This is an awesome rundown! Thank you for taking the time to share your setup.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing your setup! I ensure not to miss this yearly video! Cannot wait to see the VM 33 over the shoulder shot. I will probably wait for the NDI support and will get the JH heat shield!
Yeah, waiting for built in NDI is going to be much simpler setup. I should have the redesign buttoned up this week.
The use of the Obsbot Tail Air for the side view camera caught my attention.
Great video. I'm looking forward to using the OBSBOT Tail Airs for 2024 sports.
If I can set up on the 1st base side it is possible to get tracking on the batter coming out of the batter’s box. At least I’m gonna try!
Master of Mevo!
Gonna be a great season!
Looks fantastic Jason!!! Yes can't wait for NDI on the nearstream cam...will really enhance my broadcast. By the way I'll be full-time in the Waco area mid March...
That’s exciting, we’ll have to meet in Corsicana and have lunch. Thanks!
Sounds great...looking forward to it!!!
I know what I am about to say is crazy. But 💯 the best chair out there is a yeti one. It’s very pricey but it’s so comfortable and folds up awesome, great bag as well.
Well you are the second one to recommend it so I’m at least gonna look. Thanks!
Yeti chair is what I use.
Claro, aquí tienes la traducción:
"Thank you for your videos. Can you make a video explaining about internet connections? What internet should I use or device? I have Mevo cameras and I use OBS on a laptop, and as an interface, I have the Zoom P4. I need to narrate the game. What confuses me is the internet, how or what internet should I use to avoid freezing?" Thanks
I love the videos. I tried getting the vm33 to work with zowie box but could not regonize the usb c output video. Waiting for the ndi support. Will be emailing for the heat shield for sure. I have a 3 Mevo start setup for pitcher catcher, field view from plate and first base, will get presets setup and move era Mevo to third view. And then the near stream to over shoulder pitcher catcher, have the two travel slate routers, but still need to add speedify to it.
Thanks. The zowiebox only recognizes HDMI in so you have to convert the signal out from vm33 from UVC to HDMI, then zowiebox converts HDMI to NDI. I only did this as a proof of concept. The NDI built into the vm33 will be the way to go. Sounds like you’ll have a great setup!
Do you have any from the cf views on pitchers? I need something and I think that view will be best for me? I figure if I run it live on the gc app I can pull the video from there. Not sure, about to start the journey
Thank you for sharing this. Your content is amazing and very informative. I’m looking to enhance our current stream and I think your setup is great.
1 question and I’m sorry if you answered this already. Are you running all cameras through Mevo multi cam… OBS?
This setup was through Mevo Multicam. Thanks!
The rocking chair one . I stream all our baseball games I needs some information and ideals if you have time
Absolutely. And thanks for the chair input
Great video; thanks Jason. What method are you using to sync up the audio and video of the Mevo Starts with the other (non-Mevo) NDI cameras, or, if you don't need to do that in your use case, any suggestions on best way to do that in a setting with tighter shots?
I only ever run audio from one camera. It’s just for game sounds. If I put play by play over it I’ll do this from my ipad and use it as an audio source in Multicam. The app syncs everything this way. If you need audio from an NDI source there is a delay adjustment in the settings for that device in Multicam.
If the table is adjustable I would go for a director type chair. You can see over people
Good thinking. Something taller would be nice. I adjust it up to be able to stand and use it so I’m guessing it would work. Thanks!
Hey Jason! Have you tested the battery of the Mevo Start using Rode VideoMicro? How much is the 6 hr battery life reduced when using the mic?
I'm planning to use a GL-AXT1800 travel router to load balance my T-Mobile Inseego MiFi X Pro 5G hotspot and my Verizon phone hotspot to "share" data between the two. Using two routers is cool idea, but I'm not out in center field yet!
The travel router will not disappoint!
Thanks for the review; sounds like you are all set. I think I got my 10,000 mah battery packs at Walgreens - you might try them.
Thanks for the tip! I’m certain it will change by April but this is where I’ll start.
@@JasonHoffmanYT Roger.
Hi Jason. Are you using a travel router for every camera? Thanks for creating content to help other streamers.
No just one for the outfield camera and one for all the infield cameras. Thanks!
Jason, great video as always. how could i use my gopro hero 10 black along with the multicam app?
As far as i know there is no way at the moment.
