      Vintage Views out of all the hobbies I’ve had over the years this is by far the most satisfying, can’t wait to see the whole drill press come back to its former glory 😊

    Great restoration just like the motor on the drill press that chuck came from. I saw that video yesterday and was amazed with the detail quality of workmanship that went into that. I can’t wait for the next instalment.
    I am also amazed with the few parts that went into a chuck. I’ve never seen one disassembled before. Thanks from Australia.🇦🇺🙏

      Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed them! I was surprised by how simple the chuck was, first time I've ever opened one of this type, I thought they'd be more complex! Made for a nice simple little resto though! Thanks for watching!

    I woulda guessed at there bein some kind of "sprung" assembly inside a chuck, didn't know the insides were like that..... I woulda been expecting a spring or 2 to go flyin if I took it apart 😆
    Nice one lad 🤙

    I know it's essential but there's something about re-greasing a nicely cleaned part that just messes with me. I remember my mate doing an engine rebuild on an old Mini Cooper and he had to strip this certain part of all the oils/grease on it to find a defect he needed to fix. He had it in this tank over night and when it was hosed off you could've eaten your dinner off it. Then when he found and dealt with the defect he went and coated it in oil again.. I've never gotten over it hahaha.
    Great work mate, looking forward to seeing the restoration on the drill press.

      I know what you mean mate, took me ages to polish up and then just covering it in grease... needed doing though!

    Just one thing to change, to remove the taper, put a pin just loose in the jaws and press it, taper will come out easily.
    Thank’s for the video, it was very interesting.

    Thank You - At last someone does it properly - It's surprising the number of "how too's" that just use a dash of oil and leave it at that

    Awesome restoration! I’m curious as to what kind of degreaser you used, though. Just bought something similar to that and I’m planning to restore it as well.

    Just discovered your channel. Nice work! What kind of grease are you using?

    • @sparesorrepair9118
      @sparesorrepair9118  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was just a standard gear grease, that's what it appeared to have in it originally. A light oiling would probably have been good enough though!

    My chuck looks exactly like that. I bet one plant makes them all and imprints what ever name and logo the DP manufacturer wants.

    Totally onboard with repairing this piece. Prob save yourself a couple hundred bucks if it's a good chuck. But all that polishing? I don't mind if my tools have a bit of a weathered look. After all, that's how I earn my money.

      Перед съемкой этого видео он уже был пропитан обезжиривателем, картридж действительно плотно прилегает со свежей смазкой для сборки потребовалось еще 14 тонн давления, и теперь он работает очень хорошо. Я использовал переводчик, так что извините, если ответ трудно понять!

    Is it not just a Jacobs chuck 🤔

    • @sparesorrepair9118
      @sparesorrepair9118  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s very similar in design but not a Jacobs brand chuck, I’ve not seen the makers brand before, it’s a ‘HS’ in a diamond, can’t find any info on it

  • @BruceNitroxpro

    Much of what you show is chemical in nature... be very careful about maintaining vapor removal correctly. Some vapors are heavier than air. Since my father in law died of chemical vapor inhalation, I feel compelled to remind anyone using these chemicals to be very, very careful.

    • @sparesorrepair9118
      @sparesorrepair9118  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I work at a chemical plant and deal with nasty stuff every day so am always careful and wear appropriate protection! If I ever use anything that gives off nasty fumes then I’ll be sure to highlight the fact, everything so far is pretty harmless 👍

    3:20 those gloves ain't offering a lot of protection ............... just saying

    • @sparesorrepair9118
      @sparesorrepair9118  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only reason I wore those gloves was to keep my hands cleanish, I can run my hands against the bristles of the wheel all day long and not get hurt. Wearing protective gloves near rotating machinery isn’t a good idea tbh, if they get caught they’ll drag your hand in. I wear eye protection rather than using guards on the machinery, get better control that way
