Call all these styles whatever you want...Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Karate, Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA...it doesn't matter as there is nothing magic about any of them; they are all simply throwing punches and kicks. The most skilled, most experienced, and best conditioned fighter will win regardless of style. No doubt a young Mike Tyson would have destroyed every single one of these guys.

I agree, it was nowhere near. It was possibly a 'referred pain' to the groin. I once got kicked there from an opponent on the ground during a fun-fight... It was an upward strike and I got a sudden sharp 'ripping' pain under the testicles, followed by a general ache in the whole area which did eventually gave way to a lasting pain in the side. The kick had landed nowhere near my testicles so it was either a referred pain - or - the blow had caused a pull on some connected tissue. Either way, it felt indistinguishable from a hard strike to the balls. I think that Choi may have genuinely believed he'd been struck below the belt.

I've had it before, from an abdominal kick from an opponent on the floor. In the moment, it can be indistinguishable from a strike to the balls. Basically a kick, like that one, can do a lot more than it appears to. Non-local effects _(and even non-local damage, in some cases)_ is really not that unusual.

This proves that Bruce Lee was always right: mixed martial arts ALWAYS wins. It's more dynamic and practical. Kung Fu is more than about fighting, it's part fighting but mostly philosophical and morally driven. It's about balance and respecting yourself and your opponent and largely ceremonial. Bruce Lee combined many things; Wing Chun, Aikido, Eskrima, and various other forms of kung fu because he was about finding that quick resolution to a conflict. Let's put it this way; real Kung Fu Masters don't challenge people. You are taught not to seek fighting and to do your part to diffuse/ refuse.
Is that why Marines are taught years of silly kata and other karate nonsense? Give it a rest. Martial arts like karate and kung fu are only useful against others who use karate and kung fu in a rules-centered environment.

I think that one of the biggest issues with kung fu is the lack of practical experience in comparison on average. No matter how much you practice, a single fight changes everything about what you know as a martial artist

If they charge money for teaching they should be sued for being charlatans. . It all starts with having a great teacher who is a trained fighter with combat experiences in kill-or-be-killed. My master was Mr. Jimmy H. Woo. He killed many men and everyone understood to not mess with him. Even Bruce Lee and Ed Parker came to his studio in El Monte, Ca to learn real fighting skills. The great Kathy Long kick boxing champ received her master from him. And many others. I have personally used Gung -Fu throughout my life for sport, work, and to defend myself, family and friends. With the correct mindset, training, and conditioned reflexes Gung-Fu is very effective. One final thing is real Gung-Fu doesn't look like that in action.
You're not wrong. Most kung fu schools lack frequent sparring, much less sparring outside their own systems. When I was younger, back in the 90s, we built a group to remedy that. At its peak, we had about 50 people from nearly 30 systems, everything from trad kung fu to kyokushin to boxers and wrestlers. We trained together three hours a day and learned to adapt what we knew to less orthodox situations. That training was invaluable.

If you can stay cool and counter off a big right hand, you can eat 90% of "street fighters" alive if it comes to an actual fight. Block high, kick the lead leg, and most of them are done.
I am a black belt in Tang Soo Do Karate (Northern China/Korea, Kung Fu is Southern China). No style (except MMA training which draws the best from every style) is a complete fighting style. Kung Fu was formulated to train groups of peasants to fight armed soldiers. It was not formulated for a prize fight between two people in a ring. If you want to do that then train MMA. Traditional martial arts have great value and the training is for actual world possibilities like multiple attackers etc. In the real world, your MMA training will not help you as much as Kung Fu or Karate. Believe me, combat in the actual world does not involve locking up and rolling around on the mat for 10 minutes! People tend to jump in and interfere. MMA is a controlled environment. The real world is chaos. Finally, traditional martial arts training is still a better method of training the masses of people and even for kids. Most people are not suited for MMA training but almost everybody can learn and practice Karate.

They're not fighting MMA, more like kickboxing. They don't even have MMA gloves. The true danger in MMA is that it incorporates striking, clinch, brawling, wrestling and submissions. Most traditional martial arts only deal with one aspect of fighting not a blend of them all.

Some of them could be called martial art masters. Not the majority. However most MMA fighters have better skills than most 'wannabe martial art' masters.

