Just bought an early version 288xp. Glad to see this channel giving me good intel on my new saw I intend to rehab. Although the saw has lots of parts I’m replacing, the OEM cylinder looks pretty good. Cleaned it up, cross hatched cylinder with Flex Hone and I’m replacing piston with new pop up with Caber ring. Ought to be good. Flywheel missing a fin. Can’t seem to find a replacement. Husqvarna stopped making them. I grinded the opposing fin off. Luckily, the pawls still have a fin to grab in right position. Not sure how it’ll run. My dealer says still enough fins to provide cooling. Will continue to search for new flywheel
Yeah, haven't timed anything yet. I just wanted to actually assemble and run it first. I never get to "just run 'em" because the second I start timing & investigating, I get all anxious and I'm like "well, it's already disassembled.........I can make this better, and this better, and".......... next thing you know, I only know how the thing runs once ported haha
That's good to know about the 288 cylinder though. I'm going to do both top ends so I have a comparison and a top end already done on the shelf for a "future project" ;) Thanks for sharing!
J&S build a 288 for me, it is a monster! You’re gonna love it! Looking forward to seeing it in the wood! Thanks for sharing buddy! I love a junkyard build! 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏

Thank you friends for sharing the tutorial, greetings from Indonesia
I really like your channel man. Especially your High-top Poulan. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, you're doing great yourself! Right back at ya. Man, I need to get back into that poulan. It's a fun one. Thanks for stopping in!
Thats back in the day when Engineers didn’t mess around😉. 281s run strong with just a BGD!
Not messed with a 181 yet but I know the 288s have really good port timing and squish with a gasket delete
