I've never been bothered by npcs not having teams of 6. I mean, they live in this world of monsters with massive powers. Could we as humans realistically all care for 6 huge magical pets at once? I have respect for people who know their limits with pets.
But not when their whole job is to take care of them and raise them. It's unacceptable for an elite 4 member or late game gym leader to not have 6 pokemon. It'd be like a coach only fielding 4 players in a game of soccer. It's blatantly throwing the game. I think it was in X&Y where the 8th gym leader had 3 pokemon. An absolute joke in universe
@@sanhakim1335but also why have 6 equally good Pokemon when you can have 4 great Pokemon. This isn't soccer where you need a specific amount to actually play a game all you need are really good mon that work well like look at Raihan
That was how it was before gen 6, Since most people's highest level pokemon is their starter, they would be used more and thus be higher level than everyone else. If you didnt level up your team purposely, you'd have an overleveled starter that destroys every battle😂
The EXP share in the 3DS games isn't so bad since you still had the option to turn it off, but when they made it mandatory in the Switch Pokémon games, that's where it became a problem, because now they removed the option to let the player train other Pokémon. Maybe if you could fight with more than one Pokémon at a time for every match, then fine, but you can't!
@@jmurray1110 I disagree. I think the bosses(gym leaders, rival fights, etc.) are too simple to discourage that. There are exceptions like Whitney's Miltank and the Triplet Restaurant gym, but most fights are so easy that you can breeze through them by spamming a strong move.
I'm only disagreeing with this because Raichu is my favourite Pokémon and if it got more attention people will start calling it overrated, and I don't want that label on my child
@@ThePokemonKage I get that. I will take it staying in major roles, where Pikachu can stay being always a background character. Doesn't have to show up much, but at least one protagonist role at least if not more. If I ever get a movie or something going then I would but knowing game freak you're safe.
@@QuasarBuasarEeveeTheUziFan idk, but considering people hate the idea that if pikachu evolves they would leave the show says a lot about that. I assume it would be that this is a radical change of mascot? or main pokemon it might make people upset.
Not sure if it’s a hot take, but I always hated how the future paradox forms started with “iron” when the past forms had very different names, especially since there’s so many different types of metals. Imagine names like Cobalt Crown, Titanium Valiant, Steel Treads, they could’ve had insanely cool names but nope, just iron.
Someone on Reddit came up with the names 'Hydro Bundle', 'Cyber Jugulis', 'Magnet Hands', 'Solar Moth', 'Mecha Thorns', and 'Laser Valiant'. While 'Cyber Jugulis' and 'Laser Valiant' would exceed the 12-character limit, this set of names would be far better in my opinion.
Hot Take: Object Mons are NOT lazy, they're actually really creative and I'm tired of people treating them like they aren't. Living ice cream cones and haunted tea cups are way more interesting than yet another bird, dog, or rat Pokemon.
I 100% believe every single game should be locked to only having that gen's Pokémon in the region to catch until the post-game. Black and White was goated for that. Nothing annoys me more than seeing cross-generational Pokémon filling up spots in trainers' teams and the tall grass in what are supposed to be showcases of the new region's Pokémon
@@klatchabobby I don't quite agree with this because they've been adding less pokemon in the newer gens. It would be fine with the older gens cause they were adding +100 pokemon, but since gen 6 they've struggled to reach 80 new mons. Stretching that between 18 types would be too limiting for the modern pokemon games.
@@persian338 While it's impossible to know for certain, I imagine it wouldn't have gone quite so bad if half of the Pokemon they introduced weren't obvious replacements for the Pokemon they were removing.
Most people use new Pokémon anyways, there’s already 1000+ Pokémon, makes more sense to use old Pokémon that haven’t gotten a chance to shine instead of new ones
I disagree, I like having a mix of old Pokemon with the new, because it can, for example, put Pokemon that you couldn't catch until near the end of the game (when you have no real room left to train a new party member) near the start or middle, IE Pawniard, a pretty late-game Pokemon in Unova, appearing in the mid-game of X and Y, or a bunch of past pseudo-legendaries having their first forms catchable at a plateau just south of Mesagoza in Scarlet and Violet. I do definitely think that the new Pokemon should be front and center, particularly in trainer teams, and that they should introduce more new Pokemon per generation, closer to 100 or above instead of 80-90.
Hot Take: Triple, Rotation, and Inverse battles should've become a bigger thing and been a competitive format. They spice up battles and with new gimmicks, would make for some insane metas.
