I have watched each Cantata on separate days since Christmas day this year. The evangelist has sung all of his recitatives and his arias from memory - truly amazing. All of these musicians are true artists - so cool! The music has been sublime.
The eternal spirit of J. S. Bach smiles in spirit each time this performance is played, such absolute artistry and fidelity to the immense difficulty and awesome majesty of this music. Timeless.
I'm not a musician, nor do I know much about classical music, but I DO LOVE MUSIC. Bach Christmas Oratorio really vibrated throughout my body, soul, and spirit. Thanks!
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
Immaculate. I saw the two masters in Stuttgart in 1985: Sir John E. Gardiner and Mr. Helmut Rilling. They are absolute giants. This perfprmance made me tremble with faith and succumb to its grandeur and perfection.
Magnificent and marvellous performance! The whole ensemble, orchestra, chorus and soloists, are the people chosen for performing such like high classics, and they live in it. Special thanks to Sir John Eliot Gardiner for this masterpiece, and to the EuroArtsChannel for presenting it.
Always the intricacy of Bach's works amazes me. The Monteverdi Choir, conductor J. E. Gardiner and the orchestra present a harmonic and energetic performance, one of the finest examples of musicians and conductor playing together. Kudos to EuroArtsChannel! The Christma s Oratorio surpasses in intensity, the infinite of musical sensitivity, perfect and sublime recording!
The last melody (lieder or musical air) is repeated across some of Bach’s sacred songs. It is found in Befiehl du daine Wege from Mathew Passion, and in the Schemelli Song Book to which Bach contributed.
His name is Niklas Eklund, heralded as one of the best baroque trumpeters in the world. Some even say he is the best, period. Overall though, this whole performance is terrific!
My very favorite Bach for Christmas! LOVE Claren McFadden, Bernarda Fink, Dietrich Henschel & Christoph Genz as soloists. John Eliot knows how to pick his people! Magnificent performance. Please keep this one going. Tired of seeing these videos taken down & "privatized". Miss the one that was uninterrupted & with closed caption lyrics in English on screen.
Thank you AGAIN. One of my favorite parts of each year, watching this video shortly before Christmas. A beautiful gift you (and JSB) have given. See you in 2020.
Thank you for this performance. I watch it every year at Christmas time. It is truly a nourishing thing for me. Thank you for posting this. I like the bald guy on the trumpet. And the long-haired guy in the clarinet or whatever that instrument is. I like it all. Thanks!
These are references to song numbers of the church's songbook, shown there for the current service. On the basis of the numbers, the attenders at church can see which songs they have to sing in the service.
I still hope that Sir Gardiner will calm down a little bit when he comes of age. Just a tiny bit slower, and the music will start to breath naturally, without being in permanent hastiness...
Nunca vi essas cantatas tão inexpressivas e secas. E que sopraninho vagabundo....Horrível

Magnificent! Trumpet 1 absolutely nailed his performance in the final chorus/chorale.
Niklas Eklund is a legend.

I just can't stop smiling...what joyful music!
THEY ARE PERFECT. EITHER SINGING OR PLAYING. PURE PASSION... PURE BACH
Trumpet 10/10 - what a genius!
Don’t forget those two guys on the natural horn - pure class.
One of the great highlights of part 2 is the fast playing fugal quartet. 2 violins cello snd voice. Its a bring the house down piece
I assume you mean the tenor aria at 16:14 in Cantata 4. If so, I completely agree. Wonderful and exhilarating!
Gardiner conducting Bach, wonderful as always.

Oboe d'Amore (long-haired guy)
The long-haired person playing the oboe is Marcel Ponseele, one of the best oboists in the world.
Niklas Eklund is the baroque trumpet player.
@@lukesargent8350 thank you. I will be watching this video again in about one month as part of my annual ritual. 😊👍🏻

What’s the name of the second aria sung by the soprano?
Please de quand date cet enregistrement?
Why only two contraltos?
Anyone know what year this recording is from?
What is this number board for? 17:48

What?

I my opinion it is played far too fast. I prefer the slower variation.
ça se discute ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
