This Was Crazy! Triumph Street Triple 765 RS Review

- I was expecting the Triumph T120 at my door but unfortunately due to some insurance issues I was given this as an alternative. The Triumph Street Triple 765 RS, Its Mental!
The Street Triple is a super fast sports naked motorcycle with all the latest features like the lightning fast quick shifter and 5 rider modes. I wasn't expecting to like this motorbike as its not my usual cup of tea but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. No its not going to convert me but I certainly enjoyed it as a fun blast.
I go into detail on the performance, handling, acceleration, engine, brakes, suspension and more...

I've viewed countless videos of this bike and yet none of them gave a sense of what it's like to ride as much as your onboard footage did. Great stuff!
Great video. So insurance won’t cover an 80 hp T120 but will cover 128 hp Street Triple, yeah that makes perfect sense. 🤔
Totally agree. Very little of what the government or insurance companies do, makes sense.
Exactly, thanks Darcy for your unbiased take on a different beverage choice.
Insurance companies are scumbag idiots. Nothing but legalised theft
My insurance hates fairings.
It’s especially apparant in used bikes because the premiums are still stupid on bikes that are 10+ years old.
I guess their logic is something like: fairings = sportsbike = bad.
I’ve recently been looking at a 2015 KTM Super Duke 1290.
At almost 34 years of age I can insure that for about 75% of what I would have to pay for a Yamaha R6 of similar vintage.
Even a VFR 800 is more expensive to insure than the KTM.
Absolute madness.
Insurance companies in the US don’t care. As long as they get the premium paid😂
I see the comments about the lack of a rear seat while having pillion pegs. Theres a key tumbler on the left side of the rear subframe that takes your ignition/tank key. A simple twist and it unlocks the rear cowl, and the RS when purchased comes with both the rear seat and cowl and you can swap between them in your garage with about two seconds of effort. A simple push at the front edge of the cowl or seat and it clicks back into the locked position.
Cool, good to know!
For someone who usually rides bikes of a completely different nature, I have to say, well done for showing you're willing to expand your, 'riding horizons'. 👍
Was going to make just this comment but I don't have to now, you did it for me!1 Cheers😁
@@jamesbrundret1726 👍
@@jimdoar2546 Exactly.👍
Always thought the Street Triple looked horrible until i saw one at the delaers and went for a test ride. Holy shit that bike is just glorious. And it looks far better in person and screams quality! Went from not interested to calculating finances in 5 minutes :D
I had a 675R for years, they're genuinely fantastic bikes. It's cool to hear impressions from someone who normally isn't into this sort of bike!
This motor should have been in the new Daytona.
Yeah, but then the Streety would have the toughest enemy in the own garden
I have this bike. It's incredible. I keep wanting to get another bike. Then I ride this again and I'm so content. I rode it 5 hrs today, what an amazing bike. I would like to have a Harley and other bikes in the garage. But until then, what a great bike. I will keep it forever.
Awesome to hear 👍🏼
I'm 5'9 and heavy set. I can ride my 2022 for about 4 hours+ at a time on Australian county twisties no problem. The benefit of the 2022 is that it has a larger tank so 300 km or 180 miles plus is possible.
I'm 6ft and the bike fits me well, its my 2nd Street triple rs and with all the tech and perfect bhp for the road its a great buy, also appreciate the modern retros you show on this channel. Thanks
I've been doing a direct access course, and have been learning to ride on several bikes in the school's fleet, but did my Mod 1 on this bike, and have spent the most time on it, and I love it. Your videos are great by the way - just very impressionistic and helpful.
@@Combatlon thank you 😊
Ive been waiting for this video because i own a silver RS, and i love watching people ride one for the first time! Especially for you, as I noticed your love for the Triumph modern classics. It really is a firecracker, such a great balance of incredible power, great handling, and relatively comfortable riding position.
Nice review but the only thing I would say is about the seat I’am 65 I have owned mine for 18 months and I find the seat very comfortable 400 mile days no problem I only really use my bike for long trips
Totally agree , I have 2019 765r seat excellent
Does yours , burn oil?
Had the speed triple for 6 months,I decided it was going to kill me,and it nearly did 😂
lol, I have the speed triple RR, and i feel the same way. Hopefully we are both here years from now to talk about it, i love the bike.
My brother avoids mine for the same exact reason. XD
Love the weight of the speed triple in the corners. I like a bike to feel substantial, and the Speed feels perfect for me, much better than the Street.
Yours ate oil ?