I feel that way about all the starters or heck just new evos in general when they compare them to fakemon images they've seen. Reminds me of when someone said that Gamefreak and the Pokemon Company will never live up to people's imaginations.
@@falconfyre9286 the four legs thing isn’t really an issue I had with Mewscarada, my biggest gripe is that it’s literally a 3rd attempt at ripping off greninja on a gameplay level like Cinderace which makes the Pokémon feel boring compared to the other starters in the series. Not only is it dull but it kinda feels like a wasted opportunity to Mewscarada’s theme when abilities like magic bounce or prankster would be more suitable to it being a trickster magician.
3:29 This hot take would have been better if the person said that they wish we had a trainer in each route with a team of 6, kinda like a challenge after beating every trainer in the route. This is very similar to what the Alola games do, where there are routes with trainers that only battle you if you defeat every trainer in that route.
I know a lot of people might disagree with me, but I think the sinnoh cross-gen evolutions are really well designed and overall good pokemon. I especially don't understand the hate electivire, magmortar, and rhyperior get.
If Charizard wasn’t the only Starter in Sword and Shield without DLC or Home (and if the Johto, Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos Starters were in Sword and Shield), then I wouldn’t hate Charizard. But that’s not the case. Charizard will forever be the worst Pokémon (in my opinion) for Sword and Shield alone.
I don't know how hot this take is, but usum should of been just one game instead of two. The necrozma fusions felt kind of unnecessary and having one version with ultra nercozma on the cover would of been much cooler. Maybe it could of been just called pokemon ultra or something.
About the new Pokémon in new games hot take- I think gym leaders and major characters should have Pokémon from their regions as most of their team and aces rather than using primarily older gen Pokémon
Saying pikachu is an overrated Pokémon is like saying Link is an overrated Zelda character Charizard isn’t overrated, it would be more that he’s overexposed by TPC
Disregard any take that uses the word overrated. If they just say their opinion, thats perfectly valid, but using overrated translates to "THING is popular but i dont like THING but i also dont have a reason i can put into words so im gonna say this to try to add some kind of objective weight to my opinion despite there not being a tangible scale to rate things"
12:47 I feel like the push back of another type is exactly because of what you said. A new Pokemon type would be cool but the cool factor is all we're really doing it for. The matchups and overall type ideas either need stretches of the century to work or don't actually work to balancing types out.
I can't remember who but I recently watched a video were someone argued why we *don't* need a new type, and it really boils down to having to rework every other type around it, when we could easily just rebalance the types and mechanics we already have to deal with any "broken" or "underpowered" types, like how hail was changed to snow, which was actually a huge buff for Ice types
Most likely it’s JPRPokeTrainer98 who you’re referring to, since he made a video last week arguing the infeasibility of another Pokemon type. Again, focus on re-balancing the existing types rather than further complicating the delicate balance with another type that also needs to justify its existence with new Pokemon or changing the types of old Pokemon
Need VS Want for Pokemon has always been a big thing, its hard to tell if people truly know the difference between those 2 words. We don't need new Pokemon, we want it
Hot take: Trials are far more interesting than gyms, especially the totem pokemon battles. I feel like totem battles require a bit more strategy than any gym leader could. For gym battles, you really only need like one or two pokemon to sweep their team. This isn't always the case for Totem battles since the Totem Pokemon will generally always have something up their sleeve, making them a bit more of a challenge than gyms imo
Ngl I definitely enjoyed solving the trial puzzles in Pokemon moon and defeating all of the trial pokemon more than I did in any gym from any previous game and the totem pokemon can be really fun and challenging as well as being great rewards for completing the trial Anyways I'd like to say this again. F totem lurantis
Lukewarm take: Normal-type is underrated. Having no super effective STAB is a small price to pay for having basically no weaknesses and access to practically every move in the game, plus some of the most powerful moves in the game as STAB. Also, you get some incredibly strong pokemon, like Snorlax, Slaking, Blissey, or the entire Porygon line besides Porygon itself.
@@yan7821 Slaking has the same base stats total as Kyogre and Groudon and one of the highest Attack stats in the game. If you can get rid of Truant, which really isn't that hard, especially in doubles, it is an absolute menace.
I love the exp share, definitely. it makes grinding much less of a chore. but we should be allowed to turn it off if we want to, for various reasons. I've found that even if i don't do any extra grinding, with the exp share my pokemon get overlevelled pretty easily and i could control that by turnjng it off in gens 6 and 7... not anymore though
This might not be a hot take, but it's a fairly rare one: Pokemon is greedy for not having multiple save files. Every other RPG under the sun has at least 3 by now, it should be the same with Pokemon. But then people wouldn't have a reason to buy both versions, which would make TPC less money, so they don't.
