This totally fixed my issues of '04 silverado starting only when you backed off the key from the full forward position, there was only a 1/16 in that entire rotation that the truck would start but it was reversed.
I replaced the switch and the first time I put it in the gear was in the wrong spot, watched the video again put it in position and snapped it in place, sure felt right. Connected power to it and turned the key to start and it fired immediately. That saved my the pain of buying a key lock cylinder and housing that wasnt needed and going thru more work than required. It took more time to remove covers to gain access than it did replacing the switch and setting the position.
Tutorial is more complete than any others i have seen and they explained the gears position to the teeth.

It's obvious that you are producing these videos with the viewer's point of view in mind-kudos. SO many junker videos out there (fire and forget), so your good work is appreciated.
Beyond lending expertise and advice on video production, I also needed your advice to round out my basic knowledge on maintaining my poor old 2004 work truck. 4wd '04 Trail Blazer. As most are probably aware, GM had a few years where they just kept adding feature upon feature without going back to the deign board to take a look at things like wiring harnesses and repair steps that they were loading up. The 04 Tr Blazer is one of those. I love the Trail Blazer for several reasons, some of which are no longer valid, like an All American made truck. Phtt! And, they took the bail out money when they didn't need it while maintaining those CEO salaries and golden parachutes. Fine to pay a CEO high bucks, but only when they earn it. A CEO that does not suffer when his company suffers is not a company man but just another one looking out for Numero Uno. They should take a hint from DJT.
The part that I bought from you was a perfect fit and this video was a huge help in the installation . Thank you for taking the time to do these how to videos.
This was a super video. It even mentions the need for the hard-to-find E- 5 inverted Torx socket to get the screws out of the bottom of the steering column shroud. I changed the switch on my daughter's '04 Trailblazer without a hitch. It was actually slightly easier as I did not have to remove the top half of the steering column shroud. Had I used the Chilton's manual instructions, I would have spent all day removing unnecessary parts. Bravo 1aauto!

This video (the first hit on my google search of "ABS/Brakes lights on and no AC") was the perfect answer to my problem. My 2004 Trail Blazer had slightly different dash components but I got the part and figured out how to get to the switch. I didn't have to take the top part of the wheel shroud off or take the upper dash piece out-- primarily because the dash encompasses from the radio to the left door-- so I made it work just working with the bottom piece off. Nice fix it yourself for only the cost of the part and some patient work. Thanks!

2002 GMC Envoy
I had ABS, Brake, Service 4WD lights come on the dash. Also the a/c blower fan wasn't working and the 4WD wasn't engaging. I went and bought a new ignition switch and installed it. It worked! No warning lights are displayed. 4WD & fan are working fine.

Jalen, there is an electric solenoid that should do the same thing, it senses if the vehical is in park before it lets you turn the key to the steering lock position. In the case here, the battery was disconnected for the repair, so he used the manual override, and pushed that release. If you need to do this when the battery is connected, you may have a bad solonid, or in some cases a wire may be broke near the shifter that goes to the park switch, this is common on a grand prix with a console shifter. There should be an access hole under the steering column that allows you to slide slide a screw driver, allen wrench or something similar into the opening to depress the pin and turn the key to a the final steering lock positoin and remove the key. Many people report this problem as I can no remove my key (in fact they can't turn the key to the final steering lock position). I assume the interlock with the parking selector is to prevent you from turning the key into a steeling lock mode while the car is in motion (read accident) , the interlock requires the vehical to be in park, before the key can be moved to the final steering lock position. Imagine you have a stuck accelerator and need to turn the engine off in an emergency when driving, you would not want to turn the key to steering lock position, you just wish to turn the engine off and still have steering, this interlock protects you from yourself in that situation.

That did the trick! first ime in slipped the switch in it didn't start. I took the switch out and saw that the wheel was just out and had to be rotated one tooth closer to the left. Also when the switch was out I put the key in and rotated the key cylinder ot start position and back to make sure it was right. Put the switch in and wal la it worked.. thank you for your very informative video.

Watched several videos, yours is the best.
You don't need to remove the dash trim or the top piece off the steering column to do this job (so the E5 "bit" is not even needed). Also you should specify on the tools list that it's actually the E5 torq SOCKET used to remove the screw that holds the top of the steering column on because I argued for 2 days with my mom over her telling me it was a regular bit, She just couldn't understand that the one for this screw is the female socket type not the male bit type and the Worst part is that top piece don't even interfere with removing this part and installing a new one so for people who don't own that socket it's just a waste of time and money.

Thanks for this video. It helped a not so mechanical guy repair his 2007 trailblazer. Worked great. However, now my cruize wont work for some reason.... any thoughts on what I might have done wrong? I didnt think anything I did would affect the cruise.

