Yeah but...technically that's the same slogan wotc is using for their compulsory party where everyone's invited and must shower the host in money or get lost. The "don't split" wording for an action to rally behind is counter intuitive when there's a lot of people who should be encouraged to split away from wotc.
WoTC: We are altering the deal. Pray we do not alter it any further.

jokes aside this isnt advocating for a new system, although Kobold announced they are working on that. This is about establishing an open license for publishers that align with that. The expectation is many systems, one universal license....forever. AkA Linux of TTRPG.

I've bought, played and followed all D&D Editions... I cannot express how HAPPY I am, that a 4th Edition debacle, seems to have been avoided.

Paizo remembered 4thE and the OSL. Pathfinder 2nd Edition deliberately stepped away from D&D. They were always getting ready just in case, and now it's paid off.

Paizo just sold me and my group a Pathfinder 2E core rulebook. I wasn't going to make the jump from 1E to 2E until now, but I believe a message needs to be sent.
i prefer pf 1e over 2e and i still might just buy the 2e core rulebook to give a better company than wotc my money
I bought the core book (and pocket book for a friend). I was using the free 1e with my friends for our current campaign, but next one I’ll suggest 2e and run it myself.
I was going to buy the core rule book but am getting a 503 error . Anyone know what’s up?

Even if WotC does a 180 and promises not to change anything, consumers need to jump to ORC and it’s supporting companies and drop D&D for a while to send a message. Any good thing WotC does at this point is done out of fear of losing money alone.
They'll pass the buck.
I think the only way back for wizards is to adobt the ORC licence.
I agree even if WotC doesn't change the ogl they've proven that they want to. They have killed all trust in the community and they should jump ship or risk a repeat.

Because of this I went to their website (while dealing with the 504 timing out on the gateway by the way) and purchased a good bit of their stuff. I am just waiting for their company to raise higher and higher as WOTC and Hasbro goes lower and lower.
Same. Bought core and advanced (along with a pocket book for a friend). $180 that Paizo just earned.
Because of this, I'm going to check out Pathfinder 2.0 and seriously consider getting the core book. I'm just dipping a toe into DMing, that's a lot! If I'm converted, I'll try to convert the 8 new players I was starting to introduce D&D to.
Guys, don't forget to buy some adventure modules to your PF2e on the 3rd party supporters too : )

I don't even like PF2e (I do like starfinder tho), but I'll give PF2e a chance just because of this. I was on the fence about it since I'm tired of crunch, math, and rules minutia, but actually reading their words moved me.
I started playing it last week. Its actually very similar to dnd 5e, Same Stats etc. Only difference is:
Characters have more feats.
Proficency is different for each class (fighter have Weapon "Expertise" from level 1)
No - Movement/ Bonus/ Normal action, instead everybody has 3 Actions that you can use for what ever you want.
While it takes a bit more in creating a character, the gameplay is the same. So all you need is a DM that can recommend you choices to build your character, but then you can play.
The problem with Paizo is, just like WOTC, the company has been woke for years. Whatever credit they've earned from this, that side of them is still an issue.

1: Disney/Amazon version where woke is everything, and the story is non existent.
2: Paizo you got a romance between 2 female NPCs, that might die during the first 5 Sessions of the adventure, that are both irrelevant to the story.
I mean , debating woke/politics ... you can do that for hours, i wont ,i just want well written moduls, and the ones i have read so far from paizo are.

I suppose this means the first shots have been fired, metaphorically speaking. It's been a long time coming, and it looks like it took Hasbro's failure to recognize their second chance after DnD 4e for what it was, to tip the scales and provoke the gaming community as a whole to unite in this. TTRPG is one of the last major corporate frontiers, and the community aims to keep it this way. We LIKE when a small group fails to maintain control over content, and all minds are allowed to contribute, and it looks like our community as a whole is ready and willing to fight.
I still use elements of ALL D&D editions and have since the 1980's {D& done DOA}

Thank you Paizo for facilitating this, and to 'Roll for Combat' (and all the others), for the eloquent and clear highlighting of the avoidable mess that the old company made of their own brand. One would guess that some very intersting and active discussions will be being held with the hallowed halls at 'Hadbro'. As (only) the British would say, Cooks & Thomas appear to have taken a somewhat 'courageous' OGL decision.

But the guys in charge have negative intelligence modifiers, hence the final result was below 0.
Good thing it wasn't a charisma based roll, in that case the result would have physically imploded WotC with just one roll.
This was THE best move Paizo could've done. In one announcement they've basically kneecapped Hasbro's monopoly on the TTRPG stage.

