Residents, eX-Girl, Renaldo & The Loaf, Sons Of Perdition, and Zebras. Haha! But if you're a drummer that wants to program beats in real time, this is a must. A lot of drum machines don't have metronomes, so one has to start off in step mode and then continue manually after that. Total vibe killer sometimes. Thanks for your comment.
I bought the DBI recently and I'm really not impressed. In fact, I'm already selling it back... I so much more enjoy the endless possibilities and flexibility of a sampler over the very limited sounds of that drum machine that are quickly becoming old and boring so bye bye DBI.
I run an Octatrack as my sampler and being limited to 8 tracks I like the idea of being able to mess around with 9 extra tracks of beats and percussion ontop of that.
Someone already called it, the youtube drum machine. So many reviews on it, yet havn't seen so many people using it in their studio or live. Guess its no doubt a capable drum machine. But it's core sound is... just ok. Nothing more.

If you can make the girls dance to it, then it is an instant classic.
Run the Impact through a fuzz pedal. You won't be disappointed.

My first drum machine, used plugins before and its good. Easy to use and sounds great in the daw....prefer it to software feels nattural.

I bought one last week, planning to connect soon to a tc electronic spark boost pedal and behringer cs 400 compressor pedal.
Time to get crazy with the pedals! Multiple outputs are also going to expand the Impact's palette.

I loved the sequencer and layout but I couldn't find the sweet spot for the kick. The sequencer is pretty sick though.
If you're looking for extra sculpting for kick drums (all kinds) try SPL's 'Transient Designer' and Little Lab's 'Voice Of God'.

I thought that too but now I have a thing for sampling my own drums instead of using other samples, this thing will do the trick

That's 95% of music gear these days - sold to hobbyists messing around and making loops after work (and I include myself in that number...).
It's a matter of taste but personally can't stand the sound of this drum machine.