On the switch you can make multiple profiles so you have technically multiple save files. Maybe on the 3DS they could have done it and didn't but idk if they had enough space for it on the DS.
@@s0lsticefr4 1. Not an excuse, you should be able to do it in game like you can in every other game. 2. If every other DS game can do it, it's not a space issue, it's a Gamefreak and greed issue.
Hot Take: Object based pokemon (basically pokemon that aren't animalistic or humanoid in any way and are based more on objects) like klefki, Garbodor, vanilluxe, voltorb lines and more are underatted, never understood the community's hate for them, I mean, I don't see anyone hating on my boy Aegislash?
4:52 I to this day don't know why Pokemon in the Switch era is slowly just removing options from their games. It's the same thing with set mode not being a thing anymore despite it being in literally every game prior. What, does Game Freak think kids are so stupid they'll find a way to these options, turn them off/on by accident and struggle for the rest of the game. Why do they keep taking simple options away.
40% of those Black Shinies you showed are Pokemon that are black normally and that isn't what the shiny changes, I don't think Pikipek's butt being black on both forms counts. Also; Purrserker? Runerigus? Salandit? Alolan Golem?? TOXAPEX??? Most of these aren't Black Shinies at all!
@@sinnohperson8813I thought it was supposed to be a swordfish. Her fins look way too “fish-like” and her nose is way too sharp for her to be a dolphin.
My hot take; the Fairy Type made Dragon Types too easy to counter. I get that Dragon needed to be balanced a bit, but they went too far by making Fairy not only Super Effective against Dragon, but also immune to it. It’s hard to still see Dragon as a rare, exotic, and powerful Type when it can so easily be countered by a Type that’s actually fairly common. I’d be ok with it if Fairy just resisted Dragon, but making them immune is too much imo.
My "hot" take: Get rid of Freeze Dry and just make Ice super-effective or even neutral to Water. It gives a check to Water(and even a buff if a Water type faces another Water type), and gives Ice a buff. Win win
Better option: give Ice another resistance besides itself. Ice is, without question, the single worst defensive type in the game. It needs something, anything, to offset its 4 weaknesses.
Honestly I think that Ice should resist Ground. It's already super effective against it, and plus, we'd have another check for one of the best offensive types in the game.
That's not a hot take at all, in my opinion. You see people talk about how the ice type should be given some sort of advantage over the water type ALL THE TIME when they talk about ways to buff the ice type
One I've had all the way back since gen 1: mythical pokemon should be obtainable in game by completing certain tasks like completing the pokedex. Back in the day, the only legit way you could obtain mythicals like Mew and Celebi were from in person events that only happened for a couple days in major cities. So many of us more rural kids couldn't go, so we missed out. Having them obtainable in game would have made it far more fair.
I actually like joke forms and evolutions like alolan dugtrio and dundunsparce. I see people talking about how much they HATE these Pokémon for being silly or stupid, but I think it’s totally fine to have some forms game freak create just to be funny and mess with players.
Fun fact Pokémon fusing with humans is not a fan idea as there is an actual manga about it called Pokémon Reburst which debuted in the March 9, 2011 issue of Weekly Shōnen Sunday and has never been translated to English. Trainers having more Pokémon is not a bad thing but i agree it is better to space the trainers out but does add to the challenge when important trainers like gym leaders, rivals, etc. Have 6 mons latter on in the game. It is to me another reason why the gen 6 games are so easy as not only do you have megas a mechanic hardly anyone in the game has, but they didn't balance around it like a lot of fan games that have megas do so like previous games the vast majority of npcs have less mons and sometimes worse movesets than you which made the games a breeze.
I never use quick balls but I don't really get the hate. I personally don't like seeing a bunch of different balls in my party, I use a regular pokeball for everything
Hot Take: The New Pokemon Horizons anime is actually really good.. Different from the normal that we had with Ash, and feels more like an anime with Pokemon
@@minicle426 I do too... Tried watching Pokemon again back during Sun and Moon but couldn't get into it... Journeys felt out of touch to me since I haven't played or watched in so long... Horizons sticks with me.. a new fresh adventure with fresh faces..
I don’t like anime that doesn’t have Ash anymore, since it’s become a classic. It’s just my opinion, though. The only anime I don’t like is Journeys, since it doesn’t focus on the Galar region. I think it would’ve been really cool to see a series focusing on Ash meeting the trainers and gym leaders of the Galar Region.
