Yes but its his abilty to come back after a mistake in quali to make up for it in the race that's when he got p2. Whiles for chalres its the opposite with him not being able to maintain due to mistakes on the wrong day same goes for lewis in 2021

It sounds weird but his 2021 season will always be the most underrated, especially with how some idiots like to remember that season. It was his first time in a car that could compete for regular race wins and he took it to a 7-time world champion and outperformed him. Max only finished lower than P2 once that year, and that was at Hungary due to car damage. People forget that Max had horrible luck that season and would have had the title wrapped up by Qatar if he'd had the luck that Lewis had all year. He lost out on 25 points in the dying laps of Azerbaijan due to a random tire failure, a 32-point swing at Silverstone due to Mercedes terrorism, 18-25 points at Hungary due to Mercedes terrorism just one week later... I think it's the season where he reached his highest level of driving IMO. I don't think he's re-reached that level since, mainly because he hasn't needed to though
in my opinion 2022 and 2023 max supersedes 2021 max, highlighted by fustration at the start of 2022 with reliability issues, but then didn't let that bog him down mentally for the rest of the season
I agree, however, I think if things went fair he would have wrapped up the title in Brazil. If the luck was equalled, he would have finished the season with something like 70-80 points ahead of Lewis. 25 points for a win, 25×3=75, so yeah, most likely Max would have sealed the title with three races to go.

Idk, Jeddah was a bit off for me, and also Monza. Yeah, he doesn't have to battle for the lead nowadays that hard, so we don't know, but I'd expect him not cutting off the other that bad. (Also Brazil 2021 was a fun one as well)
Max in 2021 was the best you could ever imagine. He basically beat Lewis in his own consistency game.
Man makes it happen no matter where he starts on the grid. Gets his head down and drives the wheels off. I can't help but respect that type of mentality. Dude is a winner and he goes out every race hell bent on winning. Just like all the greats in the sport. He doesn't show up for anything less. That type of attitude is what it takes.
I remember in Baku where George collided into him and then said "why is he complaining? he got third place?!", people were quick to point out that while for George a 3rd place is a great result, for Max is not, he only aims for the top, while other drivers are content with just deserts.
Max is one of those 1 in a generation drivers. I'm glad Red Bull is able to build a car that suits his driving style. And Honda is able to design a reliable engine that allows Max to compete for wins. Watching him race pre 2022, it was hard to bare. His talent was there. But the engine program was disappointing.
He's the very definition of "balls to the wall". Even Alonso admitted that during his F1 leave he would still tune in just to check what Max was doing.
@@Drrolfski I’ve been watching some of Max’s older karting vids on TH-cam. He’s been a savage back then too. He would be back of the pack. Picking up positions lap after lap.
He has superior control with his kart. And brakes super late in corners. When his competitors brake early, he would brake later and overtakes on the corners. Same thing he’s doing today. Totally balls to the walls. Even at a young age of 8 or 10
Part of Max's attitude is what it takes to be successful, there's no way of really arguing that, but it's the other parts where I just can't respect him. Parts of his racing is either dangerous or toxic or even both, like it was for the majority of 2021, in Brazil last year where he deliberately collided with Hamilton, him getting mad at Russel just for good hard racing in the Baku sprint race this year, the list goes on. Also in other areas where he never admits fault to anything, and I think worst of all was him backstabbing Perez in Brazil last year for literally no good reason. I'd still be bored seeing him win so often, but it wouldn't bother me as much if I could actually respect the guy. Seeing someone that you genuinely dislike win nearly all the time is seriously aggravating.

@GameOfEnder8, I dont think u can put Charles in the conversation. Max always got the better of him in the karting days. George has a lot more to prove as well to be compared to max. On Lewis I agree, him and max are a differrent league.

Finishing once outside of the points in 8 years (11th place) is the craziest stat I’ve heard for a driver. Unreal.

He drives like a champion now. He wins most of the time when he should, maximises the bad days and he doesn’t take unnecessary risks. He let both the mercs go in Australia this year because he knew he could get them later, same with taking his time coming back through in Jeddah. It’s just such a high level of consistency that we saw with Hamilton, can see Alonso still has, and that Leclerc has yet to fully demonstrate.
Hamilton is not that fantastically consistent. Compare his 2021 season to Max, he didn't fare as well as Max did

