One narrative I hate about Stroll is "look at how much he's improved since 2017". He spent 6 seasons in F1. Other drivers don't get that time. Most would have improved a lot after 6 years too

The goal for a normal F1 team is to score the most points. However, that is NOT the goal of Big Stroll. His goal is to give his son the maximum learning curve and hires the best drives he can get to put next to his son. Hoping they rub something off on him. So, in this team Stroll jr. will never kicked out. He will always have a seat. It is not about branding, not about world titles. I think part of the reason Stroll was closer to Vettel is the car wasn’t as capable as the current car. So even if you drive it to its maximum you’re only going to go so much faster than driving it a bit below its potential. Now that they have a car when driven to its limits is very fast Stroll’s shortcomings are becoming increasingly glaring.

      @kovarikristof3754 ปีที่แล้ว +29

What kind of logic is that? I do not understand this. Drivers always want to deliver, whether they are in a good or a bad car. Look at Yuki now, Alonso in the Mclaren Honda years, or Kubica in the Williams in 2019 and the list could go on and on and on. The real reason Stroll was closer to Vettel than Alonso, is because Vettel is not as good as Alonso, and never has been on his or Lewis’ level. Without any doubt, and people should have the objectiveness and honesty to look at the facts simple, do not bring this and that to the topic. Vettel made Stroll good, a very decent driver ( which he is ), but next to Alonso (at 41!!) Stroll looks like Latifi. Alonso has over 3x the points of Stroll in just 6-7 races..

I know this is the hot topic of the moment, but it´s been the last 2 races that caused this topic to rise again, where at least in qualifying it wasn´t his fault because in miami the team left him on a used set of tyres for the last run in q1 and alonso barely made it out of q1. In monaco he picked up floor damage from the norris incident in q2 and couldn´t do a last lap because they were all trying to hold each other up to do a lap at the last seconds. He was clearly quick enough as shown in q1.
In miami his race pace was meh in the begining but it was clearly very hard to overtake and for the first 30 laps with the drs trains it became even harder so i don´t think he did a bad job and in the end he started to pick it up but it was too late. He definitely could´ve done more in the race and finish at least in the points at 9th or 10th.
In monaco it´s hard because at least for me his first incident with sargeant was clearly on logan because in the first turn there were more than enough room for 2 cars and stroll just tried it and sargeant closed the gap wayy too late and then sargeant closed the gap again on the next turn and that made him drop a lot of places. During the race it was clear that magnussen wouldn´t let him pass anywhere (they have a bit of history where magnussen races him harder than usual) and he was stuck behind him but always on his back, meanwhile perez was sometimes unable to keep up with him so stroll was clearly faster and if his race would be without the first incident he would probably have scored a point or two again. He was horrible on inters tho, that car just wouldn´t turn for nothing lol
In my opinion this is getting out of proportion and of course when it comes to stroll nobody even tries to look deeper at what happened or why it happened, they just see the stats and assume it was all on him when it was clearly not.
I am trying to be fair and many people including f1 youtubers are not fair at all to him, when for drivers like perez they got to the extent of saying that the redbull car is not suited to him or the mclaren to ricciardo. Do any of them know what type of car stroll likes? no, because they don´t care, but if you don´t care at least try to be unbiased and look deeper at what happened during those "supposed" bad performances.

Alonso pitting onto medium tires was so frustrating because it was clear that either it was too wet for them, or that there was a good chance that more rain would have required the intermediates anyway. I mean, I'm no F1 race strategist, but even I could tell that it was probably too wet for slicks by that point, and there was no indication that the rain would be letting up any time soon.
Edit: To add, you're absolutely correct that when he pitted, the slicks were *technically* the best tire at that moment, but you don't win Grands Prix (yes I hate writing it like that, too, but it's better than Grand Prixes I guess?) by doing what is technically correct in every single moment. You win them by anticipating and strategizing and taking appropriate risks when such opportunities present themselves (or you just win because you're Red Bull and you have the best car with Max Verstappen driving it). It's amazing to me how often underdog teams play situations just a bit too conservatively in order to preserve an existing position rather than really going for it by taking a chance that is not even all that risky.
Another example would be Hulkenberg at the Austria Sprint Race, who on lap 15 mentioned that slicks might be preferable, but despite that, at the beginning of lap 17 his engineer was still trying to talk him out of pitting because he was P4 and there were only so many laps left (Lance Stroll passed him literally immediately after that radio message). Or how McLaren wasn't playing the same strategy as Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone (Lewis said in the post-race interview that he was planning on "going until the end" because he was expecting a safety car), pitting Piastri earlier than they needed to despite the fact that during the pre-race show they mentioned that there is an 80-something percent chance of a safety car at Silverstone.
These are exactly the kinds of risks that lesser teams need to be taking in order to maximize their results when they get such opportunities. The downside is not bad enough NOT to take such risks. It's frustrating to watch them play these situations excessively safe!
Edit 2: Yes, he had "everything to lose," unless he had pitted onto intermediates at that time. I mean, it's not like the intermediate tire would have made him wreck in the first corner. It would have just slowed him down slightly, and at worst, caused him to pit again WHICH HE HAD TO DO ANYWAY. That's exactly my point above! It wasn't even a huge gamble! I know Alonso wanted to try the slicks and I'm almost always going to trust the driver over everyone else, but it just didn't seem like a smart gamble at that point in time. Mediums WERE the gamble, and they paid for it.

