Listening to this after season 42. When I heard the phrase "goat with teeth," I couldn't help but think of Maryanne. She and Sandra have very different gameplay styles, but that phrase I think describes them both perfectly.
Johnny FairPlay grandma prank: you say it doesn’t work in 2021. I watched this season in 2024 and I thought it was hilarious. And this is coming from someone who held his grandmothers hand as she passed away. Legendary.
Finally, I'm all caught up. After this particular podcast I don't even remember anymore what Lil, Rupert and Christa sound like in reality. I forgot how fun this season was. The cast is perfect, even the pre-mergers brought something. It's a shame only 4 people have been brought back, I would've loved to see Lil, Darrah or Christa back, or even Burton, he was fun. There wasn't a dull moment this entire season because the people they put on Pearl Islands were just crazy, in a good kind of way. On the Coach-Philipp-spectrum they were definitely on the Coach-side, entertaining instead of annoying. I love how much they had to bleep Sandra, Rupert and Jon, they each cussed more than some entire casts. The pirate-theme worked so well and just added to the overall-funness. Roooaaaarrrgh! (edit: And the best thing this season achieves is that you totally forget about the Outcast-twist. Look at where the other seasons are that brought people back, they all suffered from it on this ranking. I agree with the panel, if you're going to bring people back, this is how you do it, no airtime being sucked up by pointless non-players and over at the merge) It's interesting how the top 3 of this countdown line up with my personal top 3 (with Cagayan and HvV switched though), while the rest of the top 10 is entirely different.
Oh my gosh I’m watching this in bed and I have to try so hard to not wake my husband up with my laughing. The bit about selling Trish or having her loved one be the town lady. I’m ☠️
I had this season ranked #4. This was the season where I started watching Survivor, and crazy enough the first episode I ever watched was the Rupert blindside episode, and I was only 5 or 6 years old at the time. The cast for this season is fantastic, even some of the people who get a lesser edit have their position known throughout the game. The pre-merge is interesting to watch because both Drake and Morgan have very different dynamics, and they make almost each episode of the pre-merge fantastic. I actually enjoyed the Outcast twist because of how it went with the theme of the season, and I like that the Outcasts actually had to beat the people still in the game just to even get a chance to come back for the merge. In my opinion, this season's merge plays similar to that of modern Survivor without all the idols and advantages. You get Andrew's script flipped by Lill, then Ryan O. gets the boot which was the most boring episode of the merge, but it still set up the Rupert blindside which set off the chain of blindsides all the way down to the end. You have fantastic characters in Rupert, Sandra, Johnny Fairplay, Andrew, Lill, and Burton. You also get absolutely fantastic moments with Sandra getting loud too, Johnny Fairplay's hilarious voting confessionals, the dead grandmother lie, Rupert and Jon fighting, and much more. This season is fantastic from start to finish, and if I were to recommend any season of the Survivor, this would be my first recommendation. It truly is a pirate adventure, and this season will always hold a special place in my heart for what got me into the show.
@@thefoxoflaurels3437 Other than Sandra, Savage, and Rupert the cast is either very unlikeable or very forgettable, the outcast twist is the worst twist ever, the challenges are super lackluster, and it’s super boring

@@bigbuffguy9589 perhaps I need a rewatch. I admit I'm a newer fan. Stumbled upon 40 then went back to watch the rest. Laughed out loud at every spot on impression of christa, Rupert and lil. This was a true delight.
I rewatch this podcast just for the imagined Lil and Russell interaction. My god what a podcast
OG Sandra and the gang lets go.
The Survivor wiki showing up in the middle of the break was iconic lmaoooo
Please can Mike Bloom use the Christa voice in every podcasts. I could not breathe, I was laughing so hard.

so glad to see Haley back! I really enjoyed her when she was on the countdown before

Such a good panel. Great job!
After a few years, these are a treat to come back to. This one has me wheezing like a mf, truly hilarious!
The Mike Bloom voices and quotes made this feel like an ep of Historians, and now I’m gonna go re-listen to their eps on Pearl Islands 😝
Better on a rewatch. And it low-key saved the show. It is a good crossover between the "old school" and the "golden era"

This was my number 3 so PI being here is perfect IMO.
I'm under 2 minutes in and already traumatized by Cap'n Blooms entrance. Stay weird, dude.
JUSTICE FOR SKINNY RYAN
I was disappointed Rob didn't sing Amazing Grace but, as always, the Podfather delivered
He trumpeted Amazing Grace as they went off the air.
Mike's Christa voice slays me!
So excited for Cagayan. It has the best merged episode in the series. The vote reading was so iconic.

I guess I'm in the minority who thinks the season is good but not great.
