Our local cinema has been doing retro movies the last month. Seeing Predator on the big screen is another animal entirely. Saw the Ultimate Hunter Edition, all cleaned up, was absolutely amazing.
0:48 This is my favorite moment of this scene. You can tell by his expression it's the moment Dillon realizes he's going to die and he can't do anything about it. Such great acting by Carl Weathers!
I feel like the moment they heard Dillon screaming at 1:53, that was the moment Billy knew he had to step up and honor Dillon's death by facing the Predator knowing his fate as sure as Dillon's.
I was shit scared of this movie when I first saw it in the early 1990s. This scene is one of the scariest. If you jump to the shoes of Dilon, you are up against something you don't understand, something you can't see, something way more powerful than you....you are simply going to die. The way predator is running towards Dilon, its actually death running towards him. This is a fantastic film. One of the best alien vs. human movies ever made. I would rate it as the best Arnold Schwarzenegger movie after T2. Even generations from now, this movie could be still enjoyed.

Earlier Mac barked at Dillon for slipping up and giving away their position and then threatened to "Bleed him real quiet like and leave him here" But here it seems like it was Mac who actually ghosted them and gave away their position, leading to both of their deaths
@@Defender78Bill Duke(Mac) was absolutely brilliant. Loved it when he played dead. The look of death on his face was absolutely realistic. When it said ANYTIME 2 get his attention.

Due to scenes like this, this movie could easily be considered a horror movie, but instead of dumb teenagers, the victims are special forces soldiers. I enjoyed this film in my childhood.
Dillon was a different type of coporate a-hole pencil pusher. Most film pencil pushers like Burke from Aliens initially start off as artificially charming and empathetic until the last 20 minutes reveal them to be the most heinous character. Dillon is revealed early on to have manipulated Dutch's team and Hoppers team to eliminate the revelutionaries for the CIA . While he's an a-hole at the begining he avoids going the same route as Burke in that he doesnt run away or do anything cowardly . He accepts that he's become what he reffered Dillon and his team as "An expendable asset " and at least accepts responsibility for his actions . When Dutch tells him he can't win and Dillon replies " No but maybe I can get even " its basically him telling Dutch "I know I screwed you guys over and that I'm likely to be a goner by the end , but let me make it up to you by buying you guys some time to escape". By the end he's pretty much earned Dutch's respect to the point where Dutch gives him an extra MP5 to protect himself . Dillon may have been a pencil pushing a-hole , but in the end he went out like a champ.
Wow I never thought of it like that. That was actually pretty good way of putting it. When he said maybe I can get even, I thought he meant at least he would wound predator. But what you said seem more deeper and real. Now I got more respect for Dillon lol
0:55 to 1:01 see that slight distortion in the pan and scan movement, just up and to the left of that big fern leaf? The Predator is standing right there looking at Dillon and he doesn't even see it until he looks back. But WE see it, and it's scary AF to know Dillon is a dead man before he knows it himself. Awesome scene. Awesome suspense.
yeah he's standing there watching him the whole time, even taunting him with playing a recording, anytime, then intentionally reveals himself by flashing his eyes at him, as in I'm up here. doing that either to taunt or making itself a challenge.
do you know how many of us would have just stood there looking at our arm unable to move by the fear we felt?! Dillon still had the mental stability to try & shoot with his remaining SMG.
His adrenaline was probably firing up like crazy from losing that arm and the realization of imminent death, so the only thing on his mind was to kill the Predator before he bled out.
No I feel Bad dir the predator I mean he Comes to a planet and what he have to See a guy kills a poor scorpion! So what should he do,? Tell me please? What Choice did he have than ripping of there skinns?

The power in this scene was and still is phenomenal. The use of camera angles, subliminal shots, and suspenseful build up create a moment of unparalleled terror. It feels much like the moments leading up to a car accident. We know something horrible is about to happen, but not how. It is this uncertainty which creates the Fear, and the excitement. The look on Dillon's face at 0:54 was perfect. in that moment, we all knew that he was already dead. We were just waiting to see how it would happen.

