Creating a Playable Kraken Species for D&D and Pathfinder!

- Come watch us design a playable Kraken ancestry! Have you ever wondered what it's like to design a new playable ancestry or species? In honor of the first ever Kraken Week, game designers Mark Seifter and Linda Zayas-Palmer filmed the first stages of brainstorming and designing for a new Kraken ancestry. The plan is to write it out, order art, and release the ancestry in time for next year's Kraken Week, and then we'll post a follow-up video showing you some of the results and how they evolved and shifted from what you see in this video!

The concept of different types of playable kraken sounds fun. I could imagine a storm kraken or Ruby Gillman becoming a giant monster.
I think some kraken lore is that they were created by gods to fight in deity level wars. It would be cool seeing what flavors of kraken you get by combining aquatic themes with each of the gods. For instance, what kind of kraken would the Matron of Ravens make? What kind of kraken would the Dawn Father make? etc...

I love the ArcaneMark TH-cam channel. Though you are equally important! Hope you get the spotlight more often on this channel as well and remember to plug your own stuff.
Also, some squid have really big eyes, so first level feat giving you all round vision, and possibly upgrading later so you can't be flanked.

The vampire squid can produce flashes of light to disorient its prey. That could make for a neat ability. There could also be a nautilus kraken with a shell.

Oh yeah, for sure! I just finished that game a couple of months ago. I played co-op with my little brother over the course of more than a year. The inevitable result of getting a pair of completionists together in a game like that, haha.
Given how mythic and extremely long lived Kraken are, much like dragons, you could go in a direction similar to the Lux Aeterna from your playable dragons.
An ink Kraken, the can use produce ink for concealment or to blind / dazzle enemies similar to a breath weapon?
At the base levels, I would look at the pirates of the Caribbean movie character Davy Jones. He would be good for the intro levels and can be moded as one gains levels.
Stupid idea I just had: for the more destructive kraken to even be able to access its destructive tendencys someone (party or otherwise) must yell 'Release the Kraken' as like a trigger phrase.
I imagine that idea would go well with a Barbarian, it starts its rage when someone yells out the trigger phrase.
