My favorite set by far is Tempest. I remember being in my middle school library playing with the boys during lunch and making TERRIBLE trades. Can't ever get that feeling back and wouldn't trade it for anything. Thanks for all these trips back to better times.

When people wax poetic about the best parts of their childhood, mine was walking into town to my local comic shop to buy packs of Weatherlight and the lastest InQuest magazine with my allowance. Life didn't get much better than that. Thanks for opening this today and bringing back those cherished memories, Rudy.

I just watched a vid where you pulled a Southern Paladin from a random box of packs you gathered up, supposed to be $666 worth of packs. You pulled an Ishan's Shade and Eron in the same pack.

I remember opening a box of Weatherlight, at a store in my town that no longer exists, when it first came out. Got so excited about Aboroth! It was a 9/9 for 6 mana! Also, Rogue Elephant was amazing.

That was an awesome opening! I wish they would bring back some old mechanics AND flavor to newer sets.
Abbie, aka Abeyance, was one of the RL cards to recently spike. As you know, in May and June 2020, RL cards from Mirage, Tempest and Urza saw a lot of spikes. Abbie went from 5 to 15$ just recently.
Abeyance’s claim to fame: It enabled white wheenie decks to effectively handle combo decks. Back in the day Prosperous Bloom was the deck to beat.
Rudy is so right about the crazieness and variety of decks people played in these days. It was so much fun!
I like how Rudy always opens the beat up boxes of older product for his patrons.
I used to play a Jade Statue deck with stuff like Mishra's Factory, The Abyss, Tabernacle, I would of loved that Xanthic Statue.

Mirage and Stronghold boxes still hold the title for the best artwork and display, but Weatherlight makes a good argument too.

Hey Rudy, is there any way for me to get involved in your Patreon and buy a box for you to open on the channel? I just recently got back into Magic because of your videos, something about watching you open boxes of cards and wax philosophical put me in my nostalgia zone. So I bought a booster box of Ikoria, and Core 2021, a couple deck builder kits, and a red pre constructed deck and spent the last couple nights organizing my new collection. However, I am interested in some of these older sets that I will never find in a store and I see you doing videos where your subscribers and patreons buy boxes for you to open and well, here we are. Let me know if theres a way to get involved!
You only missed Winding Canyons. You hit every other reserve list card worth over a few bucks, I think.
I wanna hear your thoughts on standard not being played in paper how in the long run singles will br affected because alot of the product is not being opened and with 50 styles of every card it seem like the loryn erra ware card will be pricy because there scarce

As a white weenie player back in the day I loved this set. Serra's Blessing, Benalish Knight, Angelic Renewal. Empyrial Armor + Land Tax was a great combo. A couple nice pieces of meta to deal with other decks as well. Good times.

I was at the prerelease for Weatherlight. I won a box and then traded it for a bunch of dual lands. Back when WoTC cared about the paper game .. those were fun days

Why would you play null rod after a sol ring. So you can ensure you can't use your own sol ring after the first turn?
This was the case example for the small set+no mythic boxes of this era. If you bought a box, you basically got most of the chase cards in the set.
Hey Rudy, when you open these modern cards could you talk about card stock (briefly albeit)? I'm confused with card stock quality when it to newer standard cards versus old modern? Card stock quality in newer sets seems shiny on the front? Yet it changes so much?
He talks about it from time to time. There is two printers that work on mtg cards. Japanese printers with higher card stock for firat print runs, I think US or European printers for the second printing that is hated. Except Core 21 which was a lot of the poor card stock.
I do not know if he has ever done just a video on this but he has talked about this over the years from time to time.

Nah, digital art can be good. But the art director needs to give the artists creative freedom instead of enforcing a consistent style. Today‘s art needs some Foglio wackyness, some Hoover line art etc. That can be done digitally.

I've only had one experience with Goblin Bomb.
5 way commander game. The dude just sat there building it up with no one watching. Nukes everyone for 40. The vampire deck won because they had 47 life when the bomb went off.