They didn't heard his first scream .. but what I like as him being a soldier .. he still goes on with 1 arm trying to fight back .. most people would fall down and cry or something like that ..
It's really clever how they show Dillon in slow-motion, to emphasise the nightmarish sluggishness of his reaction to the Predator. Meanwhile the Predator's aiming and movement is in real-time, making it seem horrifyingly fast. I recommend Collative Learning's video on this scene, he goes through it all.
When I was younger the gruesome nature of this death meant that there was a version where it cut straight to the scene of the others crossing the river when Dillon was shot. It was years later when I watched this version and the scene of the Predator running after shooting his arm off that gave me genuine chills up my spine. I’ll never forget that moment. It still is my favourite movie to this day
I will miss him he was a great actor Carl weather's linebacker for Oakland raiders creed in the 4 rocky films he was in and dillion in this legendary iconic scene with the predator rip brother I been watching this movie sence I was a kid in the 80s
The music truly brought this movie to an extra mile, it's superb, it fucking fits every single scene and it drives you crazy for how dark and mysterious it is, you just feel as them, scared of something you can't see! Absolute masterpiece, we're lucky to have such a movie!
Such an amazingly well executed movie! We had this on VHS when I was a kid, but it was taped off the TV and was edited. In the version I spent years watching Dillon’s death scene ends when he is blasted with the Predator’s shoulder canon, so I always thought that he died from a shot to the chest like Blaine. Imagine my shock when in my late teens I moved into my own place and Predator was one of the first DVDs I bought for my action movie collection, and I discovered that there was a whole lot more to Dillon’s death scene than I expected. If the team could have seen how Dillon went out then they would have respected him a whole lot more. He took it like a man and even tried to look for the kill shot just seconds after getting his arm blown off. A true warrior. Also RIP Carl Weathers, a true gentleman and a very underrated actor.
He deserved a better career. Clearly it was a respectable one but deserves his flowers big time. Did hollwood not know what to do with him? He was insanely charismatic,a perfect specimen physically, not too buff,no fat, just in great shape and he moved like a panther. Was he...threatening? He just felt so accessible. Who would dislike him? The black community needed a black kickass action star. The world too. Only giving Carl the lead in Action jackson, watch it bomb and just discard him always seemed messed up, RIP to an immense talent ad one of Hollwoods Most frustrating WHAT IFS, Apollo is eternal
Action Jackson made quite a bit of money internationally which balanced off the American box office. 1970s star Fred Williamson started producing his own films in Europe and Asia after an Italian distributor told him that they were buying the American studios' "black action' films for pennies on the dollar, then making $1 million or more from theater rentals (1970s era). The American studio executives "had no idea" that this was taking place and just considered the black-led films "less than" on principle. The lessons hadn't been learned by the 1980s. the 70s stars were abandoned, mostly. Eddie Murphy became the exception that proved the rule-- a comedic black action star, but he never really "got" the girl (on-screen, anyway). Weathers was a straightforward action actor but he was not supported by the studios with his own production deal. He ended up doing "Fortune Dane" as a short-lived detective show on ABC, which got canceled after handful of episodes. "Dangerous Passion" (1990) was a TV movie. He should have been leading a Law & Order franchise at this point. I'm glad he was in Star Wars Mandalorian but I also felt he should have been in a superhero movie or TV show, going back years ago. Luke Cage couldn't get green-lit by the early 90s, which he was tentatively contracted to do. It would have worked, but the most we got out of black superheroes by the early 90s were the parody characters Blankman and Meteor Man. Alas.
@@Hypestyle Yes,an extremely trashed movie starring Weathers did make decent money. But that he didn't get better offers concidering how long he was an actor is mindboggling,or we could say specifically between 77 and 92. Felt like there was space for him to thrive and if Action Jackson had led to him getting his own subgenre, sort of like a continuation of the blaxploitation era, that would be fine. In Predator for instance,he is so much larger than poster, billing and even script indicates,he really shines and feels like a moviestar without hogging the spotlight, equally charismatic to Arnold If race was involved,I can not say. Yes, it's harder for black actors to make it big but he was so obviously an action star, it's weird people didn't wanna capitalize on that concidering the absence of someone like him.

They didn't heard his first scream .. but what I like as him being a soldier .. he still goes on with 1 arm trying to fight back .. most people would fall down and cry or something like that ..
Even his death scream had testosterone
🤣
this might be the most iconic death in the franchise
Amazing movie, amazing scene. I still get my heart racing seeing the predator running and extending its blade. Then...the scream...that scream, man.
Now that he passed this scene hits different now.
I was only 5 years old when my Dad made me watch this!! Best Dad ever!!!❤❤❤
“Mando! I want this one brought in COLD, it’s personal!”
They say Carl passed away in his sleep yesterday. I think this scene is more like how it probably happened. RIP Carl. Be peace.
Rest In Peace Carl Weathers. We'll miss you
It's really clever how they show Dillon in slow-motion, to emphasise the nightmarish sluggishness of his reaction to the Predator.
It still is my favourite movie to this day
R.I.P. Carl , loved your movies.
I will miss him he was a great actor Carl weather's linebacker for Oakland raiders creed in the 4 rocky films he was in and dillion in this legendary iconic scene with the predator rip brother I been watching this movie sence I was a kid in the 80s
Rest in Power Carl Weathers. You will live forever in your movies and our hearts.
Legend has it that gun is still shooting.

RIP Carl Weathers and Thank You!!!
In Predator for instance,he is so much larger than poster, billing and even script indicates,he really shines and feels like a moviestar without hogging the spotlight, equally charismatic to Arnold
If race was involved,I can not say. Yes, it's harder for black actors to make it big but he was so obviously an action star, it's weird people didn't wanna capitalize on that concidering the absence of someone like him.
Rest in peace, Dillon.
The way the Predator sprints around Dillon like a lion always amazes me. Just like a hunter.

Look at Dillons face and eyes .. great acting .. and the music background .. Damn !!!! .. that's really good work ..
Big props to the perfectly-scored suspense music that hits the big notes on Dillon’s scream
Carl Weathers acting is great , disillusion and despair permeates every part of him , his skin and especially his gaze.
Such a great scene. Carl Weathers is awesome in Predator.
36-years-later, this is still a scary scene.
Predator Is toying him, look at 0:59 he is just looking him
That's what a predator does.
waiting for him to draw his gun
Holy moly you’re right ! He’s been there this whole time, I’ve just now seen it
RIP Carl weathers
Alan Silvestri's score is so effective in this scene. It amps up the tension to 10, as we know Dillon's end is near.
At 0:59 you can actually see him before Dillon spots him with the glowing eyes
