I loved this game as a kid. I remember getting stuck on the police station level. How Londoners speak "If u keep flipping your bin lid at me mate! I'll paint your bins red! u hear me son?!"
I'd love a remastered Getaway, not a remake because the story is already stellar. But going around a 4K London that isn't Watch Dogs Legion's version is the dream ☺️
Black Monday was my first when I got it for Christmas one year. Dad knew I played GTA and the guy at EB Games said it was one of the newest open world crime games. I think driving the many great vehicles through London was my most favorite thing about the franchise. I was already aware of and played Driver, True Crime, Scarface and of course GTA. This felt like True Crime turned up a notch in certain areas, but with a far more serious tone. I'd love to see a modern release honestly. EDIT: Scarface would not come out till AFTER I played these games lol getting old
It's genuinely crazy how good this game looks. I've only been to England once and I know this is British architecture. Mainly because Scotland is the same, ye filth, ye tainted us, give us back our mud huts and blue paint!
The getaway games where extremely close to being generational titles, the graphics, story, voice acting where all f, haantastic, had they only improved upon the game mechanics and maybe added some more light hearted "fun"
Honestly the light hearted “fun” was that of Vice City, it’s now rare to see a game like this that was quite serious all round as, well the plot indeed was too. Only chance you saw or heard was with Jake Jolson’s unintentional comedic dialogues and the pedestrians who road rage that broke the tense imo
I laughed so much at this.. relentless. The constant Bill theme playing and slapping got me, cannot believe you made us watch the phone animation for so long 😂😂😂😂
The way you aim in both The Getaway 1 & 2, is to use the tip of your weapon. It acts like a semi-iron sight, but in 3rd person. Every weapon will have the tip of it's barrel in the center of the screen, regardless of where your character is.
@@AHSValor When I played this as a kid I thought the same thing. It was the first game I'd ever played that didn't use a crosshair and felt like I was actually aiming a gun. Now, it's obviously janky but you can tell what they were trying to do, be immersive. Like how you have to lean on walls to recover and you get bloody instead of a health bar. Or the turn signals instead of a minimap. It's actually wrote in the manual (the PS2 version anyways) on how to aim, this is where I originally read it. :)
@@AHSValor EVERY TIME! Especially my favorite thing to do when renting a game from Block Buster was to read the back of the box and manual on the way home. :D I miss those days.
I remember how much of a big deal this game was when it came out cuz it used real locations and the dev team went around and photographed the whole city for reference and textures. I also remember finding out you can lean to get health and it blew my mind. There really was no other game like The Getaway in terms of realism at the time.
I played this so much as a kid. Free Roam mode actually has a truly weird number of completely unique one-off hidden cars which I hunted down relentlessly, and now wonder why on earth they didn't just incorporate into traffic (Since a lot weren't particularly weird)
Took me a long time to work out the healing system in this, I had to get through that whole museum section not knowing how. I also kept hearing about how they got taxi drivers to play this to learn the layout of the city apparently.
I remember watching my dad play this as a young fella and was the first time I saw a man shrug off bullets by leaning on a wall, also still got a getaway sticker on my ps2 from a ps2 magazine back in the day
The Getaway is one of my favorite ps2 games. I remember playing it for hours and just driving around London in the free roam mode, looking for secret cars like the TVR Cerbera. The sequel is cool too, check it out if you haven‘t already!
I finished it not long ago and it was such a trip. One trick to help with driving is to use the right analog stick as the gas, kind of like Halo. Found the driving way more manageable that way.
fun fact: Sleeping dogs was meant to be a sequel to True Crime LA but was changed to be it's own game. The story of Sleeping dogs development is pretty interesting.
I have a big soft spot for this series. In fact, I recently put out a big video covering them. Considering within a month someone else has made something with a similar sentiment that the series needs some kind of comeback, I hope Sony actually takes note and maybe considers doing something with the IP (hopefully not VR.)
I picked a random video to say this on, but: FINALLY, A TH-camR WHERE I ACTUALLY GET ALL THE REFERENCES! (Thank you for every single obscure and non obscure music reference ever)
I've never even played this game but it's so nostalgic to me, the devs really knew London in the 2000s because it's the exact London i remember from my childhood. My dad even drove one of those gold Peuguot 306s when I was little and he crashed it too lmao
remember the famous tech demo's for Getaway 3. wished it had come out. There's still time. I loved this game. my familys old street is on it in islington. this game was way ahead of its time graphically
I will never ever forget that 1st mission in the yardie weed-house and that hip hop beat playing on their ghetto-blaster, also the Saab 900 was a beast in this game
I remember playing this with my little brother. We never beat that freaking museum! That was a blast to see xD I always wanted to visit London after that and i wished a game like this would play in a city in Austria too haha xD Really great video love to see more from you :D
Don't forget - there exist a sequel to first The Getaway, and PSP "Gangs of London" - which used some assets from cancelled Third "The Getaway". Also, some screenplay from cancelled Third "The Getaway" - was been used in VR Worlds, and that story about the heist. How, do i know this (even as a russian gamer?) - it's simply, lead dev of SOHO was said that, in AMA/QnA and also, in interviews - after released of VR Worlds on PS4 Pro/PS VR (First One).
Is this a full walkthrough or just a 1 vid? Also keep up the fantastic work buddy, I can’t wait for the other Harry Potter walkthroughs, your the best❤️
I played this game when I was much too young for it and I made the mistake of playing it in front of my dad who promptly made me stop playing and had my mom return it for some other game. Had a blast with it. I first played it as a demo from back when video game magazines were good and gave out demo disks. I'd stand outside the warehouse from the first mission and steal passing cars, imagining I was a used car salesman who then went in to kill all the gangsters once I was bored. 10/10 game I was a weird kid.
18:33 that's because sleeping dogs is a true crime game, as in it was originally going to be called true crime Hong Kong before they sold the rights to square enix. Edit: since you asked, I can confirm that true crime games both hold up great, New York is absolutely better than LA in every way, because LA has a good story and combat, but everything outside the main story is boring and pointless, it has no reason to be an open world game, new York improved the open world by making the street crimes much more interesting, letting you do drug busts in warehouses and stop bank robberies and interrupt domestic abuse with reasonable force like grenades.
