I've been watching/listening to KPOP for a decade, and this is the first group where my vibe with them is best described as "Proud Parent," lol. Like I feel like a proud parent watching them work so hard and finally debut and make great music and choreo.
It's iconic how you called out every aspect of the song based on experience 😂, and i agree with you that there are part of me that wish Baemon will break the YG formula, and debut with something fresh
You called it Kaia. And I like your thoughts on minors debuting, especially Chiquita at 14. Who are we to stop a phenomenal talent like Chiquita from going after her dream. I also agree that she has the charisma to be center. I've watched this MV over 50 times, counting the reactions, and It just looks to me like they are all having the time of their life, despite the work they put in.
I don’t expect YG to change their formula for the title tracks nor do I want them to ‘cause it works, but when it comes to the rest of the album, I pray they just let them unleash their powerful vocals
I love it ! It suits them well, they are young and very confident. I can't wait for their next MV. To those people who are disappointed, the only reason is, they keep comparing Babymonster to their seniors and other YG artists, but for me, as a Blink and only discovered kpop because of Blackpink and never watched other groups, until Babymonster, i love it, i support them all the way, the same way i am supporting Blackpink. I enjoyed both concept. You may say i am an ignorant kpop fan, yeah maybe, but, i do not consider Blackpink as kpop idols, same with Babymonster, for me, they are world class performers.
A lot of non yg stans wanted them to do something 'different', but we love the yg bass, energy rap and beautiful mv's. Of course as a debut they needed to produce a banger. No doubt they will have their 'stay' and their 'whistle', but r and b etc as well. But so glad we got our first 6 girl bass banger...we can't stop dancing
In the press release that YG had about Ahyeon, they referenced BABYMONSTER probably having a comeback in the early part of next year, so that they could reintroduce Ahyeon when she gets healthy, because if you look at their formations, there are certain spots that you can see for a fact that they left a pretty sizeable gap, presumably where Ahyeon would be, which would lead to me believe that she will come back to the group at some point and at that point YG probably will release an album for them as a true "Here I am." to the world, I saw this as a sort of pre-chorus to a major drop corresponding with the return of Ahyeon.

If you look at this from a marketing perspective, this song seemed right to me. They have a 14 and 15 year-old in this group and most are under 18. Pushing a girl crush concept too hard might not sell, nor would an R&B concept. This song aggressively pushed the idea that they're the next ones up to bat and they're going to hit it out of the park, but without going too sexy or adult. For a new group, it can be chancy to try to introduce a new concept with their debut song, so a song like this that shows off their skills, is catchy, and sticks in peoples heads can be a good introduction and get a necessary amount of attention without locking them into a perceived "Oh, they're THIS type of group." I'm more interested in where they go from here. I think that YG took the "safe route" here, perhaps to avoid the controversies that other GG's with young members fell into. BTW, expectations are the objectivity killer. We all tend to see what we expect to see, so it's better to put expectations aside, and evaluate something on what it is. Your assessment was spot on and quite fair, but it necessarily colored your assessment of the song. Not criticizing here, just commenting. ;) Overall great reaction, as usual.
I absolutely loved it! Like you though the outro was my least favorite part however on a debut track the YG formula makes sense. Additionally they have so much talent that the sky is the limit for possibilities of future releases. The rap line especially for me 100% 🔥
Those expectations you mentioned are probably reserved for the babymonsters' solo endeavours, I suppose. YG will not change their successful formula that works for them, and they shouldn't, as that's how they survive in the music industry, but maybe in the future, I hope the members get the chance to do their solo stuff. This debut song is a home run for Babymonster... on ya, one more thing... Rora came out of an egg, while Pharita broke out from her cage, and Rami came out from her school bus.
Ah yes, the pre-debut stuff are in Patreon okay - I like the YG formula. If you want something else, you can at least just support other groups who does something different. It's always been a mainly hip-hop company anyway? And they joined YG for that sound and vibe. Love them. - BATTER UP has references only some would appreciate like literally the baseball stuff. It's cool and all aha - yes! I can still hear their unique vocal tones despite the overall hype song it is. (especially SHEESH too) it's why I like their songs agh - when they rerecorded BATTER UP and Stuck in the Middle 7 ver. I appreciate they didn't entirely change huge parts. It still fits well.
Gotta keep it real and say : - Rap part was CRAZY ( especially Asa ) - They Ate - Choreo was CLEAN - Chiquita def got IT - Major 2ne1 vibes - MV is great , once again the COLORS, YG knows their sh*t for real - This sounds So YG that it doesn't feel like Babymonster, it feels like YG - Chorus is ...boring to say the least - Vocals were good as expected but not impressive - Underwhelming (consdering how talented the girls are and how hyped they've been - 7/10 ( and honestly 4 of those points go for the rap part ) - Good thing this is a debut because that means there is much room for evolution. - Even tho this is mostly a miss for me, will def still support them because these girls are extremely talented and deserve support and respect.

