Thanks to the two fellas for allowing us all to see around the old airport it's been a privilege. And obviously thanks again George for all your efforts. Roll on 2025!
Another great video George, awesome content. I’m fearful for you sometimes in the closed conditions you encounter at times, you might want to consider wearing some sort of air monitor to alarm you if the air quality is poor or compromised, I’ve no idea what type of device and I’m not lecturing just an observation, take care my friend, Love the videos
Thanks marky glad you enjoy the content I used to have a 4gas meter years ago which gave you air quality underground it broke and i never replaced it as they were expensive at the time Im with you though i do need to invest in one as next year i plan om doing more underground stuff Thanks for watching mate lots more vids on the way
Funny start to the vid, made me chuckle that. Good for going back, you need to invest in some Scuba gear mate. All the best and have a good one, looking forward to upcoming vids in New Year 👍
Amazing you went back! and plan to keep going! the old runway goes a long way right to the mersey, hope you get to explore all the old underground tunnels of Liverpool there is a lot of them! Old Liverpool Railways knows them all haha
Id have carried on but that water was deepl too deep infact ha ha Im doing a lot more underground stuff next year rail tunnels and more underground rivers etc Thanks for watching much appreciated
It may not be much but im really interested in the well opposite that borehole thing has got me thinking Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video
Thanks chris thanks for watching glad you enjoyed it I think the end of this tunnel is other sidr of the estuary park its doable but a wetsuit i reckon lol
Hi George, got sent your channel by my oldest Son recently. Because I used to work there in 1993 on Security, well before the Hotel and retail park, yes I’m officially old! Haha. I,ve Subscribed now, I enjoyed the Tower video too, I used to sit at the top on Nights, it was a good observation point of the whole place. There is a single seat, right at the top, couldn’t do it now,I’m now scared of heights, lol. There was a steel stair case up when I was there and I’ve climbed the escape ladder a few times, it’s a good height! I have looked down the tunnel, but never had the bottle to go down, wouldn’t have been a good idea by myself. I was told it was a maintenance tunnel for the runway lights and was a hatch on the far side of the air field, but never found it. On the Left near to Banks Road, was an old Hanger for Dollar Helicopters and various flying schools, now David Lloyd. On the Right was an old hanger, where the Police trained for riots, now Very, Yodel etc. As being a trained confined space rescue, you really do need at least a gas detector, glad you didn’t come to no harm though. Was an excellent video, really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work. All the best mate! 👍
thanks so much again GEORGE for doing this follow up video .. think you may need a wet suit under the waders to go any further 😥.. keep up the good work 👍
Lovd the vid mate as always mate, the cables under the runway are for fixed red obstruction lights up to the boundary of the airport there was also four huge floodlights plus high powered lighs in all the hangers that were for emergency use should the four spolight towers go down plus white lights along the landing area to allow for take off the cables and electrical components were by marconi merry Christmas george wishing you wealth health and happiness 🙏
Mate I love these videos you post on TH-cam. I watch them on the big telly with my earbuds in and I feel like Im am there with You😂.Obviously I am to much of a shithouse to do that but thamks mate my ❤ in in my mouth when I watch some of your content.Briliant mate wwll done Thank You God bless 🙏🏻
Maybe the water tablet is low i8n that area and sump pumps kicked in when the level reached a dangerous level ?. All those hooks in the tunnel might of had serves cables on them , Could the cables been for the apron/ runway light's., Non potable water can be used for flushing toilets in high level areas and also used for sinks that are only used for maintenance. Great video, George
Wow, that water is deep George. When you do go down again, let’s hope it’s third time lucky and you get to the end. Possibly the water level might drop nearer summertime.
It was a horrible feeling walking in such a cramped space and feeling the water rise and the waders getting tighter ha ha If it was 10 or so years ago id have carried on and juat got soaked lol Im assumkng the water is coming from that borehole thing leaking into the tunnel but im not %100 sure Thanks for watching brian merry xmas
Dry suit and fins and a small float for your cameras would work. A kayak would be too big i think. I would get a small voltage trster and ping those cables just to be sure they are not live. You never know ⚡ interesting little mooch mate 👍
I've been through that tunnel end to end and sadly it's not very exciting. Originally, the control cables for the radar passed through there along with some other ancillary stuff. Your map is also off. Hard to map when underground! Drop me a message if you want more info.
Finally someone who has been in it before the flooding! so does the tunnel follow the whole old runway right the way to end of mersey? was there other exits?
Yeh i did say i wasnt completley sure on where i was etc Where is the water coming from then and what is the borehole opposite the fence Not very exciting to some but to me its never been shown before and the water makes it so interesting
@@g2emedia1977 The tunnel ends at the edge of the apron in a small room. The only exit is upwards through a hatch. Sadly, it doesn't go any further than that. The borehole came after the area over the fence was landscaped and the warehouses were built. Previously, this was all just a flat field - we brought the Britannia aircraft in across that - backwards! The water is more than likely just rainwater. The drains on the apron are all blocked so it all runs downhill to where the hatch is. Agree that the water makes it all a bit more mysterious, and even in Summer - you'll find the lower elevation to be flooded. We wondered about the tunnel for a long, long time before finally exploring it. We had one visitor tell us that their grandfather used to go through the tunnel each night to go and light the acetylene lamps on the (grass) runway. No WWII connection really I suppose, although the apron (and tunnel) were laid down by Costains in 1939 (if my memory serves me). Told you it wasn't that exciting - sorry!
Hi George, That tunnel is so long.l do think it slopes, and that's why the water level is so high, so l think you might be right. It's best to explore the tunnel in dryer weather. It's a great video 👍
My uncle use to work at the old Airport he said he’s never seen them tunnels but there is more underground parts that had big diesel back up generators. I’m going to ride over there with him he will show me were the access to were u get in I’ll pass it on to you G2E
That's a lot of water. How did it get in there and how much does the level change through the year? Could be a project there for you George if you fancy it. You could do your own survey and give them a copy so they know what's what. Happy Christmas George 👍
Maybe it is not River Mersey? But tidal the drainage ditch from when was like farm field, covered over leads down and out into the river mersey? If river mersey water I think would sillted up by now, and the water looked on the clear side to me? and Im assuming you would thingingt finger mouth testing it? would you?
Decent cant wait for part 2. Fun fact the canal bridge on boundary st is riddled with german ww2 planes bullet holes. The pilot was aiming for the train tracks which run parallel into the city center. The plane crashed into the canal. Then we were talking about the gaps in the house's around bootle Walton area where the planes bombed the area. You can see the bullet holes in the white cast iron bridge on Google maps maps.app.goo.gl/uK5xwSgecf96pXjL9?g_st=ac
Great vid again mate can’t wait to see what’s at the end when you finally make it haha all the best

You'll have to try and find the plans for the tunnel, and look for the plughole.
Id love to see plans for that whole are i reckon theres more tunnels around that area left from the airport days

Shouldn't they be doing something 🤔 about this flooding? Won't it affect the hotel etc at some point?
Its never flooded the hotel and its not directly under the hotel its a bit of a distance from it outside so doesnt affect the hotel at all
