- Way back in 2002, developer Luxoflux released True Crime: Streets of LA; an open-world adventure that sought to replicate the magic of Grand Theft Auto 3. The game was met with a middling commercial and critical reception, but it was enough for the publisher to fund a sequel. Hence, True Crime: New York was released to a similar reception two years later - and unsurprisingly failed to turn in a profit.
A third entry was conceived shortly after - this time at United Front Games, but following a disappointing first show - the at-the-time named True Crime: Hong Kong was canned. Thankfully, the publisher would pick this game up, and allowed United Front Games to finish what they started.
We need a Sequel. One of the most underrated games IMO. The fighting system was incredible.

I are one hundred percent with ya .Since I played on P3 and 4 .But are no developers with enough guts to bring a sequel on Sleeping Dogs .
So nobody wants to pick it back up for a remix . Remake, and they closed up the parent company, based on one game? Let Square Enix , RockStar or something else? someone else can do something shocking nobody else has decided to revive that beautiful open work game, supremely tragic news it didn’t turn a profit . I played some of it myself

Thank you GamingBolt for not forgetting this masterpiece. This game was treated so unfairly from the majority of the reviewers comparing it to GTA when it didn't even try to be anything like that and hurt its sales. It was and still is a unique ,awesome experience,especially for people who love asian action cinema.
Compare it to Rockstars Warriers game which also focuses on Hand to hand combat.
Just grabbed the DE for 4$ on GOG. First time even hearing of this.

Also a message to Square Enix for the great work they have done and like you said until today this game has no rival.
Although this game lost as business it showed us what Square Enix is capable of when they are inspired and i will never forget the fun i had playing this.😁😁😁

When you play a game and get mad that the storyline ended, then go on to complete the whole storyline again just so you could play it more......the game was perfect!
Perfect storyline, perfect characters, great graphics, awesome soundtrack and engaging open world.
This game so dope, it’s a shame it never got a sequel. It was One of my favorite games to play during my early teenage years.

Today is 8/14/22...ten years after the release of "Sleeping Dogs " and I still love this game. Arguably the most criminally underrated action open world game ever. I still am upset Square Enix canceled "Sleeping Dogs 2". I truly miss this game.
What amazed me at the time was that they were able to get Brian Wilkinson, Will Yun Lee, Emma Stone, Kelly Hu, Lucy Liu and James Hong to do the voices. Usually there's only one or two famous Hollywood actors in one game. But in this game, almost every speaking role was voiced by well known actors. The budget for this game must be so high. Maybe that's why the people behind this game thought that it's a flop, since they couldn't get enough profit, due to the high production cost.
It wasn't a flop critically and sales wise it broke even .however square enix had a EA moment and made unrealistic expectation of sales 10 15 m units to ship things like this. and if it didn't meet it well no sequel they then released the definitive version and again it was being compared to gta 5 the release dates were also terrible because it was competing against heavy hitters when both version was released
Loved Sleeping Dogs, played through it on both the PS4 and PC. Selling 1.5M copies on its first production run and 'not being profitable' raises an eyebrow though. I know the game had a lot of A list talent it, but still.
profit really depends on what it cost to make the game.

I was a menace when I was younger so I didn't play that much games just played halo reach, black ops 1, assassin's Creed, UFC, GTA IV n rugby league live 1 n 2 n I didn't have internet back then so I would just replay the campaign all the time, then i got sent to my father he introduced me to more iconic games like batman the arkem series, driver san Francisco, Skylanders, DJ hero guitar hero, sleeping dogs you name it my dad was abit of a geek but that's what I loved about him

the first time i played it, i was mindblown by the top quality story and action.
I would love a remake of "Sleeping Dogs. This is easy one of my favorite games ever. I used to drive the first date around town way before I was supposed to. I just love the action and story so much. I used to collect all the clothes and cars and driving around. It's so fun and exciting. I wish someone could someday redo this game to get it on current gen. Good video "Gaming Bolt 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍

Sleeping Dogs doesn’t need a remake at all, gameplay is still fluid in 2022. What we do need is a sequel!

I’m mad I still haven’t finished it got stuck in that level where you have to protect a guy and help him escape but there’s bad people every where waiting for you it’s the gate and behide the cars I mean every where. I’ll have to re buy it snd okay it again for the 10th time lol

I've always considered Sleeping Dogs to be one of those gems that can be bought for next to nothing (£2.40 at the time of writing) while offering an amazing gaming experience. I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone.

Playing through again for like the 15th time right now and I absolutely love this game. I pray that somehow, someway and true next (current) gen sequel gets made and brings all these awesome mechanics/gameplay/and mature story to the current systems.

Sucks we will never get a true sequel this game is a masterpiece I replayed this game more then I can remember it has such amazing atmosphere along with the fighting of course. There's nothing like driving in the rain and night with all the neon signs listening to Black Stone Cherry - Rain Wizard on radio.
Currently playing this in 2024 after not playing it since 2016. All I got to say, is wow. Easily the best and most under appreciated games of all time. There’s a silver lining here with this game.
Maybe, just maybe it’s a good thing this game never got sequels or saw production for another game. It’s one of a kind and deserves its flowers. Love this game

