It's amazing to me to see the pellet moving into the target zone...in slo-mo, it looks like it's gently falling, like someone lobbed it underhand at the target. It is always a mental 'snap!' to remember that we ARE watching slo-mo, and that, although it looks like it's just barely moving, at that instant it is still traveling at several hundred feet per second, and carrying a good deal of energy to disperse upon impact. This 'perception' of slo-motion I used to include in my classes when I taught an intro to Physics, and about how the viewer's distance causes this distorted perception of speed/distance....like the way an airplane looks like it's just 'crawling' across the sky when it is actually traveling at 400mph+.
It is called 'relative motion'. We had a lot of fun with this in my classes.

Really nice performance, wow I am impressed especially at that speed. Gives shooters with lower power air guns a glimmer of what is possible. Albeit you guys make it look a lot easier than it is haha. I noticed that your windage adjustments are quite a bit less than usual too. Great video and commentary, thanks for your work.

Good to see you shooting this permission again. I guess I will order a tin and see if my Maverick likes them. Had to laugh about the seagull because I just shot a bird and it was flopping around and a redtail hawk came down and busted it. When I looked behind it another one was eating a pigeon I shot.

I tried them in a gamo break barrel and while they shot great out to 45yds it didn't have enough speed to expand so they where just hole punchers, but if you want to shoot slugs in a break barrel the rifle brand .22 light 18.21gr get pretty extremely good expansion inside 20 yds and has impressive energy transfer and hydro shock at 45yds

@@AirRifleActivities break barrels are pretty common here in America being so cheap and completely unregulated, its hard to beat the accessibility of a 25 ft lbs .22 for $125 usd at Walmart with no paperwork and no extra accessories needed. Im getting into pcp, first ones in the mail now but break barrels are still amazing for a hiking or camp gun so I'll keep my gamo around.

Just got some of these pellets 2day can't wait to go get some rabbits next week. The barracuda power pellets at 21gr work really well so can't wait to try these at 25 gr. Nice shooting as always mate.

@@AirRifleActivities drops alot so had to rescope to the weight of the slug but I think I'll be fine up2 40m with sighting done today. I use a gamo fox swarm not overly great but 975fps in 22 and decently accurate with the 3 by 9 and Night Saber on top. Look forward to another video

For those that have a veteran standard with standard length cz barrel, I found a very consistent and accurate node at 135 bar, 885-888 fps with .218 23 grain. Hammer adjustment on my particular gun was about 3/16 from max at this node.

In terms of accuracy I prefer a tighter group...but I believe that those slugs have some potential. I’m definitely going to get some and run them through a few of my air guns...nice shooting 🎯

Nice shooting. Those slugs are working very well, I might be wrong but those 50m groups were as good as the pellets used before. They are clearly devastating on the feral pigeons. Dead on the spot.

Absolutely, Chris, it performs great with both various pellets and slugs. That being said, I must tell you that the barrel had a very bad crown and we had to go to a machinist to get it fixed. After that it started performing great. Thank you kindly for your comment, brother.

These are great slugs. I like them better than the hades. Especially at ranges beyond 20 meters. My Akela loves them.

Spiralling - that's what I explained in a subtitle during the video: unlike pellets, slugs tens to spiral sometimes in the initial part of their flight and then they stabilize down range 🙂 One of the many perks slugs have.
True but the spiraling I was referring to was just before impact on the pigeon, it must just be my eyes. Happy shooting mate.

Looks like that pellet is almost too effective. Drops a lot of the pigeons on the spot where you cannot retrieve them! Good for the cats, maybe. :) Excellent shooting and thanks for the video!