@@cowmath77I had the Speed Triple Rs 1200 I sold it back to Triumph last year, it’s a waste of a bike but it’s an absolute masterpiece of engineering
These are the best reviews in my opinion, when an “outsider” tries something new. Very authentic. Another good example I saw recently was RedAng Revival’s review of the Z900RS.
This is the first time that yellow seems to work. But I'm more for bikes that find their power in lower rpm range. Very good review.
Im just over 6ft 2 and find mine really comfy. I've also got a cosmic yellow model and covered 2k miles last year and 2 track days. I really love it and agree with what you say. It's a little firm for the back roads, but you can back the suspension off to the comfort setting if you prefer to do so.
I've done exactly what you had suggested, I fitted spark headers and an akrapovic end can on mine and it sings! I fitted a rapidbike evo tuning module too and had it custom tuned by those nice folks at Torque Tune Dyno and what a difference! It's quite the lively animal now (wasn't exactly bad before!).. But now at 130bhp at the rear wheel, its got that extra added attitude.
I think it's Triumphs comfy version of a GSXR 750 (I've had several of those over the years).
Find the bike pretty versatile and would cover commuting and touring too if you wanted to, although it's wasted on a commute. You'd certainly arrive with a smile on your face though, which is what this bike is all about, so much fun to ride and appeals / caters to a wide audience of riders and their skill sets. 👍😎
Hey , i have a question :
Did yours burn oil ? Couse from from i heard from people , some of them burned oil.
3:10 - TH-cam's closed captions when he says Akrapovič translates to and I quote: "a crap of itch". 🤣
I truly think this may be a rather underrated beauty of a bike. Loads of people prefer the sharper lines of the sport bikes out there, but for a strong, under 800cc, naked bike, this is amazing. I'd love to own one soon and use it for distance traveling or touring.
Fantastic review by the way! 👌🏻
I was surprised when I saw the thumbnail. Looks like you had a good time with it. Id’ve loved to see the old man on it, lol.
Ive had a few 600 supersports and a fireblade in my past, my bike at the moment is an fz1 and wanted something different, test rode one of these and instantly ordered one. It will be blasting round Yorkshire etc from march 😁😁
You won't be disappointed has the x factor 😊
After riding your typical genre of bikes this would of course be surprised with this gem. These types of bikes feel much more precise and agile. When I return to “retro” bikes I feel that they are slow to react.
I had a m2018 Honda CB1000R “neo-retro.” It was quick and buzzy. That is an inline 4. The buzziness was drove me nuts and it needed a seventh gear!
I find this type better in tight city traffic as the response is accurate and immediate. My new Guzzi feels slow to respond (because of what it is). This sometimes gets me into trouble. It takes more skill to overcome the bucking and lag in response while navigating traffic in the inner city.
This model of Triumph is well-liked. It does look quite aggressive!
Because you are into cruisers and classics it makes this review even more relevant. I think you hit the reason why people buy these bikes - grin factor. This is a great looking bike and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
@@fiucik1you call that Ugly? You should see the MT09 or MT07😅 but anyway, it shows that beauty is truly in tbe eye of the beholder. Personally most of the modern motorcycles I like europen brands the most but I'm more into modern Classics, and again the one's that come from Europe the most.
@@fiucik1I guess you haven't seen a Vitplien or any KTM?
@@fiucik1You are Mad! 😀. See the bike in the flesh, that yellow is deep, lots of metallic and changes tone in the sunlight. And suits this naked bike well. This is a great Street bike, for legal speed, and can do Track days for those interested. It’s top class quality, comes with lots of Tech for those interested, and a beauty. What are you riding out of interest?
@@fiucik1 When you go look at the bonneville, see it in the flesh.
Not being a one make, one type of bike person I would love one of these alongside my Harley and my scooter.😊
I bought the slightly faster and prettier Carnival Red version last Fall.😊
It comes with the rear seat and the rear cowl.
To each his own, but I think the exhaust looks fantastic. Much better than a chunky aftermarket one.
At 5'8" I flatfoot easily.
I swapped tires out this Spring as our New England roads and weather aren't a great match for the track tires it comes with.
I also use the comfort sertings on the suspension, plus went one turn out of the rear Ohlins(oddly labeled non-adjustble in manual). It rides FANTASTIC.
Plenty of low-down grunt and really screams from about 8K on.
Approaching mile 5,000 of sheer joy on the road.
Rode mine for 11 hours yesterday. 11 glorious hours of fun.