Jason, cell service is lacking where I am so I have added a 20' tripod for my behind plate shot(we have netting so I'm not hanging it on that). I got a shelf and have put my Orbit hotspot and GL net router up high. It works, but it's in direct sunlight. Any suggestions on keeping both from overheating?
you just need shade up there. would a small clip on umbrella do the trick or is it too windy?
How has the camera's performance been, and have you found the presets and zoom options to be intuitive during live broadcasts?
Which camera from this video are you referring to?
Wish I would have found your video before getting my GoPro 12. Lol Do you happen to have any tips on using the GoPro by chance? My son says he doesn't care for it much cause it seems like the video is being taken from too far away. I found how to zoom a little on the gopro through the pro settings, but it doesn't help all that much.
Have you ever tried a motion sensor iPod behind the fence? I’m worried the fence will obstruct the view if I use one
What do you mean by motion sensor iPod?
I'm looking into buying an AXT1800 to hook up to my mifi do you recommend that I hook it up to my main camera or my control device?
I like connecting it to my control device but know others have had success with the camera. Maybe try it each way and see which serves you better.
Which camera has wide angle? And can use indoor for streaming 10 plus hours?
Emeet StreamCam One has a 90° FOV, Mevo Start is 84°, NearStream VM33 is 80° and the Obsbot Tail AIR is not listed but almost identical to the Mevo Start. All of them should stream for extended time if powered externally.
Hi Jason,
Do you worry about weather proofing? I’m real interested in the CF camera. I’m running 3 cameras now and editing the highlights later so I don’t miss my kid playing.
Yeah, weather is still a stream killer. No camera on the market streams well AND is weather proof. There is one I’m testing which fits this niche but its had a couple of software delays already.
Do you have any videos showing the editing process of the vidoes being caputured.
I’ve done a couple of LumaFusion attempts at editing tutorials. It’s a great app. Can be done in the field on your ipad/android
Hi Jason! May I ask an unrelated question? I use a NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 mobile hotspot. Sometimes, it will overheat to the point of turning off, even while indoors. I’ve heard that removing the battery and running it off of a portable battery pack would solve the issue. Is this true, and/or advisable? Thanks in advance!
I dont have experience with the Nighthawk specifically but all batteries generate heat when discharging. Removing it will remove some of the source of the heat buildup.
I’m missing something. How do you “bridge” the hotspot internet to the AXT1800 router? USB-C to Ethernet adapter into the WAN port? Or does the router get internet access some other way?
Yes, usb-c to Ethernet adapter from the hotspot to the WAN port of the Slate.
Hey Jason looks like a great setup. I am curious about the tail air. I would like to use one for catching some outfield as well. If it was placed at the far end of the first base dugout do you think it would be able to get a decent outfield shot? I'd also like to use it for football in the fall. Obviously not streaming in 4k but by using that sensor and streaming at 1080 do you think it may work?
It MIGHT have enough to give you the outfield shot you’re looking for from the end of the dugout. I think it would take one at the end of each dugout to cover the whole outfield. I’m going to try to put one with my outfield camera and see if it will track the centerfielder. He should move enough to catch a lot of outfield action.
@@JasonHoffmanYT that is a good idea I hadn’t thought of. That would work even if he doesn’t catch the ball he will be heading that way.
@@jeremykenney3589 Exactly my thought, he backs up every play and the view following him should catch everything but the foul lines. Now if we can just make the camera stay on him.
What case do you have on the Mevo to allow the Microphone to mount to it?
It’s one I print and sell. Email me via the link in the description if you’d like to start an order.
What do you have your little router sitting on that's attached to the tripod? Same for what looks like a battery holder attached to the tripod ?
it’s a simple little shelf I print with a 1/4 20 nut heat pressed in. the battery holder is a cell phone mount
@@JasonHoffmanYT Do you happen to have the STL available? Thanks again for your videos.
I just wish I could run my single mevo start. I have all kinds of issues just trying to stream to gamechanger.
Same here with my Mevo. I ended up using my phone.
I’ve only ever had one mevo that gave trouble connecting to the app. It would up to about 10ft then wouldn’t. Always assumed it was just glitchy. Wound up using it at church connected to ethernet.
Hey Jason, since you are not using your zowitek hdmi to ndi converter, you should send it over my way, so it doesn't just turn into a paper weight! hehehehe
I like the way you think, but I’m actually using it just not in my baseball streams.
@@JasonHoffmanYT it was worth a shot 😉😁
I grabbed a Movespeed 70000mAh Power Bank from Amazon last fall and it was a big addition to my setup. I used it to power my travel router (which in turn charges my phone since I use it as a hotspot connected to the router via usb). I found that on average it used about 5% of the battery life per game (10u baseball).
