About the show:
The nationwide search for the next superstar kicked off in August, as the Idol Bus traveled covering 23 cities across the country. Auditioning was made easier than ever as hopefuls also had the opportunity to submit audition videos online as well as via select social media platforms using an official tag The Next Idol cultivating over 300,000 posts. Also for the first time in “American Idol” history hopefuls had the opportunity to audition through a livestream platform.
Helping to determine who America will ultimately vote for to become the next singing sensation are music industry forces and superstar judges Luke Bryan Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Host and producer Ryan Seacrest will return as host of the beloved series.

I would be obsessed with American idol if Steve Perry was one of the three judges for American Idol!
Austin Rodarte I read an article one time, where Steve Perry said he would never be a judge on idol or any of the other talent shows. Randy Jackson asked him several times to be a guest judge. Steve said he didn't have it in him to tell someone they aren't good enough for the business. Especially after being told no so many times himself. I think it would be amazing if he did though, or as a mentor
Autumn Gill Thank you for that information but yeah you are absolutely right! That's what I believed why Steve Perry has never judged for any singing competitions. He is such a humble, kind and prudent person. Which is another reason why I admire him not just as a singer but by his overall personality. It's very rare to see Steve Perry on TV or anywhere due to him living a reclusive life!
I read that too. I don’t know why he feels that way, he would’ve been excellent on Idol when it first came out. Steve is a perfectionist, and he’s also a thoughtful and articulate. But I think he detests any role in the public eye.
He’s too good to even be a judge on that show .

Steve Perry is a class act all around. I'm 58 years old-remember listening to Journey back in the seventies. After watching interviews regarding his personal life-the loss he suffered have that much more respect for Steve.
A lovely young woman with a lot of talent, and the incredible Steve Perry. What a very kind and generous man he is. So gracious. A true statesman in what is often a very vicious business. How nice was it of him to encourage her. Wow. Just wow. Always so classy Steve. I’ve been a fan for more than 40 years. God bless you.

This was great! This girl looked so surprised and so happy! So good that Steve is making appearances like this so randomly! Hopefully we get new music soon and more! Been a fan for over 35 years! Lots of loyalty out there in the world for this man! Wish he would be a judge in the Voice or American Idol, but yeah like he said before he would not. I don't blame him. There was NOBODY with the full package that Steve Perry brought to Journey in 1977: The melodic, soothing, soaring tenor. The charisma, charm, energy, story telling and stage presence. BEAUTIFUL person and personality. AMAZING GIFTED songwriter. He wrote with JC the most popular downloaded song in the history of music, which is AMAZING 🤯. Dont Stop Believin could be labeled the Anthem of Rock and Roll 😉
What an incredible nice surprise it was for Steve Perry to show up in the audience on American Idol!!! I thought Gabby did a really great job on the song DSB, and Steve Perry gave her a very genuine compliment about her singing performance of DSB. I am very glad that Steve Perry appeared on the AI Show, He sure made me happy!!!

I don’t think it was a good idea for her to put the mic out for the audience to sing either. Since it’s a singing competition where SHE is supposed to be the one singing.
@@brittanylamote3665 I agree. You do that when you are an established act, not when you are trying to win a competition where you are being judged on your singing ability. I understand that putting the mic out to the audience might show some level of stagecraft, but it also registers as vocal laziness to some audience members - a way of 'saving ' the voice. Best not done during a competition.

@@hanisrockz Yes, he was very gracious. He could easily have been very critical as he has a remarkable ear and could easily hear that she struggled with the song. It's also true that the issues that come up when a woman tries to belt this song are somewhat different from what Steve experienced as a singer. He may not have wanted to get into all of that with her. He was a total gentleman.

OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! I can't believe that Steve Perry was on American Idol, his my idol! I would do anything to meet Steve Perry, I'm one of his biggest fans. I just love Steve Perry so very much, I fell in love with him. I listen to his two solo albums every day!
That was painful to watch. Especially after seeing Steve Perry and journey several times. Actually met Steve Perry on the evolution tour I was in a band and we got backstage passes to be honest I thought his voice was studio manufactured autotune he was sitting in the back room strumming on the bass with a cup of tea warming up I was totally blown away he was so cool. Ever since then he’s been my favorite. My wife worked at the ticket office on their last tour I got front row seat tickets to the raised on radio tour. My sister wanted to sell her ticket to go see Van Halen I told her I would buy her a Van Halen ticket she was going to see journey. To this day Steve Perry by far is her favorite singer. But I will never forget as long as I live after he saying faithfully he stood there with tears streaming down his face. I looked over at my wife and said he just lost sherry, his mom just died. It’s over. A few months later I heard he walked off the raised on radio tour in Alaska. He was just done. I understand.
This is a great post. Thanks for sharing. Few people really understand the magnitude of Steve Perry's talent. He was on a very rarified plane as a singer. He had damn nigh perfect intonation live. I heard him live many times. During his prime years with Journey there was no singer alive that could do what he could do in the live setting with such incredible ease. It was like his voice just poured out of him like water. He was the best of the best live singers. That was what really drew me to him.
