Love the approach here. Took my V4S out for a Sunday ride today and fully admit I have it merely because it's beautiful and it makes me feel great. Pointless. But my pride and joy.
Feel exactly the same way about my 1199S. My Hayabusa was way more comfortable to ride… I hate to say it… But my bike is basically just a trophy that everyone takes photos of while I’m riding down the street lol
For an “irrelevant” review, I found this video to be exactly spot on (and timely: I’m about to head off, on an ADV bike, to travel to my favorite two-day track school). I copied your 2019 video about touring on a V4S, riding one on a 3,600 mile journey, and had an absolute blast. I’ve had extensive experience with many variants of both the S1000rr and 1299/V4 bikes, on and off track, and found your assessment of their respective characteristics to be spot on. I’m fortunate to live near some wonderful mountain roads, which make the Ducati and BMW sport bikes really come alive. Thanks for the beautifully filmed and very inspirational video! I look forward to your 2032 irrelevant video on high performance sport bikes!
Neevesey and the MCN Team have always done a fabulous job covering these shootouts throughout the years, detailed, on-point, and precise. Much like the beasts that they had to enjoy and comment about. Astounding!

BEST motorcycle media/journalist/test rider/team in THE WORLD! Been waiting for the Superbike of 2022 for quite some time. Those outro pictures are legit guys. "Working with professionals" is exactly like this!🔥
What makes me love these bikes and their lesser variants is that all the good bits, the tech, the smart solutions, weight savings, they trickle down to the next generation lower models, which then trickle down to the next generation adventure tourers, until you start getting bikes like the S1000XR and the Multistrada V4 or the KTM 1290 SD GT, all amazingly capable bikes with all the relevant componentry from their superbike siblings like the high end monstrous brakes, electronic suspension and all those super high end rider aids.
Awesome video guys! Having owned the Panigale SP and the M1000RR I'd say your review is bang on. I'd still take the Ducati just based on looks alone :)
@@TheDucatiPilot the 21-22 V4 Panigale are far better than what the Speciale was. They really made some strong improvements...I also owned a Speciale and got to test a 22 on track...night and day difference!

Even better than usual bike commentary from Neeves. Highlights were the bike exhaust sound comparison - this should be in every video! Price-wise, they're all reaching, but you still probably can't get a Honda Civic for the same price...
Love the entire delivery of this shootout and category placement. Now, this is the creame de la creame of the biking world. U can’t go wrong going for any of these guys… but… u already heard the but in the video. Many thanks for this once again.
I’ve got a 2020 Aprilia RSV4 factory, added 11k miles in the last 11 months with not a single mechanical or electronic issue. Nothing sounds like a V4 engine! 6’4’’ so I’m nice and tucked in(little cramped). She growls, grunts and shakes, all to the full enjoyment of its riders. Aggressive geometry, though comfortable even at my height. I just bought a 2022 BMW S1000RR after weighing out both the M1000RR and the V4 SP2. The M1000RR at that price point without electronic suspension?! STILL needs a tune?! Makes no sense. 6-10K in additional accessories needed to make it a super track bike, I couldn’t make sense of it. 45K+ in other words. And it doesn’t even break 220HP! HP is actually equal to the S1000RR. Had they not added the Brembos to the M, that price point would’ve been even more ridiculous! The V4 SP2 just isn’t available anywhere. What listings you find start at 45k base price. I couldn’t reason with that investment over a 22k V4S or even a 38k V4R. Plus it’s hot as hell in Houston, so Ducati’s are already non-groin friendly. Add the dry clutch wear and servicing requirement, and it makes for a high $$$ investment up front, and for the long haul with servicing costs. Thus, I bought a brand new 2022 S1000RR for 19k with full Akro. Adding 3k forged wheels and doing a 1k Brentune Stage 2. Nothing else needed. 4K added to 19k initial investment, and I’ll have a faster bike than the base/fully stock M1000RR, for 15k less!
I have a m1000rr with BMW rearsets fits me perfectly ,I have just returned from the Isle of man and seen Hicky ride one if only I was half as good but I love the build quality and looks ,great video as usual mr Neeves.