So this may sound like a stupid question, but I have a Hatsan Flashpup QE Synthetic .22 cal. Can I run slugs through it? Or do I need a specific slug barrel like on a shotgun? I would like to try them on larger game on my ranch due to the heavier grain projectile. Right now I'm running JSB Diablo 18.13 gr pellets w/excellent accuracy but would like that knockdown power behind it. I have some fat raccoons tearing up my deer feeders and a very large sounder of pigs with a number of smaller cookers that don't really need the 7.62×39 or .308 treatment.
Hey, buddy. Some airgun brands do manufacture what they call slug barrels. But we shoot the HN slugs out of CZ barrels and they perform great both in .22 and in .25.
With your Hatsan I suggest you get different brands of slugs and different weight and sizes - to test and see if any of them would shoot well out of your Turkish barrel. You should also try them in different velocities, but I don't know if your gun gives you the possibility to adjust the power setting...

Thanks, mate 🙂 I explained why it is so at 06:37. My friend has problems with his eyes. He is shortsighted and has astigmatism. That's why he can't adjust the parallax properly on every shot, hence the blurriness.

@@AirRifleActivities I liked your video. I have Taipan Vet standard and at 120 bar, close to max hammer spring tension, I can sling 23grn 218s at 870 as you did. They are accurate at that speed. Have you dialed up the power to test above 870fps with those slugs?

Hey. Firstly, I'm not sure you'll be able to shoot slugs well out of a break barrel. I suggest you stick to pellets. You may try some light slugs, but I doubt there'll be any accuracy.
Speaking of accuracy, you must make sure your gun is accurate not only one that causes damage. My advice to you is get as many of the JSB and H&N models as you can and test them out of your gun to see which one works best.
How much wind are you dialing for 50 meter shots? On days like that with slugs
We don't dial. We use hold.
Even with that kind of wind, with my .25 Prophet and 28 grain slugs I don't hold for wind at 50 m.

Hey, bud. My advice would be to test the slugs at different velocities out of your gun or guns. We all go through this process. A chronograph is a must have.

Buddy, the slugs go back and forth in the Huben magazine. The magazine is made for pellets. You have to be on a steady horizontal surface to shoot slugs out of the Huben 🤷

The clay is just a regular synthetic clay for modelling. If it were natural clay, the damage would've been greater. Play dough - we tried that. One shot only and we could barely scrape it off the targets and walls 🤣 No more.

Nothing modified on it, the one thing we did is put the Long barrel on the Standard version of the Taipan.

Buddy, I don't think they would work well out of a spring powered air gun, but you could always try. Just don't buy too many before you test them 😉

No, mate, that's not one of them Swedish guns with barrels that are long enough to almost touch the target 🤣 That's a 550 mm CZ barrel.
I have the Taipan Vetran Standard ... its a great gun ... It feels like owning a Rolex :) I shot many doves with H&N 23 gr slugs, 218 ... but I could never have a good group ! it does not group. Then I tries the NSA 20.2 gr slugs ... .216 ... they group very well .. The group great. My problem is that the point of impact keep on changing ... on one target it is to the left ... the other target it is to the right ... then up ... and down ... how to solve this problem? by the way, what is the barrel in your gun? I have the CZ barrel , I think 470mm.
Hey there, mate. If it is a Standard, then the barrel on your gun is 450 mm.
NSA slugs are harder to come by in Europe and more expensive due to those silly tariff wars between the US and the EU. That's why I chose the German-made H&N slugs and they turned out to perform great.
I don't know at what distance you shoot your groups and at what distance you shoot doves, but you should bear in mind that quite often slugs spiral in the first part of their flight and stabilize at a greater distance - quite contrary to most diabolo pellets 😉
The barrel in the Taipan we shot in that video is the long barrel they sell for Taipans - 550 mm CZ. But know that the crown of the barrel was terrible and we had to find a machinist and fix it.

I group at around 25 meter .... and shoot pigeons 30 to 60 meters mostly. If you have a facebook acvount i can send you my grouppings .... the H&N slugs are great .... they have shorter or smaller hallow point ... thats why they travel faster and do not damage the doves.

My friend who owns this gun, gets great results with it at 50 meters with the 21 and 23 gr HN Slugs. Diameter is .218. Do some more testing, mate. Try 260-265 m/s.