I keep the power bank and the router strapped into a Cocoon accessory organizer which stays in a travel backpack.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing
When I have streamed I still always felt the Mevo was to soft, GoPro to many issues, so using a phone was my go to but wanted to play around with Multicam and did some. I am curious what keeps you from doing two VM33's instead of Mevo? Or using an iPhone for the primary shot as an input to Mevo Multicam?
VM33 only allows linear shots. I can have 1st base, pitcher and 3rd base in view and can zoom to each spot. But to try and catch home or 2nd with that camera means physically moving the camera. With the presets Mevo offers or the pan/tilt a PTZ offers I can get more shots with each camera. As for using the iphone as primary shot its just because it havent done it. Would work great if shaded/not in full sun.
@@JasonHoffmanYT Thanks for the quick reply. I had pretty good luck with a good sunshade and always ordering a white iPhone. :) Got to have priorities... Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
New at this starting last fall. Setup is:
Mevo start
Inseego MIFi hotspot through Verizon
iPad connected to hotspot for mevo app
iPhone on data to score on gamechanger
Main issue I had is stream not fully transferring to gamechanger after it was over. Instead of a single hour and thirty min video it would save as multiple short videos around 30 seconds to 2 minutes. People watching the live stream always said it was fine during the stream.
Is it a connection issue? GameChanger issue? Super frustrating…if anyone has any advice I’m all ears!👂
It’s a GameChanger issue. The fact the stream is fine lets you know it’s how they handle it once it’s over.
Do you think you could use the obsbot in place of mevo? Like behind the plate. Do you think it would hold up in the heat for a whole softball game? Thank you.
I would have not doubt about it handling heat. You’ll have to keep it plugged in to a power bank as the battery wont last for an entire game, but this will actually help with heat.
Thank you for replying. Could I use it behind the plate like you do with the mevo? What would the field of view be, could you see first and third? Thanks again
They dont publish a FOV number but we’ve tested it to be really close to the Mevo Start. Whether you can see 1st and 3rd will depend on the distance between the mount and home. If you are trying to peek between chain link you’ll lose your panning as well (or have the fence in view when you do pan).
will hollyland mars work with mevo app?
The wireless HDMI unit? Mevo doesn’t produce or receive an HDMI signal, so no.
Do I need Portable Wi-Fi if I need to stream? What’s the best out there
It definitely helps if you are going to places you aren’t familiar with. A lot of folks start with the data on their cell phone and find the MiFi hotspot is a better choice. The best one will depend on the service where you live and stream. Nighthawks come more highly recommended than any i know of.
We saw 95% of you rather than the setup.
Noted
what is that white cover on the mevo camera? can you please give me the link? thanks.
It is a heat shield with cold shoe mounts. You can start an order by clicking the email link at jdubhoffman.com/merchandise
@@JasonHoffmanYT thank you so much
Jason, love your videos! Unbelievably helpful. I'm going for a CF camera shot and just bought a VM33, not realizing it didn't support NDI. Is the only way to get it to output NDI and show up in Mevo Multicam by using a Zowiebox? And is that your setup? You mentioned a UVC to HDMI converter but not sure what that would do in this situation.
Thanks for the kind words. The VM33 is slated to have NDI in the 1st quarter of this year. As of now it outputs a webcam (UVC) signal via its usbc port. This has to be converted to HDMI by a converter which then has to be converted to NDI, which the ZowieBox does. I originally did this as a proof of concept, not intending to actually set it up and use it this way. I’ll wait on them to get NDI ready for the VM33 and use it as my ‘away’ CF camera.
Gotcha. I may not be able to wait it out for the VM33. Son's senior year of high school ball, so my last season to pull it off! Have you ever tried attaching a clip on telephoto lens to an iPhone to get a similar optical zoom based solution that just works with the Mevo Go app into Mevo Multicam? If so, do you have a recommended clip on lens product?@@JasonHoffmanYT
I may not be able to wait out the VM33 and NDI - senior son's final high school season underway!@@JasonHoffmanYT did you ever try attaching a clip on telephoto to an iphone from CF and using Mevo Go to connect it? If so, any recs on a good clip on telephoto lens? I'm considering trying this vs. hoping NDI comes in time on the VM33.