I love how you’re “in the moment” and humbled by realizing where you are and what you’re doing…good for you!! I’m happy for you! I am blessed to get my dream bike a couple months ago, the 2022 Panigale V4S…amazing beast! Great video!
I just wrapped a video of a 7 bike Superbike shootout from 1972. Yeah that means a Kawasaki 750 H2, Suzuki GT 750, Yamaha TX 750, Honda CB 750, Harley 1000 Sportster, Norton 750 Commando, and 750 Triumph Trident. Basically a review from Cycle Guide's November 1972 figures. Nowadays the 1972 bikes wouldn't be considered super probably not even good but you could ride them on the street.
Gone are the days of the 1000cc shootouts. This new generation of super bikes are so good that it’s merely about picking the one that appeals to you the most and enjoying it.
Great video & an interesting approach to keeping it relevant. I don't really want, & to be absolutely clear, can't afford any of these bikes. However I'll always watch these shootouts as frankly they're just cool & the bikes are something special. They're the pinnacle of what can be achieved on two wheels for the road & that's something to be celebrated regardless of the practicalities. I suspect most bikers would still have one in their dream garage even it was just to look at & these beauties may not be with us for too much longer.
No regrets buying my '21 V4SP. It's made me a better rider all over. And when you can't ride, it's the only one I can really enjoy when it's in the garage.
The "bling" around his neck at 20:57 had me literally laughing out loud. I had a Tuono V4 until recently and could never get enough of that exhaust note. I'm sure I'll have another in the future!! I test rode the Ducati but just couldn't get over how much heat it threw on the lower body. No way I could ride it anywhere other than the track.
Very nice and honest review, I liked it. I want to make a point that RSV4 is the only bike there without carbon wheels, I think if RSV4 had carbon wheels, as the others do, then the verdict might have been different. But that is something for Aprilia to act on. On the otherhand, as you mentioned, we buy those bikes to feel special. Carbon wheels aside, it doesn’t have any carbon bits or blings at all, as the factory version used to had carbon all over the bike. Aprilia can you hear us; as a 4 time RSV4 owner (including ‘21) I can honestly say you need to make those bikes special again. As they are right now, Factory versions doesn’t feel so different than any regular bike. Bring the carbon back please :)
The biggest take away after riding the last gen Aprilia Factory was how much of a waste such performance would be tooling around on the street. I thought it was that good! I thought the performance was a waste on the bikes of the mid 2000s but today's machines are on a whole different level! I'd be pretty frustrated if I had to ride one of these on the street! Love the new video format! Now do one for all the more affordable superbikes. Base RSV, Pani, S1KRR, R1, CBR, GSXR, ZX10. Then us mere mortals can have a better understanding of bikes we can afford.
Excellent quality video folks! Obviously there has been a big push towards the likes of 44 Teeth in recent years but you when you see a professional production that's clearly had some decent money thrown at it (and talent at behind the scenes), there's no comparison really. And I say that as a small time You Tuber lol. Anyway it's gotta be the Duke for me!
Great review as always! In my country, the Netherlands, you wouldn’t dare call yourself “a tall person” though. On our side of the sea, 6’2” is quite tall, no more, and 6’6” (2 meters) is what we call tall. Must be the Vikings that raided our country a long time ago!
The rear shock spring rate on the RSV is light for most ‘non-Italian’s’… a taller/heavier rider needs to up the spring rate to get it right for track… on the road it’s perfect as standard for all but the fastest/heaviest riders. A 95 to 100kg spring quick and easy fix for for most to make it perfect on track.