@@dmytrothecat8317 Hamilton has never been considered "consistent", he has always been known to be rapid, just an amazing driver once he gets some free air "Hammer time" became a meme because of this trait of his to be able to push the car 110% when needed, but anytime his lost a championship it's been because of him making mistakes under pressure (when he has been even in the fight, some of those Vettel years were just pure dominance from the German)
@@FaceFish9 he lost 2016 to Rosberg due to lack of consistency - bad starts and some bad performances. In 2017 Seb was still better and he should have won, but Merc had no DNFs. Since 2018, Hamilton has really improved, but still, he relaxed near the end of the season
The specific turning point where he was title contending levels of good was Canada 2018....until then the incidents were more frequent....after that he was in the top 5 almost every race and then hasn't looked back unless it's been DNFs or car damage or incidents.
From 2019 onwards he's basically been on the podium every race as long as he's finished
Monaco 2018 where he binned it into the wall in P3 after looking to be favourite for pole, then not being able to repair the car in time and having to start the race last.
After that, he matured into what he is now

That hit him hard, especially as he saw Seb lose to Lewis that year with a similar lack of patience, even if that lack of patience was due to Ferrari being idiotic
Japan last year was an incredible drive. A second per a lap faster in a 27 lap race in the rain. That is insane
that is senna level stuff. And he does those things consintently.
Not to downplay that drive but leclerc was fighting hard with tyre ware in that race, there is a picture showing the tyres after the race and leclercs were practicly slicks.
@@dontdoit8496 I know that but even so, Leclerc was fighting Perez a lot of the race where Checo should've been much higher. Even then, to be a second a lap faster in the rain is next level stuff along with that brilliant overtake on Leclerc on the restart.
I can’t believe that Max has failed to reach the points on just ONE occasion in EIGHT years (without reaching checkered flag for whatever reason). That’s a stat I didn’t know and that proves that Max is a once in a generation driver
Max is easily the most talented driver on the grid, the simple fact that Perez can’t beat max without dumb luck says a lot

I know he isn’t everyone’s favourite but I really do feel like he may go on to be the best ever, he was contesting and winning races as a teenager in a decent car, and now he is in a top car….. there are some weekends he looks unbeatable
He is already the best driver I have seen. Schumacher and him for me edge it, followed by Hamilton and Alonso. I haven’t seen enough of Clark unfortunately.

I’ve been saying this for years when people start doing the crashstappen or say he was beaten by Danny Ric in 2016 and 2017… The dude should of been in Gp3 in 2015 and gp2 as it was then in 2016 maybe even 2017 with how young he was he missed that valuable learning curve of how to be in a team,, what you can and can’t get away with on the circuit .. instead he was thrown in the deep end of a shark invested pond at 17 and survived and fought them off like he was Chief Brody in jaws just picture yourself at that age and how you’d handle it…
they use the fact that he was beaten by Danny Ricc to downplay him but they forgot that before that Seb was also bested by danny

Fun Fact. Lewis has crashed out more drivers in his first 8yrs then Max has. Lewis crashed into Massa 6x in 2011 alone.
Another fact. Max has had more mechanical DNFs in his career than Hamilton, despite having half the races as him. Lewis has by Far the most reliable cars in the history of any driver in F1. He went 60+races without a single mechanical DNF from 2018-2022. Absurd luck.
I could see this in 2019-20 when he became the beast he is...and when he got the car in 2021 i knew he wouldn't even let a race by without getting the best position

Max is a natural talent. A real gifted racer. He prove it when in his first race with RedBull after the crash of the dominant cars in Barcelona 2016 he won with Kimi behind him pushing. I do not want to use the word “genius” like Senna, but close. In his 25 he still maturing as a driver. Sure, the best champions need a great car, since Fangio to today, but he is a very Aldas said. Great video except that in Hungary - one of his best races - he start in 10th place.
Max is a monster talent up there with Schumacher.
Hes the second coming of Schumacher. Without a doubt and this from a Hamilton fan. I recently found out jos and micheal used have holiday's together with max in tow. No doubt he had a impact and max imho will win titles up until 2026 when the regs change. Max will set the new record for the statistics. Perez won't touch him in pace so intra team battle is won and operates higher than Charles Lewis and Russell.
I wouldn't say monster but Max's charge for the win is enough to justify the bull in Red Bull

Videos like this is why I am watching this channel. I am a Max fan (well... F1 fan. but as Dutch F1 fan I have to back Max or I am banned from the country obviously), I went into this video with the mindset "I know how good he is but ok... spill it out.
And then during watching I realised that I actually didn't know how good he really has been during the last 4 years. I must agree that his brutal consistency is perhaps his most impressive feat. But somehow I think people will remember him after his F1 career as the guy who could win from any grid position and had no "weather weaknesses".