I actually will say that black for Primal Groudon makes sense. If you look at it as more of a blackened ash color, it kinda vibes. And shiny Rayquaza makes sense because the strongest and most dangerous storm clouds are the black ones. Kyogre though, definitely should be different, can’t think of a good reason besides…deep ocean trenches are black via lack of light?
I mean imagine deep diving to the bottom of the hoenn ocean. All you can see are some bright lights swim by and circle around you. You just think it’s some lanturn or chinchou so you kick some of the ocean sand in their direction to get them away. Then it’s ginormous eyes open and it’s pattern begin to glow.
For me, it's Emboar, Volcanion, Simisage and Delphox, Can they be tweaked, absolutely, but i say that they're overheated, especially when we have mons like munkidori Sawk and Throh
We don’t need a new pokemon type, seriously though. It won’t add much too the gameplay and can only screw with balance Catching a pokemon is a chore, they didn’t argue it was bad, but it still a chore.
I get your point about how we don't *need* anything but a new type would be cool to have, but I would rather they focused more on rebalancing the types they already have so they can both do more with what we already have while also buffing older pokemon. Ice and Bug types desperately need it and won't just get better with a new type alone.
Welcome back aura! You can make it through your hardships man, you'll only become a stronger person once your aforementioned difficulties are overcome. Much love from a long-time fan!
I disagree with breeding being easier EVERY generation. Just look at Gen 9. First you have to be able to make an egg power sandwich, which you might not have the ingredients for. Then you have to stay in the picnic to keep getting eggs, meaning you can't HATCH the eggs at the same time like we used to be able to. And I have to only have the breeders in my party since the picnic will just randomly match any two compatible pokemon together.
It took me ages to work out I needed to make Sandwiches for Breeding… it makes no sense as to why that should be the way it’s done. Just give me a place to dump off the two I want to make an egg, don’t make me have to research what I need to do. I’m playing a game, not doing homework, it was bad enough being back in school in Scarlet.
Hot take: Pokémon was a better “kids game” on the Gameboy than it is on the Switch. I’ve been playing Sword with my kid sister (8) for a little bit now and what I’ve noticed is that all the cutscenes and story dialogue are really wearing her down. She’s only 8 so having to read walls of text in order to understand what’s going on is challenging considering that she’s still learning how to read, not helped by all the British slang used that’s unfamiliar to an 8-year-old American. There’s also the problem of all the cutscenes. She doesn’t really care about the story, she just wants to catch cute monsters and explore this video game, and I can’t blame her, that’s how I played video games at her age. At the beginning of the game, all she wanted to do was go back to her house and explore it, but there was so much hand holding, she couldn’t even go near her home. She got frustrated and I had to talk her into pushing through. I could tell she wasn’t having fun and that upset me because I was really excited to introduce her to the games and franchise I loved as a kid. She loves the cards and I thought that playing through the game together could be a good bonding experience and even help her with her reading skills. I knew the game was dialogue heavy, but I didn’t anticipate it being this much of an issue. When I was younger, I played the Gen 2 and 3 games (on emulator, but still) and they were a blast. Now granted, I was already a bit older than her and I had better reading skills but I think that they were much better experiences for a young player simply because they were simpler and allowed for more freedom. They still required reading ability, but there was less to read and no real cutscenes to stop and wait for. I think that’s what made them appealing to kids to begin with, and I think some of that has been lost the modern titles. Now, it has been a while since I played these games and I don’t even think I finished them, so I could be misremembering things, but that’s just how I feel as a big brother and someone interested in education and education through non-traditional means such as video games. It’s just my opinion, and I’m willing to hear yours. Thank you for your time.
