    Currently using 2 GoPro 10 Heros, one setup behind the backstop and one setup behind third base. Both at 4K "Tripod Mode" with a massive 36800mAh battery for each camera. The battery door is removed and have an aluminum gopro mount to dissipate the heat. So far no overheating here in Southern California, the other day it was 98 degrees and they kept running!
    For mounts I use the Ulanzi CM010 mounts and so far I really like them.
    For audio I use a Deity V-Mic D3 Pro shoved through the backstop fencing plugged into an old Galaxy phone using an audio recorder app that records .wav at 320kbps and 48kHz for the best sound ever! Don't have to listen to a parent talking about their sister's divorce all game...
    I do not stream but multicam edit in Davinci Resolve after the games and switch the angles based on the play or highlight.
    A 4K video lasting 1H:10Minutes exported at MP4 H.265 comes out to about 48GB for those curious. Using a 2021 Macbook Pro with the M1 takes 28 minutes to render and takes about 5 hours to upload and render 4k to TH-cam.

    Thanks for the recommendations Jason! You’ve helped me tremendously with live-streaming my sons baseball games. I’m looking to do a centerfield cam that I can zoom into the pitcher/catcher/batter, similar to the views we’re used to seeing on TV. What do camera do you recommend? I originally tried using a mevo cam but it doesn’t zoom in enough to get the view I’m looking for.

      If NearStream will get NDI released I could recommend it for the centerfield shot. But until then my recommendation is to get a PTZ camera with NDI for this.

      Yes. I also use the Yolobox Pro for home football games. My Mevos are on light stands on the track and i use a PTZ cam at the press box. For basketball its all Mevo. Sometimes for baseball I’ll mix the YBP in depending on how much time I have to set up. Thanks for the comment!

    Thank you Jason for all of the very helpful information. We are going to stream our team’s baseball games through GameChanger. We will probably stay with just one camera. Is the Mevo Start still your number one pick among the different camera options? Thanks again!

    • @JasonHoffmanYT

      It is still the basis on which I build my streams. For one camera some will use (and I'll try it on the road) the Emeet StreamCam One as a single camera setup going into GC or SLHD. Drawback is although we can crop in their software we still can't set static shot presets.

    Jason, track meet management has decided to do our own livestream, instead of farming it out to a third party. I can't find anything online about live-streaming a track meet, so softball/baseball/football is about the closest thing. Unlike those sports, a youth outdoor track is an all day affair in the heat of the summer. The wind can also be a problem. Battery life, heat protection and wind elimination are important. We also use an announcer. What is your recommendation for hardware and accessories?

    great video. I have been using a go pro 7 w/o battery and an external battery pack. had a few occasions where either the camera or battery pack got too hot and shut off. I tried streaming a few times, but my cell phone became super hot (and that's was not in the sun). Thinking of going over to a mevo. Are those weatherproof as well? When i use external power on the go pro i try not to use in rain since that spot is not weather protected

    From a HS softball volunteer coach, we greatly appreciate your information! We do use the Mevo cams, and yes… we’re still at your initial “cam over the shoulder” view. But a question I have for today, we want to video our tryouts/practice and have the video go to an external 2TB hard drive. (Not stream live) is this possible?

    • @JasonHoffmanYT

      YES, in Multicam when you press record you can choose to have it record to your external hard drive plugged into your ipad. Just tested this to be sure.

    What’s the best for attaching camera to a net backstop with block bottom about 3’ up.

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve attacked this same scenario using a tripod with a boom arm. If the pole holding the net is metallic I’ve also used a magnet mount. For either case I put the camera as close to the pole as possible and zip tie the net to the camera so it is peeking thru a space in the netting. Still a risk of catching a foul ball but its a good view for your at home audience.

    Hi Jason! Going to start streaming softball for our high school and need to find a good hotspot. I know that you use the Verizon 8800L, but would you recommend the NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 over that? Or is that just overkill?

      I had a nighthawk in my amazon cart yesterday and backed out on it. I'd really like to compare the difference between the two. I'm thinking the nighthawk will be better as a standalone, but I use mine with the Slate travel router so not sure I'll realize gains.