Awesome 👍🏼
That’s how you ride those
👍
I rode one of these last summer at mid ohio. What an excellent machine. I rode the “R” and the 120 hp is all there, believe me. The power curve is perfect. 3 cylinders is the best all around. The shifter was perfect, the braking was outstanding. I like the riding position with the handlebars. Its basically the fastest machine i’ve ridden that is still comfortable enough to ride daily. And if i bought one, id be sure to get a lot of looks and questions!
Really good video Darcy. I’ve had mine for a month now and you touched on pretty much everything. I’m only 5’9” and have done some long runs on it and never get uncomfortable. My last bike was a Z900 which was amazing but the 765rs is just so good in every aspect
I had a 675 version and it’s a total hooligan bike, tons of fun but a bit of license loser if you get carried away, which is easy to do. UK insurance makes no sense at all! I’m a Brit but live in Austria and they grade bikes by BHP not cc’s, which makes total sense. Number plates are issued by the insurance company and I can use my plate for up to three bikes, simply swap it over. Insurance can be ‘paused’ over the winter season, hand plate back in and pick it up again when the snow and ice have gone! Cost is based on the most powerful bike in your stable… makes much more sense! Good down to earth review, thanks!
I bought one recently 2024 model 765 rs Red, it comes with the pillion seat and this was a upgrade over my CBT benelli leonchino 125, yes i went mental mode and got a fast bike for the first Cat A bike, also im only 5ft 4 and i love it lol
I’m 5’8” and fit the bike well. I’m on the balls of my feet at a standstill. (30” inseam). I know you were complaining about the stiff ride, however it does have adjustable settings to make the back road rides easier to live with on its softer settings. It’s a bit unfair to compare this bike to a cruiser, since they have different goals. One can also complain that low seat riding cruisers will damage your spine on a bumpy back road. I personally love the howling intake and triple cylinder sound. The performance is also great considering the price point. If the bike has shortcomings, it’s the typical complaints of any “naked” bike… no wind protection and worse in rainy weather…. But that also means it’s solid fun when the weather is nice. 🌞😎👍
Well, that yellow is quite nice - and it is kind of beautiful maybe, at least in the eyes of a wasp... I like to use the quickshifter in my bike at calm commuting too because I'm so utterly lazy.
Anyhow, the main feature of this bike is in my opinion the weight. Advertised wet weight 188 kg! It is a light-weight bike! Great thing to have!
Easy to ride, Light, Agile and most importantly it is freaking fast.
I tested the ride once and I love it.
Sadly I can't afford it.
I am a 2014 Street Triple R owner. Best machine in the segment by far. Beware of the devil atached with it thought... The one that will whisper "go faster" to your ear every time you ride it...
I own the Silver Ice in India. Triumph provides the rear seat as part of the default package with the bike.
A very nice bike. I prefer my speed triple 1050 RS. prefer the torquey grunt. Love the yellow too.👍🏻
I love these. I own a Street Triple 660 S and I'm planning to buy one come 2025 when my license allows it (I'm 27 but still under Australia LAMS) I'm thinking the R not the RS but there are additional things on the RS which make it well worth it. Things like the TRT Dash, Bar Ends, Belly Pan and Ohlins rear shock very well makes up for the change in pricing.
However I have a few parts on my ST 66S which I'd carry over to an R when the time comes. I'd have to figure out what can be done for the exhaust and what's available as the mounting is different for the newer models.
Not sure if anyone has said so in the comments but the bike does come with a pillion seat included in the price and its a simple snap on replacement for the rear seat cowl fitted. This is my 3rd Street triple and I absolutely love it, especially in the cosmic yellow. I added to optional front screen to mine, and it makes the bike even more beautiful imo.
Love the bike Darcy, had it here since Tuesday and been waiting for the ice to go now we have a storm until Wednesday. But looking forward to putting some miles on it over next couple weeks. This is the bike that could get added to my fleet for sure 👌
Got a 2020 model (basically the same) and been on week holidays trough Germany/Austria/Italy/France. And it's still pretty comfortable.
Think I will just keep my 1985 Gsxr750 instead.
Your point?
FYI you actually get the rear seat with the bike when you buy it . On the R it’s fitted on the RS it’s given extra
Good to know!
this is perfect if it had Cruise control, I'm torn between this or XSR900
it's hilarious how clueless insurance companies are when it comes to cc's vs hp's and the combination of the 2. That 765 would walk away from a T120 but if you don't understand hp, gearing and rev limits then you'd never have a clue.
Thanks for this video review of the Street Triple. I also tend to gravitate towards cruiser/modern classic type bikes, but this model has always tempted my curiosity. It just looks like a lot of fun, and I also like the "bug eye" look.