I'll never forget the race where Max started 10th, easily made it to 1st, did a spin to pay tribute to his favorite song, and then retook 1st like it was nothing.
A man has hit mastery through sheer dedication and some innate giftedness. That additional 1% he eeks out is something that lurks in the soul.
I use the comparison of Charlie Parker. Yes, he spent 12 hours + every day playing saxophone but there was simply something else within his mind that he was born with.
I think Max' prime already started post Monaco 2018. A rocky start of the season, but was relentless after Monaco.

I am a all time schmi fan. Well i am am also a great admirer of Fernanda, Seb and Max now. Max is an absolute monster. All these guys have had and also having beautiful race crafts. Well for now both Max and alanso are supremely talented and ruthless as schumi. I love it.
1 Mistake: LeClerck often being fast in Qualifying and then not performing in the race was NOT because LeClerck was somehow a "magical qualification driver", but simply because Ferrari turned up their engines very high in Qualy, which them very fast, but then led to reliability and or speed problems in the race. RB having a much more sensible engine strategy led to them getting relatively less poles, but performing better in the races.
Ferrari always laughed yet are left with a sense of wonder about how Honda riders are able keep smurky faces. Because the BRrraap is with us! Not lazy nitwitt pensionados, and their silly skinny playthings. So much justice served by the max/honda pack. Reinvigoured the sports bigtime.

He did call it immature, but i would say he condoned it, instead of condemned it.
Having said that though, i find Russell to be a sneaky fella, some of his collisions just didn't rub me the right way, and if i would get into a tussle with Russell, i'd probably also be pissed off (but happy to not have "turned into him").

I hold also hold negative opinions of Max, but those are opinions that no one is asking to hear.
Many of us clicked on this video for facts and entertainment, not for someone’s take on a 25 year old’s shitty behavior. Maybe some people like those takes, but I think that many of us view sharing negative opinions of other people can be off-putting and often screams insecurity if not done the right way.

This video is based on facts, not subjective issues of whether you like Max or not. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. In the same way, you recognize a good driver.
Abu Dhabi 2020 is where this run truly began. He was still making some mistakes and getting into scraps further back in the field that year, but from AD 2020 onwards he was just always on it

I won't say Max couldn't have avoided the crash at Monza 2021 but for me Max still just did exactly what Bottas did to him at Monza 2018 for which Max got a penalty. And Hamilton in return let the car go just as far wide as Max did in 2018.
But then again, I think most people agree that Monza 2018 just wasn't really worthy of a penalty for Max in the first place. Otherwise consistency in the sport is also just another big issue with that entire incident between Max and Lewis.
Anyhow it was a crazy season.

His Monaco quali., was mind blowing! I love to see how Alonzo and Max interact! True respect from both sides. He absolutely is SuperMax!!! When he is not behind the wheel in his race car. He is Sim Racing where ever he happens to be! If you want to beat him every week, you need to drive 14 hours a day like he does! Without that, hope for luck, or a car failure!

Yeah, i'm dutch... and not the biggest fan by a long shot. But i've been watching formula 1 since i was a kid in 1976 with my dad and what this kid is doing is quite extraordinary. Having done simracing myself, never to that kind of level, i've seen alot of people try and beat the other guy to the win, but i've not seen many people feel a car out as fast as Verstappen can... i mean, he's out the pits and full on it, testing what the car can do, whilst others simply look like they are "letting the car warm up", get to know the car, he just wrestles it full on, communicates to his team clearly about what the car is like, so the engineers can tinker and make the car better. His mentality has improved now that he's got more experience, but giving a win away, not if he can stop it... he's a go getter, knows what he wants... and fighting for his wins. He's done the homework, his team have done their homework... But dominant? Bwahahaa, funny, but this team has worked towards winning, where for instance mercedes were saving tires from 2014 to 2019... now that car was dominant.. Both drivers up on the top step mostly all the time.
I would even go as far to say that take away verstappen’s championships ( all the titles he will go on to win till he retires) , just by pure racecraft, mentality, aggression , he will still be greatest of all time.

Ngl I used to dislike Max during his first few seasons in F1. But 2019 is the turning point where he became more and more mature.
Max is the perfect driver imo. He got that Schumi's charisma, Lewis' precision and Alonso's ability to fully extract a car.
Lewis may be statistically the best driver in the history, but he is lacking the charisma that Schumi and Senna had. Lewis also does not seems to be able to fully extract an average car like Max and Alonso.