@@BJGvideosi was 7 when i played pokémon sun and i don't remember having this issue at all. i loved reading and loved learning more about the story, which says a lot considering alola is known for having the most cutscenes. i can definitely see this being an issue for some kids but it 100% wasn't for me
My Hot Take I think the Pokémon Manga is the best thing to come out of Pokemon (in my opinion). it’s Funny, it introduces unique and cool new ideas ( like Yellow’s powers), it can be pretty dark at times, and it gives character development to a lot of the main Protagonists
I don't think this is actually a hot take among the vast majority of the fandom and to each their own but: There's nothing androgynous about Gardevoir despite the mental gymnastics that some vocal minority makes to pretend that they don't see how female inspired Gardevoir actually is and always has been. I've seen people get downvoted to oblivion just for saying that they want Kirlia to only be able to evolve into Gardevoir if it's female (like it does on pokerouge by the way). Which is utter nonsense because they aren't saying anything weird. Kirlia should definitely only evolve into Gardevoir if female. I always make sure to catch a female Ralts when I'm planning to have a Gardevoir in my team. And I honestly want for them to make the evolution line to only be able to evolve into Gardevoir if female in the new games. Pokemon is no stranger to making pokemon that are intentionally designed with one specific gender in mind. Which is why I only catch pokemon in the gender that they fit the most. Gardevoir was always meant to be portrayed as female. Some people just get confused by the japanese name but that's actually a full on misinterpretation since Sirknight due to the way is pronounced can be read as Saa-knight which roughly translates to "Come here, knight". So basically, Gardevoir is like a princess calling her knight (Gallade). Which is further proven by the design of their megas. And Gardevoir should definitely be a female only branch evolution of Kirlia. And an excuse to change the gender ratio isn't even necessary because they've already made changes to the ralts line in the past like adding the fairy type, adding it to the human-like group and Gardevoir's portrayal in pretty much all forms of media has been exclusively female. So It's very likely for them to also adjust the gender ratios for Gardevoir to be female only and that way be consistent with its design and portrayal. In fact, they've already started to do that for things like the tera raids battles with certain pokemon. Pokemon like eevee, meganium, delphox and primarina, which are overall clearly seen as feminine looking had been added to the tera raid den events exclusively as females. By the way, I mentioned Gardevoir but this idea also extends to other pokemon like Machamp, Lopunny and Gothitelle, which were clearly designed with a specific gender for their concepts and designs in mind. Gardevoir is just the most known example.
@@GeorgeDCowley True, but Kirlia is a middle stage so it's not meant to be a permanent form anyways. Gardevoir on the other hand should definitely be a female only branch evolution of Kirlia.
@@yungmuney5903 Sure, we're all entitled to our own opinions and at the end of the day we’re just fans of a monster-catching game born from one man’s love for bugs. But this isn’t just about personal preference at all. It’s about consistency in design, lore, and artistic intent. Pokemon isn’t some free-for-all where every design choice is meant to be interpreted however anyone likes. The creators have clearly always had deliberate intentions behind their designs, and Gardevoir is a prime example of that. The supposed lack of limitations might feel freeing to some players that are part of a vocal minority, but it also undermines the clarity and purpose behind certain designs. When a pokemon like Gardevoir is given such distinctly feminine traits, concept, aesthetic and is portrayed with a narrative role that aligns with those traits, like being the princess counterpart to Gallade’s knight, allowing males to evolve into it really clashes with that established identity. This isn’t about gatekeeping opinions; it’s about respecting the artistic vision behind the pokemon. If opinions are all equally valid, then the opinion that Gardevoir should remain consistent with its intended design and portrayal is just as valid, if not more so, given that it aligns with the pokemon’s aesthetic, lore, and overall theme. There are plenty of pokemon that already exist without rigid gender limitations like Victreebel, and that’s fine for those specific cases. But for pokemon like Gothitelle, Lopunny and Gardevoir, the feminine identity is very clearly baked into their designs from the start. And the same goes for the masculinity in designs like Machamp, Gallade and Conkeldurr. As I said, this isn't about personal preference; it's about whether the portrayal of a character aligns with its intended design. We can both enjoy the franchise, sure, but not every argument holds the same weight when mine is grounded in established lore and consistent design choices while the other leans purely on preference from a vocal minority that with all the respect they deserve, decide to not see the obvious.
People just want their niche and highly academic concept of how the sexes work to be the dominant way of thinking which will never happen. I don't think it should be changed though just because it's funny. Poor dude drew the short straw being born the male ballerina and waifu mon.
Here's my hot take: Most of the people demonising Kieran as 'bratty' or 'psychopathic' are leaning into ableist talking points through the demonisation of autism through the demonisation of Kieran's autistic traits and his autism-coding.
My hot take is that Genwunners are NOT the most toxic part of the fanbase, not by a long shot, they just have opinions that hurt people's feelings the most. Say what you all about bias or nostalgia, which is something that every pokemon fan is guilty of, I've never had a genwunner personally attack me or anyone else because I had an opinion that they didn't like, which is more than what I could say for a majority of the Pokémon fanbase.
ask any competitive player (especially those who got ptsd from fairy's intro) and you will see why having a new type will most likely flip competitive on its head
The Pokémon Ranger games fix several of people’s most common complaints about the main series, and the same can be said for several other spin-offs that explore more complex ideas.
