Ralph Tresvant (lead singer) was partially chosen for the group because he sounded like MJ. But it’s ever more noticeable when he was younger (before puberty). His singing voice as a child in their earlier hits was very reminiscent of young MJ from Jackson 5.
New Edition is one of the best groups in music history been around since the early 80's . New edition is unique as each member of the group has going multi-platinum as New Edition and on their own

This was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They didn’t do New Jack Swing. They had a completely different sound…their own sound.
What's even better than this 20yr old video is them LIVE TODAY they KILL this same routine (and every other they've ever done), all 6 of them still!!
All 6 went on to have great solo or "group w/in the group" (BBD w/ hits like Poison, Do Me, Smile Again & I thought it was me) , Heads of State and RBRM) careers. Ironically Ralph Tresvant (the one who sounds lime MJ) sadly had the least successful solo career 😢 Thankfully as recent as this year all 6 have worked past the tussles of the past are ready to tour and make new music as New Edition again 🙌🏽
