    the fact that sony managed to license real life brands for the game is something you couldnt replicate today anymore. conditions for licensing became so strict nowadays,most manufacturers dont even allow to display damage in racing games..

    Another terrific review, I for some odd reason have never played this game even though I have seen it available often since launch, ironically I was just given this PS2 game as a gift, so now I have a good reason to try it!
    "Made Man: Confessions of the Family Blood" is a lessor known of fun Mafia game which reminds me a little of "The Getaway",.
    "Scarface the World is Yours" is an excellent & delightfully violent "GTA" clone, I'm sure you know how great it is based off the fact we like similar immersive action games.

    Fun fact: in GTA Vice City, there is a mission, where you have to kill certain gang members in given amount of time, and all of the gang members were named after the protagonists from "GTA clones", but names were slightly altered, including yes, The Getaway, which I find funny, because both games were made by British developers.

    • @user-gg7tr6kn5m
      @user-gg7tr6kn5m 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@NoMooreMercyTV It's called "Autocide", one of the payphone missions. The person goes by the name Marcus Hammond.
      As a sidenote, another person you must kill is named D*ck Tanner, a clear reference to John Tanner from Driver series. This is the 2nd time Driver series protagonist is given a mention in GTA, the first one being a mission called "Two-faced Tanner" from GTA III, where you must kill a driver who is an undercover policeman.

    • @NoMooreMercyTV

      Lmao I watched someone play through it, you also kill "Franco Carter" and "Charlie Dilson," as well as "Nick Kong" as in Nick Kang from True Crime: Streets of LA.

    Interesting review, I've only played TG: Black Monday and I was always wondering what it was like in comparison to the first game.
    Overall, The Getaway series is one which honestly should've at least had a return (remake, remaster, etc.) as it brought something original to the table - I think I'll revisit Black Monday this weekend just to see how the mechanics changed between the two cause I definitely remember that health system, just can't remember for sure if they did add a health bar as well.

    • @NoMooreMercyTV
      @NoMooreMercyTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They have the system in Black Monday, but you regenerate MUCH faster. The game in general is much faster paced, with more action sequences and shoot outs. I think they read the criticisms of the first game and tried to make it a more tolerable experience, in that department anyway.

  • @MrRocket2008

    I remember playing this when I was younger and really enjoying it. It's probably the first game I remember playing that had a "gritty grown up" story. Something which you would expect to see in a film or TV show, but you didn't really get much in games at the time.
    From a gameplay side of things, looking back at it now it appears really clunky. I would love to have a remake of this game (at least Mark's section anyway, don't really remember Frank's section much) with mordern graphics and physics, and more game friendly controls and gamplay mechanics with a minimal hud.

    • @NoMooreMercyTV
      @NoMooreMercyTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      100% agree. Though, I think Frank's section would be a lot better with a better control scheme and modern visuals. I died a ton of times getting caught on things or the camera just didn't adjust quick enough to snap to someone new that dropped in on me.

    Saints Row is pretty cool. I've played 3 & 4 multiple times and currently playing 2 on PC (in which I encounter a problem where the game would crash after finishing one of the Sons of Samedi missions. What is even worse is that it would crash before the Mission Complete-type screen appears, meaning I have to start the game and play the entire mission all over again)

      Yeahhhh Saints Row 2 is really buggy on PC unfortunately, the dev who was spearheading the project to fix the game passed away too. Volition said they were continuing development on it in his honor but we haven't heard anything since his passing. I'm hoping after the disaster of the newest game, they'll revisit 2.

But looking at it now, I think it looks like a very ambitious game that is also a bit rough around the edges, which is exactly my kind of game. I should check this out at some point.

    This basically sums up my experience with the game, I never bothered to continue playing after i beat Mark’s story and god knows if I’ll ever play it again but it was nice to play a gta style game with British voices innit, I’d say when it comes to good “gta clones” the Mafia games have always been some of my favourites, even mafia iii with its repetitive gameplay lol, Chad review

    • @PacoRobbins
      @PacoRobbins 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mafia 3 was okay, but it took me years to beat it. I initially bought it right after it dropped. Something was wrong with it though. I got to the mission on the gambling boat and my game would not save. I tried multiple times and it would always default to before that mission.

      @NoMooreMercyTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh yeah, Mafia Definitive and Mafia II are incredible games that I loved, I'll have to do a vid on the second one sometime. Regarding the third one, I will say this, they nailed the atmosphere. The soundtrack, the cars, the way people talked to Clay. I thought it was a unique spin on the formula, but ultimately the level design brought it down for me. I thought it was very repetitive and bland. Such a shame too.

Which sucked as they wanted to use Minis, being a British icon, but they are owned by BMW, as is the name. You might want to play a lot of your future ps2 games for review on the PCSX2 emulator since it's gonna be the primary way people will be able to play the PS2 games you review on your channel.
    The great thing about the PCSX2 is you can play most games in 4K at 60fps. Almost all the Ps2 games you've reviewed on your channel can be played at 60fps which fixes all the slowdown that's so prevalent in old PS2 games not to mention them being in 4K. And like I said before, that emulator is going to be the primary way any of your viewers will have to play these older games so reviewing them that way makes a lot of sense.

    • @NoMooreMercyTV
      @NoMooreMercyTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Daniel, thank you for the suggestion and thanks for watching! Your line of thinking makes a lot of sense, but for me I don't think emulation is necessarily the answer. The Getaway has problems when upscaled, for example the navigational blinkers don't function properly. (This may have been fixed, but it was an issue when I last tried a few years ago). I'm of the opinion that the game should be played from original hardware, where possible. Why? The slowdowns are a pain in the butt, sure, but I believe it's important to mention from a review standpoint. It was, and is, a part of the game and that platform's limitations. I also just plainly like the look of the older games with the lower resolution, call it nostalgia or whatever but PS2 games upscaled look off to me. I believe with my current setup; I'm getting adequate video out of original hardware. It's never going to match emulation, but the accuracy is more so what I'm after.

      Oh yeah, absolutely the PS2 had some absolutely hideous games. But comparing it to the PS1? It's leaps and bounds better. Compared to the Xbox though? Not even close. I think if anything, it proves how important a strong, consistent game library is as opposed to pure visual fidelity. Xbox got many of the multiplatform games, and they were usually the best version of those games, but the exclusives I can think of on PS2 were must-haves. The Getaway being just one of the many in my eyes.

The correct term to use for open world crime games that compete with GTA are "GTA-rivals" NOT "GTA clones". Do ya'll call every horror game a "Resident Evil clone"? Do you also call every fighting game a "Street Fighter clone"? Or every racer a "Forza clone"? No?! Well exactly, because it sounds stupid.
