This concert was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Tuesday, September 16th, 1986, according to a New York Times article published on September 18th, 1986. The Concert was recorded with television cameras, and a program was prepared for broadcast on PBS stations, airing on October 1st, 1986, under the title, "Pavarotti at Madison Square Garden: The Silver Jubilee Concert," so-called as it was a commemoration of the 25th anniversary of his operatic debut. His debut occurred on April 29th, 1961, at the Teatro Municipale in Reggio Emilia, Italy, where he played Rodolfo in the Puccini opera "La bohème."
This is my favorite recording of Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma, an aria from the final act of Puccini's opera "Turandot." Here, he held the final notes longer than almost any other recording I can find -- by a long shot! The only comparable ending I've found would be from the 1982 romantic comedy film "Yes, Giorgio." In that movie, he didn't hold the CHE for quite as long, but held the final RO a bit longer, thereby holding the whole word "Vinceró" for about a second longer than he did in this New York performance.
However, I feel like there is a much greater emotional impact here, in holding the high note on CHE for what feels like an eternity, longer than any other performance, such that the unfortunate audience could not contain themselves, and poured out adulation upon him, even as he continued belting out the final note for another eternity. And that big smile at the end really says it all!
I think I have probably listened to nearly every recorded "Nessun Dorma" performance by Pavarotti.
I have gone through more performances than I can even count.
This particular performance is absolutely exquisite.
The final "Vincero" is probably one of his finest moments.

Definitely a special performance 😉 He's in full control of his voice, from the first to the last note, everything pours out effortlessly, the high B seems to reach the stratosphere. In addition the close-up captures Luciano's facial expressions in a perfect way and triggers strong emotions. 🌟 🔝 👑 💗

We have to admit that the SONG itself brings the emotions too, not just the singer. I just am in love with Nessun Dorma. 🥰

Opera is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, most people will only be familiar with this song because of its connection with sport, but won't have a clue and are not interested what the songs called etc.
But there is not a single person born before 1980 that does not know the name Luciano Pavarotti and this video is a perfect example why. 👏👏
I saw Luciano perform ten times, every one in his absolute prime, and each experience was indescribable. Still, after all these years I still get tears in my eyes whenever I hear his voice!

I think this is Pavarotti ‘s finest performance. He was in such strong voice he could have sung all night! I do not understand why this concert has not yet been released officially on dvd / blu ray.