Love him or hate him you can’t deny max is up there as one of the best drivers to compete in F1.
He reminds me of senna, aggressive, arrogant and believes he’s the best on the grid, which is a good thing in some ways!
He doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him, he’s racing to win and nothing else which you can argue at Brazil last year he didn’t play the team game by letting Perez past, but it’s letting out that inner bastard as a driver that makes you a winner!
Look at how far Bottas got for been a nice guy and a ‘good team mate’
Max is only doing the same as Lewis was when Rosberg won the championship, Vettel n Schumacher was when they was winning, Senna, Prost, all the greats have that savagery within them! That’s how and why they won!
I really want the other teams to be closer to RB for an actual fight and that‘s coming from a Max/RB fan. He really hasn‘t been on it this season so far (for his insanely high standards) and he doesn‘t seem to care that much either since he knows that he’s going to win the championship anyway even if he doesn‘t perform at his best. Perez will never even come close to him realistically. He‘s turning more and more into Hamilton in a sense that he doesn‘t do anything risky/exciting anymore and just plays it safe since he‘s driving a rocketship. I truly hope that either Merc or Ferrari get their shit together and start challenging RB again. 1 team championships simply aren‘t exciting and aren‘t worth as much as a legendary close title battle like 2021. If the cars are close again Max will hopefully return to his monster form of 2021.
The only driver who can compete him so far is still Lewis for me in terms of driveability, consistency, and race speed

Nope. Lewis fan here but his performance ceiling has hit a wall. His qualy is poor race pace is still good but wheel to wheel he's timid. I would say Alonso would be more Max's level during a title fight
@@Crukren89 I guess I mentioned it above that being a great competitor means you have to get all the package for F1 such as race pace, speed, consistency, smartness, and reliability. Being a competitor doesn't necessarily mean to be dominant in terms of the car. So far, Lewis and Fernando have shown consistency and smartness. I am looking forward to all these three drivers challenging each other in the future 🤷😉

I don’t see how reverse grid would work, why on earth anyone will care to make the best time in qualifying just to start last? They’ll probably try to make the worst possible time, take as much as possible penalties from swapping PU components tos start first.
The last time Verstappen had a clean race and didn't finish on the podium was Sochi 2019.

Getting the pole means nothing if you can't turn into a victory. I find it more impressive to be able to claw a victory or second place from further back in the grid.

About the prime thing. Max is 25. This mid-twenties is typically where we see the prime for athletes across all sports. Messi was 25 when he scored 91 goals in a season. In tennis, Djokovic won 43 consecutive matches when he was 24, and Nadal had his best season (winning 3 slams) when he was 23, Murray finally won Wimbledon when he was 26.
We are lucky enough to have 3 "all time greats" of the sport on the grid currently. But only one is in their prime. The other two, it's a testament to how good they are that they can still compete with the very best at a much older age (in sporting terms).

in my opinion, the best Verstappen ever is the 2021. You saw his dedication and determination on every podium that season. You can't put a percentage on that, but if I were to put the percentage of Verstappen's performance in 2021, driver/car, it was around 55/45, 60/40 (always in favor of the car, F1, fortunately or unfortunately, ALWAYS needs by car above all) in MY OPINION. The problem that spoiled and underestimated his achievements was Red Bull's spending cap and Masi's mistake in the last race, but he was arguably the most deserving of that Season. But for 2021 to have been so exceptional, it was the 2019-2020 Seasons that gave him that pre-workout. In 2020 specifically, he was on edge with his nerves, he got irritated by everything, he complained about everything very heavily (he even isolated himself behind a dumpster after losing pole in the Turkish GP in 2020!!), but All of this was needed for 2021 to be his best moment. Of course, Mercedes' drop in performance was an important factor for this, but if it was Verstappen from 2016-2018, he would NEVER win a title, as he would be able to bet that his mistakes would be bigger and more regular than his podiums or victories. I'm a fan of Leclerc, but I take my hat off (the Brazilian pronunciation of saying that you admire and respect a certain feat of a person), because I saw this whole evolution of Verstappen, I saw the evolution of the idiot kid who said that he thought it was good to at least have finished his race and the one who got involved with him (Singapore 2017, he says this nonsense after he got involved with Vettel and Raikkonen at the start), for a matured, regular and consistent driver who added to that aggressiveness of not giving up mainly for the one who was his main competitor, Lewis Hamilton. It had to be Verstappen who stopped Mercedes and Hamilton, if it was Norris or Leclerc maybe it wouldn't be fair or correct. By the way, as a fan, I believe that what Leclerc is going through now is exactly what Verstappen went through in 2016-2018 and I hope that this is the maturing that Charles needs to finally be more than a very fast driver.

Thats impressive af, its clearly not just the car. Cause your winrate is based on skill cause all the cars are the same. When Max is chilling at home on a wednsday he often streams and thats were you can truly see how insane he is.