Thank you for making this video I’ve been trying to find a reliable video on the new Aprilia VS other competitive brands ,trying to get the best bang for my buck 🤣
After a break from riding of around 25 years I decided to ease myself back into it, but I saw the SP2 and fell in love with it, so I got it. It's surprisingly easy to ride, easy to turn and gorgeous to look at (although they were a bit tight with the amount of carbon for the money). The sound is fantastic even with the stock exhaust. It was always a dream to own a Ducati from the moment the 916 came out and when I first saw a Foggy replica in Paul Smart's showroom. I will be taking it to the track in due course as there's no way to really explore the bike on the road - even in Street mode it's ridiculously quick. They don't make it easy to drop the levers down to a better place for ergonomics as they put a pin in there, maybe to make it easier to consistently put it together in the factory or (and) to prevent the lever from slipping? Annoying, but that's pretty much my only criticism so far.
That's awesome man, how did it feel jumping back on something like that after 25 years because initially you wanted to ease into it, but the SP2 is a top performer in its class
@@thedragonofechigo7878 It’s made me wonder why I went so long without a bike in my life. Honestly, it was astonishingly easy to ride. It feels like a much smaller bike, changes direction easily and I’m sure the electronics help enormously but it’s not intimidating. Litre bikes when I was young were much harder to ride if I remember correctly, despite having far less power. Having said that, opening the throttle wide open for a couple of seconds bends my mind. I’m currently prepping it to go on track with it this year. It’s far too quick for the road! 🙈😂
Funny - I've been hearing motorcycle journalists say for 30 years that manufacturers could not possibly improve their "super bikes." The mid-nineties CBR F3, the late ninetee's GSXR, and early 2000's ZX-10R were all considered the best (and fastest in-class) sport bikes that could ever be made....
For me it will be a dream to own the cream of the crop some day. I will approach it with an open mind to the fact that there will be a significant trade off for comfort. They really are a Sunday morning bike if not the track too. But a bike that should be owned by those that are looking to use it properly.
@@motorcyclenewsdotcom Great breakdown of that segment of the market. I wish there was a more affordable/usable "upper middleweight" segment of 750s and 800s, or just more options for a V4 config.
As always, I enjoyed your most sensible review done in such a humble way! Also very professionally presented (meaning no "dirty" words). I hear what you say about these bikes but I'd like to bring in depreciation over time too... what will each be worth, say in two year's time? My guess is that the Ducati may do good in this regards because it is so expensive, less will be available... and much more Aprilias, making them even more of a bargain - I guess (OMHO). Regards!
@@kp4918 You're dead on This fella is a class act. Neevsey is one of only a handful that I have kept subscribed to. None of the US journalist and bloggers come close.
Fantastic mate !
11:25 "Mallory on acid" made me laugh. Two of my favourite things combined in one sentence 😁
I still don’t know Mallory is lol
@@brotherakuma It's a really great little track in Leicestershire.
I'd buy the aprilla for the sound and use it as a second bike . love your videos as always.cheers
For me it will be a dream to own the cream of the crop some day. I will approach it with an open mind to the fact that there will be a significant trade off for comfort. They really are a Sunday morning bike if not the track too. But a bike that should be owned by those that are looking to use it properly.
Very nice edit. Love the crisp photos at the very end. Always grateful to see another Neevesy review by MCN 👍👍👍
Great video 👍
Great shots, editing, and especially audio of the interview and bikes. Needed the Norton V4SV, Honda RR-R, and Yamaha R1M added to the mix though...
See our 2022 superbike round-up to see where each of the bikes fit in -> th-cam.com/video/4SyOVf409LY/w-d-xo.html
@@motorcyclenewsdotcom Great breakdown of that segment of the market. I wish there was a more affordable/usable "upper middleweight" segment of 750s and 800s, or just more options for a V4 config.
Liked the goldie looking chain on Neevsey at 21:00
As always, I enjoyed your most sensible review done in such a humble way! Regards!
I agree. MCN seems to be the most professional in our community. I highly respect and value that.
@@kp4918 You're dead on
This fella is a class act. Neevsey is one of only a handful that I have kept subscribed to.
None of the US journalist and bloggers come close. If they do a decent job of reviewing bikes then their vile language or advertising for ball sack shavers and pubic soap has me dropping them.
Though they may not understand it, many of us still have higher standards and nobility.
Hi, for the road & a tall rider, do you think the S1000 has more comfy ergos than a GSXR1000?
