This was when I saw the Bell Star helmets for the very first time. When the TV news showed some of the practice, Graham Hill's new lid looked like something out of this world. I was smitten with this new shape.
Yes. I think this was the first season that Bell Star 1 full face hemets were used although not all drivers used them. Would have been far safer though especially if the car caught fire.
Just checked Bell Helmets website. They first designed their original full face bell star helmet in 1963 but they were not officially used in competion until the German F1 GP in 1968 by an American driver, Dan Gurney. It is noted on wikipedia that he was the very first driver to use a full face helmet in GP racing. You learn something every day!