True story. I was in an online room f1 game - I think it was about 2010, and Jensen Button showed up in the room. Some of us didn’t believe it was him until he absolutely annihilated us. I got lapped within about 5 laps. It was only when some other folks showed and they all started commenting on some of the inaccuracies of game that I thought it was probably past my bedtime. nope. If not for safety car goofup, Checo wouldn't have been able to pass Max at Baku. Tyre management was crucial and there weren't any overtakes once the race settled down after the pitstop.

About time really
Max in Baku did not have his car setup right. After his pitstop he spent most his time with his engineer figuring out settings, which is where you could see the gap increasing. Then when he finally did get it right in the last 10 laps or so you could suddenly see him closing that gap again pretty quickly. Was just too late in the race to be able to catch up.
Imagine if Max V was actually a different model of sporting genius who really did desire/seek out, racings best competitions; just forget about those superficial reasons for staying in F1(all the records, historical implications and yadda yadda). How cool would it be if he moved to Indycar for a few seasons, took Alex Paloù's #10 Chip Ganassi car?! He's already cemented his F1 legacy, and even if he came to Indycar and wasn't able to even win a race, he could come back to F1 and get ANY SEAT he'd like. Considering how young he still is, 🤔 it shouldn't be outside the range of possibilities! But.. it is.

You mention his crashes in his early years but if you look at them better, most of them are not that he does something wrong but the opponents just couldn't react on his level, in that way he just had to learn others are not as good as him and he had to take that part into account.
Also, is Leclerc better in quali? No he takes more risks while he knows he gets eaten alive in the race, so it's more a level of maturity missing in Leclerc's driving abilities.
3:10 I'd argue it was 2018. he had those awful rounds at the start of the season where he couldn't stop crashing or causing incidents, but after that he was formidable and absolutely trounced danny.

I've watched Max mature and there's no doubt that he's been the best driver on the grid since at least 2021, but I'd say probably since 2019-2020. He was in an inferior car to those Mercedes and yet everytime they looked in their mirrors, they saw Max. He was squeezing every bit of performance out of those cars like someone squeezing a stone to get water out. In 2021 Mercedes had quite a large advantage with their car. Yet Max was there the entire time, pushing. And ultimately snatched the Championship with a gutsy overtake on the restart on the final lap of the final race (don't gimme that "they let the cars overtake to give him the win" nonsense, as there were like at least 5 instances before that one where the FIA gifted Lewis and Mercedes undeserved decisions despite them not being in line with their rules, so don't bother. Just like dude said to Toto "We went racing" and it was SPECTACULAR) and won in an inferior car when all the evidence said that Lewis should have won because he had the superior car by a large margin and was so accomplished (though let's not pretend that most of his success is from those tempests he got to drive, but still he has the skill to drive them and that's not small feat). Lewis is a great driver, but Max is different and anyone looking at the two if them without bias clouding the view can see the difference in skill and ability. Lewis DRIVES the car, Max IS the car. He's a machine, a terminator, a totally ruthless assassin with contracts on the checkered flag and championship trophies. He's unstoppable. And since RB has given him cars that actually ARE the best on the grid, no one has even SNIFFED him outside of a few random mechanical issues and incidents where other drivers run into him. It doesn't matter where he starts on the grid, he's going to win. It feels so inevitable every race, regardless of what happens in practice and qualies, if Max doesn't win its an actual shock, each and every time...and it's rare. Like when Lewis got Pole and everyone started shooting off at the mouth about how he was back and going to Yada Yada Yada, only to get blitzed and overtaken within like the first 100m. And afterwards no one saw Max except as a sun glare glinting off his paint job half a lap ahead of everyone else...except when he'd pit and they close the gap, only to watch him take off into the distance again. So there's little doubt that being the best driver and having the best car is clearly the move. But people actually try to pretend that the young man isn't outrageously talented and ignore the frankly, insane performances he put on with inferior equipment since he joined F1. They pretend it's all the car. It's honestly insane. He wouldn't even be driving this rocketship of a car RB has devastated the field with if he hadn't been so overwhelmingly good even with relatively shit cars for years leading up now.

Max is the new Senna according to for example Marko, Hakkinen, Wolf and Button. They know, not us the fans.
Only few racers are in the same class as max. Alonso and max remind me of each other. Lewis is a very good racer, but remove the total dominance of Mercedes and I don’t think he’s as good as both mentioned before. Lewis had only one competitor which was Bottas. The season when he were at the same team as Alonso they ended exactly one point behind kimi. Who ended up winning the title that year. 14 years later Alonso still drives as a young experience driver even he is 41 years old. Talking about greatness ❤