I have to replace my whole ignition new key and everything depends inside I think it's damaged sometimes it won't start... won't make any noise at all... So sometimes I had to gradually massage the key inside of the ignition to realign the pins so basically I need to replace the main ignition if that's what it sounds like it might be
Ppreciate the video. Installed with no problem and it started. But the next day she didn't want to start, no power. Watched your guys other video on the megafuse becuz I tried to Jumpstart it. Replaced aswell and nothing. Sigh

Pop off top screws on bottom cover. Pull it forward. Tilt wheel up. Pull off bottom cover on wheel. Pull out switch. Replace switch.

I bought a 2002 blazer I was having problems with getting the key cylinder to the start position you had to wiggle it around and it would go into start position so I decided to go and buy a new one and put it in but then it wouldn't go into the off position and it has never go into the access position with the old or the new key switch so I pulled the ignition switch down and kinda messed with that and put it back up in there now it works great the steering wheel lock and it starts up and and the key cylinder shuts off there is still no access on it but since I did all of that now my battery light stays on with the key off and the gear selector light stays on also all the time now if I start it the battery light goes off like it should I don't get it lol any ideas ?
Is there a video on how to remove the ignition cylinder? I lowered the switch from the cylinder and the key still wont turn. i cant find an access hole to the release button for the cylinder. there is also an electrical plug on top of the casing that holds the cylinder that looks like it wont come out unless the key is forward. any help please.

Question for 1A Auto is the switch that causing the vehicle to randomly shut off going down the road or is it the actual ignition that the key goes into??
Super easy fix. Although I have an issue it seems. The lock cylinder has just a tiny tad of play. Did I not move the tooth back far enough on the switch? Or is my Lock cylinder going bad too? It locks. But I can make the battery light come on without the key in the ignition by moving the cylinder just a tad.. I would think this would drain my battery. Any ideas? Thanks for the video.

I thought my Silverado ignition switch was bad. Actually, the plastic gears inside the switch were not aligned properly. I took the key out, disconnected the closest connectors, and began to move the gears.The first time I moved the gear and the dash lights went on, so no, that wasn't the right one. I rotated the gear until I got nothing on my dash--no lights. There were two areas where that happened. The first one didn't work. The second one worked and all was well. These plastic gears rotate and click into several positions.

will this cure a passlock problem? my trailblazer starts the shuts off after about 2 or 3 seconds. the symbol with a car and lock blinks 3 times and goes out. vehicle will not stay running
+Dale Higgins You may want to pull the code if there is one. It may be a battery going dead in the ignition key, or it might also be a crank shaft sensor going bad. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
What issues were customer encountering that lead to you finding the ignition switch was the fault?
I have a 2004 Envoy were the gauges act weird, all staying at a 2 o’clock position. Then Dropping slowly, with a no start condition.
Randomly, then gauges will function normally, and the truck will have the ability to start.
Any suggestions?
You figure out your problem? I have a similar issue with an '04 Rainier.
The pin you push to get the key in lock position why did you have to click it after you changed the switch
So the video was very helpful. However my envoy has a chip that's connected just below the dash under the steering wheel. If that's been removed the car will not start. Ignition kill basically. So if I change my ignition switch will that also need to be replaced or will the new ignition be able to communicate with hat feature

1A auto, My envoy starts fine, but when turning back to lock position, it will not turn all the way back and it causes the battery light to stay on. I have to crank it back just right and it powers off. is that a switch issue or cylinder issue? Thanks

Will replacing this switch have any effect to the cruise control? Reason being when I start my vehicle in the morning and go to use my cruise control it won’t work but if I pull over to the side of the road and shut the vehicle off and then turn it back on and start driving again, then it works. curious if the switch is the issue or if the multi function turn signal combination switch is the issue.
+Jeff LeMay Thanks for checking us out! Typically if there is an issue with the cruise control it is the combination switch that is the main cause. When there is an electrical issue it is possible another part is causing it but that would need the vehicle to be diagnosed if the combination switch is changed and the issue still persists.
hello I was wondering what is that "lock pin" that you had to push is called exactly because mine won't let me turn my key back unless I push it myself. also how do I fix this problem?

I have a 2006 Envoy Denali w/5.3 engine. The starter will stick in the On position unless I pull the key back to Run. When It does that, it will not start afterwards for about ten minutes usually. Is there a timeout built into the Computer that causes this? Is this still an ignition switch problem?

I agree with 80, i just did this and all that stuff you removed was unnecessary also a slick way to justify taking more time charging people more for unnecessary labor u can try to justify it but i don't buy it, this is how people get scammed and milked and over charged, yet the actual replacement was helpful.
