    AP always impresses guys that like watches and gets their attention because they are looking at every guys wrist
    Rolex impresses more ladies and gents on first glance cause of its name recognition.
    The gold however might turn some people off because its seen as a little flashy.

      @docmc6557 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is the reason why I'm hesitating to buy it, I don't want to look like I'm being flashy but then I love the color combination with the blue :/

      +mguchi Yep.
      And guys Audemars Is very popular in the hip hop/rap circles, community. For OG's (original gangstas) and legit men.
      Rouleks will be flashy as fuck but still awesome. I feel gold is way too attention seeker, I want to be sleek. And thsoe who know watches will be mirring AP like hell. I yearn for those bros.

    It's interesting. I find the Audemars Piguet Offshore far better looking than a diver watch. I saw a guy wearing one recently on the subway, I noticed that he has a great watch immediately. Granted, I made a mistake at first thinking it was a Vacheron Constantin Overseas chronograph, but no, it was AP. It was big, prominent, in a good way. There's nothing quiet or discrete about this watch.
    Gold Rolex diver? Would fit Ron Jeremy quite well :)

    • @gmansplit
      @gmansplit 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Mason Dyer It's really not that crazy. Keep in mind that some people see these pieces as more than just fashion accessories. They see them as an extension of their personality, similarly to how car guys see their cars. Also keep in mind that these watches hold their values tremendously well. Someone making just 100k/year could buy one of these for 15k, sell it 5 years later for say 12-13k, and have an amazing timepiece in the interim for just 2-3000 dollars, which is perfectly affordable for someone even just making a relatively low 100k salary. And if you are talking about say a doctor making ~250k, it's really not a significant expense at all, and most people really don't see doctors as that rich or high class.

  • @mikkirurk1

    Both are very good watches, I`d rather have another AP then Rolex, but in the end it`s a matter of personal preferences. Golden Rolex is definitely a noisy and "look at me I`m rich" watch, but sometimes this is what people are looking for when buying these. IMHO there is more taste and elegance in AP.

    I'm considering buying either the AP royal oak offshore solid rose or the 40mm day date platinum. I know they are two different wrist games so I'd like to know your pick on this.

    • @myss3422
      @myss3422 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Originally I was trying to pick between the Daytona platinum and the solid rose gold offshore with the rose bracelet, but since I already have a Daytona and my collection is not that big I don't think its logical to have two of the same models yet. And where I live Patek does not have a authorized dealer or I would have not even thought about this, so with all this said which one would you go for? Day Date 40mm platinum or the solid rose gold with the rose bracelet offshore Ref #26470OR.OO.1000OR.01?

    • @Crmjewelers
      @Crmjewelers  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would go with the AP rose gold. Ultimately the AP royal oak chrono 41mm

      Got the AP yesterday and I am left speechless.

    • @myss3422
      @myss3422 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got the Royal Oak Offshore 42 mm Ref #26470OR.OO.1000OR.01. I am certain the Royal Oak movements are not in-house, however the offshore could be in-house. CRM Jewelers might know more on this topic. I was more into Rolex when I started buying watches but I'm slowly moving on other brands. For my next watch I might go for either a Patek or Vacheron. Only downfall to Patek for me is they don't have an authorized dealer in Iran, so for every service I have to take it to Dubai which is inconvenient.

      +CRM Jewelers woh woh woh. Rolex movements are a polished turd. Yeah they work but nothing compares to a hand made movement. No comparison. Maybe if the video was to make a point about how much more expensive an AP is to a 2002-2004 rolex 16618 is, that would be a video. But comparing them to each other? No comparison. Compare it with with like a Vacheron overseas MAYBE, or the 5980 from Patek..... Man.

    Ford invented the car, Benz the engine. Are they "the best" car now? So why are people arguing that AP is comparable to Rolex. You can have a Bugatti or Ferrari in Singapore or London, and you won't die if you have a decent Jaguar or Audi. The only difference are the looks, the sound, the quality of the build. Just respect both. Anyways Rolex did not invent anything, they are just the first to be "certified" on certain technologies, if you really have balls, get some patents like PP, AP on their manufacturing quality, materials, technologies.
    In my memory, no one I know, the 9 owners has ever went back into an AD once to repair anything on an AP, 20, 30 years into using it, not even when they forgot to send for lubrication or replace wear. They did for their Omegas, Rolex and IWCs

    Although I like the look of a gold Rolex, I hate drawing attention to myself. If I choose to wear gold, I prefer white gold. The Rolex Submariner is a beautiful watch, but I'd rather have it in SS. As to Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, unlike Rolex it's very costly to have serviced. It also seems to me that the AP lacks the robustness of a Rolex. Nice watch, though.

    • @twoweeledsoto6072

      +Teachering I have heard the exact same things. Not a robust watch, and expensive to service. I just went in and tried an AP. Not something I'm licking my chops over. But we all know, that can change over time. I really want the Panerai, but have avoided it because it just doesn't seem as service oriented, or robust as Rolex. I do bump watches and go into water with them. It just didn't work for me, yet!

    I prefer the Royal Oak design over just about anything else. The octagonal bezel with the screws is the key to its appeal. I'm no fan of the funkier designs they've created with it though. Some are just ugly. A watch like this deserves an understated beauty that compliments it, not some tacky looking bling. In a perfect world, I'd match the bezel & strap of their new Perpetual Calendar black ceramic with the minimalist blue face of the 14790ST. Oh... and make it 36mm. Perfection never exists though.

