Question: can a fastball actually level out or even rise as it’s about to cross the plate? Or is that just an illusion? Found conflicting information online

No I think it physically impossible maybe level out but I don't think that's possible either

It’s possible only from a submarine release point. The only guys in the league that can legitimately make the ball rise are Tyler Rogers and Adam Cimber

No fastball thrown over the top actually rises. What’s actually happening is that the spinning ball can generate forces that oppose the force due to gravity, causing the ball to fall less than the brain expects it to over the course of 60 feet. This disparity gives the illusion that the ball is rising.

A baseball obviously can’t “rise” as it’s being thrown effectively downhill off of a pitchers’ mound, duh, but pitchers can 100% put backspin on a ball to counteract gravity enough to level it out on its path from mound to plate, creating a (very convincing) illusion that it’s rising; and it basically is rising from the trajectory that it would typically have.