    Looking to take the leap from an iPhone 14 Max Pro to a Mevo. Just so torn if it’s the right move. Love to go with your setup….. just have no experience to know if it’s the right move or more beneficial. Thoughts?

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Are you streaming directly from the 14 Pro Max? Are you able to keep it cool for the duration of a game? If you decide to switch here are some pros:
      Adding the ability to have Static Shot Presets - tap the screen and you have a different shot in frame.
      Battery life is ~6 hours - you'd need an external battery bank for this kind of life with a smartphone.
      And cons:
      Camera is not the same quality as the iPhone
      iPhone 3x zoom lens gets you closer to the action

    • @TheDCRUAmpact
      @TheDCRUAmpact 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So I do need to keep it covered in direct sunlight. It does thermal if it’s not. Streaming straight to GameChanger, surprisingly the batter life is pretty good. Not six hours mind you, but I do use a back up supply. The drive to go to the Mevo is that I’m an assistant coach as well. So having the phone to monitor the stream and not have to run to the backstop is a benefit. Plus eliminating the thermal issues is a plus as well. I’d definitely be interested in your 3D printing products. The cover to stop the reflective heat is brilliant. All in all, I really hope it’s not a huge step backwards in terms of quality. The hang up on the iPhone is that I use a wide angle lens (-.45) but have to fix set the zoom to .9 otherwise the phone auto switches to another lens. Keeps going back and forth if you do move the lens. I do this to get the lattice of the fence out of the frame. Unfortunately the setting to disable the auto switch feature doesn’t work when you’re in GameChanger.

    Hey Jason- how easy is it to pair the Mevo camera with Game Changer? Also can the Mevo be used just for video and no streaming? If so is it easy to upload your Mevo video to You-Tube?

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Easy is alway relative to the experience of the user. I believe GC has a facebook group where you might see some other users’ experiences. Yes, recording is easy instead of streaming. Uploading is as easy as pulling the microSD card and getting it on a device to send to TH-cam.

    After watching your videos, I just purchased a mevo start to start streaming baseball games. Like most newbs, I placed it behind home plate, hanging on the fence. I cannot get it to zoom out far enough to get 1st and 3rd bases in the shot. Is there a setting that allows more "zoom out"? I've attempted to adjust the zoom settings, but it seems to adjust the zoom in. I need a wider shot, if that makes sense. Thanks for any and all help!

    I've just been using a GoPro Hero 9 w/ the accessory door that allows a USB to plug in and running it off my Ryobi drill batteries with Ryobi's USB to battery connection.
    I'm not livestreaming because in rural Asheville we don't have cellular data strong enough to livestream and the field is too far from the school to have an ethernet line to hook up to WiFi.
    Just uploading the games afterwards.
    But...my question is this. It rains at a TON of our daughter's softball games. How the heck can you have so many non-water or dust resistant cameras and batteries lying around and are able to wrangle them in time before they get wet/dusty/cooked????
    At least my GoPro w/ battery out will run a full 3 hours in a drizzle w/ the GoPro extended life battery internal if needed.

      Where I live gets some rain, but where you live is a sub-tropical rain forest! Early spring games sometimes require takedown, but when the threat of rain is real I usually pare down my setup to one camera and an ipad. Cant risk getting caught in a downpour with 4 cameras out there.

    Thank you Jason, this is very helpful! I may stream occasionally but what I really want to do is capture video of my son and his teammates then be able to edit the video into clips they can put on their own TH-cam pages. Would a Mevo Start paired with an ipad be your recommended route? If so would you record the video to the ipad, or an external drive connected to the ipad, then edit from there? And for editing, does the Mevo have an app that you would use or is there another app for video editing you would recommend. I see you answered a similar question below so apologies if all this has been addressed. Thanks! I have also seen where teams have streamed/recorded games through GameChanger and individual player clips were created there. I am new to all of this!

    Looking for some recommendations for one of our local teens that does great play by play for high school and local little league games. We typically stream via game changer. Mevo seems like the best camera option, but I am wondering if there is a setup that would allow for crowd noise and a mic for him to sit a little further back from the fence. Sometimes the play by play can be distracting for the players, so I want a way for him to be able to stream the video of the game and to do play by play at a distance from that camera without interrupting the flow of the game. Any recommendations?