Everytime I got newer gaming hardware I always play Sleeping dogs. from potato pc, ps4 to high end pc. I love this game. I hope there will be a sequel or even prequel.
I tried playing this on PS5 and it kept crashing. This game was absolutely fantastic. Sifu made me think of it a little. Hopefully someday, someone will come along and do SOMETHING with Sleeping Dogs.
I have played and beaten this game like 5 times and that is something that I rarely say in gaming nowadays. I 100%'d all the collectibles at least 2 times when I did it and its still one of the most gripping stories I played through and credit this game (along with Assassin's Creed) for actually bringing me into the Sandbox/Open World genre
It's a shame we will never go back to Hong Kong for a sequel but I know one thing...I'll play the original again soon and love every second of it!
I actually loved True Crime: New York. I felt it was an upgrade from True Crime: Streets of LA (I played NY first and when trying to play LA, felt it was a step down but didn't know that LA came out first so now it makes sense). However, neither game are anywhere close to the same level as Sleeping Dogs. This game truly is one of the most underrated games I have ever played. The graphics are truly on a different level for a game that came out a decade ago. I would have hoped to have had a sequel by now to understand if Wei stayed an officer or a new threat caused him to go back into the criminal underworld. When I got my new Xbox, I immediately purchased Sleeping Dogs. Its gained new life since its initial release.
Such a good game and the cast was amazing.
Sleeping Dogs is one of those rare games which kept me interested throughout the game making me to forget all other things a while, my worries, depression etc. I just fell in love with the story of undercover cop trying to keep all shit together. I am doing so much better personally today but I wouldn't mind a sequel!

I still remember finding this game by mistake. The only two games I was ever hyped for was watch dogs and Spiderman 2018. I used search about watch dogs everyday learn new stuff rewatch the trailers one day because of a mistake I ended clicking on something that said sleeping dogs instead of watch dogs and to date that was one of the best mistake I ever did. Masterpiece. I would kill for a sequel.

The developers for this game went down some time before the switch came out. The publisher needs to hire new people for the port if they see any interest in porting it.

Man.. Finally completed this Game, actually started playing it a lot before, but stopped in btw due to being stuck in a level, and now after so many months that i restarted playing it... MAN! DAYUM!!!
WHAT AN ETHEREAL, INTENSE ACTION-THRILLER MASTERPIECE! Truly Worth every second I invested in this hugely engaging and intuitive action adventure, what a total blast! To the point that its amazing story emotionally grasped me so much that I felt it couldn't be much great! The gruesome action supported by real and bone shaking animations, the mechanics, the controls which though maybe hard to learn at start but once taken care of will gave out the feel of the fight, the well fitting voice acting and the whole environment the game managed to showcase too beautifully and with great detailing. And the explosions the shooting taking cover the oarkour moves martial arts everything related to action and shooting is MIND BOGGLING!!!!
Seriously, one of the most lovable and engaging experiences I ever had playing an open world, with GREAT STORYLINE, GAMEPLAY AND CHARACTERS! The gamer who didn't played this is missing a crazy underworld experience which only this 'One-of-Its-Kind' can offer.. Truly one of its kind. I am in love with Wei Shen. And this Game..!!! 😍

Sleeping Dogs is a perfect example of how to blend several gameplay mechanics from multiple successful titles.
Also, I remember after I finished the game, I immediately created a playlist full of Kerrang! Radio songs. Song choices for this game are freaking on point!
one of my fav games i bought it on ps3 at launch and even the dlc! did get the definitive edition on ps4 and x1 also convince a couple friends to buy it! the combat, story, humor and cast is why this game is in my top games list!

Very underrated game. A very different setting as opposed to the American cities. The hand to hand combat was very satisfying. A shame we won't be able to get a sequel to this hidden gem

Honestly, the only game that I can think of would be GTA4, but even that is different. In general, Hong Kong is such an underrated setting in video-games, and Sleeping Dogs is a great example of how you can make a GTA clone set in a country where firearm ownership is regulated.
I wonder why this never caught on? But is released today, I think it would do better based on Si Fu sales

I played thru it in the last six months for the first time, and thought it was really great - in 2022. I would have liked some of the decisions to have more of an effect on story though - let me choose if i wasnt to go corrupt or not.
They had that planned in the sequel along with a co op partner or 2 character you controlled who affected each other story and outcome sadly we never got to see what they had in mind for the sequel
I just finished playing this game for the first time yesterday and after completing the dlc I will be starting another playthrough. This game is one of my favourites, it is seriously slept on. I wish they would make a second game, but unfortunately that isn't happening.

I have to admit, when I purchased Sleeping Dogs day-one, I had it confused for Watch Dogs. I literally thought to myself "when does the hacking start?" But when I actually purchased Watch Dogs on release day, I realized I liked Sleeping Dogs so much more.

I somehow had missed this game when it was released, and Xbox gave it away for free on Games with Gold. Man. One of the best games from that generation, so underrated. Everything about it was great.
I enjoyed this game so much more than any GTA and must've put hundreds of hours in just ramping off cars with a motorbike to see where I could get stuck.

This was the greatest open world game I've ever played along with Witcher 3,Vice city and GTA 5. What set it apart from all the others was it's combat system and story.
The combat was so satisfying, dynamic while interacting with the surroundings. I was waiting for part 2 but it never came.
Did anyone see the nice little detail of animation at 3:56? Pur hero sweeps a low kick and one of the baddies jumps up to avoided being swept off his feet. I love shit like that.

This is the best open world game for me. The combat, the story, the graphics. Everything about this game is awesome. This needed a sequal and not a garbage online game. I also loved true crime and true crime 2.
Sleeping Dogs is definitely in my top 10 games of all time !! it was action packed, good story and characters, nice gameplay, even the trophies were well made... think it was my 2nd Platinum on PS3

This was such an amazing game. I'd dive head first into a Switch port. Highly unlikely it'll ever happen, but a boy can dream.
