    UPDATE: Since there seems to be quite a bit of confusion about it, I've created a new video called "Alex Lifeson's Rock Hall Acceptance Speech: FINALLY TRANSLATED!". Hopefully, it finally clears that up:

    I keep watching this video over and over. I was in high school in the late 70's/early 80's and they were the band. Sure, I liked other bands, but I always came back to Rush. I've introduced my entire family to them and every day that goes by we listen to at least a few Rush songs. They were right, the fan base is just solid. Never wavering. The road trips to concerts in the early years I remember well. I was just so happy when they made it there.

    Here is something allways cool from Rush, captured on the video. Been listening to them for 30 years, and at that moment, all of them are just playing and having fun, as their first videos. They are playing together and never caring they are playing on their Hall Of Fame Induction. They say something like "lets rock, and forget about everything........" Well, for inspiring thousands of musicians and drummers like me, I am so sorry to tell you that Neil and Taylor cant be forgotten, as well as the great musicians, that live in our hearts forever and ever. At least I can say I lived that era, and Im proud of that. Cant forget anybody who has inspired and/or taught us something that will last a lifetime. This guys overpass time and words....they were born for that. To never die. Im not impressed if there is a drum analisis of Neil in a Drum Book in 70 years when most of us are not here. RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
    With heart felt admiration and sincerity!
    Gary

      I just thought of something in examining the Professor’s last name: the first that caught my eye 👁 was ART- artist, artistic expression in both music and lyrical content. Second: PE as in physical education as in the Stamina it takes to play drums and in particular at a EXCEEDINGLY HIGH LEVEL!!! So we can deduce through his last name that we have an ARTIST in every sense of the word and Physical Education in terms of stamina and physicality to play at level that boggles the mind and soothes the Heart! Rest In Peace Professor there will never be another like you!
      Sincerely,

    I saw a 3 man band in Aylmer Quebec in the 90s . The band's name was "Vehicle " . The drummer looked like and sang exactly like Getty Lee and they played all Rush songs with perfect likeness .
    I always wondered if that was Rush playing but just letting Getty Lee play drums and Neil play bass .
    Getty Lee's voice and looks are unmistakable . I believe that for a $6 cover charge , I got to sit next to one of the greatest bands ever , doing one of the rarest of shows ever .
    I don't think anyone in the crowd even knew . I think they were fooled. I could only stay for 4 songs and 2 beers and had to leave. I'd like to know for sure if I was right.

    Rush played the bar circuit in the 70's. They played at a hotel my dad was running, in Smiths Falls, Ontario.They were so loud that the wait staff couldn't hear the customers orders. He asked them to " turn down" . They didn't , so , he went up and pulled the plug on them.
    They were much quieter afterwards.

Sitting in the low rider chair with 2 speakers pointed my way, listening to THE FLY BY NIGHT ALBUM !That's all she wrote, I was hooked on these Guys, what's their name again, ohhh yeah RUSH ! I told all my friends about them, some didn't like them, and I didn't care! But a few of them did , I stood my ground, and most of them came around! LOL! I just wish RUSH would release their entire catalog of music in 5.1 DVD-AUDIO. Signals, Snakes & Arrows, Moving Pictures, Fly By Night and A Farewell to Kings are good 5.1 mixes but they’ve got so many more albums that could really benefit from a surround sound mix imo.

      @@77perudo IKR! I didn’t start really getting into DVD-AUDIO until the last SUV I bought had a 5.1 surround sound system in it. I absolutely love it. Once you’ve heard multi channel music you’re hooked. I bought around 12 DVD-AUDIO discs when that format first came out in the early 2000s but almost 20 years later I’ve really added to my collection. Because most of the titles I’ve bought are OOP I’ve paid a premium price for them. Every once in a while I’ll come across a decent deal but most have been $80 and above each. My favorites are any 5.1 release by Porcupine Tree, Genesis, Rush, Sting, Billy Idol, Bryan Adams, Roxy Music (SACD multi channel not DVD-AUDIO) Simple Minds, Queen, Steely Dan, Dire Straits, and several of the Silverline Records sampler discs that have some really great tracks on them. I’ve got around 110 multi channel discs now and have spent way too much money on them.

    For everyone criticising on Geddy's voice, and saying it's good that "they packed it up when they did". Rush did the R40 tour, 2 years after this and Geddy's voice was perfectly fine. You can see them struggling with the monitors, and the whole thing sounds a bit off, so the sound wasn't great and they weren't receiving proper feedback. That probably helped him having trouble with the singing. And likely Geddy was having vocal issues when this happened, because they played live plenty after this and he sounded ok.

    • @cygnus-studios
      @cygnus-studios  ปีที่แล้ว

      Like most bands nowadays, they use in-ear monitors. Regardless, I'd rather hear his voice naturally instead of using pitch correction, which I despise.