I have 2018rs I ride in sports mode and it's perfect for slow traffic stuff too. It comes alive after 7k.
Rear passenger seat actually comes with the bike 👍
I'm 6'5" (with quite long legs vs upper body) and I'm surprisingly comfortable on this bike.
Same, but I'm on a 675 that's got a lowering kit fitted 😂
And I'm 22 stone 😬
Seems like a great scratcher but can’t imagine doing any great distance in relaxed comfort.
Beatiful bike! I tested it few years back - was great, but seemed too small for me and I am just 183cm. Otherwise pure joy.
I have the 2021 street triple R. Love it to bits. Nice review guys
Many thanks 😊 great to hear 👍🏼
I rode one of these as a loaner when i dropped my street twin off for service. not too great in traffic compared to the bonnie but it's a nice bike I agree. Its a bike that wants to go and an incredible contrast to the bonnie
Beautiful machine but try an MT09 if you have a chance though, the engine pulls even harder.
Great video, lots of practical points covered.
Lovely machine, especially in the yellow. Glad to see Triumph have done away with the bug eyed headlights from older versions. I'm maybe a bit long in the tooth for this bike but it would be perfect for some of the roads here in southern Spain.
I used to dislike the looks of the Spped/Street triples. I have come around to liking them.
Well done Darcy. Very well presented. I think it hilarious that insurance allows you to ride this crazy machine but not a T120. But what an exciting bike. I can tell you're not quite use to how these pull away - I had to laugh when you did the pull away shot. You revved the bike nicely but pulled away as if you were riding a Bullet 350 and then accelerated. Next time pull away with a bit of gas, but make sure you keep your weight forward. You guys have a great format that works for all types of bikes 👍
I instantly want a "I'm no Dunlop" bumper sticker
That bike is flat amazing, and the best naked sport bike for anything less than MV Agusta money.
Nice one , Mr Darcy 👍 Good gravy !... the bike sounds like a wailing banshee 🤣
My fav bike. Hopfully ill be getting an RS in 2024 new
Agree about the fork legs, conventional forks just look better than upside down, but at least these are in a nice, discreet colour. Which makes me wonder why Triumph give so many of their more classic styled bikes those tacky golden forklegs. Something to rethink, Triumph.
Gary Johnson and Peter Hickman have both won the IOM supersport class on the 675 version of this ripper
Thanks, Darcy. This was an excellent review. I love the look of the bike and have considered one. I'm 6'2" and I'm curious how leaned forward you were on the bike and how that felt on your wrists and hands?
Did you watch all the video? I did say about that in the video 👍🏼
Thanks, @@MrDarcy-OlMan. I must've missed it.
"Somewhere where the roads are lovely and smooth"..... Germany, maybe. Or Portugal? Certainly not the UK!
German roads are degrading in a rapid pace, though.
I laughed out loud when you said you were expecting a T120 and got this. Its like expecting a Golden Retreiver and getting a Rottweiler. One thing I do like about motorcycle insurance in Canada is it is not based on engine size but more motorcycle type. They've figured out that 600 cc supersport bikes and the kind of people that ride them are way more likely to get into an accident than Triumph Bonneville and Moto Guzzi riders who generally just want to putt along at the speed limit).
💯
My two bike garage would be one of these and a chilled out speedmaster, all bases covered😊
I traded a T120 for this exact bike (same color, too). The Street Triple is incredible and handles like a dream. The only complaint I ever had about my T120 was the weight and the “adequate but not great” suspension. I honestly would rather have one of the mid-2000’s Bonnevilles with the 865 engine and carburetors.
Awesome bike , great fun and very fast but I think that the uk doesn’t have the type of roads you really need to enjoy it fully .
Also fast easy to ride bikes encouraged us to go fast ( not good for your health ) great enjoyable videos 👍👍
No faring! The wind has got to be bad.
I prefer the look of cruisers and classic bikes but for this type of type it is not too bad looking if you like that style!
I have to agree about the forks. I'm so done with the gold effect forks now.
Another great video indeed. It looks like bumblebee from transformers for me. 😊
What a crazy situation with insurance it's like comparing a sports car with a normal one and they let you ride the sports car and not the normal one
Nice to see a review on this bike from someone who doesn’t normally ride this style of bike. I ride a modern classic but I am tempted I must admit. The Daytona looks like it is going to be a bit more of a compromise with a fairing and fly screen and less brutish engine. You should review one of those or a Trident.