    Couldn't agree more, excellent!. I own three rolex watches (my wife has one, from these four two were bought from you guys) so my next purchase is definitely an AP RO blue or white dial not necessarily the chrono as long as is a RO, although the white gold Daytona is still a main target for me so then it comes the problem. Should I spend 16k in a RO or safe a little more and spend 25k in the Daytona??? Your advise is kindly appreciated.

    CRM: By watching the video, I think you buy watches because of price and not about the technology used in making the watch. IDK if it's clear enough.Could someone educate me or us why APs are very expensive? Are APs good value or you're just paying for a brand?

    • @coloursoftherainbow8399
      @coloursoftherainbow8399 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The watches they make are of very good quality, but off course your paying for the brand as well. The watches sell for a fraction of the price it takes to manufacture one. Its kind of like a woman buying a diamond ring or necklace, its a bit of a head scratcher if you pose the question 'Is it good value.' Its about the fact that diamonds are rare, but a fake diamond on a ring will look comparable, they don't actually serve a practical purpose so its hard to say its a good value. Watches at that level are not just about telling time they are worn as jewellery although they do have a functional purpose. The most important thing is that the brand makes watches of a very high quality and your not paying for a substandard product but after that its all marketing and name. Tag Heuer has a reputation for making some of their watches to a substandard level and selling them for thousands.

    Really not into the Offshores. If going RO it’s gotta be 39 or 41mm. Date, chrono, SS or PM it doesn’t matter. That said a gold sub is an iconic piece. Not the watch for formal attire, but a great sports watch.

    Okay, so I'd like to get your opinions since you guys seem to know watches. I'm having a hard time choosing between a Zenith Striking 10th or a Rolex Milgauss Blue dial Green crystal.
    Both are good, both look good... I just don't know.
    Which do you think is a more solid watch? I don't care too much about resale, as I don't plan on selling back any of the watches.

      Why not a Rolex Explorer II with date? instead of Milguass- by the way Rolex came out with the Milguass- during the cold war it supposedly can not become magnetized and a lot of doctors wear them! I just purchased the massive new Sea Dweller but I got a 10 inch wrist so it fits me and I love it. I replaced a plain Explorer.

    In my opinion, there are always two factors to any item you are collecting. There is the 'wow!' factor, which is apparent to everyone and anyone, and then there is the cool factor which only applies to people who know a lot about the item and it's history. To give a car example a brand new Lamborghini may have a pretty high wow factor and someone who knows nothing about cars will prefer it to a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO every time. These people probably have no idea what Le Mans is though or the history of cars, their rarity, what they represented at the time... that is why the high end Lamborghini may go for $4 million while the old Ferrari goes for $60 million. I find that collectors who really love the items they are collecting and not just trying to impress people appreciate the cool factor far more, seeing as they have developed a fine appreciation for the items and they understand how significant their piece is. With watches it's pretty similar; someone who has money and class won't want the average person to know how much his watch is worth. I find that people are more impressed when you don't flaunt everything you have in the first five minutes of a conversation; there is no mystery that way. I admit women will probably be more impressed by a Rolex at first but if you get to know her and maybe one day she comes across an AP you were wearing and finds out it's worth 5 times as much as that other guys Rolex she will be more than intrigued. This is true for any asset or talent you may have; it also works well if you know a different language and just begin speaking it after a few months of knowing someone. It's all about the mystery and charm, and an AP has way more of that than a Rolex.

    • @Crmjewelers
      @Crmjewelers  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @sprig6043
      @sprig6043 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I wouldn't say Rolex is tacky or overrated but they've had a lot and continue to have a heavy media presence. They are of quality and brilliant craftsmanship hence they lose less value on the pre-owned market. Plus their history 150 years plus is solid. There signature pieces are sort after in all decades but what I think tends to happen is that people who don't follow the watch market gravitate to Rolex as opposed to searching for a Rolex rival. It's like seeing everyone who don't know about headphones walking around with a pair of Dre Beats. The only thing with Dre Beats is that they are tacky, have no solid history and are overrated. !

    Hi CRM Jewelers the only thing I feel you missed on this video is servicing costs, AP servicing is horrendously expensive compared to Rolex. that should always be a factor, especially in a second hand purchase.

    • @Crmjewelers
      @Crmjewelers  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right Matthew Hedges. It is more expensive to service AP than Rolex. That is why I mentioned on the video that the watch is really not for the inexperienced watch collector. Since we run a luxury watch store ourselves and have a lot of experience with high end watches, we never send the watch straight to AP for servicing, which is extremely expensive. We use watchmakers who have serviced these watches for over 30 years. At the end of the day, the quality of service is better and the servicing costs are a lot lower. Thank you so much for your comment.

    Erik I like your videos, you often hit the point but your tastes and advices are very limitated to america market. I am italian and here nobody, except a mafia godfather would wear a gold rolex sub at a wedding, it is very awful. Even the AP ROO is a bad choice for an elegant situation, maybe the normal AP RO slim could fit the situation but in my opion if we are talking about forma events you need a dress watch like JLC Reverso, JLC Master Control, Rolex Cellini in we want to stay with Rolex and many others that can range from few houndreds dollars to thousands. I wear a gold zenith stellina, manual wind, ultra slim on a very elegant lizard brown strap, it is cheap compared to these watches but i think it looks much more elegant. this is just my opionio. Good work bro

    There's all kinds of ways to impress someone, but something more substantive than what watch you wear is generally going to be needed, even among watch aficionados. Justin Bieber can wear a a $40,000 Hublot, but I have zero respect for him. Show me your character, not your watch.

My 20 year old half gold sub has gained value. I’ll have to keep the scratch magnet & use it twice a year & spend 2k servicing it every 5 years