1. Charizard haters are more annoying the charizard lovers 2. Gen 1 is the worst gen 3. SWSH is a fun game 4. Johto not as great as people remember 5. Leon was one of the coolest champions 6. People talk about how Leon got favoritism but don’t talk about Cynthia’s ABUNDANCE of it throughout the series. 7. Ash was a great trainer
Been wanting to replay swsh at some point. My hot take was that I thought Scarlet and Violet were fun but apparently that made people mad cause they assumed it meant i thought it was a fantastic game lol
Hot Take: Pokémon games should give the player a way to learn how to evolve new pokémon that are harder to evolve, of course, not directly to the point, but rather giving the player a way to think with tips, puns and metaphors
The weird thing is that they do give apparently, it's just that we as players don't see them, or they're really vague. Game Freak should really make some hints and tips clearer.
Hot take: black and white 2's gym pacing is a bit faster than other gens. You go through gyms 1-6 pretty quickly. It's not until 7-8 that it slows down. I think the game goes too fast until the end.
completely agree, i recently finished white and i’m now playing white 2. i liked white for the slow pacing and spread of the gyms but 2 is quite overwhelming considering you can finish the first 6 gyms in only a couple of hours with most gyms only having one or two routes in between.
well there are hot takes that make you feel different because of your opinion/taste/preference/etc. but there are also the type of hot takes that make me think "how the hell am I in the minority with this opinion, is everybody else just crazy?!"
10:44 Hmmm, I can see some reasons why they would. Older mons like Pidgey used to have bad moves since the movepool wasn't that big back then, so people might use one and see what new tools it can do. Also if you use fenekin, why use fletching who'll also become fire type
I always thought I was in the minority for wanting to only use new pokemon in my playthroughs. So many people I've seen mostly use old favorites and really only their starter as the new mon. Even back in 9th grade when I was planning out my Sword team, my frined asked me why I wasn’t using any old pokemon, as if it's weird or wrong to only use new ones.
I wish HG/SS took from Black/White's example. I never understood why Johto was oversaturated with Kanto Pokemon, especially when YOU CAN GO TO KANTO in those games. It's one of the reasons why the Johto games are my least favorite
I agree with the stat adjustment one with the dact that they gave Masquerain, a pokemon that alot of people tend to forget about due to surskit being a 1% chance in Hoenn, got a slight power boost, so why not every other pokemon get the same thing?
One fan idea that I still love to this day. You are free to roam anywhere from the start of the game and as you progress the level scaled up the more badge you collect.
I mean, to be fair, the games are mainly about the Pokemon, so it makes sense that the human characters wouldn't be as interesting, as they are not, and were never meant to be the franchise's selling point. I can understand why some human characters are more popular and beloved than others at the end of the day, but it's getting to experience the new Pokemon that each game introduces that makes them exciting for everyone
To me the issues many people have (and I've said it for a while now) it seems to always circle around the notion that these features are shallow. It's always "this issue is better!", "no, this other feature is better!". It's like there is no other option.
12:44 Many people, including myself, don’t feel like we need a new type because there’s a) not a problem with the current type system that justifies a new one, just maybe tweaking existing ones and b) 18 is already a complete enough number of types as already been represented on each segment of Terapagos’ shell and no, Stellar is not a true type
Cold take: Greninja is *the* most overrated Pokmon. Hyped up, the Gen 6 rep in _Smash for_ (yes that is the official shorthand), given a huge role in the XY anime and even given a whole ass unique form, and was voted the most popular Pokémon in a Japanese poll. Only for them to throw it out the following generation by dumping that unique form unceremoniously in a demo and being one of if not the only Pokmon to *lose* a unique form. It'd be like they just removed Dusk form Lycanroc. Oh yeah and it's not that popular anymore in those polls either (Dedenne won 1st place once so I wouldn't put the most faith in them to begin with). I can put money on the fact that if _Smash Ultimate_ didn't have the "Everyone is Here!" gimmick Greninja would've been left behind. Yeah, Charizard is overused, but at least it's consistent. Not even The Pokémon Company seems to like Greninja.
Buzzwole was also number 2 the year Dedenne won. Not my favorite Ultra Beast(Naganadel is my favorite), but I respect the chad Buzzwole for that achievement.
@@Rexred09 Dude liken I said it was dropped off a cliff by the people who made it. They barely show it any attention besides what they need to. And in that poll where Dedenne won, Greninja wasn’t in the top 10. Pokémon in _Smash_ need staying power, and Greninja has none.