We did review a Trident a while ago, not sure if you have seen that. Here is the link 👍🏼

Good stuff. Love the red, but I was surprised how much the yellow pops in the right light. Cheers to triumph for fun colors. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
I owned a 675r for 7 years. I’ve only rode a 765 gen 1 once they moved the game on more. The Triple still my favourite engine . Now own a 2015 Daytona for track and local riding. Have to admit the Daytona is not as good road bike as it is track . I think the 765RS would be good at both . I Would have to sell my super duke before the Daytona. As riding on the road in the uk is horrible now .
Maybe it's not your cup of tea, but it looks real badass bike
Good video, nice to see you do something more sporty!
Don’t apologise for not getting your knee down. There are too many of them who become an accident statistic.
Awesome review as usually, Darcy 👌
I've had my RS since the end of March (also in cosmic yellow), it's my third consecutive RS and by far the best, in both performance and handling, I know it's subjective but I couldn't disagree more with you re the exhaust and for anyone wanting to change the exhaust a slip on end can isn't an option it's a complete change from the headers back or nothing, I love the bike but have one small gripe, I don't like the TFT, Triumph's TFTs on the street triple started with the 2017 765 which was good the 2020 model not so good and the 2023 by far the worst with a much too cluttered look and the font too small but it's a minor gripe on a great bike.
Really have crazy laws on your side of the world
That bike actually suits you very well
That noise !!😮
Hope to see you or the old man's opinions on the kawasaki 900RS as it bridges both elements of modern & clasic look but slightly brutal i have been told. I also would love to hear what you would make of the W800.
We are looking to review a Kawasaki 900RS but unfortunately the W800 is not available in the UK anymore 👍🏼
"brutal"?
In looks, or power?
@@kwakithailand
Both, for aggression and its looks taken from the 70s Z1
@@Borntobemild2625 looks, yes, it looks plenty like that famous Z1/Z900.
However, it's quite easy, almost surprisingly forgiving to ride.
Supposed it feels to aggressive, put it in rainmode for a while.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan what about the z650rs?
the suspension is fully adjustable, i'd get it adjusted for the crappy roads to be honest

Thanks for the review-
I've always been on ADV bikes, but I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these to balance the garage. From what I'm seeing, this seems to be a great performance value, and yet it doesn't look like the typical sport bike that wild youths would go for.
Odd Question:
What kind of trousers are you wearing in the video? Have been looking for something like that but can't place them...
Keep the videos coming.
Thank you 😊
Here is a link to the trousers they are made by Fuel:

This is truly the most beautiful bike and it does look like a hornet, cheers Mr. Darcy
I currently own a Trident 660, but I did recently ride one of these at a Triumph demo event. The Street Triple is amazing too ride. Too bad it's really, really ugly in the front. Put a round headlight (or twin round headlights) on the front and I might go for it, but at this point, I'll stick to my Trident.
Fair enough, I’ve got the trident in the garage ready to test!
I love this bike in Cosmic Yellow, but I agree that it's ugly in any other color. I would love to ride a giant hornet. Honda's Hornet is a massive disappointment by comparison
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I think you will really like it. A bit more conservative styling, but with that really nice triple power delivery, smooth transmission, and excellent handling.
Oddly enough the first thing I thought as I saw this bike was a Wasp! Especially around the headlights! Nice but like yourself not my cup of tea! I also didn’t like the sound it made typically electronic in my opinion but if your into going like the clappers then why not give it a go! Good video & review 👍🏻
Dear Darcy Nice review Triumph triple RS 765🎉
Thank you 😀
I luv my 2024 STR 765 RS!
If they only changed the fugly headlight. Would look awesome. I’m sure they loose sales because of it… just like Yamaha.
Impressive bike, looks to be high tech, high quality, but not my cup of tea either. I would probably get in serious trouble with a bike like this! 😂
The problems with this bike, are if you a short rider there is no adequate way of making it safe to ride, if you are 6ft 2in then yo are catered for. if you go any distance the there is a constant concern with fuel, the back end is useless for fitting a top box , to secure helmet etc. if you go out for the day. Surely it not beyond Triumph to incorporate some adjustment for rider height
I'm 5'9" which is shorter than the average man in most western countries and I ride it with ease. Super light and easy to get at least 1 foot flat.
Best bike on sale today imho
The Hooligan, by Triumph Motorcycles...
Great review dude.. look forward to more Moto Guzzi vids 😊 ❤ Pete
Love the bite, hate the headlights, they need to bring back the twin round headlights. I literally refuse to buy this bike cause of those fugly AF lights.
