      Repeating my general comment so you have a better chance to see it, here: Isn't citric acid technically a carb? So lemons and limes might have a high ratio of non-sugar carbs from citric acid?
      PS: I thought of this because I've purchased powdered citric acid and it "has carbs"-a notable amount. I searched it, and the found that it's "technically a carb."

      Dr Ekberg, I eat one lemon a day, peel and all. I cut the lomon in slices and juice the whole thing with a glass of water. I also have a fatty liver and don't eat carbs. Not 100% keto, but just fat and protein in general. Is it okay to have the whole lemon?

      @Pepeko Yes, but he knows more about nutrition and how the body responds to it more than any medical doctor. And he has saved more than a million lives with the advice he has freely given. No medical doctor on the planet can make that claim. Those are the facts of the matter.

    • @hanaluong2672
      @hanaluong2672 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Pepeko I started watching Dr. Ekberg's videos on Mar 8 and since then have bing watched. I started the diet he recommended 3 days ago. Before Mar 12, I was diabetic. I had been on Rybelsus 14 mgs and lost about 30 pounds (8 months). So on Mar 13, I decided to cut a pill into two halves and took one. I measured the blood sugar as 110 mg/dL. Yesterday Mar 14, I stopped taking Rybelsus. I ate a breakfast that contained a coffee and some non-sweet fruits & a piece of butter and drank a lot of hot tea during the day. I ate meat and some greens in the evening. This morning, the blood sugar was 90 mg/dL. After 2 1/2 days since I followed his advice, I am free from diabetes. I have also lost 3 pounds. My husband is still at work; I cannot borrow his tool for measuring blood pressure yet. I suspect that the high blood pressure has gone. I hope that when I go for a liver ultrasound in 6 months, the fatty liver issue would have gone too. I am writing this to you to encourage you to give this doctor a chance or to be more exact, to give your health a chance. He does not charge you a dime. He does not run ads on his videos. All you risk is to get good health and live long.

    Dr. Ekberg is a very good teacher; he breaks down facts into very simple and easy-to-understand points and also presents to us the limitation of his research and findings before encouraging us to formulate our own conclusion. Great content packed into an awesome video as usual, thanks Dr. Ekberg!

    • @HH-gn9qt
      @HH-gn9qt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, he is great at presenting the facts to back up his talking points. He realizes people are MUCH more likely to pay attention to what he says if he can teach WHY things occur. If anyone has watched the popular vegan doc, they specialize in presenting half truths and very rarely explain the science....probably because any science within the last 40 to 50 years doesn't support plant based diets.

    Lemon and also vinegar for that matter is hard on the chops when eaten directly and not mixed as in an iced tea or a Italian dressing with added vinegar which will then be supposedly safely diluted for example because pure vinegar with garden salad used to be an everyday staple when I was growing up and putting two and two together made me realize why everyone needed dentures.

    I wish dieticians who make up institutional menus had the knowledge given in these videos. I was in the hospital and one day for breakfast was fed: orange juice, yogurt with fruit (and sugar), pancakes with 2 portions of syrup, coffee with two sugars. I had a laptop with me and looked up the sugar content. It was in excess of 100 grams, plus there were easily converted starches in the pancakes. When the dietitian came to visit, she was shocked when I mentioned it and promised to provide low carb, high protein meals for the rest of my stay. The next day's breakfast had eggs, but also juice, toast, jam and sweetened yogurt.

      At the hospital they believe that any side item of less than 40gram of carbs = keto. I was brought a tray with apple pie on type II diabetes plate. WTAF I try for less than 40 grams a day. By their hospital definition you could have 200 grams of carbs IN ONE MEAL and still be keto. The ignorance is deafening. I went round and round with the medical dietary department that insisted that oatmeal is the healthiest thing you can eat. YES, if you are a horse or cow. Oatmeal is 100 percent starch which is sugar. It breaks down in your mouth before you even swallow it with amylase.

    Most overweight people have read consuming fruits and fruit juice is healthy. Bad advice if you have a fatty liver and need to lose weight. Too much fructose. For nutrition (vitamins, minerals, etc), eat leafy greens (lettuces, kale, parsely, chard, greens, etc) and cruciferous vegetables (asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, etc) instead of fruit and fruit juices.

      The fruit eaters live longer in studies! Sweet! For those of us that exercise and are at ideal weight and don't have diabetes, I say enjoy your fruit for dessert three or four times a day!
      The University of Oxford used data from nearly half a million subjects in China over several years, which suggested that those who eat fruit every day reduce their risk of CVD by 25 to 40 percent, when compared to those who never eat fruit.
      "The researchers found that compared to people who never ate fruit, those who ate fruit daily cut their CVD risks by 25-40% (around 15% for IHD, around 25% for ischaemic stroke and 40% for haemorrhagic stroke). There was a dose response relationship between the frequency of fruit consumption and the risk of CVD (see figure)."

      " When examined separately, fruit intake was associated with lower risk of cardiovascular, non-cardiovascular, and total mortality, while legume intake was inversely associated with non-cardiovascular death and total mortality (in fully adjusted models)."

      In this study, Fruits beat out vegetables with respect to reducing the risk of Coronary Heart Disease!
      "The risk of CHD was decreased by 4% [RR (95% CI): 0.96 (0.93-0.99), P = 0.0027] for each additional portion per day of fruit and vegetable intake and by 7% [0.93 (0.89-0.96), P < 0.0001] for fruit intake."