Even TREASURE has fall victim to this since most of the maknae line were minors for 3 years and Junghwan will be an adult by January so expect them to increase activities and concept wise to be more adult oriented. BaeMon will unfortunately follow this and would have limited schedules since most of the members are minors (below 18). I believe the law is the Lee Seung-gi Law: Those aged 12 to 15 are allowed 30 hours a week, while those above the age of 15 can work 35 hours a week, both age groups are limited to 7 hours a day.
I don't think that's the only problem, It's the harm of even debuting them right now. They are far too young and we've already seen that, yes, this is common in the past (even now), but that does not make it right. Those same idols have come out to speak of their experience in the industry and how they wished they got to experience their youth and how much pressure and anxiety they had to go through, some experiencing various mental health issues. They're '02 - '09 some have barely gone through puberty, so much changes in this stage of life. So many idols have had to go on this journey of self-discovery later down the line, and that experience is rough, scary and confusing. Not to mention the sexualisation and the constant judging and criticisms from the public. I don't want to be pessimistic, but I just can't cheer them on. YG treats it's artists like a brand, so I can only hope that BM will have a smooth journey on this path.

I have mixed feeling with “the formula”. I expected YG showcase more of their vocal talent. However lets think again, they already have a song called “Dream” that we can enjoy if thats what we need. And it is still long way to go for other releases. Not to mention Ahyeon (hopefully) will join again and solo project 🎉🎉🎉 But the more I think about it, the more I see that YG has similar approach with Apple. People “mad” with the “same new product/formula” + minimum innovation and “simplicity”. But, once they do something different even a lil bit, people will be very happy about it. They do bare minimum but they still managed to be at the top in the industry. The anticipation for YG or Apple release become very addictive and they know it. Tbh i dont know how to feel about it, but they know what they doing to make a lot of money, i mean MONEY.

I will say that the rapping was very impressive; probably some of the cooler raps I've heard, so they're definitely starting off strong. But at the same time, I just similarly wish that YG would let members do other things too, and release the death grip that they have on that "formula". (absolutely no hate or negativity towards the girls, they killed what they were given). While it's not super different, I loved Lovesick Girls, it's definitely my favorite BP song, but it's also one of my favorite K-Pop songs of all time, so YG can _CLEARLY_ make great music that doesn't follow the "formula" exactly. I think the culprit is that DDU-DU DDU-DU did so well; 2 _Billion_ views, and since then, they've been chasing that high with a similar sound. Early BlackPink had very different sounds, but then it sort of narrowed down into the same formula every time, and people ate it up, so why change it. Anyway, I digress. I really think BabyMonster has potential, and I'm never one to "write off" a group as soon as they debut, so I will definitely check out their comeback and future releases; but someone commented "Yup. That's a YG" song, and that's really how I feel about it. It's definitely one of the songs of all time.

Yeah I really agree I think everyone wanting to BM do it deferent including me but again I know for a debut they would not and I actually like it still cuz "why fix if not broken" 🤭 I'm sure there are many song they can do in the future remember guys this is just a first song and it's a solid debut to introduce BM to the world and yes this song have so many similarities of some G group and artists song big one is money by Lisa but still it's deferent at the same time. It’s so weird for me cause I like all the girls, they have so much talent and I loooove their rappers and it rarely happens for me with gg. But I don’t like that yg sound… like not for them at least. I’m so conflicted it never happened to me before. I’ll stick around and see what’s up for them in the future anyway cause I actually respect them so much. They have so much pressure on them and it reminds me of txt situations so I hope it’ll work out for them as well as it did to the boys
people said the same thing about Blackpink comparing them to 2NE1, it's a formula that works and globally the fans still like it, so why not, they have the ability to be versatile. And, Teddy didn't produce it. So now it's Babymonster being compared to Blackpink, the cycle repeats itself. Yes, it's a YG thing , but globally/musical style they have it over the other Agencies who's trying to copy their style more. Where YG excels over the other companies I feel is in their PR of their groups, they especially concentrate on their girl groups. They messed up with 2NE1 though (IMO). I agree Chiquita has that center look with her cuteness and charisma, but you have to realize also that they are trained for those facial poses to the camera. I assure you, the other girls could show the same charisma, but it's Chiquita's cuteness that shines through. It's like Lisa. Personally, I think this style is perfect, and remember this song is their announcement to the world if you figure out the lyrics. It's their turn, they're up to bat !
Definitely agree with you on the outro. If your gonna have a YG outro, make it a banger. Having said that, like I predicted, they seem to be targeting a younger audience, and for that the outro is perfect. Its just not for me. All the members did great, and Asa and Ruka's parts were my favorite of the song. Looking forward to seeing/hearing the other members stand out in other songs from them :)

I think the girls did the best with what they were given, and I enjoyed the rapping for sure. But I’m another person who is frustrated with YGs formula. Especially the party outros. I’m not expecting them to stop doing hip hop or anything. But I just really wish I could go in to a YG song without knowing exactly how it’s going to sound. Also, the chorus instrumental sounds just like Money by Lisa. Which bothered me as well.