You are absolutely correct! Through full iron body training this is accurate. However, the purpose of training is to not absorb punishment. Physical toughness is the foundation just in case, backup system, if you will. I took good shots but my conditioning kept my mind strong and was able to weather the storm in a manner of speaking. Which allowed me to turn the tide effectively and successfully.
Interestingly, most fights shown here involved significantly older KF masters compared to MMA fighters, so even a mid-grade MMA fighter should top an out-of-shape KF master. It would be more interesting to see fights involving fighters with smaller age gap.

This proves that Bruce Lee was always right: mixed martial arts ALWAYS wins. It's more dynamic and practical. Kung Fu is more than about fighting,
it's part fighting but mostly philosophical and morally driven. It's about balance and respecting yourself and your opponent and largely ceremonial. Bruce Lee combined many things; Wing Chun, Aikido, Eskrima, and various other forms of kung fu because he was about finding that quick resolution to a conflict.
Let's put it this way; real Kung Fu Masters don't challenge people. You are taught not to seek fighting and to do your part to diffuse/ refuse.

It all starts with having a great teacher who is a trained fighter with combat experiences in kill-or-be-killed. My master was Mr. Jimmy H. Woo. He killed many men and everyone understood to not mess with him. Even Bruce Lee and Ed Parker came to his studio in El Monte, Ca to learn real fighting skills. The great Kathy Long kick boxing champ received her master from him. And many others.
I have personally used Gung -Fu throughout my life for sport, work, and to defend myself, family and friends. With the correct mindset, training, and conditioned reflexes Gung-Fu is very effective. One final thing is real Gung-Fu doesn't look like that in action.

You're not wrong. Most kung fu schools lack frequent sparring, much less sparring outside their own systems. When I was younger, back in the 90s, we built a group to remedy that. At its peak, we had about 50 people from nearly 30 systems, everything from trad kung fu to kyokushin to boxers and wrestlers. We trained together three hours a day and learned to adapt what we knew to less orthodox situations. That training was invaluable.
@user-mx7ob8fk1p self-defense is mostly mental and social. You want to see who you'll fight in the real world? Watch street beefs. Very little skill. They just throw haymakers and pray. If you can stay cool and counter off a big right hand, you can eat 90% of "street fighters" alive if it comes to an actual fight. Block high, kick the lead leg, and most of them are done.

I am a black belt in Tang Soo Do Karate (Northern China/Korea, Kung Fu is Southern China). No style (except MMA training which draws the best from every style) is a complete fighting style. Kung Fu was formulated to train groups of peasants to fight armed soldiers. It was not formulated for a prize fight between two people in a ring. If you want to do that then train MMA.
Traditional martial arts have great value and the training is for actual world possibilities like multiple attackers etc. In the real world, your MMA training will not help you as much as Kung Fu or Karate. Believe me, combat in the actual world does not involve locking up and rolling around on the mat for 10 minutes! People tend to jump in and interfere. MMA is a controlled environment. The real world is chaos.
Finally, traditional martial arts training is still a better method of training the masses of people and even for kids. Most people are not suited for MMA training but almost everybody can learn and practice Karate.

KungFu is not meant for actual fighting because I've not seen all these so-call KungFu masters ever win a MMA boxer. They get knocked out in no time. In addition, they don't seem to fight using their KungFu skills, but just like any boxers using their fists randomly.

They're not fighting MMA, more like kickboxing. They don't even have MMA gloves. The true danger in MMA is that it incorporates striking, clinch, brawling, wrestling and submissions. Most traditional martial arts only deal with one aspect of fighting not a blend of them all.

A great fighter is one who is able to absorb countless blows to his body without buckling.
You are absolutely correct! Through full iron body training this is accurate. However, the purpose of training is to not absorb punishment. Physical toughness is the foundation just in case, backup system, if you will. I took good shots but my conditioning kept my mind strong and was able to weather the storm in a manner of speaking. Which allowed me to turn the tide effectively and successfully.
Interestingly, most fights shown here involved significantly older KF masters compared to MMA fighters, so even a mid-grade MMA fighter should top an out-of-shape KF master. It would be more interesting to see fights involving fighters with smaller age gap.
Kung Fu really doesn't have a ground game. It's all strikes and kick's. You have to be able to at least be able to protect against the ground game.