      In this 13 year study of approx 50,000 people in Japan, fruit reduced the risk of death more so than beans or vegetables:
      "Fruit intake was inversely associated with mortality from total stroke (the multivariable hazard ratio (HR (95 % CI)) in the highest v. lowest quartiles = 0.67 (0.55, 0.81)), total CVD (HR = 0.75 (0.66, 0.85)) and total mortality (HR = 0.86 (0.80, 0.92)). Vegetable intake was inversely associated with total CVD (HR = 0.88 (0.78, 0.99)). Bean intake was inversely associated with other CVD (HR = 0.79 (0.64, 0.98)), total CVD (HR = 0.84 (0.74, 0.95)) and total mortality (HR = 0.90 (0.84, 0.96)). Further adjustment for other plant-based foods did not alter the association of fruit intake with mortality from total stroke, total CVD and total mortality, but attenuated the associations of vegetables and beans with mortality risk. In conclusion, intakes of plant-based foods, particularly fruit intake, were associated with reduced mortality from CVD and all causes among Japanese men and women."

    Thank you doc for clarifying the amounts of sugar in most virus fruits / was a big help in explaining it to my kids how bad OJ is - my hubby refuses to listen and drinks a whole glass of Oj when he’s hot and sweaty n tired after a big workout and low on sugar in spite of me telling him to eat an orange instead of a glass of Oj - also told him a glass of fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice Lemonade” with pinch of salt n a just a dash of sugar will give him hydration and all the salts required for dehydration - he takes the easy way out n just pours himself a glass of Oj from fridge!! 🙄🙄won’t listen to my advice but same thing a doctor or someone else says- he will listen for sure!! 😮 the sugar content of citrus fruits knowledge is very useful thank you ! Keep up your good work doc! Appreciate it a lot! 🙏🙏💖

      Yes I know that , sir, that’s why I give him lemon or lime juice from juice of half a lemon or lime with some sugar and sea salt added to it- doesn’t that make a good home made electrolyte drink? What do you say , doc Ekcberg? 😂

      Coconut water natural as possible with nothing added makes a good electrolyte too just as lemon juice with sugar water and salt added ! I think even milk is an electrolyte drink cows milk, right doc? Vegetable juice bananas etc all are good to supply rehydration after exercise I think ? 😊

    Tuscanini 100% sicilian lemon juice not from concentrate is probably the best lemon juice you can buy that comes in 200ml squeezy bottles or 500ml bottles. Does contain potassium metabisulfite but saves you squeezing 40 lemons.

    Hi, thanks for your efforts and time, the information you're sharing changing lives! Hoping that the new year brings you new ideas and possibilities.
    I have a question regarding lemons. These days, I consume a quarter of lemon almost every day, so it turns out it's about 0,8 grams of sugar per day. Is it OK to do so on a daily basis, or it's better to consider making breaks?
    Thanks

    There might be a plausible risk::reward ratio justification to eat just the apple skins for the ursolic acid, then just the skins of lemon for the lemolene, skins only of limes for the Naringenin, and finally berries & dark/tart cherries in moderation for polyphenols. Forget all the mediocre fruits. This is smartest rationale I can conjure up.

    I know why the lemon and lime have high net carbs because I’ve looked it up in the past. What’s happening is that they are reporting only the juice from lemons and limes. They don’t report on the lemons and limes as if you are eating them. So there is no fiber there. I would like to know the net carbs if you consume the entire lemon or lime (like in a smoothie). Thanks so much and I hope maybe I’m correct!

      Fyi, store bought lemonade has even more sugar than fresh squeezed orange juice. For example, Costco's Kirkland brand lemonade has a total of 32 grams of sugar (29 grams of added sugar) in an 8 oz. serving compared to 21 grams of sugar. That is about 50% more sugar.

    it was great to discover the joys of eating Pomelo (especially the Pink/Red instead of the Yellow/Gold) beginning over 20yrs back. The Mrs was shied off Grapefruit by her Dr, due the effects of Grapefruit relating to Quinine (she'd had malaria when a child, and always since warned about the Grapefruit). The Pomelo makes for a great alternative. We also grow Mayer Lemon tree out the back of the house

    Thanks Again! This offers up some truly useful & semi-uncomfortable information. Because of the sugar, I learned to stop my beloved fresh squeezed organic OJ, but as compensation took up eating a few mandarins as a daily treat to start the day. Guess that's over now! Both my GP & Cardiologist have had me on statins for years, (I'm in my 70s) and I take CoQ10 daily thinking I'm somehow counteracting/compensating for the statin impact effect.
    PLEASE do a fresh, dedicated video presentation on the mechanics & impact of STATINS (so widely used!) and your personal best dietary & supplement practices for those who are (still) taking them as per the routine advice of doctors.

    Dr. Robert Lustig, in his book Metabolical, discusses the role of fiber in metabolism. For example, on page 259 he makes this observation:
    "Furthermore, juice is as egregious a delivery vehicle for sugar as is soda. Studies of juice consumption show increased risk of diabetes and heart disease even after controlling for calories, while whole fruit demonstrates protection. It’s the processing that causes the problems. Our ancestors didn’t have the health complications associated with fructose because they ate the whole fruit."