@@primrosevale1995 It still scored 13 out of the 900 something pokemon at the time. And the year before that it came in first, ranked above the popularity monsters that are charizard and lucario. On top of that, it also starred in the anime, got an exclusive form, was busted in competitive and etc. and all of that stuff you described literally happened after smash ultimates release so the smash argument dosent mean anything. Id argue that besides pikachu and puff, it had the most staying power of all the pokemon.
@@Rexred09 The point you shouldn’t take the polls too seriously. And by staying power I mean it’s been consistently used by the franchise itself. Greninja don’t fit that.
I have two hot takes: one is that I hat trade evolutions as there are so many cool pokemon, but I can't get them because I have no one to trade with. The other is version exclusives, I think the non-story based ones like braviery and mandibuzz should be available post game. This is generally because when I'm completing my pokedex I have like 40+ pokemon I can't get.
I don't have a problem with bipedal Pokémon in general, but I dislike it when their proportions are very humanlike. There's plenty of bipedal Pokémon that don't look very human at all, like Feraligatr and Excadrill. When it comes to the ones that do look more humanlike, my tolerance to their design still varies a lot. To take two close examples, I'm okay with Hitmonlee because while it does sort of resemble a human, its legs are segmented and it doesn't have a neck, while Hitmonchan just looks like a boxer with a weird head and a weird outfit. I used to dislike Incineroar, because I think Torracat is really cool. I was pretty disappointed when the Alola starters' final forms were leaked, although Smash Ultimate has warmed me up to Incineroar a bit since then. I still dislike the trend they've been on where they make every final starter evolution look like a furry cosplayer. Decidueye and Skeledirge are honestly the only post-XY final starter evolutions that I don't dislike (although I dislike Rillaboom for a different reason, namely that it looks too generic).

Honestly I would argue that not having XP share actually guides you to overleveling your starter and letting your other members rot in the back
That was how it was before gen 6, Since most people's highest level pokemon is their starter, they would be used more and thus be higher level than everyone else.

@@klatchabobby I don't quite agree with this because they've been adding less pokemon in the newer gens. It would be fine with the older gens cause they were adding +100 pokemon, but since gen 6 they've struggled to reach 80 new mons.

It’s hard to still see Dragon as a rare, exotic, and powerful Type when it can so easily be countered by a Type that’s actually fairly common. I’d be ok with it if Fairy just resisted Dragon, but making them immune is too much imo.

My "hot" take:
Get rid of Freeze Dry and just make Ice super-effective or even neutral to Water. It gives a check to Water(and even a buff if a Water type faces another Water type), and gives Ice a buff. Win win
Actually in gen 9 with snow... ice type is pretty strong now
Better option: give Ice another resistance besides itself. Ice is, without question, the single worst defensive type in the game. It needs something, anything, to offset its 4 weaknesses.

Back in the day, the only legit way you could obtain mythicals like Mew and Celebi were from in person events that only happened for a couple days in major cities. So many of us more rural kids couldn't go, so we missed out. Having them obtainable in game would have made it far more fair.

I get your point about how we don't *need* anything but a new type would be cool to have, but I would rather they focused more on rebalancing the types they already have so they can both do more with what we already have while also buffing older pokemon. Ice and Bug types desperately need it and won't just get better with a new type alone.

Not sure if intentional but you really show this by writing a wall of text about the issue.

I think the Pokémon Manga is the best thing to come out of Pokemon (in my opinion). it’s Funny, it introduces unique and cool new ideas ( like Yellow’s powers), it can be pretty dark at times, and it gives character development to a lot of the main Protagonists
Arguably, Kirlia's the same, though.

True, but Kirlia is a middle stage so it's not meant to be a permanent form anyways. Gardevoir on the other hand should definitely be a female only branch evolution of Kirlia.
Heres a hot take, pokemon doesn't need to conform to your gender politics
@@yungmuney5903
Sure, we're all entitled to our own opinions and at the end of the day we’re just fans of a monster-catching game born from one man’s love for bugs.
Here's my hot take:
Most of the people demonising Kieran as 'bratty' or 'psychopathic' are leaning into ableist talking points through the demonisation of autism through the demonisation of Kieran's autistic traits and his autism-coding.
An annoying character is an annoying character.
My VERY hot take is that gen 8 had some of the best new pokemon added
Legit yes, I really didn't enjoy sword and sheild but those pokémon were fire
Idk if it’s a hot take or not, but I wish the little map markers in PLA had carried over to SV. They were really useful!
