The promo he cut about his personal issues (on TH-cam as "His Own Worst Enemy") is heartbreaking, inspirational and one of the best interviews in wrestling history.
I liked Buddy and was really pleased to see he'd gotten his life back on track after all his troubles. He appeared on a ring roast with Cornette where he had all his shit together, and then did a very entertaining interview with Colt Cabana not long before he passed away. Both are well worth tracking down. RIP.
Loved Buddy Landel. He was an incredibly talented guy who unfortunately couldn't get out of his own way for a lot of his life, which bled over into his professional life and led to a lot of burned bridges and missed opportunities in wrestling. The period Cornette is talking about here was great to see and it's too bad (for a number of reasons) Smoky Mountain closed because Buddy was on fire and doing maybe the best work of his career. RIP
A lot of wrestlers have trouble getting out of their own way, buddy landell's biggest issue is that he always came to a territory when it was fledgling and nobody was watching, his timing was always off as far as that went
Buddy didn’t cut a promo he testified. I’ve always loved the little wink pro wrestling in the South has always given to preachers. If you think about it a lot of those promos are straight off of Billy Graham or Robert Tilton.
Late summer, Fall of 1994, Buddy made the big comeback. He went back to Memphis and started losing weight. I want to say September94. Buddy was living in Kentucky then and coaching a Christian highschool flag football team in August 94. I think he was going to give it one last try to comeback and he pulled it off! I was so excited to get to see and talk to him Christmas Chaos 94 at Knoxville Coliseum his first Knoxville show back for SMW.
Buddy was so damn good he's one of those what might've been stories.I really think Flair really benefited from Magnum's unfortunate car accident and Buddy's self destructive tendencies as good as Flair was I think Buddy and Magnum both would've had great runs as champion.
A couple of things to remember about Buddy when you watch him on TH-cam is that 1) he rarely put time in the gym and 2) he used alcohol/drugs on a daily basis for his whole adult life. Despite that, you can still see that he had real ability in the ring and was great on the mic. Imagine what Buddy could have been had he been sober, ate a proper diet and on a serious weight training regimen.

Landell, I’d let you borrow one of my robes..if you wouldn’t get lost in the sleeves. - Flair
I remember that promo. JJ Dillon was buddy's manager.

I agree. I’ve listened to the Colt interview a couple times.
Buddy Landel was a fantastic talent. Very underrated-

Landel was good but you can't compare him to THE YETAY!!!
The Battle of the Nature Boys! Landel VS Flair!
Sounds like night of legends was the original All-In
Sad story about Buddy. He could have really made something of himself at the time. Gifted and surrounded by talent at right time to pull it off too.

Also Tommy Rich was badly wasted.
In 1995 Jim and the boys poured a bottle of beer down Buddy's throat. Too bad it wasn't a pint of Jim Beam.
God bless buddy he could work /sale and he definitely had the look, great elbow drop great all around wrestler
Mid South GOLD.
The poor man's Ric Flair 😂😂😂
Landell was talented.
Landell should have been in the nwo to mock nature boy ric flair.
Buddy Landel was like Tracey Smothers. A smaller federation champion. He wasn't a top promotion star.
A poor man's Ric Flair.