Honestly we all would expect Paizo to capitalize on this opportunity in someway, but HOLY!!!!
I was saying this on forums and people were deleting it. But not Paizo specific. Someone was going to see this opportunity and exploit it.
I get the feeling Brian as a member of Azora Law proposed it to Paizo (and likely other local publishers like Green Ronin and Kobold Press) which probably got the word out and they waited for the OGL 1.1 announcement to come and then just said "F it, we'll do it live" and announced the creation of the ORC.

As a player of DND for years (since 2nd and 3rd edition) and a DM, I want to say to Paizo a huge thank you. I may not be a content creator but I have huge respect for all the magnificent content creators outthere, that their work is AWESOME.
WoTC/Hasbro probably thought they were such a large player in the industry that when they made their play everyone would fall into line for fear of their lawyers and no one could do anything about it. Well, the little guys have spoken and are fighting back. Also, word has it that a lot of people are canceling their D&D Beyond subscriptions. Everyone hopes WoTC will wake up and see reason but who knows. I will say they have definitely read the room wrong.

I dont know about you. But i have trust issues.
Even if wotc decide to backtrack all my faith in them is gone and i will never support them again.
Any backtracking they would do is not because they care, or that they were wrong or were actually listening. It would be because they are losing money otherwise it would never have gotten to this point.

You are correct, cancelling DDB is a movement on Reddit. A WotC employee leaked their management's disdain for the players and said they look carefully at DDB subs as an indicator. Which became quite the bullseye at this time. I regret that I didn't have a subscription to offer to that fire, myself.

Yep 👍 it was a pain to order with the 504s but still bought 3 books.
To be fair, their site crashed a lot before that. But the most recent reason is definitely because of all the eyes.
This gets even funnier after you hear what WotC did in the meantime:
D&D Beyond went down as well... a couple of hours later it was back and the option to unsubscribe was hidden (not gone, just a lot less convenient to find).
Peizo is suffering from success, and WotC from self inflicted critical hits.
I tried to enter in it last night I couldn't. But I don't simpatize with woke Paizão either.

Wizards is the big dog that thinks he scares everyone with its vicious growls and its scary barking and chase efforts. Paizo just proved itself to be the cat who quickly slaps the dog back into reality when he gets too near to her, even going so far as to defend the kittens when they aren't even hers by giving that Wizards dog a good scratch or two. Wizards, remember, Paizo does have claws . . .
Add the fans and players to that together we can cast a very large shadow and slash that wallet.

I am about to play my first ever 5e campaign in a week and now I kinda just wanna buy the pathfinder book to just learn the rules. I know they have some video games and I kinda wanna buy those too.
Pathfinder: Kingmaker is pretty much the quintessential pathfinder video game. You'll learn a lot about Pathfinder's rules through the video game before ever touching the TTRPG.
Be warned that Pathfinder 2 is a much more mechanically deep game than 5e, and it's not recommended as a starting point for someone who's never done a game that relies upon keywording. That complexity and Critical Role are the two reasons why 5e has (up until now) been so much more successful than Pathfinder 2.
@@alexjgilpin the complexity is not that bad if you never played 5e before, mostly it's just people don't want to try something new since they 're used to 5e.

@@alexjgilpin 2e isn't a complex system when compared to all the systems out there, it's actually a fairly streamlined system. It's just a touch more rules than 5e, which itself is a touch more rules than a rules-lite narrative game.
On the flip side, something comes up, and instead of GM having to wing it, there are actually rules for things. Game balance is considerably easier. Ie, it's easier to GM, especially because the adventure paths are high quality.

I played 5e and went back to BX. Now is the time to pull my dusty pathfinder 2e rulebook from the shelf and actually learn how to play. I was going to stick to OSR but if they are good enough to create ORC they have my support.
I gotta say, the drop of OGL 1.1 was real infinity wars vibes... Paizo coming in hot with ORC feels like endgame... And the community warping in has their backs.

Hence publishers need to convince us to buy more, not the other way around.

Paizo, in the final day before Friday the 13th, did the impossible with their public announcement. They asked:

It seems like the more I learn about Paizo, the more I like and respect them. Pretty much the only way they could improve in my eyes would be to become a full-on workers' co-op.

I played Pathfinder when it first came out. Best gaming I've done.
Pathfinder 1 is the most fun edition I have ever played. I consider Pathfinder 2 to be 4e all over again, but I gladly await the birth of Pathfinder 3.

I just orderd my core rule book for PF2e today. I am wrapping up my 5e game in the next 6 months and plan to make the switch and never go back.