With Seb, I feel like his performances rise with the capabilites of his car, look at the 2nd half of last season, Seb came alive, whilst it can be noted having recently retired his mental space is different, driving without pressure, but look at 2018 compared to 2020 at Ferrari or 2013 and 2014 with RB, therefore I think the comparison with Stroll is slightly unfair, had it been Seb in this year's Aston instead of Stroll, him and Nando would be very close imo (I'm not saying one beats the other, both r exceptional drivers but imo they would close if put in the same machinery), I personally think Seb would have the higher highs but also the lower lows whereas Alonso would be extremely consistent as he is proving (kinda what happened in 2012)

as and Alonso fan yesterday fcked us because the Stroll telemetry without issues would have help but at the same time it works because is better for AM to end third or fourth for next year

I think for any other team, you are absolutely correct. However, the difference in revenue whether you end up let's say 3rd or 4th in the constructor's championship is perhaps not the biggest worry for Laurence Stroll.
So, as long as AM is only interested in podiums and potential wins, it works for them with Fernando.
However, if you want to become World Champion as a constructor, you have to have 2 horses that can pull the wagon and probably need a better, more consistent driver than Lance.
But let's not forget that this is only the first year Lance can learn from Fernando. It may take him 2 years to absorb and learn. And of course, he will be given that time by the team.

Everyone at Aston claiming they would’ve finished second even if they pitted for inters immediately. They just don’t want to face reality they could’ve won. Data was there to show Alonso would’ve got in front of max with the delta on the inters and max still sliding around on slicks

Imagine what Lando could do in that Aston. That's who I would go after if I was AM, but I know he's not exactly a fan of the Strolls.
And yeah, no disrespect to the legendary Vettel but it's pretty clear now how done he was. Probably just didn't have the motivation anymore, no one can ever question his talent at his peak.

2014, when he decided to move to McLaren.

the worst part for Lance is even if he wants to leave the team for another one he would be denied by everyone of them
seriously I wish to see Lance doing better but he has to kick himself in the butt to improve himself

Stroll's best bet is to be a test driver, if Lawrence is smart he'll make that call.

This raises a very interesting question… If there were two Stroll’s in Aston Martin how bad could a good car look? Does this mean some cars are not as bad as they seem and just have bad drivers?

Very good, I agree with most of what's been said in this video. It had been recorded before Spanish GP where Mercedes clearly outperformed Aston Martin. Right now we do not know if that continues, but if Lawrence Stroll wants to succeed in F1 he should at least start thinking of hiring someone more competitive alongside Alonso.
One thing I can't agree with is that Lance Stroll is still good enough to be in F1. He had a few good moments, but I think we all agree there were better drivers that had to make space for someone else. I'm wondering who could be valuable substitute if (theoretically) at some point this season Lance parts ways with Aston Martin.
Maybe it's worth to create another video covering that?

I bet Stroll will luck into a win, and take AM's sole win this year. Just like Ocon in Hungary 2021.

Its early on in an exceedingly long season hopefully things turnaround for him ( i doubt his dad will fire him its more likely he will retire due to ongoing wrist complications or just retire by the end of next season if this current trend continues) I can't see him wanting to be their if Alonso thrashes him 2 seasons in a row.

100% correct, Lawrence is always going to try and make his son a world champ but he must see by now he's holding the team back considerably. Lawrence should have bought Williams also and had his son head that team up

Just as long as there isn't a title sponsor (Somebody else money) at the team Lance's position is probably safe for now. Honda won't be so forgiving.

I'm more in the line of Stroll doing this bad in Aston is actually a blessing in disguise, because if they finish 3rd or 4th behind Merc and Ferrari they will get a bigger budget cap and more wind tunnel testing time especially next season they will have their own wind tunnel

For me, this situation is the same that we saw in 2010-2014 with Alonso and their team mates, Massa and Raikkonen. Stroll is not the best, but I think Fernando is a beast. And I also believe that this time and project is meant to be built around Fernando, Stroll is just a passenger.
