Thanks for that little hack on the hats! Never really thought of that before, but it's easy to overlook since I have it for only a week now.
I do like to point out that the Drumbrute is a fantastic drummachine with a very flexible sound engine and that only very few videos on TH-cam did its sound justice. People call the sounds weak, but they really are not! TH-cam compression muffles the raw sound a lot and I find that a lot of videos tweak the sounds way too fast and too extreme. That way you never hear its sweet spots!
Besides that, the thing has outs, so you can easily fatten up the sounds! It's almost like people have forgotten that our trusty 808s and 909s were heavily post-processed to make its sound really stand out in the songs we love.
This machine will be a future classic, if not for its sound it would be for its sequencer! I know that my Drumbrute will be in my studio for years to come! :)

It's really great when someone really gets to grips with a piece of kit and is prepared to share what makes it musical for them. See a drummer at work, we can all appreciate the nuance of their playing but a drum machine or a groove box?
That moment; 2' 03"; when you-almost absent mindedly-played in those few notes and this magical little swung latin thing suddenly emerged, it was a lightbulb moment for me. I'm the world's worst finger drummer, so ...cool, I need to get into that. Thank you, Enrique!

Swapping the open/closed hats is a great tip. I also prefer having the open hat on top.
Another important unmarked shift feature is shift + step 9 to switch between looper and roller mode on the touch strip. When it's in roller mode, you touch the strip and press one (or more) of the drum pads and it will roll them.

Yes Ricky. Good format, right video and 3 solid points that everyone misses out.
I certainly didn't realise you could multi select hits for the timing shift, well useful. And the hat swap trick is an obvious notion but important to give people permission to do so.
I should add to anyone liking for better info on the dB one other point everyone misses out on...
If you want to be at 90bpm and apply swing like 90bpm hip hop but run a dnb beat... Hold shift +5 to run the sequence at 32_notes
.. Also in this scenario you've got more notes to play with quantise off you can afford to play in triplets!! (where as at 180bpm only 16 notes are stored)

That third tip is the kind of tip i appreciate the most. I love learning genre specific style tips, but with the gear i have. I tend to let limitations mold my music too often and just let other gear take over the hats and kick.
That's silly though, because i actually love the drumbrutes hats, toms, and maraccas. Wouldn't mind hearing a track utilizing the toms more. Thats the kind of stuff that inspires me. Seeing and hearing how other people use instruments i tend to shy away from.

For some reason the kick drum never sounds very good to me on the demos I've seen. It could be due to youtube audio compression or something. I've been having a hard time lately creating drums in Ableton and I think I need a more hands-on method utilizing something similar to this Drumbrute. I think I'd prefer this version of Drumbrute to the new impact version because of more drum variety plus I'm pretty sure I'll not be needing a cowbell. Any advice greatly appreciated.

How do you time-shift the notes that you create in unquantized mode, when these notes do not appear on the step grid, even when using the finest resolution available?

Hey, I like to ask a question on your opinion if that's cool? I'm in the market to get a drum machine. And I'm really looking at the drumbrute, the drumbrute impact, or the Behringer 808 clone. I love that the regular drumbrute has two different kicks and two toms, but I really like the snare Of the "impact" and the fact that it has distortion on it. I do more kind of harder industrial stuff. I like to ask what do you think? Thank you!🙏✌

    • @MatthewHyatt

Distortion is nice on the Impact. You can always run it through a pedal too. Of all three (which I own) the Impact is my favorite. The kick really hits hard.

In a real drum set, you can't play the hi hat opened and closed at the same time, the closed hi hat sound stops when you open it and vice versa, the drumbrute hi hat behaves as a real drumkit, I love you trick to avoid this! thanks!
