  • GP Dr Michael Mosley was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes four years ago and rather than start on medication - he invented the 5:2 diet - resulting in him losing weight and reversing his diabetes diagnosis. Dr Mosley will be telling us how you can do the same on a similar diet.

    I told my mom a few years ago about this doctor's success story. My mom was diagnosed with prediabetes -> type 2 diabetes. One day she was not feeling well, presented to A&E and her blood sugar was 12! After that incident, she was adamant to try intermittent fasting. To everyone's surprise, not only she managed to bring her blood glucose back to Normal, her HbA1C now is also at Normal range, plus she is slimmer & much more fit that before. She is 66 y.old this year (around the same age as Dr. Mosely) but she has 10 children and 10 grandchildren! I have not get a chance to say thank you to Dr. Mosely for sharing such method which could improve peoples' health & wellbeing. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Mosely's wife. Please know that his good work doesn't go unnoticed!

    I was diagnosed with prediabetes - 114 mg/dl. I stopped eating dinner after 6 pm, nothing at all. Also, I started a 30-minute walk every night. It helped me to get my blood glucose levels to 93 mg/dl. Working to get it to 85.

    I've read a lot of the research on this subject and he is indeed correct. There have been a few studies but the largest one was based in the UK and it found that when pre-diabetic people lost 10-13% of their body weight something like 80% who maintained the weight loss and lifestyle changes never developed diabetes. They went on to hypothesize that every person has a certain threshold of body fat, particularly around the pancreas and when their body fat rises above that level the pancreas stops working properly and diabetes is the result so by losing enough weight to lower that internal fat below the threshold will cause the pancreas to start working properly again.
    A few other studies have shown that exercise after a meal can significantly lower the blood glucose level. In particular, it seem to have a better effect when you waited 20-30 minutes before exercising. Further, it does not have to be a lot of exercise and it was suggested that exercising 3 times a day after each meal for just 10 minutes could have a significant impact. There are several reasons for this but one reason is that muscles can use glucose directly without the need for insulin so if you're exercising and using muscles they will essentially feed on the glucose.
    If you combine these to lower your weight and get enough exercise, you should be able to reverse your diabetes.

      @@johnheredia5660 sounds like you are more interested in clinging to views that reinforce your biases. You speak of "huge numbers" of diabetics that are not overweight but that is not supported by the data. According to the CDC "89.8% were overweight or had obesity". The evidence is very clear that those who exercise regularly and are not overweight rarely develop diabetes.

      @wackzingo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@franktheman963 there is no evidence to support that claim. The mere fact that it was lowered does not in any way support your claim. Studies showed that even at lower levels like 6.5 a person was at a much higher risk and experience the same symptoms as those at 7.8 so they lowered the threshold. It's always been a sliding scale.

    Diet and sedentary lifestyle play a role, but there is also a genetic component to type 2 diabetes; and even the guy in the video says his father was also a diabetic. I "reversed" the type 2 diabetes; went from A1C 10 to 5.1; cut out all the processed sugar, deep fried food, junk food, etc. I eat less, eat right, and walk two-five miles everyday. Everyone is different though; you have to find the diet that's right for you and the form of exercise that you enjoy. As they say, weight loss helps a lot., as well as finding ways to manage stress; and I went from 225 to 148 pounds. The big thing is the blood sugar/glucose monitor; do it twice a day at least (even if you think you don't have to) so you can see what works and what doesn't; in your own particular case. If you can do keto, or the Mediterranean, or that all-meat diet and live with it for the rest of your life and it's working for you then have at it and good luck eating the same things over and over again; but for me it's simple: chicken, fish and turkey, low on the carbs (and natural carbs such as half an ear of corn on the cob or a small potato), lots of greens, fruits in moderation, no processed sugar, nothing deep fried, very little if any red meat, and no junk food. But monitor the glucose level because everyone's body is different.

      Some people cannot exercise or diet-out their diabetes, which I am sure you know. I am a regular runner, walker, and weight trainer doing martial arts 3x per week and have done this since I was 20 years old, now with LADA diabetes and as soon as I reduce my medication, my diabetes markers start to rise. Going low carb does help as it does not exacerbate the blood sugars and hemoglobin markers, but there is a scrifice on energy levels with this kind of diet, especially for an athlete like myself.

    • @coachgarcia3130

      @@martynblackburn9632 Everyone's body is different. And since T2D is a progressive disease there may be some time when I will have to go back on meds no matter how well I take care of myself. Whether you're able to keep the T2D is complete remission or just "controlled" through medication; the exercise and eating right can't hurt and will probably make a big difference in how long it may be until the really serious symptoms and T2D complications take hold; and that difference can be several years or even decades. It could mean the difference between living until 69 or 89 without complications. Stay strong my friend and stay the course.

Before dinner he gets the GD with another fiber and one of 4 items (ACV and blackstrap molasses, or a teaspoon of a green powder, or chlorophyll or 1/8 c aloe vera juice) along with 500 mg of crushed metformin with water. Then he gets a crush of around 12 different supplements with some ice cream or applesauce. Cut out much of the cakes and cookies and I can't do blood sugars but he really seems to gleam with health.

    + how many days or months or years ?
    = HBA1c < 5.4
    Purpose: to reverse early Pre d type 2