The YG formula its needed in the industry, we need some kpop hiphop strong base for our GGs. Since the other Agency's formulas cannot till today properly implement this style to their GGs, we still need ans will eat every GG that YG releases, just because they will bring this strong hiphop vibe that works for their GGs. YG probably will not change his HipHop formula because there are the only ones doing it right at the market, so hi will keep profiting on it. And lets be honest as much as we love some Ive New jeans and Aspa sound BabyMonster brings something different for our playlists. It's a decent song. The girls have a lot of talent. But the bar has been set pretty high when it comes to debuts, this just fell short for me in terms of a "wow factor". I found myself bobbing my head, and I really liked the rap flows. But the song as a whole just didn't wow me like other debuts did.
i mean they are from yg and yg known for its structure so it's only fair to show the yg dna on their debut song and from then on they can venture to hopefully different/various genre to showcase their ability
They don't have a formula. This is lazy thinking. Did Dream follow this formula? Blackpink's 1st 5 songs were completely different. All 8 songs on The Album were different. Only most of the pre releases and title songs tend to have similar structure. Their vibe is what sets YG apart from the corporate, cookie cutter groups that have saturated the market. Whether it's a bombastic bamger or ballad, they have a certain swag or vibe.

Yeah I really agree I think everyone wanting to BM do it deferent including me but again I know for a debut they would not and I actually like it still cuz "why fix if not broken" 🤭 I'm sure there are many song they can do in the future remember guys this is just a first song and it's a solid debut to introduce BM to the world and yes this song have so many similarities of some G group and artists song big one is money by Lisa but still it's deferent at the same time. It’s so weird for me cause I like all the girls, they have so much talent and I loooove their rappers and it rarely happens for me with gg. But I don’t like that yg sound… like not for them at least. I’m so conflicted it never happened to me before. I’ll stick around and see what’s up for them in the future anyway cause I actually respect them so much. They have so much pressure on them and it reminds me of txt situations so I hope it’ll work out for them as well as it did to the boys
people said the same thing about Blackpink comparing them to 2NE1, it's a formula that works and globally the fans still like it, so why not, they have the ability to be versatile. And, Teddy didn't produce it. So now it's Babymonster being compared to Blackpink, the cycle repeats itself. Yes, it's a YG thing , but globally/musical style they have it over the other Agencies who's trying to copy their style more. Where YG excels over the other companies I feel is in their PR of their groups, they especially concentrate on their girl groups. They messed up with 2NE1 though (IMO). I agree Chiquita has that center look with her cuteness and charisma, but you have to realize also that they are trained for those facial poses to the camera. I assure you, the other girls could show the same charisma, but it's Chiquita's cuteness that shines through. It's like Lisa. Personally, I think this style is perfect, and remember this song is their announcement to the world if you figure out the lyrics. It's their turn, they're up to bat !

Having said that, like I predicted, they seem to be targeting a younger audience, and for that the outro is perfect. Its just not for me.
All the members did great, and Asa and Ruka's parts were my favorite of the song. Looking forward to seeing/hearing the other members stand out in other songs from them :)

The YG instrumental chorus and the iconic yg ending will always be a hit bc no one’s really doing it. I’m always all for it. My top 3 fav yg ending now is.

I think the girls did the best with what they were given, and I enjoyed the rapping for sure. But I’m another person who is frustrated with YGs formula. Especially the party outros. I’m not expecting them to stop doing hip hop or anything. But I just really wish I could go in to a YG song without knowing exactly how it’s going to sound.
Also, the chorus instrumental sounds just like Money by Lisa. Which bothered me as well.

The YG formula its needed in the industry, we need some kpop hiphop strong base for our GGs. Since the other Agency's formulas cannot till today properly implement this style to their GGs, we still need ans will eat every GG that YG releases, just because they will bring this strong hiphop vibe that works for their GGs.
YG probably will not change his HipHop formula because there are the only ones doing it right at the market, so hi will keep profiting on it. And lets be honest as much as we love some Ive New jeans and Aspa sound BabyMonster brings something different for our playlists. Lets all appreciate the amout of diferent sound that a person can have IF the person can suport and listen to multiple GGs from the diferent Agencies 🎉

It's a decent song. The girls have a lot of talent. But the bar has been set pretty high when it comes to debuts, this just fell short for me in terms of a "wow factor". I found myself bobbing my head, and I really liked the rap flows. But the song as a whole just didn't wow me like other debuts did.
i mean they are from yg and yg known for its structure so it's only fair to show the yg dna on their debut song and from then on they can venture to hopefully different/various genre to showcase their ability

They don't have a formula. This is lazy thinking. Did Dream follow this formula? Blackpink's 1st 5 songs were completely different. All 8 songs on The Album were different. Only most of the pre releases and title songs tend to have similar structure. Their vibe is what sets YG apart from the corporate, cookie cutter groups that have saturated the market. Whether it's a bombastic bamger or ballad, they have a certain swag or vibe.