The Pokémon Ranger games fix several of people’s most common complaints about the main series, and the same can be said for several other spin-offs that explore more complex ideas.
Quick Balls also look cool! It's something I picture electric type specialists use to capture their mons.
1. Charizard haters are more annoying the charizard lovers
2. Gen 1 is the worst gen
3. SWSH is a fun game
4. Johto not as great as people remember
5. Leon was one of the coolest champions
Gen 2 is the worst gen. Leon was a solid B tier Champion. He felt like most other champions. Didn't stand out at all.
Finally someone acknowledging the over the top favouritism with Cynthia.
When did people say Ash was a bad trainer, sure he’s had some moments but his Pokémon still love him
@@ThisIsAHandle-xz5yo that would make him a great tamer, not the same thing
My sister said that intellion looks like a hazbin hotel character and now I can't unsee it
I could see it fitting in more in Helluva Boss's Envy ring
Hot Take: Pokémon games should give the player a way to learn how to evolve new pokémon that are harder to evolve, of course, not directly to the point, but rather giving the player a way to think with tips, puns and metaphors
The weird thing is that they do give apparently, it's just that we as players don't see them, or they're really vague. Game Freak should really make some hints and tips clearer.
Huge fact
It’s so easy too, the Pokédex is right there
Legendary Duo Shinies should be the color of the opposing Legend.
I kind of wonder if that's for people who played the first games, and want to get comparable quickly.
well there are hot takes that make you feel different because of your opinion/taste/preference/etc. but there are also the type of hot takes that make me think "how the hell am I in the minority with this opinion, is everybody else just crazy?!"
You somehow uploaded a hot take vid at the same time that odyssey central uploaded a hot take vid
They should make region-locking a toggle, and still have un-important opponents with older pokemon.
Urn ackually catching them all is required in legends arceus
I wish HG/SS took from Black/White's example. I never understood why Johto was oversaturated with Kanto Pokemon, especially when YOU CAN GO TO KANTO in those games. It's one of the reasons why the Johto games are my least favorite
Hot take: not all green shinys are bad, for example Machamp looks like Hulk, or Muk looks even more toxic
Shiny Espeon is my favorite shiny eeveelution,,, lil alien guy :]
Guess it's like black shinies.
To this day I do not understand why EXP share is always on and Set mode was removed.
Hot take: pokemon ultra sun and moon are the best pokemon games
I don't entirely agree, but I do think that Gen 7 had the best dex
I actually partly agree. I often cite UltraSun and UltraMoon as some of the best.
As far as I’m concerned, BD and SP were absolute, unapologetic, cash grabs, and the Pokémon community let Game Freak get away with it way too well
My hot take: The human characters are nowhere near as interesting as the Pokémon.
Design? Newer games does it amazing
Personalities and stories ? It's weird. Sometimes it's good sometimes it's meh
Which is why they need to give the Pokémon their own victory animations at the end of every battle instead of just showing us the trainer's reactions.
Most aren't interesting. But every now and then you get a Guzma or a Larry and then it's all worth it
@@midi5467
Agreed on that point.
Hope all is well personally bud. Great vid btw
That fusing trainers with Pokémon reminds me of that one Pokémon manga TheJwittz covered that had that exact idea as the main premise lol.
RéBURST
My hot take: I would take voice acting over amazing graphics/visual design
I agree at this point now that we basically proper jrpg cutscene we should have voice acting.
Im still not sure how hot this is now, but the gen 7 Alola games are my favorite games in the franchise, I adore everything about them
2:31 buff castform
12:44 Many people, including myself, don’t feel like we need a new type because there’s a) not a problem with the current type system that justifies a new one, just maybe tweaking existing ones and b) 18 is already a complete enough number of types as already been represented on each segment of Terapagos’ shell and no, Stellar is not a true type
Hot take: Shadow pokémon are overrated in pokémon go.
Gens 6 and 7 actually did buff base stats of a number of old Pokemon, but they just stopped doing that in Gen 8 and I really don't understand why.
I like alolan dugtrio
Let's guess when I have shady figures in front of my house because of this take
0:57, tbh, Charizard is a mascot too. Just like Lucario, Piplup, Meowth, Mewtwo, etc. All Pokemon that get too much representation are mascots
Greninja wouldve still been added in smash ultimate because its one of the most popular pokemon ever what tf are you on about?
Inteleon being my fav pokemon makes that thumbnail a W
Cold take: snom
I don’t know if you’ve heard this yet, but I love when I see you’ve uploaded because your voice is very relaxing. Great video!
9:10 Everything's chrome in the future