@@matt-marenghi no, my solution for home games is an NDI ptz camera. Multicam picks it up seamlessly
@@JasonHoffmanYT I see. Obsbot tail air? Or another brand? Looking for somethign with good optical zoom which is what drew me to the VM33.
Can this setup save video to create highlight videos?
Yes. It can save the program output on the iPad and/or each camera's entire feed.
What platform are you streaming to, that doesnt shut the stream down for copyright violations when background music is played?
TH-cam. They will give a copyright strike if the music is picked up but this doesn’t harm your stream or channel if you are not monetized.
Hi Jason. Do you think that the NDI to VM33 is coming with a firmware update?
This is how Mevo did it when they added NDI to the Start so I’m guessing so.
@@JasonHoffmanYT Thanks Jason - so I go ahead and by this cam :-)
Hi Jason… Do you by any chance know if there is an updated video available anywhere with detailed instructions to add Speedify to the Slate router? I followed Eric Grunderson’s (sp?) video from awhile back, but I’m screwing up somewhere… I’ve pretty much fried two Slates. I’d be willing to ship my router to someone and pay them to add Speedify for me at this point. Any suggestions? And thank you for all that you do…you have been a big help and inspiration as I am constantly expanding my streaming ability to multiple youth sports!
I used Erik's tutorial as well but uninstalled it. I felt it was much simpler to bond on my iPad (iPad cellular connection and the MiFi hotspot direct to the Slate). What data sources are you combining?
I have two Netgear Nighthawk hotspots - M6 running T-Mobile, and an M1 running AT&T. My iPad also has cell service through T-Mobile. What would you suggest to maximize my stream stability?
How did you bond without Speedify firmware?@@JasonHoffmanYT
I use Speedify to bond the connections. Works great in your particular instance because of the two service providers.
Speedify is where I get confused. I tried using Smoothwan and Speedify on a Slate router…never got it working. Where do you have Speedify - on your iPad? If so, would you be so kind as to explain how to set it up? Thank you sir!
OBSBOT said their charging base will be available in March
The 360° base? Awesome!
@JasonHoffmanYT Jason, very good info on this subject. If you could use only one camera to stream, what would it be and where would you place it? Thanks
@@louisharris7741 unfortunately even this simple question has caveats. If it’s a chain link fence at the park I’d run a Mevo at the backstop, peeking thru the fence. If it has a net I’d use an Obsbot Tail AIR at the first base dugout. Both offer cropped presets for multiple views from a single camera setup.
jason i live in mabank and i am trying to use the mevo camera without wifi can u help me
I'll be glad to try. Would you mind emailing me via the address listed in the video description?
Will you be making a heat shield for the emeet???
I’ll be designing this week and we’ll see what comes of it. I’ll post the results. Thanks for asking.

@@JasonHoffmanYT Thank You! I want to start live streaming amature league cricket matches. Working on a super tight budget.
Good stuff, where can I watch one of your baseball game broadcasts?
Its not this setup, new equipment, but I’m testing the Mevo Core/YoloBox Ultra combo tonight on @mytownusa
I havent had a chance to look at the stream but the crops look fuzzy to me
@@JasonHoffmanYT The crop on the scoreboard is very clear and looks 1080p, the standard view you are using for pitcher and catcher and partial infield looks lower quality , 480/720. Same for 1B crops
The setup is whole infield (1st to 3rd) via NDI then cropped for pitcher/catcher and 1B. Scoreboard is optical zoom from another core. 3b is from cropped Obsbot tail air
The winds were too high at setup time to do much. Its pretty still now
@@JasonHoffmanYT You do a great job. The crops def appear lower quality. The optical zoom on the scoreboard from the core is very sharp. When the outfielder is standing in front of the scoreboard, his face is very clear.
Good afternoon Jason got a question for you sir
Shoot
I don’t quite understand how you stream more than one camera through the GameChanger app.
you’re still only streaming one camera at a time, but you have the option of switching cameras for different views. Here’s the GC help article covering it teammanager.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/19222212861197-Live-Stream-from-a-Mevo-Camera
What are the downsides of YoloBox for the baseball stream setup?
Only 3 NDI inputs and this only on the Ultra for now. Otherwise it is a great solution.
@@JasonHoffmanYT Can you explain more on how many cameras are you connecting with? What are they? Would it be good that if I connect 2-3 wired HDMI camera for better connection and quality plus some wireless NDI sources?
What’s the total cost of your setup? Looks like about 3k.
Pretty good estimate. Subscriptions (Mevo Pro, data, Speedify) have to be figured in too.
